  • Missing install disk on new MacBook Pro 15"

I just received a new MacBook Pro 15" from CDW.  There were no install/operating system disk's with the computer.  In the past my other mac's have come with the install disks.
Is this a new procedure for Apple?
I searched for discussions and on the internet but can not find a concise answer for this.

Look under the Apple menu for your OS X version, if it's 10.6.x then your missing your disks and you need to get them, either from CRW or Apple using your serial number.
If it's 10.7 then it's Lion and it doesn't come with disks, a recovery partition that requires a strong reliable fast internet connection to download and reinstall it.

  • WRT54G Wireless Missing Installation Disk

Okay, I'm doing this on the computer connected to the main router. The main router is connected to the other XP computer which I had to reinstall everything in. I don't have the installation disk anymore though. I've tried unplugging and plugging the devices and my computer isn't noticing. I am unable to get on the internet on that computer. So, I need to figure out how to download the disk from my computer and bring it up to the other computer. I've went through their customer service thing, attempted to download what they offered, and have not yet been successful. If anyone has any ideas or walkthroughs to get me there I'd really appreciate it.

Don't worry if you have lost the CD...You can configure your router manually...
First Reset your router -Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link
Make sure the Ethernet Light on the Router is ON when you connect a Computer to the Router's Ethernet Port...
If not try to change the Ethernet Port, try changing the Ethernet Cable.
Also make sure Local Area Connection is Enabled under Network Connection.
Also make sure Local Area Connection is set to 'Obtain IP Address Automatically' - Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local Area Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Obtain IP Address Automatically' and 'Obtain DNS Automatically'.

  • Installation disk refused by MacBook for Extreme base

I'm running a MacBook on Leopard and when I go to insert the Airport Extreme Base install CD it spins it up, hums a couple times, and spits it back out. It completely rejects the cd and won't mount it.
I just connected the base and I need to get some security going ASAP. Can I download this software for the base anywhere, or do you have ideas on how to make it work?
    The CD version is 3.2

Yes it says mac on the disk, and not windows. It will not load. I also went over to windows on boot camp and it won't load. Since I set up the airport through my macbook just now, it will not conect to the airpot on my Sony Vaio. It was initially showing in the network lit, but now it doesn't even show in the network list at some times, and some times it does. (but I am on the network right now on my MacBook). It just sits there saying "acquiring network address"
I need to find a way to get this software on my windows machines.
EDIT: I think I have got it to work on my windows machine.
    Thank you.

  • How do I reinstall Snow Leopard on an erased MacBook?

I think I did something stupid. I used the Disk Utility Tool from a booted Snow Leopard installation disk to erase my Mac partition. I needed to erase all old data. My Windows XP partition works fine. My previous Mac partition still exists but has nothing on it. At first I thought the installation disk was bad. However, I have gotten through about 10 minutes of the installation several times, but I keep getting an error saying it is unable to copy files for the installation. I have used the booted installation Disk Utility to repair the partition a couple of times and everything runs OK. I no longer have the orignial restore disks so that is out as an option unless I can find them or some to borrow that happen to match this MacBook. Again, the machine was running fine until I decided to do a clean installation the way I did. I have since discovered from the Apple Web site that I should after run the installation from the same session where I zero-erased the partition. Thanks. In over 20 years of using and supporting Macs I have not seen this problem before.

    Lyssa:
Thanks for your quick response. I am sorry for taking so long to give feedback. You were sort of right, but I never could boot from a different optical drive. However, your idea reinforced an idea we have been kicking around.
With firewire, I teathered my MacBook Pro (with Snow Leopard) to the leopardless MacBook. (Remember the MacBook did have two functioning partitions and the Boot Camp partition was working fine. The Mac partition had been erased.)
With the MacBook off, I booted the MacBook Pro and inserted the Snow Leopard installation disk. Then I powered on the MacBook while holding down the T key. The two MacBook partitions jumped up on my MacBook Pro and I started the installation from disk to the troubled MacBook Mac partition. The installation was quick and flawless.
I still don't know if my built-in DVD drive has a problem. It might.
Whatever the cause, now it works. Thanks for sharing your ideas and giving me a push to try some other out-of-the-MacBook solutions.

  • Help - need Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium Mac OS Installation Disk 2

    Hey there,
Hoping someone can help me out on here. I recently moved and purchased a new computer and went to reinstall CS4 only to find that I am missing installation disk 2. As Adobe no longer supports the media for this, they reccomended that I contact someon ont he Adobe Forums who might be able to assist.
Just need the Application Disk 2 for the Mac OS of CS4.
    Thanks!

Contact Adobe Technical Support. Installation problems for current versions of the suites and applications are resolved without charge. Despite the fact that 16MB of video memory is beneath stated requirements, it is unlikely that this particular shortcoming is what is causing your problems.

  • Macbook pro installation disks missing

I find that my installation disks are missing from my Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch corei5 model box. I was able to reference it only after i saw the unboxing video on youtube, What are my options now

If it came with Lion pre-installed then there are no installation discs included. See:

  • How to downgrade from OSX 10.8.5 to Snow Leopard, on an Early 2011 MacBook Pro, without the original installer disk?

Hello! So here are the specs.
I have an Early 2011 MacBook Pro, which came with OSX 10.6.6 by default.
I've lost my installer disk so I though I'd buy a retail one from the online Apple Store, and version 10.6.3 is what they sent me.
Simply running the install OSX app won't work, I get a msg saying:
-- You can't use this version of the application "Install Mac OS X" with this version of OS X. You have "Install Mac OS X" 23.1.1. --
So, I've tried booting from the new disk hoping to erase my current drive and install Snow Leopard, but no can do, I get 3 beeps and have to force shutdown (not RAM related, see below). Laptop works fine when I spare it this maneuver.
After some research I understand 2 things:
    1. Only the original installer disk will let me restore factory settings (and I don't have it).
    2. I can only install the default OSX (10.6.6) or a later version (that 10.6.3 DVD may not have the correct drivers for my system).
Are these conclusions right? If so, would the Apple Store replace my disk for an updated 10.6.6. one? If not, then what are my options?
    Thank you!

  • Unable to erase & install from installation disk

Somehow my macmini snow leopard software bit the dust (started with EyeTV corrupting I think) so after pursuing disk repair and other options I tried doing a fresh installation but accidently used an upgrade DVD of Snow Leopard rather than an original installation disk. Install failed. I pulled out my installation disk and tried holding down the C key to boot from disk. The best I get is the whirring grey circle, but I can't seem to get a disk boot up. Happy to do an erase and install on the hard drive - if I can get to it.
Any suggestions on how to force an installation DVD boot up apart from holding the C key down?
    All replies appreciated.

Both my iMac and MacBook Pro 13' went down on 13th April - and would not reboot - both had identical failures - which from probability should be extremely low - unless it is due to the same software problem.
After a number of attempts to reinstall 10.6, recovery of my time machine latest backup - all of which failed - just now recovery from time machine to March 30th date with 10.6.2 (just before 10.6.3 upgrade was installed) - finally worked on my laptop. I am going to try it on my iMac desktop tomorrow.
I think your problems are linked to 10.6.3 update as I am convinced - both machines failing
identically around the same time in the same fashion due to same software corruption seems greatly unlikely. I see that others are having problems with mouse etc after 10.6.3 update.
Looks like 10.6.3 update requires a big fix !!

  • Macbook Pro didn't come with Installation disk

Hello. My 13inch Macbook pro just arrived today. It's Mac OS X Lion 10.7. After powering it up my first order of buisness was to install windows 7 through bootcamp. Then I made the discovery that this Macbook didn't come with an installation disk which I find damned odd. I checked the box and the little notebook holders, and there's no disk. This thing isn't even a day out of the box, so should I call apple and see if they'll send me one or is there something I'm missing?

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating

BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

  • I bought a new iMac and am giving my old iMac to my brother.  I do not have my installation disk.  How do I erase all my information?

I recently bought a new iMac and am giving my old iMac to my brother.  I read up on how to erase my information before handing it over to my brother but they process included having my installation disk.  I do not have that disk.  I need to erase my information and upgrade the computer.

"Tiger Tiger burning bright ..." (sorry for the poetic diversion ...)
You can call Apple Customer Support, give them the serial number of the unit and pay $16 per disk to get new copies.  But they may not re-burn Tiger anymore.
If that is the case, you have to consider buying Tiger disks from an online store, or move up in the cat family.
Leopard disks only require PPC processors, and run $180 or so.  Apple *may* have some Leopard in stock if you call them.  Else you go online.
If the sysem has Intel processor, you can jump up to Snow Leopard, which is $29 in the Apple Online Store.

    Hi Andrew,
"Will my OS work fine? Will his or her OS still work fine?"
Not cornelius here, but, yes your install should work just fine if installed properly using a "full retail install" of Leopard. On the other hand, once a user sells their "Full Retail Install" disc to you, I believe they no longer have license to it to use on their machine. Full Retail Install discs are either single user license or sold as Family Pack discs (which means that it can be installed on up to 5 computers in the same household). That's my understanding. I wouldn't worry what the other user is doing as long as you have the Full Retail Install with license. Make sure the person selling the disc to you includes the original documentation with the disc (most that I see sold on the secondary market come still in their box with the original documentation).
I'm sure there are many users who install OS's illegally on more than one Mac using a single retail disc but they are doing so illegally.
I'm sure others here will correct me if I'm wrong but that is my understanding of a retail disc license agreement that one agrees to when installing from the disc.
    good luck,
    LS
