Missing ligature font chars

I have some pdf in which 'ligature' font chars are missing: I can see correctly 'ff' and 'ffi' chars displaying the pdf, but If I copy and paste text (or extract text using SDK) there are no 'ffi', 'ff' chars (with copy-paste a see a square instead of that chars).
I don't generate this pdfs by myself, so I don't know the generation process.
My doubt is: I can see correct chars even if embedded text is bad, why? Is there a way to extract good text?
If  I do a pdf->ps->pdf conversion, the missing chars problem is fixed. I can copy and paste text and I see correct ligature font chars. How this could be possible?
Thanks in advance

It isn't guaranteed to solve the problem - in fact, it will only do so in VERY SPECIFIC use cases.
It does it because this process is COMPLETELY REWRITING the PDF.  NONE of the original PDF remains, which is why this is an extremely lossy operation.  BUT if the font that was used is present on the machine, then that font information is used instead of the bad data in the original PDF.

  • My Font Book is missing some fonts??

    Hi,
I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Tiger is backed up on a portable drive that is currently plugged into a USB port on my Mac.
    The following has happened three.
I just opened a website and a window opeds (on the Mac not the website) telling me that Safari wants to use a certain font (in this case Garamond) that is on the Tiger Back up drive. I don't recall the name of the other two fonts.
Is there any particular reason why the Font Book on Leopard does not have these fonts?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't add them?
How do I do add them? Is it just cut and paste (I don't want to mess anything up)?
    Thank you.

Just copy and paste to add.
Depends on how you upgraded as to what would have been copied where, and may explain why fonts are now missing.
Font book by default only installs fonts for you, but you may have changed it to install for all users, in which case it would copy to your main system folder and would explain why they are missing as you now have a new system folder. Nothing is carried over from old to new system folder when upgrading.
Just copy the missing fonts from the drive to your machine. Should just be a double click to install.

I'm missing several font families from the properties character font family inspector in my Flash CS5 ide on os x. These fonts are present in my font dir and are available in all my other CS5 suite applications (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, AfterEffects, etc).

  • Missing system font for template

I was trying to load a template (Info, Checkbox), but am getting the error message that this project uses a missing system font: applemyungjo regular. Anyone know where I can get this font?

I'm not sure why LT thinks it needs this Korean font, but it now has what it wants. When I did my erase and install of Leopard, I did not include the optional foreign fonts. I reinstalled the fonts from the install disk for the computer (without having to touch Leopard installation) and it works now.

  • [Perm] InDesign missing necessary fonts or CMAP files.

    Hi there...
I searched and found a thread on this before but I still haven't been able to solve my problem.
I performed a clean install of Jagaur on my system. G3 iMac DV SE 500 Mhz (Snow) and it has 768 MB RAM.
I then installed InDesign 2.0 from the CD and it installs fine. When I launch InDesign I get the error that "Missing Required Fonts or CMAP file. Please reinstall InDesign" -- I've reinstalled about 50 times with the same result.
    I've tried the following:
    - Deleting all instances of Adobefnt.lst
    - Deleting all InDesign support files from the root>library>application support>adobe folder and the user>username>library>preferences folder.
I'm at my wits end. InDesign performs flawlessly on my Titanium Powerbook G4, also running Jaguar.
Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
    :) Mordy

    I FOUND IT!!!
For some odd reason, the Application Support in my user>username directory was locked and owned by the system -- therefore, the ID installer couldn't put the files there (the files WERE in the root>library>application support folder but I guess that wasn't good enough. Anyway, I reset the owner of the folder to myself (admin) and then manually copied the fonts and cmap files there and it launched!!!
    YAY!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who helped both physically and mentally...

  • Missing one Font "Showcard Gothic"!

I have a new PC, old was Win 7 new is Win 8. I'm missing one font "Showcard Gothic", where I can downloaded from? I also saw from FAQ: Fonts changed when changing OS! Is that true?
I contacted Tech support in Microsoft to see the availability of the font, and I have been told that Photoshop use their own fonts!! Please help. Thanks.
OK, I contacted Adobe Photoshop Tech support, and the response was: The font you are referring to, don't come with the operating system or in Photoshop CS6. Photoshop utilize any available fonts from any other software installed on the same PC. In my case the font "Showcard Gothic" was available in my old PC from Microsoft Office 2010. Currently, in my new PC I purchased Office 2013, which it don't have that font.
The solution: deactivate MS Office 2010 from old PC, and install it in new PC. You don't have to use MS Office 2010 in the new PC, but the fonts that comes with it will be available to Adobe Photoshop CS6.
Gee, I thought if I upgraded everything to the latest and the greatest, everything will be wonderful...wrong.
I hope my experience with this matter will help someone reading this post, and saving them time searching for a solution. My wife always tells me, when I upgrade anything "No, I don't want it. I want only ON and OFF". :>

There are many fonts that come with your OS (Windows 7 or 8). Other applications will install extra fonts when you install them.
In your case, Showcard Gothic does not come with your OS. Nor does it come with Adobe products. Instead it comes from Microsoft Office products.
When you started working on the new computer, it did not have all of the same applications installed, including the fact that is was missing any applications that would install Showcard Gothic. You need to install an application on your new computer that includes Showcard Gothic. Here is a list provided by Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=599
Photoshop and other Adobe products will allow you to use the fonts that are installed on your system. If the font is not installed on your system, you will not be able to use it in Photoshop.
The information you were given previously is correct and that fact that you do not have Showcar Gothic installed on your new computer has nothing to do with Photoshop or Adobe.

  • Locate missing Chinese Font?

    Hello all,
Is there any way to locate a missing chinese font?
When I open the file in Illustrator it tells me I am missing a chinese font and replaces it incorrectly.
Problem is that the font description is terrible "#bc#d0#b7#a2#c5#e9-WinCharSetFFFF-H".
I am told it is a "Standard Windows Chinese font" but I run a mac and so that doesnt help much either.
Is there a way in Illustrator or Adobe Pro to find the exact font name embedded (i.e. "wtcct.ttf")?
Or maybe to decipher these characters (#bc #d0 etc...)?
    Any help appreciated!

Or maybe to decipher these characters (#bc #d0 etc...)?
That would probably be pointless... If it's "Standard Windows Chinese font", those hex values may be mapped to otehr characters in other languages/ fonts, so you still need to know the exact font. So more or less you still need to find out what font was used and install them. Kind of a circular argument here, you know...

  • How can I reinstall missing system fonts?

I used FontXplorer X Pro to organize my fonts sometime back. I just updated it to 9.2.2 and found in the ReadMe file that the update was correcting the fact that 9.2.1 deleted some of the system fonts. How can I restore the missing fonts?
I'm thinking of uninstalling FontXplorer and then reinstalling it and starting fresh with a new setup. But I still need missing system fonts. Safari is asking for ZapfDingBatsITC; activating the ZapfDingBats I have doesn't work.
I have the install disk for OS X Snow Leopard. There is no install disk for Mavericks since it was a download only (I believe this since I can't find the DVD). Would I be able to pull system fonts from the Snow Leopard disk? I looked the Snow Leopard disk contents but don't dare to try anything.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bonnie

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Then re-install the OS.

  • Missing Theme Font

Cant start iPhoto error message missing theme font, the font is required to run the application

Perhaps iPhoto did not download completely.  The fonts are stored inside the application bundle.
Delete iphoto from the Applications folder (don't empty the Trash, so you can put it back, if need be)
Then sign into the App Store, go to the Purchased tab, then install iPhoto again.

  • Missing system font?

    Hello,
    please have a look at
    screenshot.png.
The font in the property boxes (I don't know the exact name
of these elements) in DW 2004 is pixelized.
How could this happen? Which system font uses DW?
    Greetings, Carlos

You can compare the fonts you still have to this list:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332
If any of the critical system fonts are missing, you should be able to use something like "pacifist" to extract the missing fonts from your OSX install disks and replace them. Font problems can cause all manner of strange behavour.

  • Some characters show as grey box (missing from font?)

Browsing, e.g. <http://www.haskell.org/onlinereport/haskell2010/haskellch4.html#x10-820061>, some of the characters are replaced by a grey placeholder box. Comparing with the desktop, one seems to be U+22C6, so I'm thinking that it can't find a font to display that with. But it seems to affect some ordinary ASCII-range characters too, in Fig 4.1 and following text at the URL above, so maybe there's more going on?
More generally, from other questions here I gather that Firefox is using its own fonts rather than relying on what's on the device already. So, can I shore that up with some good fallback fonts like symbola?

Firefox will use Charis or Clear Sans by default. Though if the glyph is not found in those fonts it will check the other system fonts such as Roboto or Droid Sans.
The glyph coverage should be the same as Chrome or the 'browser/internet' application. If it is not then we would need a copy of the fonts installed on the phone as we have run into phones that ship corrupt fonts. Doing this requires the Android SDK and executing the following command
    adb pull /system/fonts/
Then zip the fonts and share them with us.

  • Why is my mac missing certain fonts and not displaying some pictures, is just a little blue box with a question mark in it?

  • Missing / Damaged Font? Safari Look Up

When I use Look Up to search for an address in Safari I get a window with the familiar Block A's, indicating that a font is missing. See image below:
I moved the fonts which were installed by Yosemite in the folder ~ Library / Fonts to the folder where I store my fonts as I don't need most of them. I made them available through FontExplorer v4.2.1. That way I can enable/disable fonts more effectively. I tried enabling the fonts one by one but to no avail.
I want to have a compact font list in the apps I use (Adobe CS6) — I don't need Chinese or other international fonts.
Does anyone have a clue about what font is missing?

It could be some corrupt preferences file. Create a new account and see if you have the sme problem there.
