Missing music after restore on failed 7.1.2

hi guys,
I've just installed the new 7.1.2 update onto my iPad2, which gave me the unmoving apple logo. I then restored the ipad through the USB method and now most of our music is missing. I've been onto the store, but when I search for something we've downloaded I find the song on the site, it says purchased, but there is no option of downloading it to the iPad. We've got roughly 12gb of music that we've paid for but can't access......
anyone one any ideas?

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

  • Missing information after restored from back up

I had an iPhone 4 traded it in, prior to trading it in I synced it via the cloud but not to my computer.  When I got my phone from Sprint they started the restore process for me and said that it could take a little while but if I was missing any information after about a day or so to come back and they could help.  Well after waiting a couple days and calling numerous times to sprint I gave up and went back into the store.  Unfortunaly, some how my old phone was wiped before I came back.  I then called 1-800-MYAPPLE for help, COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL!  To shorten this story up, my new phone shows that I have 2.5 GB of data stored in the cloud and my new phone only has 35MB, I have all my contacts, all of my calendar info, half my notes, half my pics, none of my videos, and none of my reminders.  The new phone has iOS 6.1.2 and I believe the old phone had iOS 6.1.1.  How do I get the remaing info from my old phone?!  I don't care if I have to download it to a computer or my phone it doesn't have to be on my new phone.  Someone please help!

Thanks for the help!  I didn't realize that photo stream doesn't back up videos and it deletes pics after 30 days.  I did what you said and I did get my settings back and some apps I had lost and my music.  So that's better than nothing!  Thanks for the help!!

  • Ipod touch wont sync music after restore/update

i recently came back from the apple store after trying to update my ipod to 4.2 and running across many errors. finally, my ipod is working again however as it had to be restored i have to sync everything back onto it. The apps, photos and videos synced fine but when it tries to sync music, itunes freezes right away. it will say syncing whatever song and it just stops. First, the number of songs and what song it syncs first seems to change every time i sync it. Sometimes it says 1 of 1 sometimes 168 out of 168, when it should be at least over 500 songs. Second, after i let the computer with the frozen itunes sit for a while, it came up with 2 error messages; one saying the song could not be synced because of error -20 i think, the second saying the data couldn't be written onto the ipod and then it froze forever on the finishing syncing bar. i've tried restarting my computer, disconnecting the internet and disabling my firewall. itunes is up to date and so is the ipod obviously. we use ca security center. please help i just want to be able to use my ipod again

the ca security people fixed my problem and its syncing fine. if anyone else has problems syncing while running ca security post on this forum and they will pm you the solution

  • Missing mail after restoring mail profile folder

Hello,i had problems with my sent folder and had to restore my profile folder to a 3 day old copy, but after that my inbox is missing mail for 16 days, the mail is extremely important as it contains all my orders and working material and i need a way to recover it. Please help me! Right now there is no previous version of the folder to restore once i open its options, neither on the inbox file, what do i do now?

restored what and how is the first question. If your talking about windows restore I am out of here. That is a Microsoft mess I want nothing to do with.
The only constant I can suggest is right click the folder in Thunderbird, select properties and then the repair button to force a reindex of the mail store.

  • Iphone 4 missing music after ios6 update

Since I have updated my IPhone 4 with IOS 6 it has not functioned well at all. Music is missing (but on Mac, Ipad1, I touch 1), 70%of apps in waiting, phone says I am not subscribed to ITunes match (which I am). Funny how my touch and pad are fine because they could not be updated (IOS 5 still) and yet my phone is messed up. I contated customer support and they are stumped as well. Any suggestions?

Even more strangely, all the albums I have checked in iTunes on my iMac show in "Music" but almost all the songs are greyed out, with a few random ones showing. When synching the iPhone to theiMac a long blue bar indicates that the music is there but it doesn't transfer to the iPhone. The files on the iMac play fine via iTunes on the iMac.
I have done a full "Restore" but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

  • IPhone 5 will not sync music after restore

I just restored my iPhone 5 because I was having a problem with all the data on the phone saying it was in the "Other" category when I was on the summary tab. So I got the backup and everything synced except my music. I've literally tried just about eveything to synce the music. I tried syncing it wirelessly but it won't even connect to my computer. Also the problem with all the data being displayed under the "Other" category is still a problem. Any help?

I have a similar problem. Mine started with iTunes putting multiple versions of the same songs (whole and seemingly random albums) onto my iPod 5, but after trying to remedy that I now cannot sync any music of any sort. It took random songs off and then started getting stuck at the "waiting to apply changes" stage (as apparently many people have seen) and after trying all the things that are supposed to work I now have an iPod that doesn't have any music on it (because a lot of my music was not purchased on iTunes) and won't sync music or finish any other kind of sync.
It seems like the "fixes" discovered so far don't work for everyone.
My iPod is 5th gen running iOS 7.0.4 (but problem started on 7.0.3) with the latest version of iTunes, for reference.

  • HT1391 Why aren't my past purchases showing in iTunes (music) after restore on my iPad??

I "lost" my purchase history on iTunes after a warranty replacement on my iPad.  The store is only showing songs and albums I purchased after I received the New device... I just want to get all the music back I purchased in the last couple years... I must be missing 8 or 9 complete albums and dozens of single songs...

    Hi Kim,
OK, so when you click on the Music tab in your Purchased window, are you then clicking on "All Songs" or "Recent Purchases"? Until you do that, nothing will show up.
My Music tab before I click on All Songs or Recent Purchases:
My Music tab after I click on All Songs:
Hope that is what it is!
    Cheers,

  • Lost apps and music after restoring

I have just restored my iPod because most of the apps were playing up. So I restored it and I synced it and found out that all my apps have gone. I really need help as I had a lot of money worth of appa on my iPod and very very sad please help

Of course they are gone.  You restored your ipod which erase everything.
Certainly you made sure that you had transferred them to itunes on your computer before you restored?
    Just sync them back.
If for some reason you have failed to transfer them before restoring (not wise), then unlike music, you can redownload them.
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store

  • Lost purchased music after restore

I had to do a restore. iTunes said it was backing up my iPhone and then I did the restore based on the backup, but neither my apps or purchased music had been restored. I had a load of music, that I paid for. Is there some where I can go to download all my lost music with out re-paying?

Why is it not in your itunes library? If you purchase any content on your phone, you MUST File>Transfer purchases to get the content into your itunes library. The itunes content sync is ONE WAY: computer to phone. You can re-download purchased apps for free. For the rest of your purchased content, contact itunes support, plead your case, beg...they "may" let you re-download it, but the decision is theirs:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
For future reference: the iphone should NOT be used as a storage device, things can & will happen. If you purchase content on your phone, ALWAYS File>Transfer Purchases as soon as possible. Likewise, your itunes library should be regularly backed up.

  • How do I recover missing music after subscribing to iMatch?

I had 152 songs on my iPhone 5. I recently subscribed to iMatch so I could have access to the music on other Apple devices; iPad, iMac, etc . . . When I turned on iMatch, only 25 songs were available. What happed to my other music and how do I recover the missing song?

Where did the music come from e.g. bought from iTunes, copied from CDs ? You can only upload music to iTunes Match from a computer's iTunes, so if those songs were copied from CDs then were they in your computer's iTunes library when you subscribed to it ?
When you turn on Match on an iOS device you are effectively saying that you want to replace the music that is on that device and use what you have stored in Match instead.

  • No apps or music after restore

I just issued a new iphone 4S per my 1 year factory warranty.  I went to restore it and I have no apps or music, only contacts.  Please help someone.

Your apps, music and other iTunes media should be in your iTunes library on your computer.  Sync your phone with iTunes to transfer it to your phone.

  • Missing music and restoring it

i just lost most of my music on my itunes library. i dont know why! i tried to restore it from the my music folder on my computer and now i had ended up wit lots of duplicates of the same song. i have lost all my playlists and play counts of each song! i still have most of the stuff on my ipod but im afraid to connect it incase it deletes them as well.. please help!

1). If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent your it syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it until you can sort out your library: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Missing music after updating iTunes and iPhone os

After updating to the latest iTunes, I have lost huge amounts of music, and I can't find them on my computer at all. We wanted to install the latest OS on our phones, and to do so, you need the latest itunes version. After intalling the latest itunes, and subsequently the latest software for the iphones, a large amount of the music has disappeared. It has all come off of the iMac (which holds our entire library) and includes a mixture of purchased from two different accounts and songs from CDs that have been imported.
I have tried searching for the files on my computer and they cannot be located. Stranger still, I have Apple's Time Machine and have looked back to before the update, and they aren't there either, which is completely bazaar as they are in the itunes library and we used to listen to them on this computer? Is it possible that the files names have become corrupt and the tracks are there but don't associate with the names?
    Please can anyone help?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
