Missing oracle.toplink.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerFactoryProvider

I have been trying to use Toplink 11G with Spring 2.5 and when I wire it up according to the Oracle JPA/Toplink article I get a class not found error. When I look at the toplink.jar the EntityManagerFactoryProvider its looking for its not there but the oracle.toplink.internal.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerFactoryProvider exists instead.
When I look at the toplink.jar shipped with jdeveloper 11 TP2 the EntityManagerFactoryProvider is there. Am I missing a jar?

TopLink Essentials was intended to be a JPA implementation that offered most of what was needed by an average application that needed ORM. It was a pared down version derived from TopLink code and was never intended to include full TopLink functionality.
The official plan of record (not just my opinion) is that both TopLink and EclipseLink will be shipped in 11g, but in future releases the TopLink product will be composed of the EclipseLink code base plus some server integration code.
I don't know what the rules are with your client, but a) Oracle is the lead of the EclipseLink project and b) Oracle will be shipping it in 11g, so my personal opinion is that you should be able to consider it part of the Oracle stack.
As an open source project the usual kinds of support will be available (forums, etc.) but assuming that your client has an Oracle support contract then I would guess (personal opinion again) that if they are using 11g then they would also be entitled to official support on the version of EclipseLink that is shipped with 11g, anyway.
In the end you should check with your client but if they (or you) have any questions then they (or you) can always contact us for clarification.

  • Remove related entity, oracle.toplink.essentials.indirection.IndirectList

    I have two entities autogenerated by the jdev 10.1.3.1 JPA wizard, Proveedor(codprov varchar2 PK) having n Lineas(codprov varchar2 PK, Codline varchar2 PK) related as:
    in entity Proveedor:
    private List<Linea> lineas;
    @OneToMany(mappedBy="proveedor")
    public List<Linea> getLineas() {
    return lineas;
    public Linea removeLinea(Linea linea) {
    System.out.println(" is at:" + getLineas().indexOf(linea));
    getLineas().remove(linea);
    linea.setProveedor(null);
    return linea;
    in Linea:
    @Id
    @ManyToOne
    @JoinColumn(name="CODPROV", referencedColumnName="CODPROV")
    public Proveedor getProveedor() {
    return proveedor;
    the delete method on the service bean is :
    public void delLinea( String codprov,String codline){
    EntityManager em = jpaResourceBean.getEntityManager();
    try{
    em.getTransaction().begin();
    Linea linea = em.find(Linea.class, new LineaPK(codprov, codline));
    em.remove(linea);
    em.getTransaction().commit();
    linea.getProveedor().removeLinea(linea);
    finally {
    em.close();
    when i try to remove the entity linea calling delLinea on the service bean
    the List (oracle.toplink.essentials.indirection.IndirectList) is NOT removing the entity linea, the system output show that is not there:
         06/08/30 16:59:23 is at:-1
    the relationship is not lost, as linea.getProveedor().removeLinea(linea); works so it's being held ok (at least from Linea to Proveedor)
    what i'm doing wrong, is IndirectList is mantaining copies of the related entities ??

    thank you, after reading your reply i tried this:
    public void delLinea( String codprov,String codline){
    EntityManager em = jpaResourceBean.getEntityManager();
    try{
    em.getTransaction().begin();
    Linea linea = em.find(Linea.class, new LineaPK(codprov, codline));
    linea.getProveedor().removeLinea(linea);
    em.remove(linea);
    em.getTransaction().commit();
    finally {
    em.close();
    As you advised, I'm reading the Proveedor in the transaction and clearing the relation before removing the entity Linea, but em.getTransaction().commit() throws:

  • How to verify OC4J uses Oracle Toplink 10.x and not Toplink Essentials

    Hi,
    We dont want to use the default JPA provider "Toplink *Essentials*" that comes with OC4J. Rather we want to use Oracle Toplink 10.x
    I downloaded [Oracle Toplink 10.x|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/1013topsoft.html] and followed the installation instructions:- http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/10131/install/install.html#CHDBBIFB
    When i deploy my EJB 3.0 appliation and invoke a JPA Entity, i can see the server log:- NOTIFICATION TopLink, version: Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0.1 (Build b09d-fcs (12/06/2007))
    Do i have to do any other configuration/setting to ensure that i use Oracle Toplink and not Toplink Essentials in OC4J?
    Thanks in Advance,

    rashant,
    Hi, there are currently the following providers to choose from - you may want to consult your rep for any details on moving from 10.1.3.4 to 10.1.3.5.
    1) TopLink or EclipseLink using EclipseLink JPA - the RI for JPA for WebLogic, OC4J and GlassFish
    - EclipseLink JPA is focus of all current JPA development as part of EclipseLink and TopLink
    2) Another open-source JPA implementation like OpenJPA or Hibernate
    Deprecated:
    3) TopLink using TopLink JPA - replaced by (1) TopLink using EclipseLink JPA
    4) TopLink using TopLink Essentials JPA - replaced by (1) TopLink using EclipseLink JPA
    Changes to server.xml as follows:
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/OC4J_Web_Tutorial#Modify_server.xml
    <shared-library name="oracle.persistence" version="1.0" library-compatible="true">
              <code-source path="../../../eclipselink/eclipselink.jar"/>
              <code-source path="../../../eclipselink/javax.persistence_*.jar"/>
              <import-shared-library name="oracle.jdbc"/>
         </shared-library>
    Changes to persistence.xml as follows: (container-managed JTA datasource)
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/OC4J_Web_Tutorial#Persistence.xml
    <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd">

    <property name="eclipselink.logging.level" value="FINEST"/>
    </properties>
    </persistence-unit>
    </persistence>
    You should see output similar to the following in your server log:

  • Annotations missing from toplink.jar

    The download of Toplink 11g includes the toplink.jar along with a few other jar files and a source .zip file. The toplink.jar does not include the oracle.toplink.annotations package which is necessary to use the @Convert and @Converter annotations for working with datatypes Toplink does not already understand. These classes are included in the source distribution. Am I missing something? Do I need to build the jar file from source to get the annotations package or is this available in another jar file?
    Thanks,
    Scott Akins

    The TopLink 11g release has a toplink.jar which delivers native ORM/OXM/EIS functionality focused on backwards compatibility with previous releases (uses the oracle.toplink.* packaging).
    The release also includes the EclipseLink libraries where all of the annotation support is delivered focused on implementing JPA with annotations and extended XML configuration. If you want to use JPA and our advanced annotations you should be using the included EclipseLink library.

  • Oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.ValidationException

    Hi,
    In my EJB 3 application we added a Schema entity to our already existing Student entity.
    I added the followning code in the student entity:
    @OneToOne(cascade = CascadeType.ALL)
    @JoinColumn(
              nullable = true,
              name = "SCHEMA_ID"
    private Schema schema;
    After adding the Schema enity I tried to compile and run the tests. I got the following toplink error message (roughly):
    nternal Exception: Exception [TOPLINK-7250] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0 (Build b41-beta2 (03/30/2007))): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.ValidationException
    Exception Description: [class se.myapp.subsytem.alpha.Student] uses a non-entity [class se.myapp.subsytem.domain.Schema] as target entity in the relationship attribute [private e.myapp.subsytem.domain.Schema].
    I found out that I had to change the persistence.xml but not why?
    I would be very happy if someone could shed some light in this matter since I have no clue why I must put it in the persistence.xml
    cheers,
    //mike

    You must either annotate every Entity with the @Entity annotation, or map it through the ORM.xml. All Entities must also define an @Id annotation.

  • Oracle.toplink.internal.helper.NonSynchronizedVector exception

    I get following exception when invoking session bean from EJB client generated by JDev (EJB JPA project). Session bean returns the list of value objects created using TopLink Essentials based JPA native query. Does anybody know what is causing this exception and if there is a workaround?
    java.lang.ClassCastException: oracle.toplink.internal.helper.NonSynchronizedVector
    List<ProfileBasicVO> profiles = searchFacade.queryBasicProfilesByLastName( partialName );
    I get exception at this point:
    for( ProfileBasicVO profile: profiles ) {
    System.out.println( "lastName = " + profile.getLastName() );
    ...

    I changed the code to return List and I added mapping as a second parameter:
    public List queryBasicProfilesByLastName(String partialName) {
    Query basicProfileQuery =em.createNativeQuery( "findBasicProfilesByLastName", "BasicProfileResults" );
    return basicProfileQuery.getResultList();
    It fails with following exception:
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: SQL string is not QueryError Code: 17128
    and the query is defined as
    <query>
    select o.last_name as LAST_NAME,

    o.middle_name as MIDDLE_NAME,

    from offenders o,
    person_bookings b,
    person_physical_attributes a
    where o.PERSON_ID = b.PERSON_ID
    and b.PERSON_BOOK_ID = a.PERSON_BOOK_ID
    and o.last_name = 'POTTER'
    </query>
    Mapping is defined as:
    <sql-result-set-mapping name="BasicProfileResults">
    <entity-result entity-class="entities.Persons">
    <field-result column="LAST_NAME" name="lastName"/>
    <field-result column="FIRST_NAME" name="firstName"/>
    <field-result column="MIDDLE_NAME" name="middleName"/>
    <field-result column="BIRTH_DATE" name="birthDate"/>
    <field-result column="SEX_CODE" name="sexCode"/>
    <field-result column="PERSON_ID" name="personId"/>
    </entity-result>
    <entity-result entity-class="entities.PersonPhysicalAttributes">
    <field-result column="HEIGHT_CM" name="heightCm"/>
    <field-result column="WEIGHT_KG" name="weightKg"/>
    </entity-result>
    </sql-result-set-mapping>
    I can execute the query manually without problem, i.e. it is valid query, but I still get exception

  • Does TopLink 10g generate toplink-ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?

    Also, does it have the ability to deploy an EJB JAR to an app server of choice?
    Thanks in advance.

    TopLink's Mapping Workbench will generate the toplink-ejb-jar.xml file for use in CMP and will augment the base ejb-jar.xml file.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10464_04/web.904/b10313/pkg_depl.htm#1132804
    TopLink does not generate the container specific file for WebLogic. More details available at:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10464_04/web.904/b10313/pkg_depl.htm#1124592
    TopLink does not include any deployment capabilities. This is the roll of yor IDE or scripts.

  • TopLink on WebLogic or oracle.toplink.PersistenceProvider

    Hy.
    I have applied patch 5KXF to add toplink 11g on WebLogic 10.3.
    Now, in BEA_HOME\patch_wls1030\patch_jars\ there is toplink.jar.
    But how can I use it?
    Inside toplink.jar there is file META-INF\services\META-INF\services\javax.persistence.spi.PersistenceProvider.
    I assume that content of this file is the name of the implementation class.
    It is "oracle.toplink.PersistenceProvider".
    But when I put this name in persistence.xml and try to deploy my EAR, this message appears

    One thing more .... In the filesistem I can't find class oracle.toplink.PersistenceProvider.
    On the other hand it is OK to put

    Miroslav,
    You may be interested in the latest release of Oracle WebLogic Server.
    See the recent OTN post from 20110115 detailing the latest release of Oracle WebLogic Server and some retesting of the previous issues related to JSR-317 JPA 2.0 support below.
    11g Release 1 Patch Set 3 (WLS 10.3.4)
    The latest release of Oracle WebLogic Server has been available on OTN at the following location since 20110115.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html
    This release provides support for JSR-317 JPA 2.0 container managed applications using the QWG8 patch or a manual prepending classpath change.
    In 10.3.3.0 you were required to use the FilteringClassLoader via the *<wls:prefer-application-packages>* addition to your application managed persistence unit - this workaround as well as the persistence.xml renaming one is now fully deprecated and not required in 10.3.4.0 for both application and container managed persistence contexts.
    As of 20110115 the 5 outstanding issues below look to be fixed by applying the http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/e13720/using_toplink.htm#EJBAD1309 patch for QWG8 or manually prepending to the WebLogic 10.3.4.0 server classpath.

    set BEA_HOME=C:\opt\wls1034r20110115
    @rem Enable JPA 2.0 functionality on WebLogic Server 10.3.4 with the following patch line for commEnv.cmd:67
    set PRE_CLASSPATH=%BEA_HOME%\modules\javax.persistence_1.0.0.0_2-0-0.jar;%BEA_HOME%\modules\com.oracle.jpa2support_1.0.0.0_2-0.jar
    A JPA 2.0 EE application using EclipseLink as the JPA2 persistence provider on WebLogic is detailed in the analysis section below1) JPA 2.0 XSD parsing - verified
    2) New JPA 2.0 schema elements like <shared-cache-mode>NONE</shared-cache-mode> - verified
    3) JPA 2.0 runtime API like a entityManager.getMetamodel(); call on the Servlet or Stateless session bean - verified
    4) JPA 2.0 weaving/instrumentation - this will require a more detailed lazy model and more debugging to fully verify
    5) Dependency Injection of a container managed JPA 2.0 entityManager on a EJB component like a stateless session bean - verified

  • Oracle.toplink errors, but no toplink installed? (10G, SRDemo)

    Hello, I installed the Chapter 4 SRDemo on my machine, and I am receiving an error. (at bottom)
    However, I am able to connect to the database without any problems, have been using the same database connection for over a month, but wanted to trying doing the EJBs and following the SRDemo tutorial.
    This locks my account, so it is using the correct account name (Which is not the same as the default from the demo)
    What is really confusing me is the references to TopLink everwhere. I do not have TopLink installed. When I try to debug when I step into the line where the error is thrown it tells me "Unable to find source file for package oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions, filename TopLinkException.java.
    Here is the error I receive on running the ServiceRequestFacadeClientEmbed.java in the SRDemo:

    Hi Viral,
    We did software loadbalancing for testing purpose and it did work with 9.0.3.In production environments you may need to consider Hardware Loadbalancer.
    The following link may give you some insight.

  • When Oracle TopLink will have a certified JPA compliant implementation?

    FAQ at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/jpa/resources/faq.html#4
    says: "Applications developed against TopLink Essentials using JPA will run on Oracle TopLink when its JPA implementation is certified as compliant."
    10.1.3.1.0 Release note at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/10131/relnotes/rel_notes.htm says: "The TopLink 10g (10.1.3.1.0) supports all but a small subset of the functionality specified in the EJB 3.0 specification."
    I cannot find details about "small subset" not supported.
    Would be nice to have an article about how to use JPA standard API with proprietary TopLink and then how look like the code that need to use the proprietary TopLink extension in some cases.

    Our upcoming Oracle TopLink 11 release has JPA compliance and a rich set of extensions as one of its primary goals. This will make the full functionality of TopLink available through JPA including custom annotations and the ability to integrated TopLink's existing XML.
    This release will be previewed soon allowing you early access to this functionality. This full JPA with extensions functionality is also what we will be contributing to the Eclipse Java Persistence Platform Project (EclipseLink)

  • Where do I find toplink-ejb-jar.xml?

    I've been trying to run the examples I downloaded with TopLink 10g as I'm trying to migrate to TopLink 10 for Weblogic 8.1 from TopLink 3.6 for Weblogic 6.1 and I can't find the toplink-ejb-jar.xml file that is referenced in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file in the <type-storage> tag. I have looked for it in all samples dir (weblogic 6.1, 7.0 and 8.1) with no luck.
    Are they missing from the samples? I have looked at the Ant's build.xml file and it seems the file should be with all the rest of the .xml files conforming the "config" of the EJBs
    I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious but I'm stucked on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ignacio.

    Founded it. In case someone face the same problem here is the "solution":
    It is "copied and renamed" from the resources/WLS81CMP20SingleBeanTopLink.xml file

  • Toplink-ejb-jar.xml config with weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

    Hello,
    To use toplink with EJB's deployed in Weblogic.
    I changed weblogic-ejb-jar.xml :
    (Because, it does not allow me to change <type-identifier> and <type-version> elements)
    <type-identifier>WebLogic_CMP_RDBMS</type-identifier>
    <type-version>7.0</type-version>
    <type-storage>META-INF/toplink-ejb-jar.xml</type-storage>
    Here, is the toplink-ejb-jar.xml:
    (Because, I am asked to give PUBLIC value for Weblogic 8.1.0....)
    <!DOCTYPE toplink-ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//BEA Systems, Inc.//DTD WebLogic 8.1.0 EJB RDBMS Persistence//EN" "file://D:/Toplink10g/toplink/config/dtds/toplink-wls-ejb-jar_10_0_3.dtd">
    <toplink-ejb-jar>
    <session>
    <name>myUniqueSession</name>
    <project-xml>META-INF/project.xml</project-xml>
    <login>
    <connection-pool>demoPool</connection-pool>
    </login>
    </session>
    </toplink-ejb-jar>
    1. I have also given full path to the "toplink-wls-ejb-jar_10_0_3.dtd", but I still get parsing error:
    "myBeans.jar": [EJB:011019]While reading META-INF/toplink-ejb-jar.xml, the persistence layer of the Entity EJB failed to deploy. The error was:
    "myBeans.jar": Error in descriptor line 5: Error parsing file at line: 5 column: 18. Element type "toplink-ejb-jar" must be declared..
    2. Also, How I can avoid the full path to the DTD???
    Thanks for your help in this regard!

    You are not properly configured to use TopLink with Weblogic. You need to place the TopLink_CMP_Descriptor.xml install file in your Weblogic lib/persistence directory. Add "TopLink_CMP_Descriptor.xml" to your persistence.install file and then update weblogic-ejb-jar.xml to reference the correct TopLink persistence type and versions, ie,
    <type-identifier>TopLink_CMP_2_0</type-identifier>
    <type-version>10</type-version>
    <type-storage>META-INF/toplink-ejb-jar.xml</type-storage>
    See the TopLink developer guide for more information and configuration details.

  • Anything fixed in Oracle TopLink 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.1.0) ?

    Was there anything fixed in Oracle TopLink 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.1.0) ?
    I don't see anything in release notes ( http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/11110/relnotes/toplink-relnotes.html ) regarding fixes. Anybody know where I can get that info? We have run into a couple of issues in the previous 11g release (11.1.1.0.1) and want to know if those issues have been addressed in the new release.
    Thanks!

    The two major areas of work in 11gR1 (11.1.1.1.0) are enhancements to EclipseLink included with the its 1.1.1 release as well as enhancements around TopLink Grid (JPA-Coherence integration).
    The EclipseLink 1.1.1 fixes are documented here: http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Release/1.1.1
