Missing metadata - aperture....

All of my recent imports into Aperture (3.4.3 & OS 10.8.2) are all missing the EXIF metadata - Date, Aperture, Shuter Speed, Exposure, Focal Point, Lens, etc.  Before upgrading to 3.4.3 it at least displayed decimal values for Shutter Speed and Aperture - althrough it was a bit quirky.  My older projects are all displaying properly.  Anyone have an idea what is going on?
Thanks,
-Sean-

Are all of these imports coming from the same camera? Which model? Do you import JPEGs or RAW files? What happens when you try to import images with metadata from other sources?

  • Missing Metadata in Web Gallery images exported from Aperture.

Images that I export directly to my .mac web gallery from aperture do not show any meta data on their info pages. In aperture the images have all meta data.
I have checked all the presets and all include metadata. There is no specific preset for web gallery I notice.
    Has anyone else solved this?

I want to change all the metatdata in groups to copywrighted. I can not seem to do this. There could be a checkbox on or off when importing. This would be perfect for bringing in older copywrighted archives.

  • Indesign export of PDFs - images in pdf fragmented, missing metadata

Can anyone help with this one?
We use InDesign CS3 to create PDF 1.6's, directly from InDesign export. The metadata contained in the images on the layout normally are visible in the PDF when you control click and select "show metadata" on the image with Acrobat's touch up object tools. Ocassionally, there is an unknown problem in the process where a given image will "fragment" -- when you click on it in the PDF, a frame surrounds only part of the image, and there's no "show metadata" choice to select. This is kiling us because we doconstruct those PDFs and put them into our long term archive, and the metadata is missing there!
Anyone know of any reason InDesign export would give such results?
    Any help would be appreicated!
    Thanks.

    Thanks Bob,
We're just reviewing detailed data now, so it's unclear whether we have any cases where it's a placed PDF (most are tiffs, psds, etc). Good point - if the pdf within is a 1.3 that would be a problem. . .same too with a placed ID file, though I know for sure we're not doing that. I'll post what we find.
We are ok with regard to version patches. But, Bob, do you by chance know of any specific bugfixes (i haven't read the release notes) that address this? that would help to know too, so as to rule out some times in the past before the patch was applied where the problem occured.
Meanwhile David W. Goodrich's reminder of adobe technote 332920 if i read it right, suggests non raster images would fail to pass metadta, at least in CS2, i wonder if that applies to cs3 too. . .

  • Missing metadata after saving in LR 1.3 (Windows)

I have touched this subject before in other threads, but I have never got around to do a proper test in 1.3 and someone asked for proof before, so here is the proof.
What I did was shot a JPG with my Canon 1D Mk II and then add some IPTC tags using a IPTC tagger program. I then opened the image in LR, added a keyword and saved it using ctrl-S.
What I found is that some EXIF information is missing from the saved file, but from what I found it seems to be just EXIF information that is moved to XMP. I find it strange that not all EXIF fields are moved to XMP, but it's not a big deal.
But worse is IPTC information that was in the file is also missing and not converted to XMP. In the ExifTool that I used to create the linked files, the ID of the missing IPTC fields are 76 (Contact), 1b (Content location name), 0c (Subject reference), 0a (Urgency) and 07 (Edit status).
Metadata as directly from camera: http://www.svartsinn.net/test/LR/NY7Y1043-fromcamera.txt"
    Metadata after tagging IPTC: http://www.svartsinn.net/test/LR/NY7Y1043-Memoria.txt
Metadata after tagging IPTC then saving from LR: http://www.svartsinn.net/test/LR/NY7Y1043-Memoria-LR13.txt
I can accept that LR can not show and edit all types of metadata, but I find it difficult to accept that data is removed from image files.

Sorry to bump this, but are there anyone here who have experienced the same?

  • Missing Metadata Presets when importing sample library following book

ISSUE: NO METADATA PRESETS available during import. (Aperture 3)
    DESCRIPTION:
I have just installed Aperture 3. I am following the Aperture 3 book. When importing the sample Wyoming pictures into the Sample Library , I am directed to choose "basic info" as my metadata preset. I am not able to select "basic info" as a metadata preset. The drop down arrow only yields "none" and "edit". Edit is all grayed out.
I then tried it in the Main/real Aperture 3 library. I tried to import a few pictures from a a hard drive. Same issue. NO METADATA PRESETS AVAILABLE FOR IMPORTING INTO APERTURE 3.
    Thank youl

Here is the answer for anyone who may hae same problem:
Delete the following files from Application (Aperture) /Support :
    1: import Presets.plist
    2:MetadataSets.plist
    3:Metadata Presets.plist.
Removing these has restored the basic metadata presets.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks

  • Missing metadata after slideshow export

I love to show some metadata - like a description - within exportet JPGs. That way they are visible on any device used to present the pictures. As far as I found out this is only possible by doing a slideshow export (watermarks unfortunately can not pull information out of the metadata fields). But all the exported JPGs are missing all metadata, so I can not even sort them automatically later in other software solutions.
Any idea how I could both show the description field within/under the picture and do not loose all metadata information within the exported files?

    Sorry, I misunderstood.
Looks like you cannot have both metadata in EXIF and metadata as text overlays on the image, without using a third-party plugin.

  • Images retouched in Photoshop are missing from Aperture browser

Hi! I'm new here! I'm panicked because: my hard drive died (power outage), I replaced the hard drive, I restored my Time Machine backup, and it did not restore all my images; in each of the 5 most recent project folders, the only images missing are the ones that were retouched in Photoshop and brought back into Aperture (the "finals"). The browser displays these stacks with the master on the left, and a white dotted-line outline with nothing in it where the retouched image used to be. When I double click on the empty image, I get the notorious dark red field with "Unsupported Image Format" in the main viewer area. (This used to happen occasionally and was solved by quitting Aperture and restarting, but doesn't correct this problem.) I am using Aperture 2.1.4. An Apple tech instructed me to do a "restore library", and this process eliminated the white outline so that now there is no indication that any files are missing at all. But two weeks of hard earned work is lost. I never used the vault but Time Machine should have done a thorough backup, no? Any thoughts? Suggestions?

The raw fine tuning controls are camera specific. For some sensors not all controls are available, see this document:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7481
Note:   Some controls in the RAW Fine Tuning area of the Adjustments inspector and the Adjustments pane of the Inspector HUD appear dimmed if these settings are not available for use with images derived from a particular RAW file format. Some camera models can create multiple types of RAW file formats, and different controls may be available for each of these RAW file formats.
Using these controls, you can fine-tune your RAW decoding settings on an image-by-image basis. Aperture also enables you to save your customized RAW decoding settings as effects or as the default settings always used with a specific camera, so they are easily applied to newly imported images. For more information about saving your custom RAW Fine Tuning settings as the default for a specific camera, see Setting the Camera Default.
If the RAW Fine Tuning controls do not appear, the selected photo is from a previous version of Aperture. You must first reprocess the image using the most current RAW image processing. For more information, see An Overview of Reprocessing Photos.
For example, I am seeing all Raw Fne uning controls for my dng-files from the Lumix FZ28, but not for the Canon EOS 5D Mk II:

  • IPhoto library-file deleted - and originals missing in Aperture....

Just moved my Aperture-library to my new iMac. Unfortunately almost all pics came from my old iPhoto-library which is gone now.
I can't do anything but look at the pictures. Can't edit, export, share etc.
When trying to e.g. export a file Aperture says 'The selected original image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.'.
Don't ask about the backup from Time Machine - that too is gone...
    Now what?
    Thanks.
    Thomas

How did you import your old iPhoto photos? And with what Aperture version?
Before the unified Aperture - iPhoto library has been introduced, it was possible to import an iPhoto library as referenced. This left all originals in the iPhoto library, so iPhoto continued to work, but Aperture could use the master files. Is that the way you imported your iPhoto library, with the master files in there original location?
When trying to e.g. export a file Aperture says 'The selected original image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.'.
That is the typical error message, when Aperture cannot access the original files. And Aperture wil not be able to do anything with your images, unless you restore the missing originals.
Just moved my Aperture-library to my new iMac.
Where did you move your Aperture library from ? From an older mac?  From a backup?
Did Aperture work on that old Mac and could access the originals?
Do you still have that old mac, and is there any chance that recovery software could retrieve the missing original files on that mac?
Sometimes Aperture reports originals as missing, even if they are managed inside the Aperture library.
You can find out, where Aperture is looking for the original files, if you select some image files in the browser and use Aperture's command "File > Locate Referenced Files".
In the panel that opens, you can see the path to missing files in the upper right corner below the thumbnail.
What do you see, when you use that command?

  • Missing metadata entry

Not sure if this is a Bridge or a Camera Raw issue ...
In Bridge, the Metadata panel will display---among other things---the Camera Raw settings for raw files that have been processed in ACR. But one setting is missing there: the value of the Clarity parameter. This applies to Bridge 2.1.1.9 for Windows in conjunction with all ACR versions, including 4.5 Beta.

I have same problem. Solved with unpack and plasmapkg -i, but it's not solution.
    Any know about reason?
Why topic marked as "Solved"? Workgorund is not solution.

  • Fonts Missing in Aperture 3.3

I got Aperture 3.3 and started using Faces, but the font in faces is small and not what it looks like on the website picture. Help

Did the Basic Trouble-shooting. help, that Kirby Krieger pointed to? If not, check if you see the correct fonts when launching Aperture from a different accout. Create a new Library and add an image with a face.
What does it look like? Does it show the correct fonts?
If the font again is wrong, then you have a system wide trouble. Check if the fonts in your system Library are properly installed.
On my faces cork board the captions seem to be using the font "Noteworthy". Check if this Font is installed in your System Library - look at the Folder:
Your Macintosh HD > Library > Fonts
if you can see a file named "Noteworthy.ttc"
If it is missing, reinstall it from your backup or reinstall the system.
If Aperture works o.k. from a different user account, then your account settings may be faulty.
Unless Kirby has a different suggestion, and you have not tried it already, remove the user üpreferences, as decribed in the "Basic Trouble-shootings".
    Good Luck

  • Using iTunes Match to find missing metadata

Hello. I'm trying to get my music collection in order. My priorities are adding missing album art, genres and years. After hunting around for software to accomplish this, I'm starting to wonder if iTunes Match might do it for me.
I think I have a fairly good understanding of what iTunes Match does but I'm hoping someone here can clarify one thing for me: If one of my tracks is matched to iTunes Match, I delete the local file from my hard drive and re-download it from the cloud, will it re-download the file and metadata as I held it or as iTunes holds it? Say the version I deleted from my hard drive didn't have a Year, would the Year be added when I redownloaded it from the cloud?
I'm thinking I could fix (pretty much) my entire library by matching it to iTunes Match, deleting the local files which have missing information and redownloading them all. Will that work?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I'm afraid that iTunes Match will not do what you want it to do. Match uses the sound footprint to achieve a match or not. It does not alter metadata nor does it add missing data. However, it is likely that it will add album art - this is something that iTunes does anyway.

  • Missing Metadata Nikon D90

I've found certain data which is present on my camera picture info is not present in any of Apertures metadata info. Specifically flash info from a remote source. Is there anyway to access this info in Aperture.
    Thanks,
    BobM

Thanks Shylock but I do find very basic info such as the flash was used, but no info about my sb 800 speedlight. The in camera info tells me for instance the my group M flash is set on manual and 1/80 and my group A flash is set on manual and 1/4 power. I can't find this info in Aperture. And really not much about the flash except that it was used. The info seems to be there but Aperture is not seeing it.
Actually I get more useful info about the flash in Preview's inspector window. The info may be present in Aperture and I just can't find it.

  • Missing metadata categories

In my CS3 metadata there is no camera aperture nor camera model, and this is not because they are not checked in the metadata preferences. they are not there. Why would these important things be not listed when the camera records the data.

If this is a new model camera make sure you have all the latest updates. Every camera has its own way of recording data and Bridge needs the proper conversion software to read it. Sounds like this is the problem.
In ACR there is a list of cameras supported.

  • Save Metadata = Aperture crashed!!

    Hello,
I have the German localized version of Aperture 2.1.2 running. But it crashes almost reproduceable.
i have again the problem with the metadata, when i try to save a Metadata (caption).
I tried to paste a caption from the list in another picture, BUT Aperture crashes. After restart Aperture, i can´t see the saved caption on the list. But it is visible, when i try to reorganize/rename the saved caption list...
This problem was first solved with Aperture 2.01. But it is back after the latest updates
It is very strange. Has anyone the same problem? Or an answer?
    Best wishes

Yes.  See this very forum for 50 threads on it, that explain the solution.

  • Missing Metadata from Lightroom Gallery Jpegs

I have been making some Lightroom web galleries using standard templates that are included in LR. However when I examine or remove the large jpegs it seems that my metadata has been stripped out by the process. I'm looking at the large photo in Photoshop CS3 by going to File>File Information. None of the keywords or copyright information is present.
The metadata displays correctly in the Library area within Lighroom.
    I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8

Thanks for the suggestion Sean, I'll give that a try. I'll also run a test by simply trashing the old sidecar files. That may be the path of least resistance.
I hate to go back to Bridge especially after spending the last year using Photo Mechanic, which I still use in my assignment workflow. For editing, ranking and renaming it's head and shoulders above Bridge but it's weakness is that it can't make customized web galleries and it's not a RAW converter either. It does make galleries but they lack even the most basic HTML customizable features without serious coding. That said, Photo Mechanic's ability to embed metadata is fantastic. You can even embed the unique file name of each image as a keyword. If you've ever been handed back one of your own images by a client after they remove the file name and spent time searching for it you'll begin to appreciate being able to go to the metadata and just get the file name in the keyword field.
I'm using Lightroom only to make web galleries for my stock site and it's very important to me that copyright info gets embedded into each image. Keywords would be helpful too but that's not a deal breaker.
So far Lightroom has been fantastic as a batch processing tool but I'm amazed at how difficult it is with metadata. If metadata can't reliably be entered and saved in files then what good is it? The thing that bothers me the most is that it looks as if it's totally stripped out in the gallery process which is unspeakably awful.
I hope that the answer is that I'm doing something wrong in my processing and that it's easily fixable.
