Missing music files when loading iPod Classic.

I just finished converting all our albums and 45's to MP3 files.  These all list and play fine in iTunes, but when I load the files on our iPod Classic, there are always about 50 songs missing.  I have done this 4 times, and it's not always the same files, but always about the same number of files.  The missing songs are about half missing at the beginning of the list, and half missing at the end of the list.  I have 7455 files in iTunes, but after loading the iPod, there are around 7400 files actually on the iPod.
There is plenty of free space left on the iPod,  The missing files are never the same songs as I try different times.  The files are not corrupted, as they list and play okay in iTunes.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for any help you might give.

"Other" means files that have become corrupt and the iPod no longer knows what to do with them.
The usual procedure is to move (or copy) your iTunes Library from your old computer to the new one. If the computer (or its hard drive) is not available, the procedure is to use the backup of the Library.
I'm guessing that you don't have a backup of your Library. Although your old computer has "died", do you still have the hard drive? If so, you could put the hard drive into a hard drive caddy, use it as an external device and copy the iTunes Library from that onto your new computer. A local computer repair shop should be able to help you with that.
Failing that, you will have to re-build your Library again.
If you purchased music from the iTunes Store, check in your store account to see if your country allows you to download the music (that you purchased) again.
If you purchased digital music from other stores, check with them to see if you can download the songs again. In Amazon UK, you can.
For music that you imported into your iTunes from CDs, you will have to import them again, from the CD.
For the future, I suggest you maintain a backup of your iTunes Library. If you now have an external hard drive in a caddy, use that. Otherwise, buy one, the larger the better.
Also, as you are now finding, an iPod cannot be put back into a new iTunes. Nor is it a backup of your Library. Everything should be in your iTunes Library - and backed up onto an external drive. The iPod is simply a portable "copy" of your Library, only for playing the music.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Music files disappeared from iPod Classic 120GB

    Hi everyone.
Today I tried transferring music from my old iPod Classic (120GB) to my computer. These files were originally stored on another computer that since died, so I wanted to transfer them (backup) to my new laptop.
However, the software crashed, and my iPod now shows "No music".
However, the Settings page talks about 46.4GB used memory on the iPod.
These 46.4GB match the amount of music I had in it.
When I go to Settings > About, in the diagram that represent the space used on my iPod, there is a very small part related to my pictures (these did not get erased from the iPod), and then a very big part (about 2/5 of the total diagram) that says "Other".
I believe this "Other" part is linked to the music that used to be on it, but I do not understand why it doesn't show as "Music" anymore, and why all of my songs seem to have disappeared.
Did anyone encouter the same problem ? Is there any possible explanation/solution ?
I would really appreciate any help anybody can give me.

  • HT1329 I have imported music files on my iPod Classic which I don't have on my old PC as it had less capacity than the iPod. I now have a new PC and want to transfer the music from the iPod to my new PC so that I have back ups. How can I do this?

How do I move music imported from my old CD collection onto my iPod, which I did not retain on my old PC as there was not enough memory. I no longer have all the CDs so cannot import them to my new PC, so want to copy them directly off my iPod Classic to my new PC.
    How do I do that?
    Thanks

You cannot do it (transfer song files from iPod to computer) using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download previous purchases using the iTunes Store Purchased screen).
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can be used to transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer's hard drive, drag them (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window to add them to your new computer's iTunes library.

  • Missing .pdf file when loading template

    Hey everybody,
I just switched from a PC to a Mac and found Pages pretty cool. I'm running the trial and made a few templates based on the business letter template that was included with the pre-installed Pages 2 on my MacBook. When opening my template I end up with a window showing me an error message that the file "businesscircle_logosgray.pdf" is missing. My template then opens up correctly but the error message is showing up every time I open it. When I copy its contents into an empty document and save it to another template it works 2 - 3 times but then I get the same error. The business letter template opens perfectly without any errors.
Is there any way to solve that problem?
    Thank you in advance

    MacBook 13" (black)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

That sounds strange. businesscircle_logosgray.pdf is the spiral image above the word "Company" in the template. I assume you deleted it, when you made your own templates. It is supposed to be a place holder to replace with another image.
I would probably try recreating your new template and keep the image just in case. You could also try creating a new blank template and paste everything from the business template except that image. Hope you manage to sort it out.

  • Can't transfert a MOV file to my iPod Classic (160gb)?

Since upgraded to Apple iTune 7.6.1.9, I can't transfert a MOV (or MP4 or any past compatible file) to my iPod Classic (160)? Does adding AppleTV Take2 movie rental affect the files formats I synch to my iPod? The 1st file was MP4 (H264) but would not play on Quick Time so converted it into MOV and play but would not transfert from Library List to my iPod?
Tried to use my iPod as a hard disk but wasn't successful in doing so (look in Preference for the window but couldn't find it?). Even tempted to wip all data on it and start it back to square 1.
Can I retrograde to my older iTune version? How?
Any help would be welcome! In this form my iPod Classic is almost useless to me!
    Axone89

I've tried repeatedly to import a short video that's on my computer, to my iPod. I know that first I need to get it into the itunes library. I've tried everything to get it there but NOTHINGS WORKING! I've tried Choose File > Add to Library, and locate a file or folder to add; but that doesn't work! I can locate the file, click open, but it doesn't get added.
What format is the video? iTunes and your iPod can only play certain formats, so you may need to use a third-party application to convert the video to a format iTunes can handle.
In iTunes Help, it also says "Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window" but what and where exactly is the "iTunes window"??
The window you see when you first launch iTunes.
I've also tried "consolidate library" but that doesn't work? What is consolidate supposed to do? Why didn't it fix that? How do I add the other almost 200 files?
The Consolidate Library is only useful when you have your iTunes library in two more more locations, all of which iTunes recognizes. It does nothing to add unrecognized tracks to iTunes. You'll have to locate them and drag them into the iTunes window or use the "Add To Library command". Note that iTunes will not play copy-protected Windows Media format, so if any of these missing tracks are ones that were purchased from another download music store and they're not MP3, it's probable that they're copy protected in which case you will not be able to use them in iTunes or on an iPod unless the service from which you bought them allows you to burn the tracks to a standard audio CD.
    Regards.

  • ITunes Match for the iMac - Music Files on an iPod?

I subscribe to iTunes Match and have an iPod Classic 160GB. Is it possible to use iTunes Match for my entire music library on my iMac & iPhone BUT put the actual song files on my iPod Classic? The problem is my music library is large, won't fit on my iMac Flash hard drive and iTunes Match is perfect. But I can't figure out how to get those songs onto my iPod Classic because iTunes Match is enabled on iTunes.
I would like to keep my iTunes library on the iMac using Match and have the physical songs be on the iPod Classic.
I tested this by putting 1 album on the iMac hd. Then syncing the iPod. Then deleting it from iTunes (the cloud icon came back so Match is doing it's thing and I deleted the physical song files). Sync'd again but this time I checked Manually Manage Music & Videos in the iTunes iPod Settings window before hand, thinking that would tell iTunes to not worry that the 1 Who album wasn't physically on my h/d anymore. But it didn't work. It removed the that album from the iPod Classic.
Is this possible and I don't have the correct settings in iTunes or on the iPod? Or is this a limitation of using iTunes Match?

Hey thanks, Jim... Actually I do have a back up of my entire library on an external drive. Is the process just dragging the songs and albums from the Finder (from the external drive backup) onto the iPod when I plug it in to iTunes and they copy over? Is it possible to create new or update existing Playlists with this method? But is key is to never sync the iPod with iTunes or do I need to check Manually Manage Music & Videos?
Or am I looking at this completely wrong. lol

  • Why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

I have a similar problem.  Originally, my iTunes advanced setting was set such that a shortcut to the song was copied into my music library so sometimes copying songs to my iPod resulted in them being grayed out.  I changed that setting some time ago and haven't had the problem until recently.
I don't know what to do.  here's the situation:
         1.  I have a song that is stored on my file system within My Documents. (it was purchased via Amazon)
         2.  Through iTunes I choose the File | Import file to library (or some text like that)
         3.  I navigate to the location of the song
         4.  I import it.
         5.  I can play the tune from the music library or from an internal PC playlist.
         6.  I then attempt to copy the song to my iPod.  When I do, it appears in the iPod's playlist grayed out.
I have done those steps countless times for dozens of songs without a problem.  Even others that I've purchased through Amazon.  What is so different this time?  I should mention that this problem NEVER happens if I buy the song through the iTunes store.  Only if I buy it from another source (e.g. Amazon).  WHY ???

  • Finding files on an iPod Classic that were added from somewhere other than iTunes

I added files onto an iPod Classic from another source other than iTunes, but can't find that file on the iPod, either its not connected self, or when it is in iTunes.
So, how do I go about locating the file without going back INTO iTunes and adding the file into iTunes' library?

  • Backing up music files from 60GB iPod (directly) to an external hard drive

I'm interested in backing up all of the music that's currently stored in my iPod. First off, I suppose it would entail knowing how to locate the music files within the iPod, and then figuring out how to upload.
One step I'd also prefer to avoid is to have to copy my music onto my laptop (to iTunes) and then reroute to the external hard drive. Would it be possible to just route/copy the music directly from iPod to external hard drive? I don't think I have enough memory to house all of my 30gb worth of music all at once on my computer, so if I do end up having to go through the laptop, I'd have to download in batches.
Ultimately, I'm just trying to avoid having to download all of my music files from my CDs again. It took me two months last time, which is way too long an ordeal.
Any help/ tips/ previous threads on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try Yamipod. This is a similar free program which works on both Mac and Windows that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
