Missing OS X Lion Gestures

I recently took my laptop into the Apple Store for a faulty logic board. They replaced at no cost but when I got it back I noticed my double-tap to move wasn't working. I also noticed that tapping on the trackpad didn't work either. I had to use the button again (this is an old MacBook with the now-old-school long button along the bottom of the trackpad).
Went into System Preferences and enabled "Tap to Click" but for whatever reason that didn't re-enabled my ability to double-tap on a window (for example) and move it. I'm not busted down to using the button again.
A minor inconvenience but I liked not having to use the button. The constant clicking of the button is annyoning.
I also noticed that I don't have the ability to do a three-finger drag either. My question is, is there anyway to enable the same gestures that are on newer Macs? I have most everything like four-finger LaunchPad, three-finger swiping between full-screen apps and so on. Why can't I move a window with three-fingers or double-tap to move?
Anyone?

Aha, now I get it. Just the new three finger tap'n'hold for doing what one finger tap-tap'n'hold did before is missing. That is strange. I can not see any reason for this since it is no more complex than any other three or four finger thing.
Even if you would have some hack installed the System Preference wouldn't lack such an isolated feature. But, isn't this the genious guys are in the AppStore for? I'm Swedish and we don't have any AppStore here so I might miss something but my impression of what has been said about the geniouses are that they provide support of the more general knowledge seeking type of questions?. That is you do not need a support deal like AppleCare or a new Mac to put them on the task to answer such things as why is three fingers t'n'h missing but non of the other?
I use a late 2008 Unibody 13" MacBook (non pro) and it has the large glass trackpad and have the threefinger thing implemented as one would expect. I prefered the one finger double tap and hold since three finger take a bit of space and this is a guesture were you move your finger over the trackpad area. One finger reach further since it really can go edge to edge on the track pad and gives a feeling of being more precise since if your thre fingers are changing their distance between each other, which point is overriding the others? But all in all it works ok.
Perhaps you have a bug going on, and you just would need to find the right 'defaults' parameter to set? Your preferences files might shed a light on this? Those are the ones ending with .plist and is located in ~/Library/Preferences/ or the system wide settings are stored in /Library/Preferences and the 'man defaults' terminal command gives you a command line tool to use to set these values.

  • My iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2.  I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each one upon reinstalling the backup copy? Thank you for help

Almost my iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2. (the last 2.5 weeks worth of added music has transferred post-upgrade, none of whcih was bought from iTunes)
I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each playlist upon reinstalling the backup copy? This would save a HUGE amount of time and efforts. Thank you for your help!

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Lion Gesture Cheat Sheet

I just wanted to share this sheet with new users to Lion who are confused and/or frusttrated. I printed this sheet out and had it on my desk for a few days until I got the hang of it. Now Im absolutrely loving this Lion upgrade, it's amazing to use, esp. with a magic trackpad!

A suggestion: Please mention the oracle version numbers where these commands are applicable.

  • Slide bar in Finder missing in Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and am not terribly happy with some of the small changes.
Is the slide bar that changes the size of the file icons in Finder missing in Mountain Lion?
I do not like the pinch and expand thing, never used it, but would quite frequently use the small slide bar at the bottom right.
I know I can change them permanently via Finder/View/Show View Options, but that's a pain too...such a simple thing and they got rid of it?
I can tell these things are done by young people with good eyesite!

Well, I don't know what I did, was just in the "Finder/View/Show View Options" and in Icon view, and now it's working...Hm. Never mind...

  • Are Lion gestures a significant improvment over Trackpad+Snowleopard

I have a magic trackpad with snow leopard for my iMac. The trackpad is brilliant and allows me to use gestures. Does Lion add significantly to that experience (mainly, the use of gestures)? I will eventually upgrade but I was wondering if I am missing out big time in the meanwhile.

Nevermind. A lttile digging and find out that the Magic Mouse has a limited set of multi-touch capabilities:

It appears the Magic Trackpad has the full set of capabilities:

  • Missing Feature in Lion: Expose for all Windows

    Hello!
I've written a feedback to apple, that says it all:
    =================================================
Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) there was one Feature removed,
which was a very important time saver for me:
    Expose for all Windows
I'm missing this feature very much. In Mission Control you only see one window completly of every app, the other window are hidden behind. You can't entirely see, what is in that windows behind. There isn't a text Info when you float the mouse pointer over the window.
In Mac OS X 10.6. (Snow Leopard) I loved this time saving feature. I would be so happy and grateful, if this feature were to resurface in Mac OS X 10.8. (Mountain Lion).
Please let "Expose all Windows" return! :-)
    =================================================
What do you think about it? Should / Could Expose return in the next Mac OS X? (I hope so)
    Greetings from Germany,
    Matthias B.

    Hello Rysz and Captfred!
    Rysz:
I already have send this to Apple feedback.
    Captfred:
    There are two problems:
    1. I want to see all windows of all applications at once.
    2. Even the windows seperate a little bit, there are (even with only three Windows) most parts of the windows hidden because of the front window shown.
    Greetings,
    Matthias B.

  • My Magic Trackpad won't do all the Lion gestures.

I can do Swipe between pages and Show Desktop and Launchpad, but not Mission Control or App Expose.  All gestures work on the MB Air 13, but not on the Magic Trackpad.  Any ideas?

I have a similar problem. The zooming  in/out does not work, or is very slow on my iMac 2010.
In preferences all is checked. The swiping of pages is not working.
And comparing with my iPad, the gestures on on my magic trackpad are very poor indeed!
    Not what I expected.

btw: the spelling corrector in this reply is not working, so excuse my spelling and grammar.
Could this be caused by Lion?

  • Info bar at bottom of window missing in Mountain Lion

I have a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard installed and at the bottom of finder windows, such as the Macintosh HD window, there is a bar which shows how much space is left on hard drive and also how many files/folders are selected. On my Macbook pro with Mountain Lion this bar is missing and I can't seem to get it show at all. Is this a feature of Mountain Lion as I found the info bar very useful?
    Thanks
    Peter

That's the status bar, hidden in OS X Lion and Mountain Lion by default. To show it, open a Finder window and go to View menu (on the menu bar) > Show Status Bar, so it will show up at the bottom of the Finder window

  • Missing Files after Lion Upgrade

After upgrading to Lion I am missing files from a folder named "printers" I had created.  The previous os used a "printer" folder but not "printers".  It seems as if the Lion operating system deleted the existing folder and placed new files in there. I've searched the computer after enabling hidden files to no avail.  Any ideas as to how to recover the files?
    Thanks

Where had you put that folder?
If in the top-level System or Library folder, that's why; those were replaced by the Lion installer, since we mere mortals are not supposed to fool with them.
Restore it from your backups, but put it somewhere else; either in a user home folder or the special Shared user folder.

  • Iphoto, imovie, iweb missing after mountain lion upgrade...

I have a mid 2010 iMac that I have kept up to date and recently upgraded to Mountian Lion.  Everything has been fine except that I noticed that iLife was missing right after the update...  And I didn't purchase it in the app store because it came with my iMac.  In fact, the iMac came with Snow Leopard on it I think. But I haven't the slightest idea where that disk is because we lost a few things that I haven't located yet in our move last year.  I have another copy of Snow Leopard that I goes to my 2009 MacBook that I already had.  It seems quite frustrating that the programs just disappeared and they've never done that before on any other upgrade!  I have no need to purchase and upgrade to iLife 11 as I only use iPhoto and iMovie for iPhone photos/video because I have everything else in LightRoom already.  But I would like iPhoto/iMovie back!  How do I go about doing this?  Can i use my backup to get it back somehow?  Just confused on how to tget it back and my searches yielded very little...  Thanks!

sorry...  i meant '09 version...  I just knew it wasn't '11 (assumed '09) because I haven't upgraded to the '11 versions.  I said iLife because I lost all 3-iphoto, iweb and imovie.  Well, I see that iweb isn't a part of '11 and is going away and i am just now seeing that.  And noticing that I lost GarageBand in addition (i just don't use it to notice it was also missing after the upgrade).
And again, they all came installed on my computer, not from me purchasing it via app store.  Technically I guess it wasn't a part of the OS, I just meant that it came with the imac and was part of my imac purchase.  I only remember having an install disk (not a seperate ilife disk) that came with my imac but i am unable to find any of it because of a move (and haven't located the disks that came with the 2010 iMac).  Again, I have the snow leopard os upgrade disk that I purchased (prior to buying my imac in 2010) that I bought to upgrade my 2009 MacBook Pro.  But again, it isn't the SL install disk that came with the 2010 iMac (which is the computer we are discussing here)  However, my 2009 MacBookPro was upgraded to ML right after I upgraded the iMac on the same exact dayand I DID NOT lose iphoto, iweb, imovie and garageband on that MacBook Pro.  And it was the 09' also because I had not upgraded either computer to '11 version.  So, the programs went missing on the imac upgrade only, and not the macbook-so there has to be a reason why...  I did not mean that iLife came with an OS Upgrade -only that it came with all purchased apple computers. sorry!
Sberman-I will try to load the iphoto link that you gave above and see if it restores the iphoto and my catalog, etc. Someone I know suggested that it's all still there - but i am just missing the iphoto programs (and other programs) for some reason and all should be restored once it's reloaded.

  • Desktop files missing after Mountain Lion update.

    Hi All,
I work in a research lab at a University, and we ran an update on one of our lab computers [previously on 10.7.4]. Upon updating the OS to Mountain Lion, all of my files were fine, with the exception of the files on the desktop.
On the HD, there was the newly selected user name [BlankenshipLab], and the old username, which said [JB(deleted)]. I could look into the (deleted) folder, and see subfolders for Desktop, Documents, Movies, etc., etc. But, I couldn't access them, as it said I didn't have permissions. As such, I rooted the new user, and I used the sudo chown -R blankshiplab:staff /Users/JB/Desktop. I used this command on all other subvolumes. When I gained access, the desktop folder, was empty, however. There were old files in the documents and downloads folder that weren't there before, either.
If anyone could help us recover the missing files, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Best,

Hi no real idea on this, but many Network connectivity issues have been solved by this...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • "trash" and "on my mac" folders missing after Mountain lion upgrade.

Since I installed the upgrade Mountain Lion there are missing folders as above in Mail. Can I get them back?

On line recovery after Erase as I wanted to clear all the accumulated junk from my full HDD. I did a backup on my Time Machine first but wanted to just restore the needed items and not all the accumulated junk so I rejected the full restore from Time Machine option during the restore process. Now I cannot access Time Machine in the normal way all the backups before today are not accessible.
With Apple Support help I managed to access the backup files on the time machine but we have been unable to find the On My Mac mailbox and all the folders it contains. They said they would call me back with a solution but nothing so far.
    Thanks for your help

  • Raid slice missing on mountain lion works fine in snow leopard

I am running fiber from a adtx raid directly in 2 machines one running snow leopard the other running Mountain lion.
on the mountain lion machine, when i go to disk utlity i only see one of the raid drives and the other one says missing.  However when i use the snow leopard
maching i see the raid fine and it works correctly.  We are using the same fiber channel cards and we use sanmp to mount the drives.

Your problem is that your old HD is no longer blessed. if you can, connect both drives at  the smae time, then
First, open the “Startup Disk” preference pane and select “Mac OS X” as the operating system to boot. This will re-bless your Mac OS X volume on the older install.
No need to delete or zero the drive at all.

  • Lion Gesture Problems and Gesture Bugs...

The back gesture (return to previous page) doesn't work in finder and in other apps that aren't safari. Also, when the app expose feature is turned on it is very buggy - doesn't show all the windows that are open, but only shows the one that is on top. All these bugs found only after 10 min... argh... not a good start.

    Hey there..
Even I experienced the same issues. But these are not issues if u look closely. The Expose feature in Lion is called "App Expose". This is an expose just for the apps running in the foreground. In case u have multiple pages of finder or chrome. The app Expose will show only windows of the selected app.
Actually the earlier Expose feature used in Snow Leopard has been upgraded to "Mission Control" which is actually kinda stupid (Sorry). I can't fast switch between apps like i used to in Snow Leopard.
And for the back/front gesture. U need to enable "Use two or three fingers for back/forward in pages" This way u can use the three fingured back/forward gesture in Finder, Chrome, Safari. The two fingered back/front pages is to switch between pages (which again is stupid, since u already have three fingered for that). It can be demonstrated in Safari. Open google. Search something random and click on any result and keep loading 4 to 5 pages. Then use three fingered gesture to normally go back and forth between pages. Now when u use two fingered back/front it does the same but with "different animation" So basically the two fingered pages is just a pepped up useless version of the existing three fingered gesture.
Also the bug which I found was that. The three fingered back/forth does not work in system preferences unless u do a two fingered back/forth gesture once.
Anyways really wish they add the Expose function of Snow leopard. Also the "show desktop" gesture of three fingers with the thumb is really annoying. The four fingered hide feature minus the thumb was so much useful. Everytime I need to use my thumb for this now. Please fix this apple or atleast give us the option to choose our own gestures.
