Missing MDAC components after uninstalling acrobat 8

Well I have now been working on this mess I created for 9 hours. I uninstalled Acrobat 8.0 Pro that came on my Gateway Computer. All I wanted to do originally was to create a pdf file from a microsoft word file. Acrobat 8 never did do that as I always got error messages. So I purchased a separate software to do just that (create pdf files). Unfortunately the software would not install without first removing A8. Removing A8 made a mess. I tried using Windows xp restore to get back to my computer from yesterday. This did not work. After system restore, A8 tries to reinstall, but I get an error message that install files can't be found.
Finally I got the new software to install (Nitro Pro). It works fine and I now can turn my word docs into pdf files!! My problem is that every time I open Microsoft Office Access or Excel, A8 tries to install. If I let the install go, eventually I get error message that install files can't be found. If I cancel install of A8, Access and Excel files will open. It's a pain having to cancel A8 install to get these files to open.
I persume that the reason A8 tries to install is because it is associated with my Access and Excel software. When they are opened, there are Acrobat 8 toolbars on them.
How do I get A8 to no longer be associated with Microsoft Access and Excel?
I just want A8 off my computer or at least no longer opening or trying to install. Thanks for any suggestions and help!
I am using:
Gateway Computer, 3 gig ram, 600 gig harddrive
Windows XP SP2
Microsoft Office 2003
Used to have Acrobat 8.0
Acrobat Reader 5.0 (which I wouldn't mind getting off my computer)

I removed Acrobat 8 with the uninstaller REVO. I do not know what happened. I had purchased Acrobat 9. When I went to install it, error message "must remove Acrobat 8 first". Since I already had and didn't know what to do, I used Windows XP restore to restore my computer to before uninstalling Acrobat 8. Unfortunately, this restored my system except for Acrobat 8. Whenever I tried to open Microsoft Word, Access, or Excel, Acrobat 8 would try and install, but I get error message that install files are absent. I finally got Acrobat 8 to not try and install when I opened Word (by removing Acrobat buttons on menu). Unfortunately, I am unable to remove Acrobat buttons on Access and/or Excel. So every time I open them, Acrobat tries to install. I just want it off my computer. Canceling install does allow Access and Excel to open, but I dislike this extra step to open them.

  • Problems after uninstalling Acrobat 10

I recently installed and then uninstalled a trial version of  Acrobat 10.  Now when I try to make a pdf in Acrobat 9, I get an error message that the distiller cannot find a file in an Acrobat 10 folder (which has been deleted).  How can I get the distiller in 9 to work again.  I already tried uninstalling and re-installing it, as well as running it in repair mode.  Nothing seems to work.

Sorry to hear about the trouble.  We've heard some reports of similar issues with files not opening after the 11.0.01/10.1.5/9.5.3 updates were installed.  I would suggest uninstalling Acrobat, the reinstalling and patching up to 10.1.4 again as an immediate solution.
To help us figure out what may be going with your particular files, could you open one in Acrobat and choose File > Properties.  I'd like to know what it says next to the PDFProducer and Application lines.

  • KPDF does not open PDF's after uninstalling Acrobat Readar 8.1

Hi. I have recently uninstalled Acrobat Reader 8.1 (Spanish version).
    I use Mandriva 2008, with KDE 3.5.7
After uninstall (using urpme), KPDF does no longer open PDF files.
I have tried to re-install Reader, and KPDF works perfectly. But then, when uninstalling again... KPDF again broken.
File association is OK. Could you please help me?
    thanks

    Hello DAG,
we have the same problem updating from Adobe Reader 8 to Reader 9.
Enclosed you will find our solution on Debian Etch systems, if it still effects you:
    1. Install Adobe Reader 9 and xdg-utils
    2. PATH="/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin:$PATH" /usr/bin/xdg-mime install --novendor "/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Resource/Support/AdobeReader.xml" (maybe you have to change the path to your installation directory)
    Best regards,

  • I can't read PDF fils in Safari after uninstalling Acrobat Reader

A grey screen opens. How can I reset that so I can open PDF files in Safari?

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • When reverting to purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro point product, after uninstalling Creative Cloud Desktop (and CC-based Acrobat XI Pro), how do I eliminate request to renew my subscription?

Creative Cloud just wasn't working for me, so after several years of frustration with being abroad and not online when the program decided to require online verification, I'm ditching Creative Cloud and reverting to the purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro point product. However, after uninstalling Creative Cloud Desktop (and CC-based Acrobat XI Pro), it still wants to go online and check my CC subscription, disallowing use of the newly installed point product version from a several year-old ESD file (and the more recent AcrobatUpd11010.dmg file).
Anyone have an idea of how to eliminate request to renew my subscription?
If, as a journalist, I've have these issues over the past two years, including this final insult when I'm trying to get away from CC, it can't be a one-off problem. So I'd like to hear details about others who've had a similar issue with reverting from CC back to a point product or to CS.
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Acrobat trying to open pdf's in Safari even after uninstalled.

A lot of people have had this problem that after an Acrobat update, safari now opens pdfs with Acrobat (a bit obnoxious of them), which is slower and clunkier than Preview.
Many have written that clicking "get info"on a pdf, and "open with preview" plus "apply to all" fixes this problem. It does not.
I uninstalled Acrobat. Now Safari doesn't do anything with pdfs at all. It just opens a grey page.
How do I convince Safari to open pdf's with Preview again? I'm using mavericks.

Single-click a random PDF file. Press command+I (eye). This will pop a Get Info window over the top of Safari if it is open.
Just below the Comments section, you will see Open with: and Preview is selected. Click this selection, and instead, choose Adobe Reader. Below that is a Change All... button. Clicking on this will produce the following dialog:
Select Continue and Acrobat Reader will now be the default application that opens PDF files. If you later change your mind, follow these steps and reselect Preview.

  • How do I uninstall Acrobat Pro XI after the trial period has elapsed?

Buying is not an option for the moment (company processes to follow first - could take weeks!!) and the "readme" files give instructions that cannot be followed because there is no menu available now that the trial period has expired. Right now, I cannot open pdf files at all, even though I still have the free Acrobat Reader software installed.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It seems to me that Adobe Reader is not set as the default to handle pdf's but Acrobat is, and hence after the trial expired you are not able to view the pdf's.
Please follow the steps below to change the default program for viewing pdf's
    Launch Acrobat / Reader.
Click on the 'Edit' button in the toolbar, and then select 'Preferences'
A new window would come up. On the left column, higlight the 'General' Tab and on the right hand side at the bottom there's a button called 'Select Default PDF Handler'
Click the button and select 'Adobe Reader' as the default for PDF's.Click on 'Ok' now to save the changes.
Alternatively, you can simply right click on any pdf file and then select 'Open With..' > 'Choose Default Program' and select 'Adobe Reader' from the list of programs.
Make sure the option at the bottom is checked that says ' Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
Click on 'Ok' now to save the changes.
To uninstall Acrobat you can simply uninstall it from the Control Panel > Programs or use the Acrobat cleaner tool : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

  • Missing iMovie components & Apps after Archive & Install

I recently did an archive & reinstall. Opening iMovie for the first time after it gave me the following error:
"Missing Quicktime Components: The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install."
iMovie still opened but I didn't want to entrust it with importing files. So I went here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imovie712.html and downloaded the latest iMovie and tried to install it. But I got this error:
"Alert: An eligible iMovie application was not found in the location /Applications."
Huh, that's weird. So I looked in my Applications folder and not only is iMovie not there, but neither is iPhoto, or iDVD!
I suppose I could bring them back with the versions in my Time Machine prior to the archive and reinstall, but would they come whole? Would it be better to reinstall these from the Installation DVD's? WHo knows what else is missing? Guess that is what I get for using the Leopard Installation DVD I got for my G5, rather than using the disks that came with this MacBook Pro.
    Any advice?

"Missing Quicktime Components: The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install."
The modal message is telling you that some of the components used by iMovie for import/editing are missing and that the easiest way to re-install them is to re-run the iLife '08 (or more specifically the iMovie '08) installer package. For instance, Imovie '08 installs a special MPEG-2 component that converts normal MPEG-2 content from a DVD or HDD camcorder to all I-frame MPEG-2 content (the equivalent of Motion-JPEG video) which can be edited in iMovie '08. The component also allows you to view such MOV files in the QT Player others others without iLife '08 installed would not be able to view them.
iMovie still opened but I didn't want to entrust it with importing files. So I went here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imovie712.html and downloaded the latest iMovie and tried to install it. But I got this error: "Alert: An eligible iMovie application was not found in the location /Applications."
Re-install from your original installation disks. This area is for upgrading earlier versions of iMovie '08. If you are already running v7.1.4, the the software on this page will not allow you to "upgrade" your software since it is looking for specific older versions. Besides, these upgrades may assume the additional components are already install not may not even bother to check for them.
Would it be better to reinstall these from the Installation DVD's?
    Yes.

  • Acrobat XI Pro - can't re-install/download after uninstalling due to login problem

I have had CS6 via Creative Cloud for a few months now and the last couple of days when I've opened Acrobat XI Pro it says it's installed on another machine and I need to log in. I log in and it says it's a mis-matched ID, even though it's not.
This is a work computer/licence and is only installed on this machine under my name. We thought it may be confused because we've got a few licences and there was a big confusion and muck up with Adobe when we first ordered and downloaded, and my boss is using his on his work and home computers. So I uninstalled Acrobat and thought I would be able to just go to the Application Manager and download/install again, but it's not available to download, I guess it thinks I've already got it. Can't do it via https://creative.adobe.com/apps either.
I have no problems like this with the other programs; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
How can I get Acrobat again?
    Thanks

A restore won't get rid of the problem!!! **** crappy ****.
Is there anyway to send this question too Apple? Or do i have to spend the next hours on the phone with Apple Support?!

  • Uninstall acrobat x after installing xl

Apparently the “Compete / Full” install of Acrobat Xl did not remove Acrobat X. Now that I have my Acrobat Xl installed, the complete version, can I uninstall Acrobat X to save some space on the hard drive?  I running 64 bit OS Windows 7 Professional.

Interesting; when I upgraded to Acrobat XI on my Windows 7, Acrobat X was completely uninstalled.
Does Acrobat X still show in your Programs & Features?  If so, I think it's safe to uninstall, as the two versions are in different program folders.
