Missing ink level indicator deskjet 6980

Hi,
I am trying to restore the ink level indicator on this deskjet 6980. I have gone through all the properties to no avail. I downloaded the HP tool, however, it when through the motions with progress boxes and just vanished. I thought the tool would check current drivers and software for updates.
Thank you,
Magnetoram

  • Officejet J6415 ink level indicator

    Hi,
I had a J6413 which was getting the "scanner failure" message. Took it in for repairs and got a J6415 as an exchange unit.
The problem now with the J6415 is that the ink level indicators on the control panel or via the HP Device Manager (on Mac) does not show the correct levels.
The black cartridge was almost empty. When I inserted it, it showed as full on the control panel and via the device manager software. After doing some research and contacting HP Support, I did a partial reset. This caused the ink level indicator on the control panel to show as a "?", for color and black. Both levels then appear as empty via Device Manager. A full reset changes the levels to full again, on both the control panel and Device Manager software.
Any ideas? As a last resort, I will take the printer back, but that leaves me without a printer until it gets repaired. Been trying to find a solution before having to take the printer back. The person I spoke to at HP Support suggested that I should use the printer as is, and maybe the ink levels will show correctly after a while. Doubt this will change anything.
Using the printer showing the "?" now. Tried partial resets (# & 3), full resets (# & 6), and the power cycles, but no luck. The levels have changed between full and the "?".
Anybody else experienced the same, and more importantly found a solution, other than taking it back for repairs?
    Thanks:-)

Just configure your printer again.Uninstall your driver and then again install it.You may be get your solution.

How do I get the ink level window to show everytime I print

    Hey Antonio2,
The deskjet 5550 does not have a full driver package available on the Windows 7 Operating System.  Please take a look at the information in the article linked below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01874725&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4062&product=718...
To obtain ink levels one will have to print the Self Test Page from the unit.  For information about the Self Test Page please read the below linked article:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02693389&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
Try the following steps to access the Toolbox for this printer:
Open the Devices and Printers folder
Right click on the installed Deskjet 5550
    Select Printer Properties
    Select the Services tab
    Open the HP Toolbox
    Select Print a Test Page
    Hope this helps,
    Jason

  • I can't determine the ink levels for my HP Deskjet 6940

When I right-click the printer object, choose [Printing Preferences], select the [services] tab, and click the [Service this device] button I get an error message:
A required printer file is either missing or corrupted. Reinstall the HP printing software that came with your device and try again.
I've deleted the printer object and reinstalled it, choosing not to use the existing driver. The problem remained. There is no printer driver to download from HP, it uses the driver that's part of my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 operating system. I ran the MS System File Checker and it reported no problems.
How do I check the ink levels?
    Thanks.

This patch will restore the ink level feature. It is located at the web support page for your printer.

  • Deskjet 1000 J110 stopped checking ink levels

    Hi
    I have a Deskjet 1000 J110 and I'm running Windows 7.
The HP software used to allow me to check ink levels, now it doesn't. I checked them no more than 2 weeks ago without a problem. Now, when I tried to check them, the option simply wasn't there. I'm not sure, but I think the shortcut on the HP menu folder is directing me to the Control Panel printers folder, not to the HP software like it used to.
Anyone has any idea what the problem might be?
    Cheers!

    Hi seileach,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I read your post and see that the Printer Assistant isn't opening to view the ink levels when you click on the printer shortcut.
I will be happy to help you.
Try going to start, all programs, HP, Deskjet 1000 J110, then click on the Deskjet 1000 J110 again to see if the Printer Assistant will now open this way.
If not, then most likely the driver is corrupted. I would uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

  • HP Deskjet 5740 INK LEVEL

    I have this printer:
HP Deskjet 5740 Color Inkjet Printer
and it's working great after five years. It still works well even with Windows 7 64bit. The only problem is that I can't check anymore the ink level as it was shown on XP after every print. I've noticed that the driver's program doesn't include anymore the toolbox.
Is there any other way to just be informed when a ink-tank is near the end? It' seems strange that an up to date OS is giving less that the older ones.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Giuseppe Pini, Florence, Italy

Hi - It looks like the DJ5740 driver for Windows 7 is the one that comes with the OS (doesn't look like there is a full-featured driver).  Consequently, you don't have the toolbox functionality like you had previously.  I believe it gives the ink levels on the test page.  Check out this doc on how to run the test page.  Wish I had a workaround to provide to check ink levels from the software, but it doesn't appear there is a way to do it.  Here is another doc discussing the functionality in Win7, along with workarounds.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP Deskjet D4260 Ink Levels

I have a reasonably happy HP D4260 and a PDF manual for same, Windows XP Pro SP3.
The manul references a way to check the ink level.  I know I can tell when the ink light comes on, the ink level is low.  Somehow, not being able to do something the manual says I should be able to do bugs me.
I can't find the installation CD and downloaded what I think would be the correct software from HP.  Installed, reboot, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, etc.
THe printer works fine - I just use the D4260 to print documents and now use another printer for pictures.
To display the ink levels (should the display of ink levels be turned off for some reason)  the manual says:
    1. For Windows 2000, click Start, and then click Settings. For Windows XP, click
Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
A list that includes the printers installed on your computer is displayed.
    2. Highlight the printer name, and then right-click to display a list of options.
    3. Click Properties.
The Printer Properties dialog box is displayed.
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. For Display Ink Status Window, click On, and then click OK.
Everything is fine until step 5.
Danged if I can see a Display Ink Status Window.  However, the manual also says some features may not be available in my operating environment.
The About tab says HP Deskjet D4200 series (61.71.246.0), last configured by user (me) about a year and a half ago.
I think my operating environment is fine.  Perhaps it is my eyesite?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Now, I can answer my own question.
Go to Start, Run and enter:
    "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtbx01.exe"  "HP Deskjet D4200 Series"
This will bring up the Deskjet 4200/4260 Toolbox.

  • Estimated Ink Level feature in HP Deskjet 2050 J510 printer

Does anyone know why the shortcut of the HP Deskjet 2050 printer no longer has the estimated ink level feature?  It was there until 12/5/12 and now the entire window has changed. Now it only has the options to "See whats printing", "Customize your printer", and Set preferences".  I can.t find any reference to any updates that may have changed this, thus I have no restore point.  The only thing that has changed recently is the new version of the HP Support Assistant.  Could this have an effect on the printer software?

    @rodustep,
The fix for this issue would be to uninstall current software and download the lastest drivers for your printer. I am linking you to the software and driver page just select operating system and select full feature driver.

  • 7D Mark II Exposure Level Indicator missing in Manual Mode

    Hi guys
I just put my hand on the long awaited Canon7d mark ii; I was all excited up until I found out that there was no level indicator (horizontal) as it should be, on Manual mode. Weird thing is, all the other modes have the indicator illuminated except in Manual mode, which I believe is the mode whith the greatest need for it. To make matters worse, the vertical level indicator is far off to the right, and not very bright as well. C'mon Canon, you have a great product, but seriously!

    Firmware won't fix it.
And "the cop out or excuse" (nice - let's call it the reason) is that this is how it's done in the 1D-x and earlier pro bodies - and if it's good enough for pros, we should be able to adjust, eh?
    Took me about ten seconds.
and I soon to notice how anoying this is for many photographers,
Says who? You and one other guy on an under-used forum which is self-selecting for complaints?

  • Officejet Pro 8610 won't accept new ink levels

I love my new printer but of course, I have run into problems.  Once I was warned about ink levels in some of my cartridges getting low, I went online and purchased brand new HP brand replacements.  The printer report confirms they are HP despite getting some sceptisicm from a tech agent about the authemticity of the ink since I didn't purchases directly from HP.
In any case, I know how to replace the ink cartridges and have done so for the 2 colours needing  the change - cyana and black.  Now, the printer does not recognises that it has new full cartidges.  The printer keeps warning me that the cyan and black are critically low.  Eventually, I expect it will stop printing full stop.
This is annoying.  It seems like some kind of sensor issue and the printer is not getting the signal.
I have shut down the computer and printer altogther and rebooted both, no luck.
I have done another alignment and then shut off and on again (both computer and printer).
Nothing seems to work.  Please help and don't tell me I need to buy new ink cartirdges again.  They clearly WORK as I can print with them but the pronter WILL NOT RECOGNISE the new full ink levels.  I need to know the levels in order to know when to purchase more ink in time for the next dry out.

    Hey @CanadaMona,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you with resolving the cartridge detection issues that you're experiencing on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer. I understand that you have already replaced the black and cyan cartridges to no avail. This issue does sound like it may be a printhead issue. The printhead is what reads your cartridges and controls the ink for going on the paper. If the printhead is defective it can cause issues with detecting cartridges. I'm going to run you through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
    Step 1: Check the Printhead:
    1. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.
1 - Slot for opening the cartridge access door
    2.  To the right of your black cartridge you will see the grey printhead latch. Please lift that latch.
    3. Grasp the sides of the printhead, and then lift the printhead and pull it toward you to remove it. Please leave the cartridges in the printhead while you remove it.
    4. With the printhead removed, close the cartridge access door.
    5. Power off the printer.
    6. Power the printer back on. Once the printer comes on it will give you an error indicating that the 'printhead is missing' or that the 'cartridges are missing or damaged'. At this point, open the cartridge access door.
    7. Reinstall the printhead.
    8. Ensure that you snap the printhead latch back down to lock the mechanism in place.
    9. Close the cartridge access door.
Is the low ink message still displaying on the front panel of the printer?
If so, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Clean the cartridge contacts:
Find a clean, lint-free cloth (eyeglass wipes or coffee filters work well) that you can use to clean the cartridge contacts.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you proceed.
     Open the cartridge access door
1 - Slot for opening the cartridge access door
Push in on the front of the problem cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge toward you to remove it from its slot.
Remove the problem cartridge from its slot
With a clean, lint-free cloth (eyeglass wipes or coffee filters work well), wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge.
     Copper-colored contact on the cartridge
Carefully reinsert the cartridge into its slot, and then push the cartridge forward until it clicks into place.
NOTE: Make sure that the colored dot on the cartridge label matches the colored dot on the carriage slot.
Insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot
Repeat these steps for the other cartridges, if necessary.
    Close the cartridge access door.
    Close the cartridge access door
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!
