Missing movie menu on apple tv

Hi :-)
I am missing the "movie" list on my apple tv after it comes back from standby.
The main menu only shows internet, computer, settings.... the movie menu is completly missing.
After resetting apple tv to default the movie menu is back, but all my settings are gone as well.
Anyone got an idea ?

I tried purchasing a movie tonight. It cut out within 2 mins into the film after buying it. I didnt think much of it because i knew we as canadians now have a "Purchased" column and i can recall it..... NOPE.  It magically dissapeared and its back to frustration with purchases and trying to retrieve them. What a joke! I had all my friends over too specifically to watch a movie on apple tv.  I figured i would just download it on my ipad or iphone and just stream it instead to apple tv.... again, no dice.  Its like apple just flipped the switch off for itunes movies in the cloud... stupid stupid stupid!

  • Unable to navigate past movie menu on Apple TV 1st Gen

I purchased a movie in iTunes that includes iTunes Extras.  It will play fine on my desktop.  When I try to play it on my Apple TV, it brings up the movie menu, just as though it was a DVD or Blu-ray.  I can highlight different menu options, like "Play Movie", "Scene Selection", etc.  However, I can't select any of the options.  iTunes allowed me to re-download the movie in case that was the problem, but it isn't fixed.  Their suggestion is that it's the Apple TV itself.  All the software on the desktop and Apple TV is current.  The Apple TV has been restarted.  No other movies in my iTunes library have this problem.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for your help!

It would not surprise me in the slightest if they're using some feature that AppleTV1 will not support.
Some movies get listed with Extras as playable on computer or on AppleTV1, others only on computer.

  • No more MOVIE menu in apple tv since new software update today! 12-12-2012

Hello, I did a new software update of my apple tv today and now the menu "MOVIE" is missing on the main page. I already rebooted the device but the problem still persists.
Do you have any feedback how I can fix this issue?? thank you

@Surfbroad you've probably done the following, but as @IpadinParadise has suggested, can you confirm that you're selecting the HDMI input on the TV that's Apple TV is connected to? Also, is the audio playing fine while the screen's black?
If you've made sure that the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to, then change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the "Menu" and "Up" button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the "Select" button will immediately cycle to the next resolution. This should choose the appropriate/compatible resolution for your TV automatically.
If the above doesn't work, and if your Apple TV is 1st generation, try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily).

  • Missing Dropdown menu on Apple

When I click on the "Apple" in the top left of the screen, I no longer get a drop down... I can't shut down (gracefully i.e.)? Any idea of how to restore this?
I have had a rash of problems lately. My system "died" took it to the Apple shop and they did a back up and resore which was cool. But soon after that one of my accounts just dissapeared from the login screen. I researched that and was able to restore it. Now this.
    thanks,
    Bill

    Bill,
Well, here's another angle to try:
Open System Preferences>accounts and create a new user account with no limitations.
Click on your account, and click the check box to automatically log in as the new user (perhaps you could leave this box unchecked, and just log in as the new user when the mac starts up).
    Close System Preferences.
Now shutdown your mac (anyway you can).
    Restart...
    1. Are you able to start up as the new user?
    2. Does the new user have all the apple menu items you're used to seeing?
If so, I'd just move all you stuff over to the new user account (probably via the "shared" folder). Jot down all your network preference info, and just type it into the "new" applications.
Once you're sure you've got everything from the old account into the new one, I'd delete the old account....
    Status?

  • Why did Apple remove the "All Movie" category from the purchased movies menu?

We have purchased over 200 moivies from itunes, and until the most recent software update we could always view all of our movies together on Apple TV.  When you choose purchased movies the "All Movies" category is no longer available, it's been replaced by "Shared Movies" which would include movies purchased by your family members.  Now the only way to play your purchased movies is to go to the different genres below, that is a problem because it's not easy to determine what genre the movies you want falls into....for example the Star Wars Movies series is divided in to two different categories, the same goes for all of our kids movies, they are in mutlipule categories which makes it hard to scroll throug multipule categories to find the movies you want.  This seems like such a small thing, but really does make Apple TV much more complicated and frustrating to use.  Please HELP Apple and bring the All Movies Category back! Thank you.

I don't use family sharing either, so I'm not sure of the implications. However, assuming this is something to do with family sharing (some doubt, I saw another thread where a poster had the menu missing and didn't use family sharing) it would appear that it is intentional for it to appear in one state but not in another, this tends to tell me it's received a good coat of thinking about.
I sincerely doubt there's much thought gone into a retrograde user interface and experience

  • My apple tv main menu no longer displays the "movies" section, just internet, computers, and settings. Does anyone know why or how to get it back up? Recently rented a movie directly through apple tv but can't see the movies section in main menu now.

My apple tv main menu no longer displays the "movies" section, just internet, computers, and settings. Does anyone know why or how to get it to show again? Recently rented a movie directly through apple tv but can't see the "movies" section in main menu now. WiFi and home sharing are working.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check the location setting for the iTunes Store is correct.
You might also try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
If you are still having problems try a restore.

  • My apple tv is frozen on the movie menu

No matter what I do, the apple tv is frozen on this screen.  I have tried resetting, unplugging it and restarting PC and wireless router

I am having the same issue, although my Apple TV screen saver comes on and when I try to use the remote, the light flashes yellow, not white.  When I reboot it, it boots back to the same spot, which is the main menu, but "Yop Movies" under the Movies menu is highlighted.
    Any advice?

  • HT1860 I purchased a movie on my apple tv (1st generation) and I'm unable to download the movie to my computer.  What am I missing?

I purchased a movie on my apple tv (1st generation) and I'm unable to download the movie to my computer.  What am I missing?  I have home sharing set up and can see my computer iTunes on my apple TV.  I just can't see my apple TV movie on my computer.

    Hello theycallmeboz,
If the movie was purchased on the AppleTV it wont show up in home sharing until that movie has been downloaded to an iTunes library. You can download previous purchases from the iTunse Store at any time. The article below goes over that process.

  • Movie menu missing

Adobe premiere elements 11. When publishing a movie to the computer there is no movie menu at the beginning. It goes straight into the movie

    Welcome to the forum.
I agree with ATR on this matter.
However, we are seeing more and more requests for Menus and navigation in Exported/Shared files. It seems that some programs CAN add Menus and navigation in certain media files, played with certain media players, and most of those seem to be versions of MOV files for the Mac. If this is something that you need, and have a player that can take Menus and navigation, one of the Mac forums might be helpful in getting recs. for other programs, that CAN provide the Menus and navigation for you. I just do not know of any such programs, but others have commented that they can do that - just without useful recs. and only complaints that Premiere cannot do it.
On the PC side of the street, I do not recall any users jumping in with "I can do that with ____ " but that does not mean that there are NOT PC programs, that can accomplish the task. I also do not know of any PC player, that handles Menus and navigation, but that could just be my personal lack of knowledge.
Good luck, and if you do need those functions, and find programs that will provide it to you, please update this thread, as I know that I would like to learn something new.

  • Movie not on apple tv list, but is playable by apple remote (iphone)

Sorry about the crazy title, I don't know how to say this succinctly.
I have just gotten a new apple tv and have synced several movies to it, but still have my entire library on my mac pro streaming to it. There are a couple of movies that show up on itunes under the appletv device, they also show up on my iphone remote AND can be played on the apple tv by the apple remote on my iphone. however, it does not show up in the movies list on my apple tv. I have had a couple of older ripped movies not show up and reencoding them did the trick with the apple tv preset on handbrake, but the tricky one is Wall-E which is the digital copy from the blu-ray. meaning, this one is downloaded from itunes, and is totally legit. It plays on my appletv, but only from my remote on my iphone, I cannot see it or play it from the apple tv directly.
btw, I now see the reencoded movies on apple tv, but I was still able to play them from the remote, before encode...
I have tried syncing it, then unsyncing it then syncing again, no luck. even not syncing it, it doesn't show up....

I think I know what happened, I am not at home to double check, but can someone confirm this? in 2.3 apple added the ability to group movies by labeling them in the Show field of the video tab of get info. My guess is, and I can confirm when I go home, that the missing movies are in a "folder" called animated, that I over looked when scrolling down looking for a specific title. This is actually a good thing, but I didn't label the show field specifically, though it certainly is labeled on those tracks that I am missing, at least the couple I checked, and the ones that I do see, nothing is in that field. (thanks to back to my mac, now just allow screensharing on my apple tv... :))
This is a great feature, just don't like it being entered without my knowledge...
I will confirm upon getting home, but I bet if you have a large library and things go missing, make sure you have checked for folders. I know in my case, I added a genre to these movies by command selecting them and selecting get info, then changed the genre only. Either by bug or design, the Show field was also populated automatically. (both said animated) those that I entered the genre by itslef or in the library without get info, did not seem to populate the show field...

  • Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?

I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! I was under the wrong impression about moving movies rented on the Apple TV back to the computer. The forum has come through for me three out of three times I have posted question. Thanks again!
*Can I play my rental on more than one device?*
If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.*

  • How can i see "recently added movies" on my apple tv?

On my apple TV 1 st generation, i had the option to view the "recently added movies" on the apple TV menu. Now that i have the apple TV second generation, I DO NOT see this option but i can still see the option "genre, unwatched, by movie". Is there anyone who can help me out on this one? (By the way i had to move all my movies from one hard drive to another, maybe it's something to do with that?)

I think I see now you mention playlists. You can create a smart playlist in iTunes and access it from the Apple TV, this would appear in the nested section under playlists though rather than in the three viewing options at the top of the movie listings. Before you can view playlists you need to enable playlists in the settings.

  • How can I watch a rented iTunes movie on my Apple TV?

    I tried to:
    select the movie in iTunes
Advanced>Create iPad or Apple TV version
The "Create iPad or Apple TV Version" menu is not active.
I have Apple TV version 1
    iTunes 10.5.2
    Thanks for any help,

Only Movies you have purchased will show up in "Movies" on your Apple TV. These get streamed and do not require any computer to be turned on in your house.  Unfortunately, Apple has not made playing of rented movies that easy.  art308 essentially answered this at the very beginning of the discussion.  You must turn on Home Sharing on the computer you rented the movie.  In iTunes on your computer go to the top menu bar and under "File" you will see "Home Sharing." Enter your Apple ID, etc. to get Home Sharing up and running on that computer.  You also need to turn on Home Sharing on your Apple TV.  If you have more than one computer in your house, it is probably a good idea to turn on Home Sharing on all your computers while you're at it...unless you have some unique reason why you do not want that functionality active on some of the computers.  To confirm Home Sharing is on, and if you have more than one computer running iTunes at home, look at the left menu bar in iTunes (the new version of iTunes does not have that visible by default, but I choose to have it visible).  Under "Shared" you will see the iTunes libraries that are included in your Home Sharing network-assumeing those computers are on.
Now, when you go to your Apple TV you need to go to "Computers."  You will see a list of all the iTunes Libraries that are in your Home Sharing network that are turned on.  The computers that are off will not show up. Click on the one that contains your rented movie.  Start playing.
I must say...this is one heck of a pain.  This would all be much easier if you could go to "Movies" on your Apple TV and see a listing of all your active rented movies...even those not rented on the Apple TV.  Personally, I think the way Apple has this set up goes against its mantra of..."It just Works."

  • Missing movie files in iPhoto 08

I have just noticed that in some of my events the movie is missing (the last six). In checking the finder I see that the actual file is missing too. The only changes I have made is to upgrade to snow leopard and I got a magic mouse. There are .mov files in other folder and the movie shows in the iPhoto. I noticed this because the magic mouse wont open the movie files in iPhoto.
So I have two problems: One: where have my recent movies gone that were once iPhoto. (They are not in iMovie and I have checked Time Machine) and two: why wont my mouse open a movie in iPhoto.
    Any help will be great!

When you Control-click on one of the missing movie's thumbnails and select Show File from the contextual menu what do you see?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Date and time missing in menu bar

From time to time the date and time disappear from the menu bar.  Other times most of the items disappear from the menu bar.  What causes this?  Yes, a reboot puts them back but a reboot should not be necessary.  Any thoughts?

    Might be corrupted preferences ...
Type or copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
Then monitor the time and date in the menu bar.
