Missing out on features with bridge?

Hello,
I've got a Time Capsule setup in bridge mode, working alongside my Billion Wifi Router from my ISP. I was quite lucky *touch wood* when I got it, it seemed to just set itself up and automatically synced with the Billion. The billion router is set to: PPPoA/PPPoE mode, and the Time Capsule to Bridge Mode.
However, I've noticed that the wireless range of the Time Capsule isn't as good as I thought, pre-purchase. We live in an 85sq.m apartment (so relatively small compared to a house) and often if I'm in the main bedroom (as the crow flies, perhaps 15m, maybe 20m), file transfers between TC and my MBA will almost grind to a hault, and any files downloading slow right now. Any hope of streaming videos in the main bedroom from TC to MBA is out, I normally copy the file from TC to MBA in the living room, then watch from local MBA HD in the bedroom. If I walk slowly back towards the TC they all start to pick up again. An obvious solution would be to move the TC to a different phone socket in the apartment, perhaps in the middle of the apartment, but sadly they don't work and Thai ISP's don't fix any extension sockets, only the main one.
Should I actually switch my Billion router's wireless to 'OFF'? Could this be causing signal problems? I only left it on in case the TC went down, I'd be able to quickly switch to the BIllion without having to visit 192.168.1.1. Would this help? I also read on here that when in bridge mode, you can't use the Guest Network feature - my solution was to have any 'easier' password on the Billion router, for friends to connect to when they come round, plus they wouldn't be able to access TC files. To do this though, I'll need to leave the Billion's wireless on.
Next, I have the firewall of my Billion router turned off since it causes problems, and the firewall of my MBA, on. Does TC have a firewall built in? Or only if it's NOT in bridge mode? I'd also at some point like to try and setup port forwarding for using torrent clients, as sometimes I'm not connectable.
In summary:
Billion wireless set to 'off', to help improve TC signal? If yes, then I can't use the Billion for when friends come round, so...
How to switch on Guest Network? The version of Airport Utility sites recommend is 5.6 I think, but I tried to install and it said my OS 10.8.2 doesn't support it.
Firewall and security question + possible port forwarding setup.
Any other reasons/features I should know about, which should mean I move to a different mode, other than bridge?
Thank you

What model is the billion.. is it G or N wireless??
You can use both wireless by setting the wireless channels.. say channel 1 for billion and 11 or 13 (I think Thailand uses Euro value).. for TC.
But you are right ... the TC is far from powerful wireless.. and you will gain nothing by using it as router cf bridge mode.
If you can run ethernet from the billion to somewhere in the centre of the house that would be excellent.. or use EOP adapters which should be available there in Thailand.
Then you can set the system to roaming setup..
Same wireless name and security and password as the billion.. but lock it to a different channel. ie as above but with identical names.
TC has no firewall in ipv4.. why there is access in v6 I don't know.
The billion has too powerful a setting for the lowest value. But NAT is equivalent and does much the same job for you.

You can only switch on the guest wireless with the TC in router mode.
You can install 5.6 utility by the following trick.
Download the 5.6 utility... or locate it in your downloads..
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Open the dmg so you can see the pkg. Do not start it.
Download unpkg. and install and run it.
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Drag the airport uitlity over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory on the desktop.. AirPortUtility56 .. drill down to application, utilities.. and there.. lo and behold.. is the real tool utility.. start it from there or drag it to your main utilities directory..

    That is awesome, works perfectly.
I'll get it worked into my main script. Is this Action Manager code, and not just regular Javascript from the Scripting Dictionary? I can't tell the difference. I'll see whether or not it's actually faster than Applescript.
Thanks. I know Scripting Listener records a bunch of stuff, but it's pretty amazing to me that playing back this line does the same thing that playing back the 1,011 lines Scripting Listener puts out.
    Thanks.

I like the mail feature with one exception; I cannot figure out how to change the font size of incoming mail permanently.  And, when answering an email I have to highlight the first few words and zoom it so I can see what I am writing.  what am I missing?

You can type the email using what you set in preferences and then highlight the text and use command - minus sign (or command - + for larger) to reduce the size of the text.
You can also type command - T and a window will appear allowing you to select fonts/sizes/color/ background highlight.
The above works in Notes also. I haven't tried to do this in any other Apple application.
For incoming emails, you can use the above to reduce font size, but I don't know of a way to permanently set the incoming font size to a default.

  • Am I missing out with 98SE?

So am I missing out on XP, or does 98SE still squeeze all of the speed and functionality that XP gets? I just dont like XP much - its too non-involved for the user. I'm someone who likes the backup of the command prompt, and who has some old games and programs that he'd like to use still, but I've heard of so many problems with old software I thought I wouldnt bother. Now I am having so many problems with this new delta lsr I'm wondering if it was never designed to work with 98. That said, surely it should work with both? Didnt think mobos were 'platform aimed'

I have both Win98SE (on IDE1) and WinXP Professional SP1 (on RAID-0 array) on my dual-boot machine at home, and Win2000 Professional at work.  I can't say anything at all about WinXP Home Edition, other than it's a stripped-down version of the Professional version.  Maybe XP Home is not as good as the Pro version as a result...?
I can't say I've encountered any major operational differences between Win2000 Pro and WinXP Pro, other than the fancy default interface on WinXP Pro (I've since changed it to the older Win2000 style interface, which I like better).  Both have been more than stable for over a year.  No real big differences here, other than increased PnP ability of WinXP Pro.  Both have been extremely stable.
My work PC and notebook both have Win2000 Professional, and have been absolutely stable 8 hours a day.  However, since they're not my PC's, no hardware tweaking has been done.
At home, I have been running WinXP Pro SP1 for 13 months now with absolutely no hint of an OS-related problem.  In fact, when I installed WinXP Pro SP1, my MB was a K7T266Pro2-RU with a Palomino 1800+.  I did the C37 mod to allow running a 2400+ Tbred on this MB, and that didn't faze WinXP Pro one bit.
After a while, the X7T266Pro2-RU wouldn't run my 2400+ at 133fsb anymore, no matter what I tried.  I looked for a MB replacement, and settled on the K3T-Ultra2-R, because it was the last MSI board I could find that featured a Promise RAID controller that still had TWO additional IDE ports.  I swapped in the new MB, hooked up my existing RAID-0 array, inserted the WinXP Pro CD, and "repaired" the existing WinXP installation on the array to account for the changed MB.  WinXP Pro handled it like a champ!  After it was done, all my old settings and applications were still intact.  However, all Windows Updates/Patches had to be reapplied, since the OS repair wipes those out.  Regardless, it went quite smooth, and it's still operating stable as ever.
IMHO, you can't go bad with either Win2000 Pro or WinXP Pro.

  • Just finished update. While in the Tips, why did it tell me I have an old version? Hey there! Looks like you're using an old version of Firefox. Don't miss out on the latest technology & security features. Get the free upgrade in less than a minute.

The top of the screen has an owl like icon & then the following message:

Dear Colbabomb; thankyou for your links.
So far, I looked at your first solution, Revo Uninstaller and it gives you a 30 free trial. Ergo, it will eventually cost money so I'm leery of using those kinds of programs in general, meaning most "free trials" have unwanted strings attached and often are big probs to get rid of later. Perhaps you can assure me that it is easy and very user friendly, before I proceed. And I already ran malwarebytes and it found nothing tho the program still can't be uninstalled. I downloaded Adw Cleaner and during the install, my Norton's security popped up and warned that there were (low risk) threats with two of their "other offers" and i hadn't even actually clicked to agree either of them. Nonetheless, Norton warned me against the "lyrics finder" and "deal ply." In fact, there was a box already with an x in it, saying that you are accepting deal ply if you x on "next." Well, except I unchecked that box before clicking on next, yet when it went to fully install, it still showed that it was adding itself; so, just before the install was 100% completed, I had to abort the whole thing. I really do hope your other suggestions are programs that you personally know that they don't try and trick you. But right now, I would not suggest Adw Cleaner to anyone. I even read the fine print about what they will try and install and how to decline and it still tried sticking stuff on that i believed I had declined. Anyways, i have to leave now, shall pick up later this evening, if my pc is still functioning.

I have adobe reader 8 & cannot change to adobe reader X1.Is it OK to stay with 8? Am I missing out?

The latest versions of Reader have many improvements, including advanced security features. And, why can't you change that old version? Have you tried this?
Use this tool to remove all traces of all versions of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Not shooting anamorphic with my Panasonic DVX 100B. Am I missing out?

    Hello All,
I have a Panasonic DVX 100B that I shoot 4:3 ratio with letterbox. I use a .7 wide angle lens adaptor. Am I missing out by not shooting anamorphic?
    DG

studio X has the answer. The ONLY difference between 4:3 and 16:9 is the frame. What are you framing and how do you want your frame to look? If you shoot 4:3 and you are trying to get a full mountain scape for instance, you'll need to zoom out further and contain more sky and foreground in order to get the full mountain range. If you shoot 16:9, you'll have a wider range, with less above and below the subject. (Of course this is just one example...) You are only missing what you want to show your audience.
Sitcoms, for instance, would not benefit as much from 16:9 because in humor you want to keep the audience attention on the main action of the screen. Too much around that lessens the blow of the punchline. But in a drama or action, the area surrounding your main action is just as important when creating mood or tension.

  • Organizing image library with Bridge

Hi! I'm new to the Adobe Forums but very experienced online. I need some help with Bridge.
I've been tasked with cleaning up an existing image library of (currently) ~40,000 images. I have another batch of ~8,000 files I'll be adding later. I'm using Bridge CC on Windows 7. I don't have access to Lightroom, haven't used Bridge much since CS3, and use Aperture as my DAM at home, so I'm re-discovering how things work.
We have numerous, not well-organized folders with many duplicates, retouched versions, multiple sizes, etc. I want to be able to search, delete duplicates manually, and move remaining files into a new folder structure. I'm also assigning labels and adding copyright/ownership metadata.
I'm having a couple of problems using the Edit->Find command.
When I've run Find and built a list, then do any editing operation like delete files, the Find command starts over instead of retaining the existing results. This is obviously time-consuming and throws me out of whatever set of images I'm trying to manage. Is there a way to use the Find results and NOT have Bridge start the search over?
I also need a way to search with both AND and OR operators. Example: Find JPEG or TIFF or Photoshop or Camera RAW images and filename foo. I can't use specific criteria to narrow my search, so I'm getting a huge set of results. This takes forever, eats RAM, and my first issue makes it impossible to do any editing.
I'd also appreciate any tips or suggestions to make this job easier.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
    Dave

I'm not sure why that functionality isn't just built into a better Find command? Adobe?
As this is a user to user forum you are not addressing Adobe here, you need to use the Feature request site from Photoshop Family for this:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/
Also be aware that you have very specific needs and while Bridge can be a very powerful tool for organizing files it s not that very good for archiving in long term with large numbers of files. ideally you should use a combination of Bridge and a real dedicated DAM (digital asset management) application like Canto Cumulus (can be costly for custom build solutions but has also a single user version at a reasonable price) Canto can find duplicates by itself and has the option to build customized queries for searching.
You also have Extensis Portfolio and some other reasonable cheap solutions you could take a look at. However, for the ideal DAM you need a custom build one that sadly comes also with a price

  • Sharing PSE7 Organizer keywords with Bridge?

I want to share my existing PSE7 Organizer keywords with Bridge. I searched the forums and found an some answers to use PSE7's "File/Write Keyword Tag and Properties Info to Photo" menu option. I did some tests with that option, and it appears to only do what I'll refer to as "additive writes," meaning it will add keywords in PSE7 Organizer for a particular photo, but it will not remove any keywords which are presently in the photo file but not in Organizer's informaton for the same photo file.
I'm guessing this is the case because PSE7 Organizer cannot assume the keyboard already in the file originally came from Organizer itself, or that the user (regardless of where an existing keyword came from) wants to remove a keyword if it's not in Organizer for the same file. It would be nice if there were a preferences option which one could select such as "Replace all keywords when writing to file" so that a user like myself could make Organizer's keywords the main keywords.
Does anyone happen to know if I understand this correctly, or is there a way to remove a PSE7 Organizer-written keyword from a file (based on its non-existence in PSE7 Organizer for the same file)?
If there is no way around this, I'm wondering if it may be better to do things the Bridge-way (which seems more like the general standard) since it seems to always keep the current info in the file, so the state is always with the file itself. Even if some features are missing, it may be better than dealing with this sort of PSE7-only feature. Any comments on this would be great to hear.
Thanks for any insight on this,
    Tom

Okay, that makes sense on the Albums. I wasn't aware that Albums were ordered.
I was using Bridge some more after my post yesterday, and I was seeing that with PSE7, both Albums and Keyword items seem more readily accessible regardless of location of the items (photo files) because there isn't an extensive file system search required since the DB provides a quick search (assuming first-searches and no pre-existing caching in Bridge).
I started testing Collections with Bridge, and realized that it was sort-of doing that. This is another aspect of Bridge which is sort of a "db" aspect of Bridge in that it requires the browser to persist data seperate from the photo file. .
What can be a little frustrating about any browser-persisted informaton (such as that for Collections) is to not find anything in the docs about how to ensure one gets a good backup of that info. PSE7 does a great job of providing a feature to do just that. Recall this is one thing I really liked about PSE7 when I was unaware of the benefits of Bridge's "minimalist db" approach (where a "db" in Bridge is anything persisted by itself such as Collections).
The "how to" backup app-persisted information (aside from docs a user saves, where the user knows the location) is a must for any pro-am or pro person, if not an end user. People don't want information that is key to something they're building over time to be persisted in some mysterious unknown location. I couldn't find what I wanted in Bridge docs, so I did my own hunting, and found Bridge Collection information hiding in "%APPDATA%\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Collections" (i.e., c:\Users\<user_name>\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Collections" on my laptop) in files named "<collection_name>.filelist". But even with that info, I, as a user, would still have to test to ensure I could get a backup good enough for disaster recovery / restoration. I'm a relatively technical user so I cannot imagine what "Dad" or "Mom" would do. This sort of thing is bothersome only because it's remedied with at least a small paragraph in the docs. What would it take to say "Backing Up Bridge Information: If you have a backup program which backs up the "%APPDATA%\Adobe\Bridge CS4" you will have all necessary data to restore the information that Bridge maintains. You must ensure you backup your photo files..." etc. etc. Without that, I have to do a bunch of hunting and testing.
All that said, I see how Collections, maintained by Bridge, offer some of that PSE7 power where you don't have to search for files in various locations to find what is already noted in a central Bridge file or "db" such as a Collection for which Bridge has a list of files in the Collection itself. (If Collections could contain other Collections, that would be a nice touch. I didn't see that ability.)
What I still like about Bridge's approach is that while Albums don't exist, and while Collections are hierarchical, there's a feeling that Bridge is not taking things over where you are forced to use that app. It persists some items relating to its organizational features, but keeps the rest of the info right in the photo file. Still a nice balance. Another nice thing about this minimalist approach is that there's no importing per se. Everything is browseable/maintainable since the file system is the photo db.
All that said, I can see where PSE7 does things for the non-power user such that they can just use, say, an Album, which has a familiar name, and behaves like an Album with ordering and whatnot. A user like me doesn't need that since I can use tools to create an Album like effect, so the Bridge approach wins since I can fend for myself in areas were I don't see PSE7 to hand hold.

  • Can MSI/otherPEOPLE RESPOND to MISSING "ATA PASSWORD" FEATURE IN BIOS (SECUR) ??

    Hello people,
Can you please answer following ?:
Note: I can fix anything (Engineer & x-Tech here), so rarely (if ever) ask for help, but one problem is really killing me with Desktop Motherboards:
    I purchased your:
    ProductName#: "Motherboard P67A-G45 (B3)", specific Part# 911-7673-030;
Part# not important b/c problem covers many Desktop Boards.
    ===
Let me first state the Question/Problem (short), then go onto Explanation (lengthy):
MSI-SUPPLIED "BIOS" IS MISSING ABILITY TO SET "ATA PASSWORD".
IS THERE SOLUTION AVAILABLE or COMING UP; and FOR ALL PEOPLE or if not, COULD I GET ONE IN PRIVATE (might even pay a reasonable fee for modifying BIOS!) ?
    ==========
    Explanation:
You may call P67A-G45 (B3) a "Consumer" Motherboard, but in reality we're using it for business (here).
Please assure your Technical knowledge is deep enough b/c to avoid bloating message, I provide minimum explanation for a subject some Sales folks keep confusing with another (people who use cheap computers, have no clue BIOS/PowerOn password has NO relation to Harddisk/ATA Password - so would help if an engineer or technically-inclined customers/enthusiasts respond to following:
If you use computers for serious business rather than "pictures, music" or similar waste alone; you are likely using either or both protections:
    a) Encryption (Software or Hardware types) and/or
    b) Harddisk aka "ATA Password" (been part of ATA Command Set since mid 1990's, powerusers know).  The term "Harddisk" here is interchangeable with SSD Drives (new SSD's e.g. Intel320series, are ATA Password compliant just like conventional/spinning harddisks).
I know all about Encryption and it is NOT the subject of this email, in some cases we cannot use Encryption to full extent (e.g. FDE [Full Disk Encryption] in a form of BitLocker, TrueCrypt, PGP, etc.), or we can't use it for the entire Harddisk/SSD, or it has tobe combined with ATA Password anyway.  Self-encrypting/Built-in AES storage like new SSD's from Intel (Intel320) or some WesternDigital harddrives (SED - Self Encrypting Drive) are also not an option.  Too long to explain, just please accept this fact.
All I am asking to please answer WHY "ATA Password" feature (security) is missing in BIOS and HOW to get it back, either for everyone or can I pay a small $fee to get BIOS modified?
    =====
    Explanation - Detailed:
ATA Password can be set in most business/hi-end laptops & some desktops BIOS's simply because they don't hide such functionality; cheaper/consumer machines hide it to deny 'idi0t-customers' [who only use computers for entertainment], though manufacturers like Intel , *P, *ell, *enovo/*BM or *sus may offer also on consumer models.  Too bad for MSI you might be losing sales for professional/business applications b/c as an example (my MSI Board part# P67A-G45 (B3) is a good choice for business use (we are using in medium-power CAD workstation, after installing nVidia 560 GTX Fermi).
Your board part# P67A-G45 (B3) actually doesn't have a BIOS, it's using UEFI - but I don't care how you call it now, we just need "ATA Password"
    function restored.
    By the way:
Even though UEFI may sound like a new great thing, it lacks what we TECHNICAL people expected in BIOS, so it's as "good" as Windows is "better"
than Linux, now it's missing some important feature.
Remember I politely asked for Technically-inclined people to respond, which Sales folks often are NOT.  They keep confusing ATA/Harddisk Password with other passwords - usually PowerOn/BIOS/Supervisor passwords present in most even "cheapo" computers - but completely unrelated & worthless (it can be
reset by kids in minutes)!  P67A-G45 (B3) does have that password (PowerOn and/or BIOS-style access), but it has no relation to "ATA password.
No professional takes "PowerOn" or "BIOS" password(s) seriously - it is a joke which can be defeated in minutes (even by kids).  I promised not to explain much, but let me say this much:
Your data is on a storage device, if a Thief steals your Harddrive/SSD & plugs into another computer/controller board ==> you're DEAD if ATA Password was not setup.  Doesn't mean ATA Password is hard to crack, but it is a real strong protection against moderately violent attack.  Ultimate protection is Encryption, but like I said I am contacting you to give us back "ATA Password".
Encryption is NOT the subject of this Message.
The missing ability to set Harddisk/ATApassword (also applies to MSI Mobo with SSDdrive attached, instead of Harddisk) is giving us a headache, in fact I can manage every technical problem but not missing feature in BIOS/UEFI.  Because hacking BIOS and/or using third-party ATA/Harddrive hacktools is very risky and so many people have ruined their hardware, not to mention that life is short and we are not going to spend it searching for some "Hacktools" to bypass BIOS.
    >======>
Security is one gaping hole with desktop Motherboards.
In addition to hi-end desktops, in laptops I personally started using Harddisk/ATA Passwords back in mid 1990's in *BM *hinkpads (*BM was first to implementATA "Security Xtension" added into ATA Standard in mid 1990's); later they were renamed as Lenovo, also I used Asus even consumer laptops offered ATA password!; now for business we're using "HP Elitebooks"; but this same ATA Password feature in Desktops is a pain.  Some manufacturers forget it.  MSI did not include ATA Password in this Motherboard:
    Product# P67A-G45 [B3 version], Part# 911-7673-030;
Can you please JUST FIX IT at least for part# P67A-G45 (B3) PLEASE, we need it so badly I can even pay a reasonable fee.
I can't transform everything here to use Encryption FDE, even if I could I still prefer having that stupid ATA password
    ================>
    Thanks if you can answer?
    Max S.

contacting MSI Technical Support is way you should try out first. Whatever I say will not keep other users from responding. So, please, try to relax a little.
I did.  They said at this time official response is to not change BIOS.  That's why based on experience I found this User Forum, some of the best solutions come from users who venture outside of standard canned response you might get from tech Support for one (1) board.
If I were some company buying 300 Motherboards, of course MSI might attempt a custom BIOS.
But the feature I am talking about is so straightforward basic, almost all business laptops (at least my EliteBooks now, and *sus, *enovo, *ell in the past) had iit.  It is usually (wrongly) called "Harddisk Password".  First time I had it in 1998 in *BM *hinkpad.
Makes stealing your harddisk difficult!  I keep industrial drawings + Banks/creditcards/emails on this harddisk attached to MSI Mobo.
If stolen, I will need a gun to shoot myself.  FDE (Encryption) is one solution, but for reasons too long to explain need ATA password.
OK so I will wait  alittle more in case someone did activate it.
    P.S. I am not  a gamer.  But I am a player.

  • Have i miss out on loads in order to get back at LP9?

Since i last left doing music like Three and a half years ago moving back to Jamaica in getting my career off the ground, so far it has been mayhem however i am still hanging in there, bless all you L.P. genius.
Bee Jay, Jim, steve, john, Noepqlease and of course Ischartz Jord and to all whom help over the years of Blay-Zay development with L.P.
I miss not being here in the forum like for real though.
On the real, have i miss out on loads in L.P. or updates as i just started to update my system today, so are there any updates that has been at fault in looking for?
And any major changes to look for?

    welcome back mon!
Logic 9 has not evolved beyond all recognition, but there have been some important 'under the hood' improvements. I too have had to cater to different needs for the past few years, so my logic knowhow is maybe not as cutting edge (if it ever was :p).
As far as I am concerned, one of the major improvements is the FLEX audio feature.
I suggest viewing the short videos featured on the following page.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content?

Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content? By anyone, I mean someone who can download and use the free Adobe Reader, on either a Mac or PC. I have Acrobat Pro, and would like to be able to create forms that can not only be filled out and printed, but saved and emailed, which is not an option with the forms I have created to date. They can be filled out, but not saved, with Adobe Reader.
    TIA,
    Nancy

To do what Dave indicated you need to do, it depends on what version of Acrobat you have:
Acrobat 8: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader
Acrobat 9: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
Acrobat 10: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
Acrobat 11: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)
I wonder what it will be next time?

  • I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:
