Missing Minimize Button (Greyed out, anyway)

Lately, I've noticed that many times my mail application's yellow "minimize" button is greyed out. The way I can minimize the application is with the apple=H (Hide) command. Then, later on, when I bring the application back on screen, there is the yellow minimize button.
I put this post in the mail thread, because that was the only application so affected. But this is not really true, any longer. I do notice it, but far less frequently, on iChat and Skype too.
Anyone know the causes and cures of this? Not really the biggest deal in the world, but it is an annoyance.
Kenny

I also experience this on many different applications, from Safari, to Mail, to Adium. It is indeed very frustrating and is always solved by quitting and re-opening the application.
I (and many of my friends) have had this occur in all different point releases of Tiger and I'm also seeing it in Leopard 10.5.1

  • Submit Button Greyed Out (v 4.0.5)

I have been using Compressor successfully for about a year.  Recently it updated to v4.0.5.   Now I am not able to submit, with the final Submit button greyed out.  I have checked my Destination folder permissions and all appear correct.
What could be the cause of this, and what shall I do?  I need to render a program urgently for broadcast.
    Thanks
    Geoff

    I just resolved a similar problem.  I am running OSX 10.6.8 on a MBP 13" 2010.
Once inside Compressor I'd click on "submit" and the drop down window would show "none" next to "Cluster:" and the submit button was greyed out.
I called Apple Care and they had me delete the preference file "com.apple.Compressor.plist" file from my user>library>preferences folder.  This did not fix the problem on its own.
They then had me delete the Apple Qmaster folder from user>library>application support.  This did not fix the problem on it's own.
I then reinstalled the Compressor application itself.  This did not fix the problem on its own.
I then verified permissions and repaired permissions using disk utility.  This did not fix the problem on it's own.
I then clicked on "Share Monitor" which is found on the Compressor task bar.  "This Computer" was displayed in the left column.  I simply clicked on it in order to high light it.  I left the "Share Monitor" window open and went back to the submit panel and "This Computer" was now displayed next to "Cluster:" and the program is now working again.
    YMMV.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
This action will delete any custom Mail stationery that you have created. If you want to preserve it, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Agent email help - buttons greyed out at one location

The setup:  Two call centers.  One in NC and one in CA.
The one in NC, which is where the call center servers are, has no issues with email buttons becoming active.
The one in CA, every morning when the agents login the email buttons will not become active unless the users do the following workaround
    Start agent.
Run and IE url that was given to me by Cisco.  http://<ipaddress of ccx server/EemUi/index.jsp?port=59015
This will force Java to start and have the java icon appear in the system tray.
    Email buttons become active
Close IE window (which make email buttons grey out again)
    close and restart agent
    Email buttons work.
I only have this issue in the CA office.
I had them ship a desktop to me in the NC office.  I connected it and did NOT have an issue.  Everything works perfectly here.
Is the issue tied to the distance?  Is there some java time out setting I can tweek to make this work.
I didn't have this problem with 8.5 su 2.... it happened after the update to su 3
Anyone seen this?  Cisco has no answer.

I bounced this around the office to get some ideas.  One question - how long is the CA office waiting for the email buttons to become active?  That is, setting the workaround aside, if they wait long enough, do the Agent E-Mail buttons ever become active?    The thinking is that could be a factor as the entire applet is around 40 MB. If connection speed isn't great it could take a while to download which would explain the scenario.

  • Put, Get , Connection buttons greyed out

    Hi All,
I am pretty new to Dreamweaver but not to web development. I
have set up and connected a few sites from my own PC. It all goes
just like it says in the manuals.
But I got called into a client site who have an existing site
set up in Dreamweaver. The DW person left and the current person
wanted some coaching. Well the Code, Split, Design views all came
up and we could edit just fine.
But over on the right, above the list of files, all the
buttons (put, get, connection etc.) were greyed out. At first I
assumed the FTP connection was not set up, but it was, because when
we saved files, they saved straight to the live site.
So I went over to look at Site / Manage Sites. The FTP
connection was listed, but many of the other options (all the
categories within Advanced) did not seem to be available. They were
not just grayed out - I could not even see the list of them.
I have been fiddling around at home on my own sites, trying
to figure out how to recreate this and I can't. I can figure out
how to put myself onto live updating (update to remote FTP on Save)
but I don't get the other buttons greyed out just because I am
    working like this.
Any ideas? I'd like to be able to go back there, take them
off live updates and restore the buttons.
    Thanks
    Abigail

Unless one is working in ColdFusion, or has special
    requirements, the FTP &
RDS server option should never be used.

  • Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out

Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out.  I have downloaded and installed Itunes 11 (multiple times) and restored my phone twice already, but I am still not able to sync my Iphone 4 with Itunes.
When I select / de-select Apps on Itunes to remove from the phone the "Apply" button does appear, but after I click it nothing happens.  Then the greyed out "sync" button just appears again.
    Anyone with some advise please?

Try Restarting or Resetting your touch.
Restart: Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears and turn off your iPod. Press the sleep/wake button and hold it until you see the Apple icon.
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time. The red slider will appear first, keep hold everything until you see the Apple icon. Release the buttons.
Check your iPod and see if your music and apps have reappeared. If they do after either option, then resync your iPod.
If neither works, then Restore your touch through iTunes.

  • My wifi button greyed out...pls help

hi all users,,,my iPhine 4s wifi button greyed out suddenly
tried the temperature trick but problem persists
    pls help anyone
    thanks

Try the suggestions here to see if they resolve your problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
If these don't work you probably have a hardware problem. Visit an Apple store for an evaluation or contact Apple Support.

well, you know how it is - glitches that usually resolve with a hard reset etc
then a restore. then a factory restore....then ..... nothing fixes so I try the next step with apple online - fill out my serial number and find it is a couple of weeks out of date - and then with the holidays who has time to get to the apple store? this is my second 4s handset as it is - first one the glass cracked from L to R without any impact/damage etc - they changed it out automatically because it's a 'known fault' apparently - so technically, this handset is only 6 months old - but warranty is from original purchase date -
never imagined it would turn out to be a warranty issue with the phone - and hey maybe when I get a chance to go to the apple store they'll be sympathetic, but I won't be able to get there till at least Jan 4th as it is. On the other hand, another iOS update might resolve the issue - but how long till that release? at the moment I'm having to use my old 3gs for wifi and 4s for phone!!!

  • Video content missing on ipad... play buttons greyed out

There was a similar thread but answer did not apply.  I have videos that are fromatted to play on ipad and play in itunes well.  When sync to ipad you can see the ipad increase in file size from the added video.  When you open the video app to view the videos all is seen is greyed out video image with title underneath.   click on that image,  and the play button is greyed out.   Even though the running time appears,  the file size is 0.  I know the content is on the ipad because it shows the space being used by those files.  Where are they?   i look in the music app, no luck.
I did plug in the ipad to computer  and view the files that way (in left hand side of itunes where you view files on devices )  and those particular video files are greyed out there as well.   Please help.  So frustrating trying to find an answer.
I have tried deleting the files from ipad and resyncing did not work.  Thanks

    Update:
After further inspection: it seams the  video contnet is not being transferred but only the video file image and title.  Discovered this after unplugging and repluggin and saw the file size in ipad decrease because there were no video files.  Thanks  for you help
    Still need a solution.  Thanks

  • Motion 5 Share/Export Buttons Greyed out

Hi, just got Motion 5 on it's own for a project we're doing in FCP7 and for some reason all the "next" or "share" buttons in the export menus are greyed out or disabled. We've messed with a lot of settings but to no avail.
Is there something I'm missing here? There's nothing written on the Motion product page about requiring Compressor or FCP-X to export and I haven't found anyone else online with this issue.

So there's nothing I can do to get this fundamental part of the software working? It's pretty stupid if it can't save.
The only option I have to take this higher is to get Apple Care video and that's $800 for something that appears to be a bug in Motion validating an external framework. From a software design perspective, the only reason that I'd want to grey those buttons is if there were a setting in each dialog that you needed to set before you could export or you were only using a trial version and you wanted to stop people from exporting it or if the dependent framework (e.g. ProApps export manager) wasn't validated in the registry within motion.
If they throw anything else at me like you need FCPX or Compressor or Lion then that's not right either since they had no mention of that on their website when I purchased it.
    This is just really frustrating!

  • Permissions buttons greyed out in disk utility

In the disk utility, the "verify permissions" and "repair permissions" buttons are greyed out no matter which disk is selected in the left-hand pane. Does anyone know why this is so and/or what alternative ways there are of repairing permissions?
The problem persists whether I start the computer from the recovery system (command-r) or not.
    Thanks.

Hi again and thanks for bearing with me!
I haven't done any cleanup, however there are only a couple of files in /Library/Receipts/, all very old, so I'm guessing the receipts are kept elsewhere after OS X 10.5, since the KB article you referred me to explicitly refers to pre- 10.5 systems.
The disk utility log in console and the info in the disk utility itself both give exactly the same info, which is basically what you’ve given:
              Owners Enabled :           Yes
Can Turn Owners Off :           Yes
              Can Repair Permissions :           Yes
              Can Be Verified :           Yes
              Can Be Repaired :           Yes
              Can Be Formatted :           Yes
              Bootable :           Yes
              Supports Journaling :           Yes
              Journaled :           Yes
              Disk Number :           0
              Partition Number :           2
If I understand correctly, this would all mean that I should be able to click “verify permissions” in the disk utility, but for some mysterious reason I cannot.
However, in the KB article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452) I notice it says “While started from an installation disc in Mac OS X v10.5 and later, a user's home directory permissions can be reset using the "Reset Password" utility.” Does this mean that if I use the reset password utility I can reset permissions and therefore not need to use the repair permissions function of the disk utility? Or is this something completely unrelated to what I’m trying to do?
I really appreciate your help very much - the only reason I wanted to repair permissions was that it was one of the recommended solutions to a problem I’ve had with microsoft office, which thankfully has now been solved after reinstalling os x and office, but it still bugs me that the option to repair permissions seems unavailable!
Anyway, it's not the end of the world if it can't be solved, you've helped me learn a lot in the process!

  • Daq Solutions Button Greyed out after reinstall

Problem: Purchased new NI PCI board (not sure the # now) and it came with NI-Daq 7.2 with it. I went to install it and found out it doesn't install with Windows95. Not that big of deal, needed to upgrade anyway. So, I installed a newer Pentium3 with Windows 2000 and installed all the drivers for the 2 PCI boards we use. Then I installed Labview 6i. After that I tried to install NI-Daq 7.2 and found out Labview installs an older version so I removed Labview completely, Installed NI-Daq 7.2, then reinstalled Labview 6i without the older NI-Daq verion that comes with it. Now when I load up Labview the "Daq Solutions" button is greyed out. I completely uninstalled NI-Daq and Labview again, reinstalled just labview with its olde
r (6.8) version of NI-Daq and still have the same problem. I searched here and didn't see any other solutions to this problem other than reinstall the software. I have done that 4 times now to no avail. Any other help?

    Hendry,
First of all, what is the model of your PCI data acquisition board? Depending upon your board model, you may want to use NI-DAQ 7.0, since that will allow you to automatically install support for LabVIEW 6.i. NI-DAQ 7.2 should work with LabVIEW 6.i, but you may have to manually copy some files to appropriate locations. With your current installation, does your board show up in MAX? If so, can you run any of the data acquisition examples that ship with LabVIEW?

  • ITunes does not sync - button greyed out

I recently updated my 3gs to the new software, and my new ipad (3rd gen) is also running on the latest software. I also have the latest iTunes.
Up until 3 days ago, everything worked fine. Now however, whenever I plug either of them into my computer to sync some new music (or anything else) on, the sync button is greyed out.
So far I have tried :
Restoring my iphone [+ it seems my backup is missing all my apps/music]
Erasing ALL apple programs (itunes, updater, quicktime etc.), and then reinstalling [I've done this all twice now]
    switching USB ports
Restarting both my computer and iPhone/iPad
    Authorizing my computer again
I cannot drag and drop music onto my devices or use the sync button.
However none of these work for me. I now have nothing on my phone, and cannot put anything on it. This is incredibly irritating.
Im starting to get very angry with these products. Apple is supposed to be reliable is it not?
    Someone please help me!

  • Adobe CS5 Suite 'Updates...' button greyed out

    Hi all,
First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section, couldnt see an Adobe Updates section anywhere.
Anyway, I have recently setup an Updates server for the school that I work at, all has gone well, until I today when I tried to test the Update server.
Basically, when I go to Help > Updates... the option is greyed out.  Obviously this causes problems becuase I would like to test the update server that I have setup...I have gone to a few computers and all of them have the same symptom.  I do remember disabling updates in our group policy deployed version of CS5, so I installed CS5 fresh from the CD source, which has no modifications by me - still no luck, button is still greyed out.
Is there something special I have to do 'activate' the updates button? On a similar note, the software is activated too...thought that may have been the problem, but it activates fine...
I'm sure there is a simple fix for this, but after a lot of google searching, I still have come up with 0 answers.
    Appreciate any help on this.
    Glen.

    Hi Glen,
I was having this same problem and came across your post.   I am running CS5 on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  I don't know if the cause of the problem is the same for you, but the way I resolved it was to right-click on the Photoshop CS5 icon and select "Run as Administrator".  If I don't do that, the "Updates" link in the Help menu is greyed out.
I'm not sure why this is happening, since my account is a member of the Administrators group.
    Regards,
    Jim K.
