Missing items in my library and need to restore last backed up version.

My library is missing several items and playlists. My iPad has some of those items! but when I try to sync! the system wants to delete everything on the iPad.
How can I restore my last library back up?

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

It should be in your TC backup. If not, you will need to Reinstall OS X
Note that with Mavericks, you need to go to: /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Network Utility.app
(You can drag to your Dock, or make this an alias)

You can't install any application which requires iOS 4.3 or newer on a first or second generation iPod touch. If you still have a copy of that application compatible with iOS 3.1.3 or 4.2.1, import it into the iTunes library and sync it.

When it powers back up it takes me to a screen indicating I need to attach it to iTunes. The iPad was loaned to me so I did not have a need to back it up. Can anyone help me restore the settings without connecting to iTunes?

When you reset to factory settings, you erased all content and settings. That restored it to factory settings except that it kept the latest iOS update.
The person who loaned it to you can connect it to iTunes on their computer. They will be given the option to restore from their backup.

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one. Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

Depending on the age of your machine and the version of iPhoto, you may be able to download it from the App Store - but you'll need her account details to do so.
Other than that you'll need to purchase it on the App Store.

If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

No, sorry... did not happen becasue no such model exists.
If the device is in recovery mode, any data on it is already lost.
The only options are:
Restore the device to get it functional.
Enjoy the paper weight.
For what reason did you attempt to update the device without first ensuring that your data was safe, meaning backing up the device and copying important pictures/videos taken with the device to a computer?
