Missing Pages file in /Library/ Application Support

Hello, I want to import new templates into Pages but (unlike my Keynote app), there is no sign of a Pages system folder either in /Library/ Application Support/ or via a search in Spotlight. Where is this likely to be - the software works so it must be nested somewhere?
Stuart

Hello Pixelpics,
if there are no folders "<YourHD>/Users/<YourAccount>/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates", create them. And in "Templates" you have to create folders not only for organisation purposes. If you copy templates directly into "Templates", Pages won't find the copied templates.
Make sure you are working with the newest versions (Pages 1.0.2, Keynote 2.0.2).
Frank.

  • Missing Address Book Folder in Application Support

I've been having problems with my Address Book for a long time, now. Ever since my friend accidentally synced his iPhone with my computer and merged all our contacts. I had gone in and deleted the contacts, but the program has been buggy. As it stands, there are 0 Cards in my Address Book.
I loaded the BETA for Face Time for Mac to see how it worked, knowing that I had nothing in my Address Book. Or so I thought. The BETA application pulled names from way back when my friend had all his contacts on my computer, and my old ones, but they aren't around!!
I started looking around for what could be wrong, and realised the folder for Address Book in the Application Support folder is missing (i.e. ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book/)... What do I do?
    Please help.

Thanks for the "helpful" star feedback.

Is there an option for us non-Time Machine users?
I am getting an external hard-drive this winter, but I don't have one yet. So a solution other than that is ideal.
    (1) Instead of Time Machine, you could restore your contacts from other backups you use. Moreover, there is no requirement for the backup files to be on a hard drive.
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Even if you do not backup your entire startup disk, you will want backups of any important, expensive, or irreplaceable files plus those shown in this Apple article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8771.html
    (2) If you have no backup, the only way I know to get your Address Book contact info back is to recreate it.
As soon as you re-enter your Address Book info, use the Address Book > File > Export... > Address Book Archive... menu command to create an archive.
The archive can be used to restore your data should the problem occur again. Rather than recreating the entire Address Book database, you can restore the archive and will then need to recreate only the changes since the archive was created.
Typical Address Book archives are only a few megabytes, so, in addition to keeping a copy in your Documents folder, you can save an extra copy on another computer, writable CD or DVD, or even Flash (jump) drive. To safeguard against loss due to hard disk crash, it is vital that you keep your principal backup/archive somewhere other than your startup disk. I think you can see that more than one copy on more than one media is a good idea.
I am slow on the keyboard, so I recreate my archive monthly in addition to Time Machine and the other backups I keep.

  • User/Library/Application Support folder empty

I had to hard restart because of a frozen screen. Could not force anything to quit. iWeb was open at the time. On restart, my iweb came up asking for a Domain account as though there was never one created.
I checked my home folder/Library/Application Support - it is completely empty! Nada! What the hey?! I pulled a Domain.sites.2 file from an external drive and clicked it, and it started fine (from my last save point several days ago).
I opened "Backup.app" and it opened in default mode as though I had never set up a backup. Only yesterday morning it had automatically backed up my Home Folder and my Personal Settings - now nothing?
I clicked on the most recent iLife backup file on external - it would not open. Ditto with the last Home Folder backup file. Ran Permissions and it corrected a Library file, but that didn't help.
reset PRAM (two bells) still no files. LIbrary/Application Support is completely empty. Any ideas.

It sounds like some Hard Disk Corruption.
    First see if this happenned...
Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107854
Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup. Safe Boot is a special way to start Mac OS X 10.2 or later when troubleshooting.

  • Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites"

I was working on iWeb today, doing the usual adding pictures, and gave a few pages some color, and a few pictures here and there.
I restart my computer, because as usual, I almost have no memory left. When the computer is running again, I opened iWeb, and I get this odd message:
    Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites"
Why is this here? I didn't do anything weird to trigger such message. The site was working perfectly fine! I tried taking the domain file to the desktop, then opening it once iWeb launches from there, and same message appears. I put it back to its place, and tried putting the iWeb plist on the desktop, and same deal!
Everything is back in its place, I haven't changed or triggered anything to deserve this. I ran Onyx, full optimization update. I restarted computer, and conducted a full disk permission repairs. Only 1 error found out of another app.
My computer is healthy, my programs are running fine. What is going on? Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    Hi
Whaow 3.1GB. I'm sure iWeb has problems with that. I have the same problem with my iWeb. I have about 100 BLOG pages with a lot of pictures. Although iWeb scales the pictures when publishing (good!) it does not scale them when they are stored in the domains file/dir (bad!) So if you have an 8MP camera, this adds up after a while.
You can open the comains file and try to figure out what causes the trouble. (Right click/CTRL click, open content) sort on size to see if you have some extremely large stuff in there (Movies???) Take them out and try to make them smaller.
    Good luck!!

  • Can't open file "~Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2" from a backup

I've done my home work on this one. I'm trying to recover the Domain.sites2 files from a backup on to an OS 10.6.8 with iWeb 3.0.4. It allows me to create a new site perfectly but I followed these instructions at iwebformusicians including deleting the .plist preferences file, restarting and running DU/Fix Permissions, running BatChmod based on this suggestion, and even deleting the .plist files from the Domain.sites2 package based on this suggestion. I also tried DomainCracker based on the tips at iwebformusicians since there are 2 domains in the sites2 file.
At a loss here. I still have all the web pages in the Sites folder. What are my options? Is the file really corrupt?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Iweb installed on a new computer but i have this error message: Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2."

I have just installed ilife on my  new computer from my disk. I have several backups of my webpage from my  old computer. Everything would be great if I could just run the program. When I click the icon for iWeb I get the following message:  Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”
Somebody please help! I desperately need to update my website.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2."

    Hello,
I have been using iWeb for over a year and I have a lot of my work on it. But for some reason, when I went to open iWeb, I get the error message:
    +Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”+
Does anyone know how I can fix this and make sure my content doesn't get deleted?
    Thank You!

Deleting the preference file does not affect the domain.sites2 file. If it's not in the default folder or has a name other than domain.sites2 then that's why iWeb couldn't find and open it. Find it and double-click on it to open it with iWeb 2. You do have a backup copy the domain file, right? If not download and use frequently the Automator application that Varkgirl created. You can get it at Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site.

  • MIssing folder Library/Application Support/iCal folder

Hope this is in the correct discussion!
This folder is missing from my MBP. On Time Machine, I can't find it and have gone back to March 2012 when TM starts.
Does it create itself and what data would it hold?
I've lost all my iCal calendars and have a back up at 18/7/12. I've restored Library/Calendars but the entries don't show up in iCal. I'm told I need to restore Library/Application Support/iCal folder, but it's not there.
I've created a current entry (in a new calendar) but still no Library/Application Support/iCal folder.
Should I be trying to create it manually, somehow I don't think so?
    Thanks for any help.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Themes/ as the path.

  • Getting error Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2." when trying to open iWeb?

I recently had to replace my harddrive a few months back and tried to open my iWeb to update my website.  When I click to open it, I get "Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”  I uploaded iLife again but that didn't seem to help.

Did you confirm that you have a Domain.sites2 file in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder?  If so double click on it to try to open with iWeb.  If that doesn't work try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home()/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

  • Share files from the Library/Application Support folder between user accounts?

I am using Mac OS 10.10.2, and am having trouble with allowing my son's user account to see his Minecraft files which are on my user account (User/Library/Application Support/Minecraft)   how do I make it so that Minecraft will find and use these files rather than the empty folder on his own user account?
    thanks!

Thank you! I should have thought of that. So, what I actually did was go into finder, "get info" on the Minecraft folder, and check the "share folder" box in the info window.  I was then able to open his saved worlds on his account, and doing it this way will mean any changes to them can be accessed from my account as well.
    Thanks again!

  • Too many "Library/Application Support" folders ?

be gentle - i'm an absolute MAC newbie ...
my daughter has been happily using photoshop (Adobe Creative Suite 2) on a PowerBook G4 for nearly a year (OS X 10.4.8).
recently photoshop has stopped working. when it launches, it comes up with two error messages:
"One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."
"An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
also GarageBand complains that "... the Instrument Library is invalid. GarageBand expects a valid Instrument Library folder in /Library/Application Support/Garageband. Please choose a valid instrument Library folder or quit and re-install GarageBand."
so it seems there's some confusion on this system about the "Application Support" folder(s)
after a bit of googling i tried some uninstalls and reinstalls of CS2, but got the same result.
as i was doing some backing up of user data before launching in to the Disk Utility (to do some stuff advised by Apple support), i found three "Library" folders which have an "Application Support" subfolder:
    1. /Library (which seems to be where shared/common bits of apps install)
    2. /Users/<user>/Library (which seems to be where user specific bits of apps install)
    3. /Kate/Library (i can't imagine why this is there!)
this last one intrigues me. the contents of /Kate is exclusively user data files except a subfolder named "Library". i wonder if it's been accidently dragged/copied there - and if it was, what damage that might do ?
how many "Application Support" folders would normally be on a system where everything (I think) has been installed with default settings ?
    TIA
    Paul

The first line of defense when a system has a problem is to VERIFY the boot drive, then repair it from single user mode or your emergency boot drive (not an older DVD).
When I am working on a project, I do a smart update of my backup sets every AM first thing. Two or three sets should work, a rotating set of two for daily, one for weekly, and even a monthly backup. And always a working backup of the system, plus one that is never touched that is used only for emergencies AND one that has the prior OS version (such as 10.4.7 in case I run across something that doesn't seem to work I can test it on a clean system clone, or the older version).
Doing backups just gets into your blood after being around computers for decades and doing some beta testing or just running into the normal gottcha and glitches that come to visit.
There are tutorials, ebooks (MacFixit posted one to subscribers yesterday that covers the basics of troubleshooting), "Missing Manual" series... Apple's MacHelp 101 and of course, Google.
Because there are multiple errors it would seem that a folder or more is missing, moved, or the directory (index) for the drive is at fault. Even if Disk Utility doesn't find a problem, Disk Warrior might. The backup + erase + clean install and restore is the surest way (and shortest often times). Even after "fixing" a problem, I don't fully trust that there aren't corrupt files or something so I like to restore from a clean backup, and lacking that, clean install.
Which is why when you do have the system reinstalled and working, backup (a disk image is fine and can be small system only or as large as needed) to another disk drive so you can restore and have backup and emergency when needed.
Before updating your system, make sure to backup the system, that it works, and use it to repair your normal boot drive before applying an update or installing software. The combined updaters are large but excellent mini-OS reinstall and good to have on hand. Sometimes those small software updates don't go well for some reason but rerunning the combined update does - IF there aren't any pre-existing problems!
If you or your daughter wants easy access to a folder or file, just create an alias and put it where it will be handy, that is the normal supported method. Leave folders where they are.
Instead of creating a new account, you could also rename the home "Preferences" folder, reboot and let the system create a new folder.
