Missing numbers in metadata browser under OS X Mavericks & LR5

Every since upgrading to Mavericks my Lightroom metadata browser has had missing numbers.  It used to show the total count of photos that matched the criteria and it no longer does that.  Has anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve it?  It's not really that big of a deal but it is a constant annoyance.  I've attached a screen shot of the issue.

Known bug in LR5 on Mavericks.

Fixed in LR5.3RC which you can download today although the final release is due soon

I run LR5.3RC on Mavericks with no issues yet.

  • Missing metadata browser/panel

The tutorials refer to a metadata panel or browser, on left side of screen. Nothing like that shows in my version. How do I get at it?

In Lightroom 2 the Metadata Browser panel is replaced by the Metadata Filter element of the Library Filter bar, which is located at the top of the thumbnail grid. You need to tap the "\" backslash key to toggle the Library Filter on/off.

  • Application Metadata browser

    See http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=27246:500
Had some free time on my hands so I created this Application Metadata browser application on all the handy APEX_DICTIONARY views.
    1. Each page basically displays the contents of one view with drilldown links to other pages as appropriate
    2. Each page has a Glossary section at the top with the comments for that view from the apex_dictionary view
    3. All pages have the column show/hide functionality to let you see just the columns you need.
    4. The Reports tab tries to highlight potentially unusual situations. I am sure there are many other creative uses of the dictionary views. Ideas welcome.
    5. Clicking on an application on the homepage drills down into recent page views for that application. Optionally, you can even see session state data, but your app's parsing schema needs direct SELECT privilege on flows_nnnnnn.wwv_flow_data. Hopefully the APEX team will add a APEX_SESSION_STATE view in a future release.
If there is interest, I can make an application export available so you can install it in your own workspace and browse your own applications.

    Vikas,
Sorry I'd missed that in your original post and thanks for adding my query! :)
Have you seen what the iAdvise guys are doing on using the APEX views for QA. They are also building an application to do this. They have chosen certain views (or groups as they call them) to check, and then have error codes assigned to each group. (Such as 'APRC-001 = Wrong date format' for incorrect date formats in application report columns).
    Check it out:

  • Some Aperture photos and projects missing from iLife Media Browser

Good evening - having a little bit of trouble getting Aperture to work smoothly with my iLife media browser (i.e., inserting photos into Mail, Pages, Keynote, etc).
I currently have 5699 photos and 131 projects in Aperture. But the iLife Media Browser only shows me 5131 photos and 130 projects; when clicking on individual projects in the browser, anywhere from 3 to 70 photos per project are missing. Tried repairing permissions, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database - this improved the issue, but didn't completely resolve it as 5679 photos now show in the Media Browser, and 20 remain missing. Also tried deleting, and generating previews for all my photos in the library. No change.
My library is mostly referenced, with a few photos managed.
Obviously in the grand scheme of things 20 photos missing in the Media Browser not that big a deal. But wanting to get to the root cause though because without solving this issue, I'm concerned about a larger underlying problem that may only get worse as my library grows.
Has anyone had, or resolved a problem similar to this? And can anyone offer any additional suggestions? Are there any specific files that feed the iLife Media Browser that I can delete and rebuild that may solve this issue?
    thanks,
    Mark

I think I've ironed this out. Several intertwined issues. I took a moment to type out my notes; hopefully it helps you guys solve this quickly if you get a call from someone else on this down the line.
[1] original problem of several hundred items missing in Media Browser: probably an issue of previews not being built. Mostly fixed when I regenerated previews for my library, but repairing permissions and repairing the database may have helped too.
[2] Residual problem of 20 items still missing (5698 items displayed in Aperture when selecting Inspector > Library > Photos; 5677 items displayed in Mail Photo Browser). My issue wasn't as much with 20 missing items in a browser as it was with trying to understand the root cause and whether I had an underlying Aperture, Aperture Library, or OS problem that would bite me later. Turns out several things were causing this problem:
[2a] In Aperture, when you select Inspector > Library > Photos , all your content is displayed: photos, videos, and any audio clips you may have imported (e.g., a recorded audio clip on your camera narrating shoot, location, client, exposure value etc). So even though you've selected "Photos", your "xxx items displayed" count on the bottom of the screen reflects all your imported content. This is not the case in the Media Browser - of which there are two variants in Mac OS:
[2a.1] Mail has a Photo Browser, which behaves much like a "Media Browser Lite: the title bar says "Photo Browser", it only accesses your Aperture and iPhoto Libraries, and only shows photos and video.
[2a.2] iWork applications have a more comprehensive Media Browser, where you can select between Audio, Photos, and Movies. If you select Audio the iWork Media Browser will show any audio files present in your Aperture or iTunes library. If you select Movies, the iWork Media Browser will show any movie clips present in your Aperture or iMovie libraries. Photos behaves the same way as "Photo Browser" in Mail, showing any photos present in your Aperture (or iPhoto if installed) libraries.
Turns out I had three audio clips in my Aperture library. When selecting "Photos" in either the Mail or iWork browsers, the total item count will only show photos and videos - no audio clips. So now 17 missing items remain.
[2b] Stacks - one project contained nine photos grouped into a stack. Only the key photo of a stack is previewed/shown in Media Browser. So a stack of nine photos will only show as one in the browser - unstacking the photo will allow them all to appear. So now nine missing items.
[2c] Seven photographs somehow had broken links to their referenced masters, and needed to be reconnected. Down to two missing items.
[2d] One photo simply wouldn't cooperate - no matter how many times I regenerated the preview, or deleted the preview and then regenerated it, nothing worked. I deleted it from the library and reimported it. One missing item remains.
[2e] Final missing item was a photograph I rejected. Makes sense; as media browser does not display rejects.
Problem solved!! Hopefully this might be of help to somebody in the future.
    cheers,
    Mark

  • Metadata Browser - selected view

I may be missing something, however....
It appears to me that the 'Metadat Browser' only acts on the entire 'Library'. Is it possible to select a folder...or just a selection of images...and have the "Metadata Browser' so the breakdown for just those items?
    thanks...JOHN

Just select all the images you want to change and go to the Menu »Metadata > XMP > Export XMP Metadata to File«. This will create a sidecar (text file) to each of your image files containing all the Metadata Lightroom uses.<br /><br />Now find all those .xmp files with your favourite File Browser (Spotlight on Mac, ??? on Windows) and load them into a text or xml editor that supports batch search and replace with multiple files (I use TextMate on the Mac, I'm not sure what the Windows world has to offer on this).<br /><br />Within those text files you'll find a line like this:<br /><br />   <aux:Lens>EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM</aux:Lens><br /><br />Replace the text as you see fit or create the line just above the aux:ImageNumber entry if no aux:Lens entry exists.<br /><br />Now go back into Lightroom (make sure all the images are still selected) and go to »Metadata > XMP > Import XMP Metadata from File«. Give LR some time to update the Metadata Browser and have fun.<br /><br />Alexander.<br><span style="font-size: small; color: #408080">-- <br>Canon EOS 400D (aka. • Timeshift in Metadata Browser Date

There is some strange time shift occuring between the actual EXIF Date shown and the day the image is listed under the metadata browser, e.g. if I set the capture date to 1.9.2000T00:00.00, the images are listed under 31.8.2000.
    Same happens on year boundaries.

There are Date/Time bugs that Adobe are trying to isolate and fix. They do read this forum, so hopefully this will be added to the info pile on the bugs.

  • Lens Metadata in the Metadata Browser question

    Hi,
I just noticed something peculiar while importing a DNG file converted from a 1D Mark III raw file :
The lens used is reported being an "EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM". The same lens used on a 20D is showed as "70.0-200.0 mm".
Why the difference? Is it because the metadata is taken from a DNG? Because the Mk III reports lens differently?
And now, I have 2 lens data for the same lens in the "Metadata Browser". Do I have a way to move pictures from one lens to the other? Or somehow edit that data?
    Thanks,
    Louis

    >It would be nice if LR had the equivalent of synonyms for this field, and built in so it showed them all as the same.
Problem is that 24-70 might be a Sigma, Canon, Tamron, etc etc. So treating them all the same would be silly.
    >Ideally, you could just click on a couple of lenses and then choose a menu item to inform LR that the entries are in fact for the same lens.
The best solution is one were users can edit this and other similar fields from within the metadata panel. For example, my camera may have © Ian Lyons registered in EXIF but I can already change this to read Ian Lyons, and it will be reflected in both the metadata panel and the metadata browser. Using this approach for the Lens field I could reduce from 40 entries to just 20. With your approach I would still have 40 entries and twice as many clicks to find the same batch of images. No thanks.

  • Data Driven Subscription Missing in Reporting Services Manager under Subcriptions

I am attempting to create my first data driven subscription.
    However, the 'New Data-driven Subscription'
button is missing from my management view under Subscriptions for the report I am using.
I have verified that I have the 'Content Manager' and 'System Administrator' roles associated with my login.  Also, I am running on the necessary Enterprise Edition.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2
Please assist me in troubleshooting this matter as this is the only method I'm aware of for accessing data driven subscriptions.

    Hi ThornDrill,
According to your description, the 'New Data-driven Subscription' button is missing though you install SQL Server Enterprise edition.
In you scenario, it’s possible that you are running a different SKU of Report Server while the SQL Server is Enterprise edition. Please find the first log file within the Reporting Service logs, then search the keyword with “SKU” to find the actual edition
of the report server instance. For more information, please refer to this similar thread:

  • Does iWork '09 Numbers launch for anyone under Yosemite?

iWork '09 Numbers fails to launch under Yosemite.  Suspecting it may be Yosemite related.  iWork '08 Numbers launches and runs ok.  No indications of launch failure in Console.  It just doesn't launch.  This is only important to me because older spreadsheets require opening and saving in iWork '09 Numbers before the new Numbers version under Yosemite can open them.

I finally discovered that I can launch Numbers (iWork '09) (version 2.3) by launching the image internal to the Numbers package (MacOS) in Terminal.  I also discovered that KeyNote shares this same problem but not Pages.
In summary, I cannot launch iWork '09 Numbers or KeyNote via the normal Finder Icon launch.
There are no diagnostics posted to Console when I try the Finder launch, the App just never shows itself nor is it in the running applications list.
Disk Utility shows no permissions issues, and repair shows no issues.  Anyone have any ideas?
I cannot find my iWork '09 install disks but I did a Time Machine restore of Numbers from several years ago but that image exhibits the identical problem.
The iWork '08 apps work just fine under Yosemite.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Tag "Other Categories" in Metadata Browser

Not only I find tag "Other Categories" (as the name imply) very usefull, it allows also multiple values inside -similar to "Keyword" tag.
So why not have it inside Metadata Browser? This would allow more precise searching/selecting of images.
    Bogdan

I did the same thing.  I think what we all have accidentally done was select a dimension that we wanted to hide then went to the properties window to set the Visible property.  What I just noticed is that if you click on on one of the dimensions while on the Cube Structure tab the properties window does not change to the dimension and the Visible property on the cube gets set to false accidentally.  At least that how I ended up doing it.  I hope this helps someone else realize how it happened to them.

  • Find missing numbers in array

    HI !
I have an array which holds 999 different numbers between 1-1000
(which means that 1 number between 1-1000 does not appear in the array).
I need to find the missing number in one pass and it's easy.
    My question is:
Do you have any idea how can I find 2 missing numbers in the array ?
    Is it possible ?
I cant use any data structure and I need to find the missing numbers in one pass.
    Thank you

Using array.sort() and using another array is out of the question as its inhrently banned in the "i cant use any data structure" so this is
    Homework! tut tut
ok so far an array with 1 number missing "its easy" yeah, just add em all up and see whats missing.
for 2 numbers missing you should take a hint from what you are studying in the course ie solving Quadratic Equations..
shall i make snoopy beg yet??
    naw, ok here goes
on your 1 permitted pass add up all the mumbers that are there, also have another total for the squares of the numbers
call the numbers you are looking for A and B
subtract the first total from what it would be if there were all 1000, call this N
subtract the second total from what the total of the squares would be if there were all 1000, call this M
    so..
    A+B=N
solve for B in terms of A
    so..
    B=N-A
    and A^2+B^2=M
    should i quit now???
    no, ok
substitute B in the second equation, shuffle a bit and..
    2A^2-2NA+N^2-M=0
recognise the terms of the quadratic and..
    A=(2N +/- (4N^2-8(N^2-M))^.5)/4
note the +/- plus OR minus will give you 2 results, these will be the 2 missing munbers
    tahh dahh
See maths does have some use

  • Finding Missing Numbers

I want to find missing numbers from a column which is alpha numeric, its last five positions are numeric. At first three positions there are different combinations of alphas i.e. *'BA ','BAW','SA ','SAA' ..........* if alphas are two then 3rd position is blank. I also need it to generalised this to cover all existing alpha numeric series.
    SELECT SUBSTR (a.claim_no, 4, 5) + 1
      FROM core_business.cb_pensioner a
    WHERE SUBSTR (a.claim_no, 1, 3) = 'BA '
       AND NOT EXISTS (
                     SELECT NULL
                       FROM core_business.cb_pensioner b
                      WHERE to_number(SUBSTR (b.claim_no, 4, 5)) =  to_number(SUBSTR (a.claim_no, 4, 5)) + 1)
order by SUBSTR (a.claim_no, 4, 5);I am getting ORA-01722 error

You have two issues with such a task.
Problem 1 is how to convert the trailing part into a number so that you can compare values.
to_number(SUBSTR (b.claim_no, 4, 5)) works, but only if the value in b.claim_no is always a number regardless of the other column criteria.
    A statement like
    WHERE SUBSTR (a.claim_no, 1, 3) = 'BA ' /* filter 1 */
    and to_number(SUBSTR (b.claim_no, 4, 5)) > 1 /* filter 2 */
...might fail because your table might have a value like
    b.claimno = 'XYZ1234b'
The way you wrote the query the database will decide which filter criteria it executes first. It might be filter1, but could also be filter2. If filter2 is executed first then you will get the error message.
Problem 2 how to order and compare different rows, so that you can find the missing values.
Here the analytic LEAD(LAG) function is very helpful. it will give you access to the next (or previous row).
    Both problems can be overcome.
Here is my try, but I'm not sure if it works in your case. You might need to adapt a little.
This should work if all the rows are numeric that belong to the specific groups. if you can have wrong data in there too, then a different approach is needed.
with testdata as (select 'XYZ1234b' claim_no from dual union all
select 'BA 12345' claim_no from dual union all
select 'BA 12346' claim_no from dual union all
select 'BA 12350' claim_no from dual union all
select 'BAW11111' claim_no from dual union all
select 'BAW11113' claim_no from dual union all
                select 'XYZ1234b' claim_no from dual )
/* end of test data creation */
    select claim_no, substr(claim_no, 1,3) part1, substr(claim_no, 4) part2,
           to_number(substr(claim_no, 4)) current_num,
           lead(to_number(substr(claim_no, 4))) over (partition by substr(claim_no, 1,3) order by to_number(substr(claim_no, 4))) next_num,
           lead(to_number(substr(claim_no, 4))) over (partition by substr(claim_no, 1,3) order by to_number(substr(claim_no, 4)))
            - 1 - to_number(substr(claim_no, 4))
            as "missing_values"
    from testdata
    where substr(claim_no, 1,3) in ('BAW','BA ')
    order by claim_no;
    CLAIM_NO PAR PART2 CURRENT_NUM   NEXT_NUM missing_values
    BA 12345 BA  12345       12345      12346              0
    BA 12346 BA  12346       12346      12350              3
    BA 12350 BA  12350       12350
    BAW11111 BAW 11111       11111      11113              1
BAW11113 BAW 11113       11113Problem 1 is solved because the where condition is always executed before the function in the select clause, especially in connection with an analytic function.
Problem 2 is also solved by using the analytic function LEAD function. And this is fast, because you access the same table only one time. Other solution might do a subquery to fetch the value from the previous/next row. This means several accesses to the same table and is usually much slower.

  • Force Metadata Browser to update

When importing from a CF card and copying as DNG, I see the following:
If, after import, I select images and add City, State, Country info, the metadata browser still shows Unknown Country>Unknown State>Unknown City groupings that contain these same images. THe only way to get the Metadata Browser to refresh itself and show the correct status is to relaunch LR. Even a Find using the just entered metadata comes up empty until I relaunch. Is anyone else seeing this?

Just filed it as a bug. Oddly enough, if image selection is made via Find, and you alter any metadata used both in the find criteria and Metadata Browser panel, Meatadata Browser will indeed update. Even with this though, LR takes quite a few seconds to refresh the data, which makes it a bit clunky to work with. Even if LR is not being touted as a full-fledged DAM, the limited features it does have in that regard should work much more seamlessly on the whole.
