Missing movies after Apple TV update

I have two Apple TVs - a 2nd gen one and a 3rd gen one. I also have about 30 movies in my iTunes movies library which, when I connect with that computer on either Apple TVs brings all the content across.
However, since the update, most of that content has vanished from the Apple TV 3rd gen. I haven't updated the 2nd gen ATV and all the content is still there when I link to the computer.
Any ideas what's happened or how I can get them to show up on my ATV3?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'd first check that you haven't labeled your missing content as home video and it hasn't simply been moved into this category as a result of it being introduced in the latest software.

  • Missing movies on Apple Tv

I am having problems with my new Apple TV. I initally set it up and all my movies from my itunes library on my MacBook were shown on the Apple TV. I just went back on for the second time using it and some of my movies were missing on my Apple TV yet they are still in my Itunes library. I reset Apple TV, reset the router and all updates are updated. Not sure what can be the problem.

I had the same problem. Only some of my movies from iTunes were showing up on my Apple TV. Here's what fixed it for me: Make sure you have a "Genre" selected for EVERY movie. In list view in iTunes you can see any number of list items you want (from the View menu, view options). View the Genre item and make sure all movies have a genre. If you don't want to put "comedy," "romance," etc., simply put "movie" in the genre spot for every movie. Then restart your iTunes, restart your Apple TV (from the Apple TV settings menu, find restart), then try again. Worked for me.
Turns out some changes Apple has made in the last few updates has made "genre" more important to movies than it used to be. Go figure.

  • 2nd incident: no workie after apple sw update

long time mac owner, but currently a frustrated one...
imac less than 6 months old, and for the 2nd time after updating sw i am unable to use the machine. first time was after a security update, and the whole disk permissions / drive errors fiasco which resulted in a fresh OS install and unfortuantely some data loss (but machine was only a few weeks in use, so no biggie). now after installing (what seems to be weekly itunes updates) machine won't start: flashing ? folder.
started from install DVD and ran disk utility: it lists the internal drive, but won't let me actually do anything to it (i.e. can't mount, verify, test, nada).
next i thought i'd just re-install and archive, but the installer can't find the drive either. ugh.
    suggestions?
(sometimes i miss the good old days of system 9... did i just say that out loud?)
    thanks in advance.

    Good morning,
    I'll pretend I didn't hear the System 9 comment...
You ran your Disk Utility from the installation CD and it does see the drive? Does it correctly identify the drive size and filesystem? If it does, that is odd, it sounds like the drive has become corrupted or unreadable for some reason, possibly a bad drive, but the fact it's seeing the drive at all makes me a bit skeptical.
You might give it a try to boot into Safe Mode and see what happens, more information and instructions can be found at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393. Might not result in much, but if it boots then we can almost count out bad hardware.
Or, if the machine is under 6 months, you might give some thought to making a Genius Bar appointment and seeing if they can give you a hint or two... (Assuming the wealth of technical knowledge here on the boards can't get it fixed first.)
Let me know if it is IDing the drive properly and if the boot to Safe Mode works...

  • Trouble with home sharing after apple tv update

trouble with my home sharing after apple tv up date

Same here. iPhone, Mac Mini and Apple TV3 are all up to date. Logged in and out on each device and home sharing and airplay still don't work at all. Nothing shows up in the remote app. They're all on the same network and have been. The only thing I can think of is the most recent ATV firmware update, but why would my phone be unable to see my computer??
    Any secret commands to try?

  • Apple Logic Pro Crashing after Apple Security update

Everytime I try to open up a Logic Project in my 3.0 Ghz Mac Pro Logic will not open and just crashes. This started happening after I updated with the new Apple Security update. Most of the Logic Projects were done when I had the 2.5 Ghz Quad. Not sure if it was the Security update or using the intel mac to open older projects.
My current set-up Apple Mac 3.0 Ghz Xeon chip Configuation. 3 gb of memory.
Any help on this would be a great. I have a performance in three weeks and have to get this sorted out before hand so I can master my instrumentals.
    Steve

I have the Mac Intel 3.0 as well, and it's working pretty well. I do open up Logic tracks that were created on a G5, with only one big problem, all of the program change boxes become checked. Also, the old environments can cause problems.
I notice your profile says you're running system 10.4.6. If so, you should upgrade to at least 10.4.8. Trashing your preferences is also good, as is repairing permissions. 3 Gig of memory should be fine until you go nuts with plugins.
I've upgraded to 10.4.9, but you have to download the combo install from the Apple web site. The incremental upgrades create problems.
After you've upgraded Logic, try opening up a blank Autoload. If that opens, then the program is working, at least that far. You might have to rebuild your Environment from scratch. No fun, but it will eliminate problems from earlier sequences. Good luck.

  • Error Message 3906 After Apple TV Update

Today my Apple TV updated.  Once the update was complete I was no longer able to connect wirelessly.  I keep getting the error message -3906.  If I plug my ethernet cord into the Apple TV than everything works.  The issues has to do with wireless connectivity.  Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of comments? You might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Personal video and movies no longer showing after Apple TV Update

Since I updated my Apple TV (second gen), all my personal videos seem to have vanished. This includes videos I may have created and/or digitized myself that are present in iTunes on my Mac. Now all I see are movies I purchased thorugh iTunes. I am connecting via my lcoal network to my Mac.
How do I get all my video to show again as it did with the last version of the software?

I believe it depends on licensing rights for movies which rotate from time to time. For example you can usually predict what movies are going to disappear based on their premiering (or re-premiering) on cable channels. My guess is that whatever movies you had on your wishlist probably just premiered on HBO or one of the pay cable channels. Eventually their licensing rights will expire and the movie will return to ATV.

  • Missing library after 10.1 update

I just ran the suggested update to 10.1. Right after it installed and opened I noticed my entire library was missing in itunes (music, apps, movies, etc). The only things that was there was a few albums I had purchased directly from iTunes. I checked finder and the other 60+ GB of music is still on my macbook pro (in the itunes folder). Any suggestions to fix this and why it did this?

have you seen this support article: [_*No content shows up in iTunes after updating*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967] ?
    also check out this script:
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

  • HELP HELP!!! iTunes wont sync my TV Shows and Movies after 2.0 update.

Last week I went away on holiday on the 11th. That meant I never managed to get the iPod Touch Update until Ihad arrived and found an Internet Connection. When I started to do the update I had a problem because the restore of all of my content that should be done after the update failed. I worked round that by setting it up as a new Ipod and re-importing my itunes library. Now when I go to try and sync my iPod Touch it syncs everything but my Movies and TV Shows. It comes up with the following:
Attempting to copy to disk "iPod Touch" failed. An unknown error occured (-69).
I searched for this on Google and no luck. I try over and over again and comes up with the same problem.
    Can anyone help me?????

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).

  • HT202157 Can't see rented or purchased movies after the AppleTV update. Help?Hi

    Hi
We updated our AppleTV a couple of days ago and we tried to rent a movie last night but failed. I am able to go into the Movies section, find the movie I want, even see the preview in perfect condition. The problem arises when I want to rent. I get a window that asks me to: rent and see now, rent and see later or cancel. I select "Rent and See Now", it moves to a "Loading" page and then pops back to the movie page without having rented it. I tried it with several movies and it didn't work. I also tried it with my purchased movies and I get the same exact error when I try to play them.
All other features on my AppleTV seem to work fine, YouTube, iTunes Festival, for example. I have tried disconnecting my iTunes account and connecting it again but that didn't work. Tried rebooting the AppleTV as well but that didn't help.
How can I get it back to working?

I have been having the exact same problem, and I am outside of the United States but my iTunes account is from the United States.
I have never had problems streaming purchased movies, shows, or music before.
Now I can see all that has been purchased and even select them.  However, when a movie or show is played, it shows the spinning wheel for a couple seconds and reverts back to the movie/show details screen.  When music is attempted to be played, a "content not found" error occurs when a song is selected.
Interestingly, movie previews can still be watched just fine.
Also, if I restore or reset the Apple TV I can immediately watch one move or show video, but the second time this is attempted it reverts back to the original error.
This means that I have to spend 4 minutes resetting the Apple TV just to watch something.
Apple support was not able to resolve this.
Netflix and other apps work just fine.
This also just happened a couple days ago after I updatet my Apple TV

  • TS5150 Not spanish language sound after apple tv update

I update today march 10 of 2014 to my Apple TV and now I can't play in Netflix the second language option that in this case is Spanish. The Spanish alternative still available but don't come out any sound. This used to work and now doesn't. I tested in others that used to work and now doesn't after the update. This is very disappointment. Why this it's happening? How to fix it?
    Really appreciate the help.
    Thank you!

what are the items youre having problems with?  have you checked to see if the problem is the same on the netflix website rto see if this is related to the appletv update or just something with netflix?

  • Printing with Epson 2880 after Apple Software Update of Epson Drivers

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the loss of "Print Settings and Color Management" controls in the print dialogue when printing from Lightroom or Photoshop after the recent Driver Update (which appeared in Software Update.) Prior to the Update which I had been avoiding until it came down when I updated iTunes (again, Software Update) all print options were available with the Epson software. Oddly, if you elect allowing the printer to control the output the color and color settings are available but if you set the (Lightroom or Photoshop) dialogue to the paper profile then the color and color settings are grayed out. I talked at length with both Epson Tech support and went through the drill of removing and installing the printer and installing the newest drivers (from Epson) and nothing changed. I talked with Apple and again, nothing changed inspite of various adjustments. This is just a little disturbing since I do a considerable amount of photo printing.
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

I'm going to make an additional comment to my question and that is, strange as the behavior is, this may be a normal function with the update. Although during my roughly hour talk with Epson tech support, the rep was not aware and gave me reason to believe what was (not) happening in the software was in fact wrong. Clearly, the new print dialogue with it's grayed out settings is different from the previous print dialogue and print settings. If you now use a paper profile - regardless of manufacturer - the software assumes you are going to turn off color management - which is absolutely correct. Although I have not tried it, I am led to believe from some material I found deep in Epson's Support, the "color" area in the print dialogue no longer permits electing printing in "advanced" Black and White. More correctly, inorder not to have B&W grayed out you must be using glossy paper and the correct black ink cartridge is in the printer. This isn't a bad idea but sometimes I find the image is better with a Matte paper. Obviously you can, and I have, printed in B&W - you just have to be aware that within the Color settings of the print dialogue you no longer have the "option" to select B&W or advanced B&W. In some strange ways the new dialogue and settings areas of the Apple print menu for the Epson printers is simpler but it does come as a surprise when you first struggle with the changes.

  • Missing workspaces after IllustratorCC (2014) update

Title says it all. After the latest IllustratorCC(2014) update I noticed my normal workspace didn't load. Figured after an update just needed to sync settings...nothing. Then check Ai workspaces folder, just the presets. Even "Time Machined" the Ai workspaces folder, never saw my old workspaces. Not sure if that was where they were originally, but within Illustrator I used to easily pull it up. Are they gone? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I could fix this by accident. I am on Mac. Quit Illustrator. Go to … Users/Your_Username/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings/Your_Language. Inside this folder is a folder called Changed Workspaces. The Workspaces folder is for whatever reason empty. Move the Workspace File you can't access within Illustrator to your Desktop. Start Illustrator, quit Illustrator. Move the file back into this folder. Start Illustrator again. In my case all workspaces appear now correctly.
