Missing Log and Transfer Clip Browsing window

Help!!!
I was using log and transfer to import videos. My daughter came along and clicked somewhere in the log and transfer window. Now all I see is the right handside pane of a particular clip. I lost the left hand side where I see the list of clips from my media. How do I get it back?
Thanks

Hi -
Did she accidentally swipe it to the side?
There is a pane size bar in the middle of the window, if that gets dragged to the right the preview window will be hidden:

Grab it with your cursor and pull it back to the center

  • I cannot log and transfer clips that are longer than 5 minutes.

    Hello,
I am trying to log and transfer several clips from my Canon Vixia HF S11 camcorder. When I attempt to transfer a clip into Final Cut Express that is longer than 5 minutes, it stops right when it is about to finishe and says, "Unknown Error." Due to the volume of my HD footage, I am working on an external hard drive with ample space. Could this be the problem? Should I attempt to transfer these longer clips onto my MacBook hard drive? Thank you very much for you help.

Use Disk Utility (in your Applications>Utilities folder) to erase the drive and reformat as Mac OS Extended. There are differing opinions regarding whether or not you should select journaling. With media drives, I tend not to. (This process will, of course, erase what's on the drive presently.)

  • Log and Transfer - Clip Sorting Issue

Hello. I have been using an AVCHD camera for some time now, and when I would use the Log And Transfer the clips would show up in the order they were recorded. I accidentally pressed a tab at the top to sort a different way, and now I can't get back to how it was. See http://dcdl.info/20100212171440.png for a screenshot. I know it has to do with how the clips are automatically named.
If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

    Just a thought!
Right-click on the "Name" field and check "Date Created" in the drop-down list. If you now sort using the Date Created column, will this reorder the clips as you want them? If not, are there any other options in the list that might?

  • Log and transfer clip setting over clip #100 +

When I selected all clips on log and transfer, they stop at Clip #99. It could not transfer more than #100. I had to rename to a, b, c, etc. Is there any preferance settings to accept over #100? I want to keep them in order.

All cards start with #1? I don't see "#1" anywhere.
I see the clip names, like 0001MS, 0002Z8 and so on. And VOLUME NAME is the name of the card or name of the folder you put the card in. The second card MIGHT start again with 0001, but have another code, like "0001GU, 0002B2" and so on. Because that it the first one on that card. IF a shot spanned from one card to the next, the number scheme would continue, like you are seeing. 0057HW, 0058J9, something to that effect.
This is the way P2 names clips, and there is nothing you can do to change this. Import them, and then rename them...fine.
Are you saying that it can't go beyond shot 100? 0100YU, but no 0101IK? P2 can go to 999.

  • Log and Transfer Clips are in order from name, not actual time of recording

When I first installed my Final Cut Express HD and went to Log and Transfer, the clips were organized properly (#1 #2 #3 etc.), but one time I accidentally hit the "Name" column at the top, which then put all the clips in order by name (#1 #10 #11). This makes things a lot harder for me when I only need to select certain clips. I've tried re-installing the program, but to no avail. Can someone please help me get this back to the order in which the clips were first recorded?

I found out the problem.  The controls do not work if the AVCHD footage is in SD.  They do appear if footage is in HD.

  • Cannot reconnect to Canon HF11 in Log and Transfer window

I am using a Canon HF11 HD camcorder with FCEHD and was able to view, log and transfer clips into FCE without a problem. I saved the project on FCE but when I came back the first time, it told me that several clips were missing and could not reconnect to the media. When I came back a second time, now it will not recognize the camera in the log and transfer window. Anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks

I was having the same issue with a Canon HF S100. What seem to work for me was connecting the camera AFTER I opened the Log and Transfer window. Read my complete description on this thread, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9573812#9573812.

  • Spanned Clip will not log and transfer

    The editor:
    Mac Pro 10.4.11
    FCP 6.0.2.
    Quicktime Version 7.4.1 (14)
30 minutes of video shot to a P2 card on an HVX200 is unable to log and transfer. Plays fine in the browser and on camera.
    Workflow tried:
Write protect P2 and connect HVX200 to Mac via firewire.
Set scratch disk, then log and transfer (clip says spanned).
Error (red caution sign, tried retry, same error).
Tried P2CMS to ingest footage on a firewire drive, then log and transfer, same error.
    Any suggestions?

    One word for ya: Raylight.
I had the same problem. I tried P2CMS, renaming, and any trick I could think of. Raylight to the rescue. It creates a "pointer" MOV file to the actual P2 media and then you simply import the Raylighted MOV files into FCP. No data loss, and way quicker than a P2 transfer.
    Well worth the money.

  • Cant import using Log and Transfer to FCE 4.0.1 from Panasonic DMC-TZ10

Does anyone know if/how I can import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer? I use Log and Transfer with my Sony HDR XR200VE Video Camera but when I try this with the Panasonic DMC-TZ10 I can play the clips in the Log and Transfer Clip viewer however they don't import after I add them to the queue. It just gives me an ! icon and gives up.
I guess I need to know if there is a combination of camera settings and Codecs I can choose that will allow me to successfully import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer.
The settings I can choose on the DMC-TZ10 camera are the Rec Mode (Either AVCHD Lite (GPS Rec), AVCHD Lite, or Motion JPEG) and the Rec Quality SH, H or L).
iPhoto 09 and iMovie 09 will automatically import video from this camera if I choose Motion JPEG and H on the DMC-TZ10

Log and transfer only supports AVCHD. It does not support AVCHD Lite, nor will it work with Motion JPEG media. You could use third party software to convert it, or iMovie and then export a QuickTime movie from there in the correct codec and format.

  • Canon HF-10: Log and Transfer AVCHD Problem

When I try to Log and Transfer clips from my HF-10 on my Mac Pro (Intel, Dual-Quad Core) I get the following message "AVCHD media is unsupported on PowerPC based hardware." even though the machine is an intel-mac.
When I do it on my Mac Book Pro (Intel, Dual-Core) it works fine in Log and Capture.
Can someone please tell me how to correct this issue on my tower? I've followed the steps listed on this document: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7194922#7194922 and it didnt help me.
    Please help!!!!

Not until you've searched the data base on that camera with the link I provided. You probably should search this forum and the forum at http://www.creativecow.net (the FCP forum there) on your camera and on AVCHD etc. But sure sounds like a software problem... the machine seems to be sending the signal to FCP that it is a PPC and not an intel... so I'd guess that to be a software install error of some sort. But it's a guess... That's why I suggested the reinstall to rule that out or fix you up...

  • Log and transfer progressive files

    Hi,
When I try to log and transfer clips shot in progressive HD (AVCD) there is no image in the log and transfer screen - it is all green, although I can hear the sound of the clip, when I play it.
It also gets transferred, but as I can't see the clip before transferring it, I can't make in and out points.
    Very frustrating!

I believe the HMC151 is an AVCCAM and the PH mode you are shooting is not directly compatible with FCE. My understanding is that currently only FCPro can capture progressive from these cameras. There may be a workaround for FCE and perhaps Tom Wolsky will see your post here and can contribute an answer.
In the meantime, try shooting some 1080i50 in HA or HG mode and see if you can import that successfully using the AVCHD 1080i50 Easy Setup.

  • Log and Transfer Very slow

I am just curious if it always takes a VERY long time to log and transfer clips? I moved the files off of my SDHC cards and onto my hard drive. It's about 55GB of 1920x1080/60i footage. From a Sony HXR-NX5U/NX5N. And on average it will take a 5 minute clip about a half-hour to 45 minutes to transfer into FCP. Is this a normal thing?

Not normally, no. But the NXCam cameras employ yet ANOTHER flavor...non-standard flavor...of AVCHD. This makes importing slow and difficult. I had good luck with clips 5 min or less, but longer...and it would take from 2-5 hours!
The solution is to use a third party application...ClipWrap2. www.clipwrap.com
The good thing about that solution is that ClipWrap will import the timecode from the camera...because it does have timecode that it records. But FCP...AVID...they can't find it (Sony likes to hide things apparently). But ClipWrap found it.

  • Importing a lot of video clips from a Sony camera to FCE; during the Log and Transfer process, is there a way to add multiple clips to the browser instead of one at a time?

Importing a lot of video clips from a Sony camera to FCE; during the Log and Transfer process, is there a way to add multiple clips to the browser instead of one at a time?

Select one and click cmd-A which selects them all.
Then click the import button if it hasn't started already.

  • Best way to import MTS (AVCHD)/missing clips using Log and Transfer

My footage (Sony HDR 500) of an average project consists of approximately 10 hours film and 1600 clips. When I use the option Log and Transfer to import in FCE not all clips are imported in FCE. All other clips are consecutively numbered and cannot be compared with the numbering of the clips on the camera anymore. As a result it is, with those large amounts of clips, almost impossible to find out which clips are missing.
Importing takes a very long time (is that normal?) so I would like to run this proces at night, but due to this missing clips problem I am afraid to do this so it is not a good option for me. Does anyone recognize this problem?
To avoid all this I now convert all clips with Voltaic to .mov before importing. At least I know for sure that I have all clips imported, but it is so cumbersome and it takes a lot of time too. This proces I do in steps because I am afraid to start everything at once. After converting the project almost takes 120 GB.
It takes days before everything is imported and that frustrates me. If the same material is imported in Edius for example it only takes an hour (tested) so it appears to be an FCE/Apple problem. Is there any way to accelerate?
I am working with an iMac from 2010, 2,8GHz quadcore i7, 16GB intern geheugen met snow leopard.
I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks, Jacqueline

While I have not seen the exact problem you describe, 1600 clips is a lot of clips to import at once - so is 10 hours of video.
If you are using FCE to Log & Transfer directly from the camera, your clips are automatically being transcoded to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) during importing, which explains the long time it takes to ingest the clips.
Also, QT/AIC files are much, much larger than the AVCHD clips in your camera.  If you are shooting 1920x1080 video, 10 hours of AVCHD translates into roughly 450GB of QT/AIC clips.  It is possible that you may be a) running out of disk space, or b) exceeding the scratch disk minimum allowable free space set in FCE > System Settings.  If so, that could explain why not all your clips are being imported - FCE is probably stopping the Log & Transfer process when it hits the disk space limit.
Regarding alternatives, I'm not so sure about Voltaic.  The Voltaic documentation says it only supports H.264 in QT/.mov files, and that would not be usable in FCE.  Check some of those clips to see what codec they are.  I suspect they are H.264.  (Also, you referred to the converted clips taking 120GB space, which just happens to match the AVCHD storage capacity of your camera ... and AVCHD is a form of H.264 video, so they take up about the same disk space.)
In order to edit your clips in FCE, they need to be QT/AIC.  Two alternatives come to mind - Clipwrap and MPEG Streamclip.  Both can convert AVCHD video to QT/AIC, and both support batch conversion.  If it were me, I'd consider Clipwrap first, for this volume of material, since Clipwrap was specifically designed for AVCHD.
The reason importing is so much faster in Edius is that it can import & directly edit AVCHD clips; Edius basically just copies the clips from the camera to your hard drive.  FCE has to convert the clips to QT/AIC first, before you can edit the video, and that takes considerable time.

  • AVCHD Clips Showing Up Black in Log and Transfer Window

I'm doing some work for a client with some footage shot on a Sony NX5U. I'm trying to ingest the AVCHD clips into FCP 7.0.3 via the Log and Transfer window. I can pull up a list off all the clips in L&T and some of the clips work. Numerous other clips though, just show a black screen and have no audio. You cannot play the video in the preview window, although the box that shows the duration of each clip does show a time for each clip selected, so it must see something there. If I try to add any of the problem clips to the transfer queue, it tries for a few seconds to transfer the clip, then it gives the error with the red exclamation mark and stops. All the other clips transfer fine.
I'm fairly certain that the problem is something with FCP because I can load the same clips into adobe premiere without any issues. I can also watch all of the same files in VLC player, so the problem doesn't appear to be a corrupt file or anything of that sort. I've tried the same steps and had the same results with the files on a memory card and the files copied off to my hard drive. I did receive the memory card from the client and did not shoot the footage myself, so its possible that something was messed up on his end, but the file structure appears to all be in tact, as near as I can tell.
Here are a couple things I've already tried that didn't appear to help
    --Trashing the preferences to FCP
--Switching the transfer codec from Apple Pro Res to AIC
--Changing the scratch disks from an external hard-drive to the internal drive
Any suggestions anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated! I have transferred footage off this camera before with no issues, so I'm not sure why it's having problems now

we're all the files shot in the same format?  Not all formats are compatible with fcp.  If you can bring the files into premiere, you can use the adobe media encoder to convert to prores and then work with them in fcp.  The interface on the adobe media encoder is not particularly intuitive at least in CS 5.5.  I use it for this kind of thing every few months and every time I have to figure it out again.  May be early onset alzheimers, but I don't think so.

  • Can't get preview/logging window to open in Log and Transfer

Hello- Running FCP7 on Mac Duo Quad Core Nehalem, OS 10.6.
Hopefully really simple solution to this. Doing a Canon 5D workflow in FCP. So bring in via Log and Transfer. I've got the plug-in installed.
Up to this point it's been going smooth - open up log & transfer, select volume/files, everything's loaded in and up UNTIL tonight, the righthand side preview and logging windows have also opened up, and I've done my viewing and clip naming in there. But for some reason it's now opening up the just lefthand side volume browser and drag down transfer window, but NOT the righthand side. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Nick.
