Missing Install Disc

Any idea how to get the "Final Cut Studio Install" disc via download? I started the install on my MacBook Pro this morning and headed out for work once the final disc was in. To my surprise, the installer is now asking for the first disc again... which is an hour away at home. I'm assuming I just need to mount it to finalize the process.

This is how to do it next time.
1. create a disk image of each FCS install disk.
2. move the disk images to an external firewire drive
3. attach the drive to the computer to which FCS will be installed
4. mount the images on the computer's desktop
5. start the install
6. go away
7. come back in a half hour or so and the installation is complete

Missing install disc (Snow Leopard) for OS X upgrade

Hi, I am going to upgrade to Mountain Lion OS X from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 when it releases, however, I DO NOT have the original SL Install Disc.
I read that there are certain steps that one needs to take to prepare a computer for this upgrade so that it goes smoothly. One of the things on the list is to do a hard drive verification for errors. I can do this in Utilities but it prompts me for the Install Disc in order to repair. It shows two minor errors (Invalid Volume File Count, Invalid Volume Directory Count) that need to be addressed and repaired but I can not continue without the Install Disc. Any suggestions?
Also, a friend has the same SL version install disc. Can I use his or do I need the ORIGINAL one that was originally installed with my iMac? I don't know if the MODEL INDENTIFIER, BOOT ROM VERSION and SMC VERSION will be affected since they are two different machines. Please help!
I can always contact Apple but was trying to avoid any additional costs of replacing the disc since I plan on purchasing a disc for the upgrade to Mountain Lion.
FYI, my iMac runs flawlessly right now and is loaded with software. I am so afraid I will have issues with software if I use another disc and I don't want to go through reinstalling all my software programs. It is a lot. I am hoping it will be okay but I wanted to ask anyone on here first.

Firstly, order the Snow Leopard DVD from Apple's Online Store even if you don't currently need it. Download and save the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 updater in your Downloads folder.
Secondly, you can use your friend's Snow Leopard DVD to do disk and permissions repairs, but not to install OS X on your machine.
Thirdly, follow these instructions:
How to Install Mountain Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade to Mountain Lion:
Purchase the Mountain Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Mountain Lion is around 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
The installer will start automatically after the download is complete. You should save a copy in your Downloads folder because the installer will delete itself automatically after the installation is complete.
Follow instructions for installation.

Wiping a used iMac with missing install discs

Hello all,
I am getting a used iMac from my brother within the next month or so. He has installed alot of 'junk' on it that I would like to remove. Preferably I would like to completely wipe the hard drive and start from scratch.
Currently it is running 10.6.8 but it does not have the original install discs that came with it when purchased new. Am I going to have a problem reinstalling the OS without the cds and what would everyone recommend as the best thing to wipe the drive?
I am very familiar with doing this type of thing on a PC, but I am much less experienced with Macs.

Phone AppleCare and order replacement disks; if the computer originally shipped with 10.6.2 or earlier, a retail Mac OS X 10.6 DVD can be used instead(they're available in the online Apple Store), but won't install iLife.

Missing Install. disc to MacBook pro

I have lost my luggage on a plan to UK including my installation disck to my Macbook-pro. Trying to buy a new copy of system 10.4 I was told that it is not possible to re- install system 10.4 to a Macbook-pro. Told something about the system was made after the release of the macbook. It sounds strange in my ears !

Hello Frank.
The install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific with build being the key.
The Tiger retail install package is not Universal - can be installed on a Mac with a PPC processor only that meets the minimum system requirements for Tiger. There is no reason for Apple to produce and sell a Universal Tiger retail install package since all Intel Macs have shipped with Tiger pre-installed which will change to Leopard when Leopard becomes available.
In addition, the Tiger retail install package does not include all the additional software provided on the install package that ships with a new Mac purchase.
Apple will sell the Leopard install package as a combined Universal package or as separate PPC and Intel versions.
I suggest contacting AppleCare and request a replacement install package for your Mac model and build.

Need to reformat. Missing Tiger Install disc.

I've been having multiple problems with my G5 for the past few days.
Here's a list in chronological order:
I came back from a vacation and my Mac took an incredibly long time to load up. Any program I tried to open either failed or took almost 10 minutes to open. Everything in the top right corner menu (time, airport) has been missing since then too.
Ran a hardware test, said everything was fine. Ran the usual verify/repair disk permissions. Said the HD couldn't be repaired.
I attempted to run a Mac OS software update, but it says it cannot be installed.
On top of that, when I plug my iPod into the mac, the computer recognizes it, however iTunes does not. I restored my iPod but that didn't work and now I have no music on it. (it is not in disc mode either.)
I've backed up everything as far as I know (Users, apps, etc.) and I want to reformat the drive. I cannot find my Tiger OSX Install Disc and only have my Panther OSX. Is there a way to reformat without having to reinstall the OS, and if not, will installing Panther cause problems?
I know that was lengthy, but I'd appreciate ANY help anyone can offer on any of those problems.

When I run "verify/repair disk permissions" Disk Utility freezes. When I use "Verify/Repair Disk" I get this message:

When running the Extended Hardware Test, I recieve an error message for Memory. this error message appears in the same window:

When I try to install the OS software update, I get this error message:

Sorry, an unexpected error occurred.

Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.

Okay,
If you are missing one of the install discs, there are two things you can do.
You need to contact Apple in order to get OS X 10.4 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard from Apple assuming they still have copies. Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 These discs will be replacement OS install discs. You will need to give the rep your Mac model and serial number and you'll, also, need a credit card as there is a nominal fee of around $18 for processing and shipping of the disc.
If Apple can't help you, then you can search on sites like Amazon for OS X 10.5 Leopard disc.
OS X 10.5 Leopard is the last OS X version that you can run on a PowerMac G5.

Is iLife '08 Included On The Install Disc?

I got this new iMac about two weeks ago. It came with iLife '08 included. For a couple of reasons, I did an erase and install and discovered I no longer had iLife '08, I called Apple support and was told that iLife '08 was on the install disc and when I called back and said that I could not find it (I installed all the software that was checked), I was told that a separate iLife '08 disc should have been included in the box. Apple is sending me another iLife '08 disc through the mail, but I really am curious if I missed something and that iLife '08 was on the install disc and which Apple support member was correct. The install disc came with 10.5.2. When I bought my first iMac G5 back in 2005, a separate iLife '05 disc was included.

I would also look at your installer discs for signs of iPhoto, and Garageband using the software called Pacifist from http://www.charlessoft.com/
If they are not visible, it may be you misplaced a disc, or the company you bought it from had it missing from the box they sold the machine to you from.
Note, the retail version of Mac OS X does NOT include iLife. Various retail versions of Mac OS X have included iPhoto 2, iMovie 3, and iTunes, which are outlined here, but iLife itself as bundled with Mac OS X has only come on Mac model specific discs:

Can't boot from install disc after new RAM & SSD install

I decided to breathe some new life in to my 2007 2.2GHz MacBook by:
-upgrading the RAM to 4gb w/Centon memoryPOWER 2GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 CL5 SO-DIMM Laptop Memory Module
-replace the HDD with a SSD (Samsung 840 Pro-Series MZ-7PD128BW 128GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Solid State Hard Drive).
-Also going from Leopard to Snow Leopard after the hardware upgrade, then possibly Lion/Mountain Lion...
What I've already done:
1. Backed up my hard drive using time machine, did not clone
2. Using the install disc/Disc Utility, I erased my old hard drive completely (Hope that wasn't a huge mistake!)
3. Replaced the previous 2gb (1x1gb) with the new 2x2gb RAM sticks
4. Swapped out the HDD with the SSD
When I went to boot the machine, all I get is a black screen. I can hear the optical drive spin for a while, then stop. Screen remains completely black. I have tried using C while starting as well as Control - same result. So, I put the old (erased) HDD back in and again got the same result. I didn't have time to put the old RAM back in and try again before work this morning and intend to tonight. Based on that, maybe my RAM isn't compatible even though the specs look to be...? But, does anyone know if the components I am using are not compatible? or did I totally screw up by erasing the old Drive prior to confirming this would work? Am I missing something else?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I was finally able to get it done using my old RAM, so that must be the weak link. I'm going to try to return the RAM I bought and try a different brand. Thanks For the response!

Holding c while resarting but will not boot from install disc

I have a G4 Titanium Powerbook currently running os 10.3.9.
I have been having troubles ever since upgrading to Quicktime a while back such as Quicktime not playing files, missing codecs, Pro-Tools and other software crashes, Itunes will not open with M-Box connected, etc.
I have tried to repair permissions with the disk utility and still same issues.
I have backed up all important files and would like to just reinstall the os 10.1 using the disc I got with the powerbook hoping to be able to upgrade back to 10.3.9.
I have tried to shutdown with the disk in and turn on with the c button pressed and it still boots up as usual.
I have also tried to restart holding c and still boots up as usual. I just cannot seem to get the powerbook to boot from the install disc.
The disc is the powerbook g4 mac osx 10.1 install disc.
What am I doing wrong?

mac osx install - which is 10.1
mac os9 install
software restore 1
software restore 2
mac osx developer tools
I have tried to boot by holding c with the mac osx install and the software restore 1 discs to no avail
I just tried to put itunes on the desktop run disc utility trash itunes reciepts and repaired permissions and got this messege which i seem to get every time but am still having issues.

Utility Option Not Showing Up on Install Disc

I am still new to my Macs and I am trying to do an erase and install to solve a Panic Kernel issue (got lots of help in forum posts and a final cal to Apple support lead me to this).
I have backed up in Time Machine. Put in the install disc, click on utilities, the it says to restart which I do.
It restarts and I get the language screen. Then the INstall Mac OSX screen.
Next option is continue, but then it goes right into the install. I need utilities to erase the disc. (I am only assuming I need to do it from the disc since the drive I want to erase has disc utility on it.
Am I missing a step?

Original 10.4 Tiger install disc keeps ejecting

I am trying to re-install my 2007 white MacBook to its original state so I can sell it. It currently has Lion installed, when I insert the original Apple 10.4 Tiger CD/DVD into the super drive the disc just keeps ejecting. All other discs work and the install disc does not eject from my MacMini.
Why is this happening?
How can I get Tiger installed on it from the original disc?

When trying to boot with a disc, it's say that the disc isn't compatible with your machine. ( I thing strongly. )
After you start up the machine normally, can you insert the disc?
You can manually delete things. You might miss a few things but you should get most.

start by deleting your id:
Create new Account
blue apple > system preferences
clicks on accounts icon
click on lock icon if locked.
enter logon password
click on + icon ( left side of screen just above the lock icon )
after creating new account, you need to logout of your current account.
blue apple > log out ... current count name ...
log on to new account. see if problem goes away.
if it has gone away rename finder preference ( Not sure of name ) ... reboot.

Imac PPC G4 sluggish, don't have install discs, any ideas ?

I have an old PPC G4 17" w/ 1 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.5.8 , I do not have any original discs. It has gotten more and more sluggish in spite of the RAM upgrade a few years back.
HArd drive is 75% empty and I ran Onyx routines, any suggestions what I can do to improve performance since I cannot do a fresh reinstall ?

You may have to get a retail full install DVD for Leopard 10.5 so you may
access the computer from there, and see about running Disk Utility from
the Installer, to Verify the hard disk drive, and also 'repair disk.'
There is supposed to be a way to run fsck in a single-user mode of startup
from the command-line; to help do certain tasks that may otherwise not be
possible if the discs are missing, or if other processes do not work.
It is best if you can perform maintenance with the booted OS X install disc.
• Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility & fsck:

{A retail Leopard 10.5 install DVD would not include iLife apps, or other
apps which may have accompanied the computer when new, or added
by some other owner with discs no longer with the computer now. An
iLife '06 would probably be most compatible with the iMac G4 & 10.5.8.}
Have you tried booting the computer via SafeBoot mode (shift key held
on startup until you get a starting OS X dialog box or login screen) then
use the system's Disk Utility and have it 'repair disk permissions' on the
Macintosh HD? When done, you restart the computer normally.

Depending on what iMac G4 model and build you have, it may be able
to support up to 2048MB of RAM if both slots can be upgraded. If your
iMac G4 has at least a 1GHz processor, or is USB2.0, it probably can
use more than the original supported amount of installed RAM capacity.
You may be able to add one 1024MB chip in the lower RAM slot, if
the computer is an iMac G4 1GHz or faster CPU for 1.5GB RAM.
Leopard demands more resources in some computer builds that did well
under Tiger 10.4.11, & in some instances 10.5 may be more problematic.
If you have an external FireWire hard disk drive enclosure with boot-capable
hard drive within it, a self-powered model with its own power adapter, it may
be possible to get and use a Clone utility to make a bootable clone/copy of
your computer's complete hard disk drive, to an external FW HDD, and then
test it, to see if it can run the computer the same as the original in-Mac HD.
With a successful clone of the computer's hard drive to an external FW HDD,
you could consider using the Clone's own Disk Utility (run from clone in the
FW hard disk drive) to secure erase or zero-overwrite and partition map, and
reformat the computer's internal hard disk drive; test & repair it, etc. Then use
the same clone utility (such as Carbon Copy Cloner, etc) to move a clone copy
back into the computer's hard disk drive. Then 'repair disk permissions' on boot
via the clone's Disk Utility, to be sure they are corrected and check out OK.
With an older computer, it may be the internal hard disk drive also may be getting
worn and could be starting to fail. There are third-party disk utilities such as
Drive Genius, and DiskWarrior; these should be of the correct version to help the
computer model and OS version, and not too old or too new for your configuration.
There's just too much to say; especially when your best first effort would be to
have the Leopard 10.5 retail full install DVD to check, test, repair, or replace the
computer's system. And an external FireWire type hard disk drive, which can
support booting OS X and work with clones.
So, there's a lot one could do; if you have access to the tools, even more.

? in file, install disc issues

I have an older iMac that froze and since nothing would 'move', I turned it off. When turning it back on,
the gray file with the ? mark appeared. I went through several suggested steps without success. I put
in the Install disc and it went as far as Select Destination. NO icons appeared and I could not continue.
Did I miss a step or am I really in trouble here? Thanks.

A few possibilities:
1. The hard drive directory is dead.
2. The PRAM battery is dead.
3. The Hard drive is dead.
If you aren't backed up, try a data restore to an external drive using one of these tools once you make sure the PRAM battery is less than 4 years old with an authorized service center. Tell them not to touch the hard drive, and only make sure the battery is current and not to turn on the computer either.
