Missing/Lost Songs

I recently downloaded a song onto my iPod Touch. After syncing to my computer, the song disappeared. I've searched for all mp4s on my computer and external hard drives and have searched repeatedly in my iTunes music library, but cannot find the song. I checked on Apple's web site, but they said each paid song is good for only one download, so I won't be able to download it again unless I pay for it again.
Has this happened to anyone else? Can you think of anything I can do to find it outside of searching my computer, iPod and iTunes?

If you can't locate your purchases you could try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link it'll take you to the support/contact page, from there click on Music Purchases then the Lost or Missing Items option, from there click on "Email Us": Customer Service - iTunes Store Support

  • I have lost songs from HD, and want to re-download them. iTunes won't let me as they have already been downloaded to this computer. How can I do this?

I have lost songs from my HD (iTunes shows them as missing and although the artist folder and album name are on teh HD the songs aren't)
If I go into iTunes I can see I have bought them, and previously downloaded them, but I cannot 're-download them' as Itunes thinks they are there. The download songs not on the Mac doesn't list them, and there is no option to download them again.
Any ideas I either force a new download, or resent iTunes.

Delete the entries in the iTunes library.

  • How can I download my past purchases that are not in my icloud?  Somehow I lost songs that I purchased they say that the orginal files are gone but I did not delete them

How can I download past purchases that are not in my icloud?  Somehow I lost songs it says that the orginal files can not be located.  They are still available in the store but it doesn't give me the option to download them.  I did not delete any songs or files but I am missing a lot of files

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your iPod see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Note also that if iTunes has an entry for a song, even if that entry is broken, then it won't offer that track for download since it "thinks" you already have it. If you can't find the original files or recover them from a device, then you may need to delete the broken entries, close iTunes and reopen before you can access the past purchases.

  • What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer? Will iTunes automatically updated without all the deleted songs, or it will indicate 'missing location'? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs?

What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer?
Background: I found it easier to identify duplicated songs in windows explorer as the songs will be renamed .... 1.mp3, thus enabling me to remove the duplicated songs; unlike in iTunes where I know the trick of showing duplicate songs, but you don't know which one is the one with 1 at the end of the file name.
Will iTunes automatically update the library without all the deleted songs, or will it indicate 'missing location' songs? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs by highlighting them all and delete all at one go?
    Thanks.

One way is to use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
Another option is with a set of Lost & Found playlists.
    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Ctrl-A to select them and Shift-Delete to remove them.
You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.

  • Changed computers, lost songs.

A while back I got a new computer. During the process of transferring itunes, several songs (both purchased and loaded from CD's) were lost. Seemed to be random? Recently my new computer crashed. I had the info backed up on and HD External HardDisk. Since recovering, I have again lost songs. Trying to Sync my ipod for the first time since this recovery, I'm getting a message that essentially says there are songs on my ipod that are not in my itunes and if I sync, I will lose them. Is there any to NOT lose these songs? I see a couple different itunes files in my computer but I don't know how to open them or see if they have the songs that are not missing. Any suggestions? Thank you

Pressing "Yes" when iTunes brings up the dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in this iTunes does exactly what it says. If you link to an iTunes with only a few or completely different songs it will erased your original iPod song list. There are some data recovery programs on the market. I've no personal experience of them so I can't say how effective they are, here's an example: iPod Data Recovery</a
None of the recovery programs are particularly cheap so you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you will have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.

  • I have lost most of my i tunes library.  Many of the lost songs are are my ipod.  What happens if I load plug my ipod into the computer?  Will I erase whats on the ipod because there'll be no match found on my itunes library.  Or..will I be allowed to mov

I have lost my i tunes library.  Many of my lost songs are on my two nano i pods.
Since I have lost my i tunes library I have re-installed most songs.  However I have a large number of songs on my i pods which I would like to retrieve.  If I try to load my i pods to my computer will I lose the songs which I could not get re-installed to my library but are on the i pods.  Since I lost my library I have not re-introduced my i pods for updating since they too will likely have to be re-installed.  Will I lose the songs already in the i pods if have to re-introduce them to my computer.  A solution to this problem would be for me to transfer my lost library songs from the i pod to my library.  Can this be done?
    1)  Is it possible to retrieve songs from a lost i tunes library?  Withoutout re-loading the entire library (since I have done this manually).
    2)  What happens if I re-introduce my i pods to the computer?  Will this cause me to lose the present i pod installed music?
    3)  Can I transfer my lost songs and albums from my i pods to the i tunes library?

As you will have discovered, the music sync is only one way, from iTunes to the iPod, minus iTunes purchases.  On top of that, an iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.

  • Lost Song Info

    OK, here's my situation:
I have Windows XP. I realised that no album artwork was showing on my iPod nano, even though it was on iTunes (most up-to-date version). This was because the error with the "Chkdsk" thing kept appearing. After I ran that, nothing changed, but after I'd changed some setting somwhere, I thought I'd fixed the problem. But I had to stop partway through the operation so only some of it came up on the iPod.
However, when I went back to it, I somehow accidentally deleted all song info (artist, album, album artwork etc) and now all that appears on both the iPod and iTunes is the song title. This is the case in "iPod", "Purchased" and "Library" sections. Nor is it on my hard drive.
Is there an easy way to retrieve all lost song info quickly and easily?

How many songs are you talking about? You can enter the information yourself for each one if you're up to it. Right click on the song file, then choose get info. On the second tab "info" where everything is probably showing up unknown, you can type in the information. I'm sorry I really don't know of another way to do this if the program can't ID the song to search the internet for details.
Are these whole albums or individual songs? If they're albums, you could burn them to a CD and then rip them into Windows Media Player. You'll get an option to search for the album info. online before you rip the CD. You can enter the artist or album name and let Windows Media Player find the correct song details, then Windows Media Player will enter the info into all of the columns for you. Once you have these albums ripped in Media Player, you can re-import them into iTunes and the tags will be there. (Just make sure you rip using mp3 so you don't have to go through a conversion process to bring them into iTunes.) Album art doesn't transfer from Windows Media Player to iTunes. You'll have to hand add this.
I don't rip in iTunes so I don't know how the program tags unknown albums. If iTunes can search for and add tag information to unknown albums--skip the Windows Media Player step and just re-rip everything in iTunes.

  • My iphone is missing (lost) and dead and it cannot be located because it is offline.  Is there anyway to get it online remotely?

My iphone is missing (lost) and dead (no battery life and needs to be rechaged)  We are in the process of moving but I am terrified and canot locate through icloud as it is saying it is offline.
Is there any way at all that i can access it remotely and change the offline to "online" only for a few seconds even so that it can become online again, long enough to play the music that i can find it.
Thank you for your time and consideration in answering my question

Tricia453 - I can understand you really want to find your lost iPhone.  But, this is your third post today asking the exact same question.  I'm sorry, but the answer is not going to change no matter how many times you re-post it.
Without the phone being powered on, and connected to a wifi or a cellular data connection there is no way to track it remotely or do anything at all remotely to it.  Remote commands and remote tracking require a data connection, which requires your phone be powered on.  There is nothing you can do to find it remotely, nothing at all.

  • Purchased album, but missing one song

I recently bought an album, Gym Class Heroes - The Papercut Chronicles and it is missing one song. On iTunes, there is only 17 songs, but on the actual album, there is 18. I looked on their site and also my friend has the album. What can I do do get the full album? I tried emailing Apple but I'd like to see if somebody here could help me. Also has anybody else dealt with this situation before?
    Thanks.

I'd suggest you contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them. They should at least mark it as a partial album, and of course get the track titles sorted (they may have come that way from the record company).

  • Iphone 2.0 upgrade = lost songs

I lost songs during my 2.0 update. The songs were only on the phone. Is there anyway to recover these songs?

When I was updating the software on my iphone, I thought I saw a notice that the iphone was being backed up before the software downloaded. Was I hallucinating? Wouldn't that mean that whatever you had on the phone to begin with would be put back after the software download? Anyway, my iphone is ok, my daughter's isn't. She bought music from itunes, not on the computer but on her iphone and she lost those songs during the update. They're not in her library on the computer and not on her phone. Any suggestions? I told her to call Apple and maybe they'd let her redownload.

  • Had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, new iPhoto etc. just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No rosetta and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

I had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, snow leopard and mountain lion,  just to connect my new iPhone 5 and somewhere between uploading iPhone 4S pics to iCloud some important pics disappeared then installed new iTunes and purchased new iPhoto all  just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No Rosetta to make apps work but its not as simple as upgrading apps and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

File a complaint with Apple for not giving adequate warning before upgrading OS X that it would render PPC programs dead.
That someone at Apple said requiring the iPhone 5 to have 10.8 (10.6.8 is the minimum actually) and in order to remain a loyal Apple customer they need to fix this mess and revert your machine and software back to 10.6.8
You see, 10.6.8 would have ran your iPhone 5 and ran your PPC based software, so whoever told you to upgrade to 10.8 was wrong and they need to fix your machine.
It can be reverted to 10.6.8 yourself.
