Missing lens profile (Canon 500 F4 IS)

The Canon 500mm F4 is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) lens among canon wildlife photographers.  And yet it has never been included in the ACR.  Why is this?  How do I rattle Adobe's cage to get them to add this very popular lens?

Although that lens might be the most popular lens among wildlife photographers, it might not be one that Adobe has chosen to profile yet. If you go to the Adobe labs website you can download the Lens Profile Downloader which is a program that will link to a website where others have created and posted lens profiles. You might find one there. Or, on that same website, you can download the Lens Profile Creator which is a program that will enable you to create your own profile.
As a side note (and something you are probably aware of), lens profiles are file format sensitive. In other words, a profile that was created for raw images will not be visible or available for JPEG images.

  • ACR missing lens profile

In trying to use lens adjustments the Canon 500/4L IS lens is missing from the list.  The 400mm & 600mm lenses are in the list.
Where do I find profiles for missing lenses?

    Check online for updates.
We've tried to profile the lenses we have (including many personal lenses) - but we don't have a complete database.
We've even rented lenses to get a good set of the most popular lenses - but rental agencies don't have a complete set, either.
So, we're still working on it.

  • Removing Photoshop Elements 9 caused missing lens profiles in Lightroom 3.3

After my trial on Photoshop Elements 9 expired I removed it from my Windows Vista system.  The next time I started Lightroom 3.3 I tried to apply a Canon lens profile to some new images and the profile was missing, not only was it not on the list, none of the 862 images taken with this lens had the profile applyed to them anymore.  I tried to repair the installation and it failed saying I was missing components.  I then tried to upgrade to RC 3.4 & it failed with the same message.  I finally thought it might have been caused by the removal of Photoshop Elements so I went to the restore point that it did prior to removal.  Now I have the lens profile back that was missing the Canon EF28-135mm profile as well as to the other 862 images.  My question is should there be anything else I should look for to see if it is missing or damaged?  Thanks - Larry

    Larry,
The common part between LR and PSE is the Camera Raw part (ACR). It's settings are contained in 2 different locations:
    1) General ACR configuration files:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw
This directory contains lens and camera profiles installed with LR
    2) User related configuration files:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw
    This directory usually contains:
    Downloaded/created lens profiles
ACR defaults (like ACR cache size, any defaults set in LR)
    Downloaded/created camera profiles
You might want to check the content of those 2 locations. One other alternative would be to uninstall and re-install LR, which should take care of the factory supplied profiles.

  • Lens profile - Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM

I am using Lightroom V5.  When I went to use the Lens Profile Correction feature, I could not find this lens in the database. This prime lens is one that is most recommended for portrait work on a Canon EF-S body. Why doesn't Adobe have a lens correction profile for it? Has anyone created one? Thank you.

So... can SOME lens profiles be used on JPG, and some only on RAW? I seem to have a choice of many other lenses for JPG files, so I'm not sure why the 16-35mm would only be for RAW. Can someone shed some light?
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Ben
    Hi,
As with other camera manufacturers Canon applies lens correction data during the in-camera production of the JPG, although not as much as it applies in DPP. Therefore typically it is only required to correct the RAW file.

  • Lens profile Canon g1x mark II

    Dear all,
yesterday I installed the new Lightroom 5.5.
I own a Canon G1X Mark II (as a second camera). I can view and work with the raw files of this camera, no problem (this was working with 5.4, too).
But I cannot see this camera model in the lens profile selection. Only the previous model is listed.
Now my questions: Is a lens profile for the new mark II available?
Or will it come with a new release?
Does anybody know if there is a public lens profile available?
    Regards
    Bernd

I’d guess the G1X has always-on profiles encoded in the raw files so there’s no external Adobe profile needed.
Starting with Camera Raw 8.4 plug-in for Photoshop, it will say when there is a built-in, always on profile being used, but LR didn't get this capability, yet.  curvature of straight lines parallel to and near to the borders of the photos or do things look relatively straight.  If the latter, there is probably a lens profile being used behind the scenes, already.
If you want you can upload a G1X raw file you're curious about, using www.dropbox.com and post a public download link, here, and maybe someone will see it and test for you in Photoshop.

  • Bridge missing lens profiles

Hi there, for some reason my new copy of the latest Bridge seems to only show 6 lens profiles for nikon.
Bridge has been updated to the most current update but that didn't seem to help...
Can anyone shed some light on what the problem could be here?

Yes, you only get the non-raw profiles when you process TIFF/JPEG files. FWIW I get 8, so you might want to update Camera Raw anyway.
You might not know that there are a wealth of 3rd-party profiles out there, which you might find useful. You can easily search for them online in Photoshop's Lens Correction filter by clicking the ... erm ... Search Online button.

  • Missing lens profiles in L4?

Why so litthe of them so far? When will be updatet to at least L3.6 amount?

    Lee Jay,
    Thank for your prompt reply.
I ordered L4 (box) and try the trial version in the meantime. I need TAMRON 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3DiII VC PZD B008E lens profile, but L4 shows only one Tamron lens profile (SP AF 28-75 mm f/2.8). Is it because it is trial, or the mistake is somewhare else?

  • Missing lens profile in LR 5.2 RC

I've been waiting for an update that includes a lens profile for the AF_S Nikkor 18-35mm 1:3.5-4.5 G W/A lens. I thought it would be in RC 5.2 or Camera RAW 8.2 RC. But, no. Closest I can now come is the more expensive 16-35mm W/A. I'm using this on the D600.

It doesn't appear that either of the two profiles you listed are specifically for the newer Nikkor 18-35mm 'G' lens. You can use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader to install the available 1.0 crop factor profiles. One is listed as a 'D' lens, which is clearly not what you want. The other two don't specify which  lens was used. Try the two below and see if the Vignetting and Distortion corrections appear correct with one of them. Since this lens was introduced a little over six months ago my guess is that none of the Adobe or Download lens profiles are for the 'G' lens, which is substantially improved over the 'D' lens. You may be able to use them by reducing the "default" Distortion and Vignetteing settings from 100. You'll need to check the results over the zoom range for distortion and aperature range for vignetting. Keep in mind that full 100% correction of vignetting and distortion is usually not desireable with a super wideangle zoom, which can make the image look "unnatural."

  • Missing Lens Profiles

I've just upgraded to 3.4 from 3.2 on a Mac 10.6.6 (mostly because one of my lenses finally has a profile).  But I only see the new lens profiles listed when I'm working with a RAW file.  They don't show up when I'm working with a jpg image.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

thanks for the answer.  I just found another post on this too.  Sorry about that, I should have spent more time looking.

  • Missing Lens Profile

I have the latest LR update but notice that a lens profile for my Sigma 170-500mm is not in the list under lens correction. Any tips or suggestions on how or where I could get this from?

Although that lens might be the most popular lens among wildlife photographers, it might not be one that Adobe has chosen to profile yet. If you go to the Adobe labs website you can download the Lens Profile Downloader which is a program that will link to a website where others have created and posted lens profiles. • Canon 60D w/ EF-S 15-85 IS USM missing lens profile in Lightroom 4

This is a Canon kit combination and it seems odd that it's not included in the Canon profile for lens correction.  The EF-S 10-22 IS USM is there which is not a kit lens and quite expensive.  Am I missing a step or do I have to download additional lenses from Adobe?  I'd rather not get into downloading someone's guess from the profile creator if I can avoid it.

It is included, but it's a raw-only profile.
There are also two on the downloader, one of which I produced.  It has nothing to do with guessing.

  • Missing lens profiles in LR 5

When I try to use Lens Correction in LR 5 I get a restricted number of profiles, none of which match my standard Nikon 28-300mm zoom. However when I open the images in Camera Raw I have automatic access to this profile. I also have access to a custom Fuji profiles which I have downloaded and installed with Adobe Profile Downloader but which don't appear in the Lightroom module. Can anyone suggest a solution to this other than developing my images in Camera Raw before using Lightroom?
I had always assumed that Camera Raw formed the basis of Lightroom.

I have just checked in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.3\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\Nikon and found the profile for my lens, however it DOES NOT APPEAR in the Lens Corrections\Profiles module nor do several of the other makes of lens which are in subdirectories in this folder. Any information would be welcome at this point.

  • In ACR add lens profile for Canon 500 F4 IS

The Canon 500 F4 IS is an extremely (perhaps the most) popular lens for wildlife photographers.  Yet it is missing from the lens profiles.  Why?  How can I request that Adobe get on the ball and include this popular lens?

Which version of mac os x are you using?
If your using a version newer than mac os x 10.6.8 snow leopard, then see if installing the 8.6 dng converter gives you that lens profile in camera raw.

  • Missing Canon lens profile into lightroom

    Hi Guys
I have LR4.1 and I just realized that I am missing the one for my 100-400 f4,5/5,6
any idea how can I get it ?
    Many thanks
    have a super day, Thierry

It is possible to save a duplicate of the lens profile file, and "kludge" it from Raw to non-Raw using a text editor. This generally works well enough; much better than manual corrections alone - provided that the camera is not also applying lens correction, and so confusing matters.
