Missing MTS thumbnails in PE8

I;m reopening an earlier thread.
When I imported AVCHD files form my computer, PE8 renames them with .mts extension, so my thumbnails don't show.
I downloaded the codec for mts and still no luck. I saw that someone suggested renaming the file to .m2ts, but since the file in explorer is already and avchd, that doens't work. If I try to rename in PE8, it gives me duplicate extensions ... i.,e 001.m2ts.mts
Any work arounds that anyone has seen. i know you can preview them in Premier, but I do all my file choosing from elements.
Thanks

EO does not support thumbanails of .mts files. Also, PE8 does not support extension renaming.

  • Missing video thumbnails

Using Photoshop Elements 7 and Premier Elements 8 on a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 which was upgraded from XP to 7 in December.  I had to uninstall both programs in order to do this.  I recently reinstalled the programs because I have time now to work with my photos and videos.  Last year I started using a Sony Handycam 650 to shoot videos and loaded all videos into Photoshop.  Everything was fine.  I had thumbnails for all the videos and photos.  Now when I import videos from the camera or the hard drive I don't get thumbnails.  What I get are blue boxes with a filmstrip on it.  They are not the missing file thumbnail.  I can play the videos and I can edit but without the thumbnails it is very hard to add any tags.  I haven't made any changes to the default settings on the camera since I am a novice with a video camera and the default seemed to work just fine.  I looked through several pages in this forum and did not find anything on this problem.  Hope someone can help.

    AHHH HA!!!
    I solved the problem!
It has nothing to do with the format of the video. Simply open it in quicktime (not sure if you need pro or not) and click "view - set poster frame." Then save the movie and reimport into itunes. This was probably very simple and I just overlooked it, but I hope this solution helps other people with the same problem!

  • Missing Video thumbnails in iphoto in iphoto 11

I have just discovered lots of missing movies in my iphoto library, I have re imported them from an iphoto backup, and if i search for the keyword movie they appear, but no thumbnails appear in the photo display. I have tried rebuilding the library but none of the imported videos show up. New videos imported from my camera show up fine.

    Thanks for the quick reply!
I triple checked a handful of the video files and they aren't exhibiting black at the start.
    How I checked:
    - Select black video thumbnail image
    - Press space bar (to "zoom" and begin playing video"
    - Stop video playback at approx. five seconds in (video counter reads 00:00:05)
    - Rewind "playhead" to very start of video so that the counter reads 00:00:00 and there is definately an image / content being displayed (e.g. is not black)
See attached screen shot with playhead at 00:00:00

  • MTS thumbnails not displaying in PrE9

I have a thumbnail problem. I just bought PrE9 because I was unhappy with Studio V14's slow/jerky performance with AVCHD.  I have a Canon HF20 and used Windows to move the videos (MTS's) over to my harddrive.  They are all HD videos in MTS format.  My PC is a Dell Pentium D, 3.46GHz, 4GB DDS RAM, 1GB of "free" harddisk space, ATI 4670 Graphics Card.
I had imported a number of MTS files from my Canon to harddisk using Windows and then imported them from harddisk into Organizer.  The thumbnails were blank so I deleted them  and tried re-importing just one clip but got the same problem.  The clip can be inserted into a timeline and shows up with the first frame of the video but has a blank thumbnail in both Organizer and PRE.  They play fine in either PrE9 and Organizer.  Any suggestions.

Thanks for posting the screenshots. Thumbnail drawing does not seem to be taking place at all.
I dont think it is a codec related problem because had that been the case the playback also wouldn't have worked.
There is another place the thumbnails are seen and that is the "Project" view. Can you check if the thumbnails are seen in this view ?
Also, on the system running Pentium D how much RAM do you have ? Adobe states a minimum of 2 GB RAM for avchd editing.
(Though I would recommend 3 or 4GB). And since on your other system which has 8GB RAM things appear to be fine, low RAM could be
a potential reason for thumbnails not being seen. Again, I am just speculating.

  • Photos missing, black thumbnails in iOS5

Here's the problem. I'm noticing that in my camera roll there are a bunch of all black thumbnails that should be actual images. If I try to open the black thumbnails, they are all black (i.e., the thumbnails aren't the only thing messed up). In addition, some of the thumbnails are grey images that look like they have a frame around them.
I've had the phone hooked up to iCloud and photo stream and have disconnected it from icloud and neither seems to make a difference. I can't figure out a pattern as to which pictures are missing. In addition, the missing pictures do not appear in photo stream either. They are just black thumbnails of pictures that apparently can't be retrieved. I also noticed that in my camera roll some of the thumbnails are out of sequential time order.
When I have photo stream on, there are no black thumbnails in it. Some of the black thumbnails (but not all) from the camera roll appear fine on my laptop. I have it connected to photostream to automatically sync new photos (windows 7). However, this doesn't account for all of the missing photos, which was my first theory.
It seems like there are a lot of people with similar problems, but I haven't heard it described this way and I can't figure out a pattern to when the images are missing.
    Thanks for any help.

Had exact same issue on my wife's IPhone 4 IOS 5, had a back up of most of the photos and was only the last weeks that were "missing"? so was feeling brave and followed the steps in the below links and deleted the 3 files using iexplorer rebooted and it restored all the photos and rebuilt the thumbnails list.
hope it works for you as well.

  • Missing iPhoto Thumbnail Images in iMovie Project Library

    Okay, here goes...
I'd created a short movie and have it in iMovie's project library. The movie included video footage from a dv camera as well as video from my digital photo camera. I recently reorganized and merged several events folders in iPhoto from my vacation, which included parts of the video used in the iMovie short movie project. Now, when I select the project in iMovie, some of the thumbnails are missing from the video sequence to the right of the project name.
It still plays (thankfully), but it's irritating me that I cannot figure out why the thumbnails have disappeared.
Does it have something to do with merging iPhoto files? If so, or even if not, how do I fix this and have the thumbnails reappear?

Something similar is happening to me. I created a project a couple of months ago in iMovie '08, and now the "upper window" thumbnails are showing with an exclamation mark - but just the video clips! The photos are still there. You can see the thumbnail with the exclamation mark and when you drag the cursor through it to see it play, it only does in the little damaged thumbnail but not in the screen. After touching it, it becomes black. It does not play at all when the project is played completely. I someone finds out how to solve this, please advise.
    Thanks so much.

  • Missing text / thumbnails / many Lightroom UI elements disappeared

Hi. I run LR 1.1 on Mac OS X. A few days ago, when I launched Lightroom, I noticed something very weird: all the thumbnails in Grid view were empty. The cells are there, but no badges, text, or image thumbnail.
Looking more closely, I see that other UI elements are missing:
    - the area that normally shows current folder and # of selected images, between the back/forward arrows and the filters above the filmstrip, is empty (if I click on it, I do get the "Recent Sources" menu
    - the area around the navigator is empty; I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it used to be
    - in Develop module, the History panel is visually empty (but there are items in it, just invisible; if I click them they do what they should)
And finally: back to the missing thumbnail in Grid view. If I have any cell extras _above_ the thumbnail, the entire cell is empty. If I turn off the header/top cell extra (in either compact or expanded), then the thunbnail shows up, and badges show up, and (if applicable) ratings/rotation buttons/whatever I asked for shows up. But in no case does any text show up. Again, summarized: all the text is missing from each cell, and if I opted for anything whatsoever as "top label" (in compact) or "show header with labels" (in expanded), the entire cell is wholly empty.
I tried reinstalling LR a few times; no change.
Anyone see this before, or can suggest anything I should try for troubleshooting or fixes?

I see other people having this problem on Windows as well:

  • Elements Organizer 8 doesn't show .mts thumbnails

I have opened two support tickets with Adobe on this issue and the first one stopped responding and the 2nd case the tech didn't even read my post letting him know what I have already tried.
I even completely reinstalled windows 7 x64 and ONLY installed Adobe Elements/Photoshop and the thumbnails for my AVCHD (.mts) files don't appear.  My HDV videos do (.m2ts).  The thumbnails do appear in Elements, but not in organizer...which makes organizer worthless for me as that's the real reason I upgraded.
I see where othere have had this issue but I haven't seen a "fix".  I suspect it's because it's a bug and adobe won't fix it until maybe version 9.
    Frustrated

BTW, have you activated the Main Concept element in your program?
It should activate automatically. But you may need to use it so that the program can activate it. (This is all assuming you've registered the program on the Adobe site.)
One way to activate it is to output something -- even just a short clip -- as an MPEG.
Since Main Concept's codec pack is responsible for the AVCHD thumbnails, this MIGHT make a difference. So might ensuring you've got the latest version of Quicktime.
You can also manually add codecs from the Main Concept site if you'd like.

  • Missing MTS files?

I am a new user of Premier Elements.  My first project is to create a sports highight video and I think I have just lost a season's worth of work.
I am using Premier Elements 11. My process is to 1) "Drop" a video into a PE Project; 2) Trim the video to shorten the clip for the 7-10 seconds of action; 3) Repeat with the next video.  However, in an effort to free disk space, I just deleted all the origninal large video files.  Now Premier Elements is asking me where are MTS files and the trimmed clips are missing from the project.  Does PE require the retention of the original video files?  Any sugguestions on what to do?  My original video files are now unrecoverable.

Until you actually export (share is the current term) your timeline to a new video file, Premiere Elements (and Premiere Pro) are "non-destructive" editors, in that your project only consists of "pointers" to what you want to do inside the original file... the original file is not touched in any way AND the original file IS required
So... since you deleted the original files, your project "pointers" are pointing to files that do not exist
Sadly, you have just learned a hard lesson... do not delete/move video files until you are 100% done with your project

  • Missing InDesign thumbnails in Bridge

I've just started poking around in Bridge for the first time and my InDesign files don't show up as thumbnails. The files are there, but just white rectangles.
The help menu acknowledges this may happen and says to:
PREFERENCES>FILE HANDLING>(check box)ALWAYS SAVE PREVIEW IMAGES WITH DOCUMENTS
It also says to check the same box in the SAVE window when saving a document.
My setup has always had those settings, yet there are still no thumbnails.
All other graphics show up fine.
    Thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi Ramon,
I figured out the problem. I wanted to see two pages side by side so I had a blank page one. That's the one Bridge was showing and it was, of course, white.
    Silly me.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Missing image thumbnail/preview in finder?

When scrolling through image files (jpg) within finder as organized in "column view," I used to be able to select an image just once (not opening up the preview application) but seeing a little thumbnail in the column view within finder. This was the case up until Mountain Lion. Does anyone know how to regain this feature?

Just kidding...found it in VIEW menu

  • Missing iPhoto thumbnails

I've tried everything, but just can't seem to get iphoto to display large or small thumbnails.  Exported iPhoto library to external hard disk a couple of months ago and all continued to work well.  Then updated to snow Leopard OS.  A week later noted that external hard drive not mounting.  Very intermittent and sometimes it would mount and other times not, but certainly iphoto library not working with photos not visible or editible.
Eventually after trying every bit of advice regarding sorting out 'external hard disk not mounting,' resorted to extracting data with software program called Stella something.  All data retrieved and all images within iphoto library original and modified folders all viewable in preview.
However although iphoto now working fine with iphoto library on new ext hard drive none of the thumbnails are displaying so I can't see what photos are where. If I click on an events thumbnail (empty black box) it takes to me to collection of grey boxes representing photos for that event. These open up and are editible. but I just don't know what they are until I've gone through this process.
I have tried rebuilding the small thumbnails, the large thumbnails, repairing permissions, rebuilding from back up, but no change.  I even removed ilife '09 from hard disk and reinstalled and updated software to ensure library readable, but again same problem.
My next option is to get ilife '11 but I dont think that'll be any different.  Failing that I might take all photos out of iphoto library and re-import the lot but firstly not sure if I need to import all from both original and modified folders and what will happen to all the albums, books, calendars previously created.
Any help to resolving this problem would be a life saver! I wonder whether there are conflicting files in the iphoto library regarding thumbnails or structure or something aside from a problem with the photos themselves.
    Many thanks
Oh and also when I open imovie it tries to retrieve videos from iphoto library and states that not in correct format even though they don't seem to have changed to me and open just fine from finder.

ok so I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and used its rebuild function.  Appeared to be working and in fact has rebuilt half of the library thumbnails and everything complete - perfect....Well almost except it only managed to rebuild half of it, copying 3000 or so of the 8900 photos on my external hard drive stating that it could not find the remaining photos in the original folder, even though I can and they seem to open up no problem in finder.  So there must be some corrupt data in the files that direct iphoto to locate all these original photos I'm guessing - What do you think?
(Also interesting imovie no longer is able to find movies within iphoto library even though they are all there)

  • Safari is missing the thumbnail view icon.

I just updated my iPad to iOS 5 and now Safari doesn't show the thumbnail view icon in either landscape or portrait?

Yes, we want what we already had (wizard of oz style)....it's not about how it is, it's how it was (and isn't now). I wished they'd spent more time on trying to get the app store and the iBooks  store to remember where I was searching and not go back to page 1 after many, many pages!. Not waste their time on changing the whole kit and caboodle in a massive upgrade that gives us, original iPad/iPod users, something that we didn't want. What we had was fine...just needed a few tweaks and a few extras (maybe?)'not  a copy of a computer screen...that is way bigger to view in any case!

  • File names missing from thumbnails when short cut keys are used

Across several Adobe products I use (Photoshop CS3 and CS6, Captivate 5 and 5.5) I don't see filenames under thumbnail images when I use short cut keys to open or save documents. This happens in Windows 7 and Windows XP.
When I use the short cuts the file names don't appear in the document window - all I see is thumbnails with nothing under them.
If I open or save through the menus I don't have this problem.
It doesn't always happen, but occurs maybe 75% of the time. Sometime the file names will appear at first, but if I navigate to another location they disappear. This only happens in the thumbnail view in the window. Other views show the file name but as they don't show the thumbnail aren't as useful when working with images.
Does anyone know what is causing this, and how I get the file names to appear?
    Thanks

Here's a couple of screenshots of the problem (Photoshop CS4 and Captivate 5.5 running in Windows XP). I have the same problem with Photoshop CS3, and now CS6, running in Windows 7 on another computer. It's not so bad when you can see images, but when you're trying to find folders, or have PSDs that don't thumbnail, then it becomes a nightmare trying to open or save anything.
    Thanks,
    Alistar
