Missing partition after re-installing windows 8

Laptop: Dell Latitude E5530
OS: Windows 8
Problem: The laptop went into the dreaded Automatic repair loop and after trying all suggestions I found online, I gave up and resorted to re-installing. Before the re-install my laptop had 2 partitions (C and D).
To re-install, I inserted the recovery DVD and used the Dell tool to do a re-install with the option to recover my data. All went well. However when the computer boots the D drive is not visible under My computer. It is visible under Disk Management but
I cant do anything to it. When I right click it the menu only give me a help option. When I boot from a Linux USB stick, I can view and access data on both partitions.
I need to access the D drive on windows what should I do? Thanks

It is possible to revert the protections on the recovery partition to allow access to it, however if your notebook is under warranty I recommend you contact Dell technical support. It may be that fiddling with the recovery partition may void your warranty
unless directed to by a Dell representative.

Beats audio software missing after I installed windows 8.1
    my laptop: HP pavilion p011sv

    Hi @Boukou ,
    Thank you for your  inquiry.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 you no longer have the Beats Audio software.
You should be able to download an updated audio driver from HP Pavilion 15-p011sv Software & Drivers page .
This should reinstall your Beats software.
    Good Luck!

  • URGENT: I lost the Lion Partition after repairing the Windows 7 partition

URGENT: I lost the Lion Partition after repairing the Windows 7 partition
I have recent bought a new Macbook Pro and then I start doing all the necessary setup. This is the first time I do such setup with bootcamp myself anyway.
1st: normal MacOS setup, the Lion version has been setup perfectly.
2nd: run the bootcamp and setup the Windows 7, done perfectly as well.
3rd: try to partition and resize the harddrive with the Lion installed and create 2 new FAT partitions (now 4 partitions in total: 1 for Lion, Journaled, 1 for Windows 7 in NTFS, 2 for file sharing purposes in FAT). See if I can have better partitioning to do necessary organisations.
4th: When I want to restart in Windows to see if the newly created 2 FAT partitions can be read in Windows environment and can function norally, the Windows setup does not show at the start up page when I hold the "Option" key during the startup. I then try to restart again, still no such partition but boot directly to Lion.
5th: I tried to repair the Windows 7 with the start up disc and then it worked. I can also see the 2 newly partitioned FAT drive work normally.
6th: When I want to restart in Lion, I cannot boot the Lion OS and I cannot find the start up icon on the startup page even with me holding the "Option" Key.
7th: "MacOS Installation Utility" appears. I tried to repair but cannot as I have neither the Lion setup disc with me (coz the Lion has been pre-installed) nor a time machine backup/ any other backup image to load from.
8th: Tried to "erase and install a new copy of Lion", the partition where the Lion has been previously installed cannot be shown, now indicate itself as "freespace" and not able to be selected for my "erase and reinstall" process.
9th: so I go to 2 other FAT drives to do as the instructions to try "erase" and hope the "reinstall" process can be started. But the Disk Utility ends up saying the drive cannot be dismounted/ cannot verfy...
At the end of the many tries, I tried to shut the computer down and restart again, hopefully something will work still.... the startup page now shows a disk image with ?, I guess NO OPERATION system/ drive detected for booting. So I got a piece of metals without any use now...
    Anybody help? Thanks alot!!

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • "Ghostly Partition" after un-installing Boot Camp

I used Boot Camp Assistant to delete the Boot Camp partition in which I had Window 7. I did it after re-installing Windows 7 in a Virtual Machine in Parallels. Although Boot Camp Assistant erased the partition, it couldn't return the Mac HD to a single full-size drive ---If fact, it couldn't finish the job; it got stuck, so I had to force quit---. Now my Mac HD size is equal to the physical HDD capacity less the size of the partition in which Boot Camp was. In Drive Utilities, a rectangle shows in grey the area used by Mac HDD, which is considerably lower than the full rectangle. The differece is in white. I seems like a "ghostly partition".  Any advise?

Thanks Mende1, Probably I misread the chart, but definetively my Mac HD size has shrunk after unistalling Boot Camp. Here is the image I mentioned in my first post:

Yes you will need to install the apple drivers for win vista. When you boot from a cold start, have you tried holding down the option key to choose which OS to boot from? If you have then, you could try going into startup options from the mac side and choose win vista if it appears. That could be risky though, as you mentioned you do not have the mac install disk. If problems arise you may need the mac install disk to undo the changes.

  • Missing Disk Partition after Yosemite Install (invalid sector size)

Right off the install, my exFAT partition on my MBP is missing. Thought it was not mounted automatically so I went to Disk Utility to have a look.
It says "invalid sector size (0)" or something (I'll edit/update this post in a bit. I'm on Mac Recovery as I'm typing this) and it couldn't repair it.
Bootcamped into Windows and the same thing's happening (partition shows up but as an unformatted volume, proceeds to prompt to format partition)
I haven't thought to check to see if the OSX volume has expanded or not, so I'll do it after this.
Man I hope the files are still there. Is there a fix or way to manually edit the sector size?
Would reverting back to Mavericks be able to repair it?
    Disk Details:
    960GB Crucial M500 SSD
    Partitioning Order:
    NTFS (W7) 128GB | exFAT (stuff) 512GB | HFS (OSX) 256GB | freespace (not used) the rest
(Windows reports a more complicated partition map due to the Hybrid MBR partition map, but the main partition order is as above)
(As for why this order, it happens that I am unable to add an additional partition when I install OSX before Windows due to constraints of the MBR-type partitioning, but I am able to add one when Windows is installed before OSX as a workaround to save one partition count in the MBR)
    Mac Details:

Hi putnik, thanks for the reply. I've tried the repair in Disk Utility from the recovery partition and it's unable to fix it as well.
The installer didn't have any prompts regarding File Vault (I never turned it on in the first place) beforehand.
It's my first time reading of Core Storage, so that may have bitten me on this end. The interesting property of the exFAT volume is Disk Utility recognises that as a Bootcamp volume (although no OS was installed in it and it doesn't appear in Bootcamp). (EDIT: it said that when I still had Mavericks but now it doesn't say anything even with the windows partition)
I'm still looking around for a fix or any way of reading it, and I'm holding off the last resort of reformatting it. Got a few days of work in it that I haven't backed up, although finding a fix could use the same amount of time as redoing it.

  • Partitioning HD after having installed Windows XP via Boot Camp

Okay, hope this is the right place and that what follows makes sense. Tech told me to go ahead and use Boot Camp to install XP Pro and that after doing that I could then further partition the hard drive for scratch and file-arrangement purposes.
So I got my Windows in and it works well. But when I go to Disk Utility to make partition(s)--resize, click on the "+" and so on--and then click "Apply," I get this kinda terrifying message that if I go forward I MAY NOT be able to boot into Windows. That sounds ambivalent.
So I didn't go forward for fear of losing access to Windows. But I really need at least a scratch volume for Photoshop 7.0, which I can use only in Windows at the moment. (That's why I installed Windows.)
Now I can't partition? Or can I go ahead? I'm asking before making a mess here. Thanks to any for assistance.

  • Various missing drivers after re-installing Win7 64 bit on hp pavilion dv7-6111eo

    Aloha
First off... I'm no techy, geek or nerd... And I mean those words in the best way, to those who are.
In this case You need to see me like a kid in kindergarden, being taken by the hand, and being shown what to do, down the the last detail. Sad but true.
Without me knowing why, I experienced missing several DLL-files, and often got error messages about those.
A pain in the neck, so I re-installed Windows 7 64 bit, as I didn't want to mess with those DLLs missing.
After that re-installing, I couldn't get internet-connection to my router. Luckily I have a 10+ year old stationary, where I after some time found the driver I needed, so that works now.
But now it seems there's several other drivers missing/not been installed.
I got a little info, from another post, what to provide with info, and hope that will be enough. if not, then please let me know the additional info that may be needed, and where I can find those on my PC, so I can provide these.
    Missing drivers:
    Network Controller;
    Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008B&SUBSYS_53158086&REV_34
    SM Bus Controller;

    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller;
    Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_0194&SUBSYS_1659103C&REV_04
I have 4 USB-ports, but only one will work, the others don't respond, and I need all four running at the same time. Plus I'd like to have everything in order after I had to re-install Win 7.
I thank You in advance for any and every help I can get. Just have in mind, that I need the things carved into paper.

  • Satellite A500 - Missing programs after upgrade to Windows 7

    Hi,
    I have Satellite A500 - 134,
When I was upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, I had to remove some programs as the upgrade advisor mentioned.
Now I miss those programs after installing Windows 7:
    # Toshiba Tempro
    # Toshiba ConfigFree
    # Toshiba Disc Creator
Also, "FN" button doesn't work anymore (it was working on Vista), so I can't activate any feature when I press FN + (some F# buttons like F2).
So, what can I do about this?

    Hi
Did you use the Windows 7 upgrade kit from Toshiba? This kit contains also an Utilities that must be used to due installation process and as mentioned in manual.
Anyway, you can get the tools on the Toshiba page now:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
For the FN buttons you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package.

  • Re-partitioning and re-installing Windows XP

I have to re-install Windows to my partition - long story and no need to detail the problem. I deleted the previous partition to start from scratch, re-created the partition with Boot Camp and when it came to installing Windows XP, I didn't get the option to install to the partition so I bailed, thinking I might end up installing Windows over OS X. I've tried it several times and get the same thing. Any information and/or suggestions would be welcome.

You need discs to reinstall OS. You can't download OS, unless you go the illegal way. If these came with Windows preinstalled, there should be factory reaset possibility when booting (when you see "Hit Delete to access BIOS" look for something based on resetting factory settings). Magic word:IF.
If not, you need CD and key of course.
