Missing Instruments in Loops

I am using Soundtrack Pro in Final Cut Studio 2. The instruments are missing from my loops. It seems the other sound effects and music cues are present (although, I've never seen a list of what, precisely is supposed to be included -- anyone know?).
I have done a search of my hard drive. I've combed through the Apple Loops folder. I've searched for "piano" and "cello" -- I've done a search of .caf files (apple loops). I am pretty convinced the instruments aren't on my hard drive.
In a search of this forum, someone spoke of "indexing"; but first gave the advice to return to "setup". That is a little vague for me --(both "indexing" and "setup") -- can anyone give me some instruction on how to use "setup" to try to add the loop files that didn't seem to make it onto my harddrive, during installation of Studio 2? And then how do I "index", if necessary? Thanks much.

Afaik, there's no instruments coming with Soundtrack Pro, only SFXs and Music Beds. The instruments are coming from Garage Band and/or Logic. However, if you didn't uninstall Garage Band, you should have them on your hard drive. If you don't see any instruments in your STP search tab, it's probably because they're not indexed. To index them, go to the Search tab, in the lower-right and click on the Setup... button. A new window will open. Once there, click on the + button and navigate to that folder: Library/Audio/Apple Loops. Select the folder "Apple Loops for Garage Band". STP should then index that folder.

    Unfortunately, you will have to learn to play an instrument, a terrible thing I know.
    Look under a Logic menu for  "Download Additional Content".

  • Instrument and Loop library

    I'm using Garage Band and considering upgrading to Logic or LE. Are the instrument and loop libraries bigger, more diversified in Logic? Somebody told me they were much better in Logic, so before I get another Jam Pack or add-on, I'd like to know if I'd be better off moving to Logic? Also, will Logic install over GB, or will it install to a separate location. Seems like it would be a waste of disk space to have both on there.

    Hi Kenny
    Just to be quite clear, you can't get Logic 8 by itself. You can only get it as part of the Logic Studio package.
    With Logic Studio, you get 5 jam packs included in the price but you do not get them in Logic Express. There is some duplication for sure but Logic also includes Garageband support by way of instruments and other settings. I've never worried too much.
    Additionally, Soundtrack Pro which comes with Logic Studio but not Logic Express, as a further 23 GB (yes twenty-three gigabytes) of loops, making it massively good value for anyone wanting to work with loops. Just make sure you have enough disk space (though you can install them on an external disk
    Hope that helps,

  • Installation of Software Instruments and Loops fails because of Version

    Hello, I'm right new to Mac, OS X and iLife.
    So here's my problem: GarageBand Version 4.1.1 (248) wants to install the rest of software instruments and loops, but fails with this error message (translated from german):
    Warning!
    For this update GarageBand Version 4.0 or higher is required.
    [Close]
    After this, the installation application closes.
    When I click a greyed loop in the browser this message appears:
    At the moment iLife'08 will install the software instruments and loops.
    Please be patient and look for the installation applikation in the dock.
    [Close]
    But nothing happens, no loops or instruments will be installed.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you for any help.

    Thank you for answering.
    No, I have not moved the app.
    Only thing I've done, was the software update.
    Now I've tried out wether it helps, if GB generates a new Application Support folder.
    I've renamed user/library/app. supp./garageband to garageband _org, and GB generates an new.
    But the same error appears.
    Maybe the Update to 4.1.1 is buggy?

  • Missing Instruments (horn section, trumpet section)

    I've just installed Jam Pack 1. JP 2,3,4 are also installed. Now I've indexed my loop browser and all seems smooth. But there is a problem. I took 'Havana Horns' and 'Havana Trumpets' from my loop browser and put them on tow different AU-tracks. The channel strip settings load, but I hear a bleep instead of horns/trumpets. Now the plugin says 'trumpet section' or 'horn section' missing. I even don't find them in my Garageband menu in the EXS. I've reinstalled it, repaired my disk permissions, re-indexed my loopbrowser etc., but still missing. Anyone an idea what's going wrong? How to find them, or how to reinstall them?

    Hi,
    The reason I ask the above question, is that, in general, it would be
    ideal if I could take solo trumpet samples, such as in this example,
    and also use them to construct two trumpets playing in unison,
    or three trumpets playing in unison. And, make it sound as close
    to "professional" as possible.
    In this way, similar techniques can be used for the French Horns and
    the trombones.
    The upshot being that I would not need to use settings which say,
    "Trumpets" or "Horns" or "Trombones", because at this stage,
    given my limited resources, I do not necessarily know how many
    trumpets are actually playing a given line (for instance, I have
    SAM free trumpets and I have Pro Sessions Brass, and they do not
    specify how many instruments are playing a given note, and sometimes
    it appears that the number of instruments playing gets quite large
    when the dynamic for the SAM free trumpets is increased).
    And, I do want to know exactly how many brass instruments are playing
    and control this, so that when I form chords using a mixture of
    brass instruments, with some brass instruments doubling the same
    note, that the effect mimics reality as far as chord balance goes. In this,
    tool, Logic Pro, and a sufficient set of solo brass samples, could
    be used as a neat learning tool (such as making sure that in forte,
    two French Horns double a note when the other notes are taken singly
    by Trombones and Trumpets, and the like). Although, there are other
    concerns with forming brass chords, so Logic Pro potentially becomes
    a neat test bed for more unusual set-ups and configurations of complex
    brass chords.
    Also, of course, I'd like a solo brass instrument to sound more realistic
    and "not in your face".
    Thanks,
    Sys6

  • Loops Missing in Index (Loop Browser)

    I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I've seen no adequate solution. Whenever I add loops to GarageBand, whether Apple or third party, nearly 1/5 of them never appear in the Loop Browser. The loops are on the hard drive, precisely in the spot where they were copied, but they never appear in the browser. I've tried reindexing, but to no avail. I can drag them manually from their home folders onto the loop browser, but they then lose all their associated information (instruments and all key/tempo settings, etc.). Any solutions out there? TIA.

    and the time signature?
    It is hard to know the default time signature when I can't view it in the browser. There are vast numbers of loops which never appear. For example, anything labeled "Waltz" never appears (despite me selecting 3/4 time). Likewise, in the Orchestral Pack, the "Mystic" and "Victory" orchestra loops never appear, regardless of the tempo or key signature I set on a new song... I'm gathering that the latter two are 3/4, judging from listening to the loops in QuickTime.

  • Share instrument in loops

    Hi,
    I'm wondering if there's a way to share an instrument panel within multiple loops/cases in labview? Basically I'm trying to get an IV chart based on the test the user selects, the only way I can correctly get this to work is have an individual graph within each case. Obviously this is not ideal as it would require numerous charts on the instrument panel. I know there must be an easier way to do this but can't figure out how. Right now I only have an instrument for case 1 and have left the other 4 cases unwired for testing purposes.
    Thanks,
    Konrad

    So basically the event would push the data out of the loop if the values changed? Would the loop then continue until complete?
    Konrad
    The loop would be your main loop, taking measurements and/or reacting to UI changes until you close the program. Which would land in one of 3 designs (requiring more or less modifications to the current code):
    State machine
    Event driven program
    Producer/consumer
    I've come to like the producer/consumer a lot lately, though it's also the biggest modification. The 2 other ones can be quite similar, in the state machine the state is the main controlling information, and in 1 state (idle) you can have an event structure handling stuff. In the other case it's the other way around, the Event structure is the main controller and in the timeout or user event case you'll do your measurements.
    In all designs you should have information going through the program in shift registers in the main loop so you can access it and avoid unnecessary controls/indicators/data copies and keep a good wired flow.
    In this case i'd try the State Machine, with an type-defed Enum for states it's easy to expand and keep code modular. The states structure can be direct-, array-, queue- or event-based, but i think the direct form will be good enough, it's rather easy to change to one of the others, should it be needed.

  • Missing / No "Apple Loops Index" Folder of TXT Files

    I've been having a weird issue for a while now, even after doing a clean install of Yosemite again. It seems I've never had an Apple Loops Index folder in my Macbook's Library, and even when I make one from scratch in the proper location and run a loops re-index from both LPX and GarageBand, no .txt index files are made. I've never seen the folder or files before. The reason why I'm asking about this is because I've had some issues with missing Apple Loops folders that I definitely have in my HD library, but they won't show up. Many support forums advised trashing the Apple Loops Index text files and re-indexing, but I have no way of finding this folder. Has anyone experienced this or read any similar issue reports?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
    Loops reside in a few files.
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops (if you installed any thiord party guys)
    The index files are here:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
    To move the loops to an external drive:
    1. Move all of the loops from the Apple Loops folders above and move them to the external drive.
    2. Delete all of the Index files.
    3. Use the Loop Browser to reindex the loops from the new drive.
    Be sure to drag the loops as individual folders (in other words if you store them in a folder called loops and then have groups of loops under that) if you don't, you will have one large group instead of several smaller ones. It makes it easier to find what you want.

  • It's better or necessary open and close communication with instrument every loop?

    I must communicate with my instrument, but I must change its value, for example temperature, every loop. See the Figure to understand:
    I think that it is better if I open communication with my instrument out of while loop so I many operation: if I put Open VISA in While loop I open VISA session every loop, instead I think it is not intelligent. Can I open VISA SESSION out of the while loop or it is an error for EXCELLENT LABVIEW VI and I must open and close VISA SESSION every times I must talk (and set) with instrument? What is the better way?

    Something like this?
    I do have to say, i don't know what is happening in the false case of yours, but if nothing happens with the 100 that is wired to the shift register, once you enter the true case, the value in the shift register will always be great than "i". You might as well do what I have done then. However, if something does happen with that number in your false case, then keep it the way you have it.
    That being said, why is the condition there to see if it has looped 100 times before doing the visa write??

  • What are the new instruments and loops included with 7.2?

    Subject says it all.
    Thanks

    •New instruments: Radio Sounds, Nature Sounds, Comedy Noises, Applause and Laugher.
    •New loops: 520 loops in iLife Sound Effects folder.
    I may be wrong! I haven't installed 7.2 yet.

  • No library files - no instrument samples, loops?

    Hi! I've had an Mac OS X for quite some time now, and i recently found out that I haven't got any loop files or instrument samples in Garageband. I've tried Garageband on a friends Macbook, and it had everything.
    I have got a lot of effects (like the jingles and such), but there isn't any loops.
    Can anyone help me to get these files? I've heard a lot about someone having problems with an file error, but I'm not having that problem. There's simply just nothing in the folder containing the files.

    I've been all the way into the Garageband folder in Application Support. There isn't anything.
    That's not where the loops are stored. But anyway, you should probably just re-install GB.

  • Imported loops are missing in the loop browser

    I have been having this problem ever since I purchased my mac last September. I tried upgrading to iLife '05 and Garageband 2 to try and fix the problem to no avail. I have checked (and doublechecked) the loop indexes for Garageband. There are three of them. The first is for the original loops included in Garageband. Then there is the single loops folder. Finally, there is the loop index of my Soundtrack Loop library that I am trying to import. I should note, here as well that it HAS successfully indexed the entire Soundtrack Loop library. Even the loops that don't show up in the loop browser are accounted for in the loop index. Also, I have confirmed that all of the actual files are where they are supposed to be, referenced to by the index. I have tried reinstalling Garageband 2 twice, and found no change. Any other advice in this realm would be hot.
    Thanx,
    Ben

    That's correct, 2 semitones. And of course you don't turn off the keyword browsing with this checkbox, you can still browse the loops by keywords. You turn off the "filter for better results" that doesn't show you the loops that are more than those 2 semitones away from the key that you set for your song. What you can't turn off is that the loop browser only shows you loops that match the measure of your song - so you get very few when you use an exotic measure.

  • [solved] C: What am I missing in this loop/switch?

    I'm quite new to C. I'm trying to put together a simple menu (in console), where the program presents a few choices, the user enters a choice, and is then prompted for further information. What I have is this:
    int main ()
    char selection;
    char data;
    while (selection != 'q') {
    printf ("MAIN MENU\n\n");
    printf ("a\nb\nc\n");
    printf ("Enter choice: ");
    scanf ("%c", &selection);
    switch (selection) {
    case 'a':
    printf ("Enter a: " );
    scanf ("%c", &data);
    break;
    case 'b':
    printf ("Enter b: " );
    scanf ("%c", &data);
    break;
    case 'c':
    printf ("Enter c: " );
    scanf ("%c", &data);
    break;
    default:
    printf ("Default.\n");
    break;
    printf ("You entered %c.\n\n", data);
    printf ("\nGoodbye.\n\n");
    What I want is this:
    $ ./a.out
    MAIN MENU
    a
    b
    c
    Enter choice: a
    Enter a: A
    You entered A.
    MAIN MENU
    a
    b
    c
    Enter choice: q
    Goodbye.
    What I get is this:
    $ ./a.out
    MAIN MENU
    a
    b
    c
    Enter choice: a
    Enter a: You entered
    MAIN MENU
    a
    b
    c
    Enter choice: q
    Goodbye.
    I don't understand why it's looping through again after executing the case's printf () but before the case's scanf () statement. I assume there's some nuance of either switch(), printf(), or scanf() to which I'm not yet privy. Or maybe some really, really dumb newbie mistake. Can anyone enlighten me?
    (PS: It's not homework, even though it probably looks like it. I threw together this simple example rather than edit the code of the actual project.)
    Thanks!

    Do NOT do this, because it'll write '\0' to *(&selection + 1), which is a random location somewhere on your stack.
    Glad I didn't try that one, then. After some googling and man pages, I ended up using this (putting it here in case it happens to help anyone else in the future):
    int input;
    char selection;
    while ((input = getchar ()) != "\n")
    selection = (char)input;
    Worked like a charm every time.

  • Missing instrument sounds after upgrading from '11 to 10

    When I upgraded from Garageband '11 to 10, a messaged appeared on my screen asking me if I wanted to download several gigabytes of extra instruments sounds.
    Of course I pressed the "Okay" button, and the progress bar showed that the data were downloaded.
    But I don't know where those instrument sounds went to, and what name they're under, and where to look for them, because there was no window that appeared after the download to show the location of the new instrument sounds or information saying that they had been installed in Garageband.
    My downloads folder on my Mac doesn't show any relevant file or folder from the date when I upgraded.
    I already bought Mainstage a year or two ago and downloaded the Jam Packs via Mainstage at that time, and I don't know if those Jam Packs have anything to do the "extra" instrument sounds that I supposedly downloaded as part of my Garageband upgrade.

    For example, if the additional content has been installed, you should be seeing these drummers, if you select a Drummer Track:
