Missing pdf viewer add in

Updated to Yosemite recently and I know this features worked since the update...
but of the life of me, I can't view or download pdf files in safari. I looked and pdf viewer file is missing from the plug ins subdirectory. Restarting the machine has failed to restore the plug in. Might anyone suggest a solution?
Thank you,
G.

  • Add a PDF viewer for any device view instead of download

It is silly for us to be downloading PDFs. Add a web viewer, it's close to free! https://www.accusoft.com/products/accusoft-cloud-services/acs-document-viewing/

I have been experiencing serious issues with the pdf reader on the playbook.. the fact that its completely featureless (no search, no bookmarks, no highlighting) is almost minor compared to not being able to open pdf attachments in many cases. I'm not sure if it has to do with the encoding of the pdfs that I sometimes receive via e-mail, but they open fine on the laptop running adobe as well... I find it outrageous that a "business-class" tablet can not handle full and unlimited viewing/editing of the most commonly used document formats (this includes how remarkably featureless the docs-to-go software are). What do you do when you have your tablet with you and receive an e-mail but cant read the attachment pdf?
Is there any hope that the adobe reader is being developed, and an upgrade is in the works?
BTW I really like the PB, but these huge lacking features are causing more and more frustration as I attempt to use the device on a daily basis for the purpose that it should have.. only to find I can not Instead of android player, basic office functionality should be fixed. I read the ipad is getting an MS office suite next year?... pfff

  • How to add a hand tool (grab the page and drag) function on Chrome and firefox pdf viewer?

To clarify, hand tool is a function for user click on the pdf and dragging around , that is used to replace the scroll bar navigating .
The problem is, by default the Chrome and firefox pdf viewer do not have that function and I would like allow the user to drag the page.
A workaround is to use a jquery plugin (grab to pan https://github.com/Rob--W/grab-to-pan.js in my case) with an embed object (pdf viewer). When I maximum the size of the pdf and user drag the embed object.
The problem I have encounter is
    1) When using chrome/ firefox, the pdf content do not fit to the page but auto resize by default even I have set the adobe pdf open parameter , using iframe.
    2) The jquery seems conflict with the firefox pdf viewer, it works smoothly on Chrome but not firefox.
Here is the source code, you may download the plugin from the link mention above and have a look. Don't forget to put a '1.pdf' along with the source file. Thanks

  • Why no PDF viewer for Firefox4 for Mac?

I used to use the PDF viewing plug-in with Firefox 3.X but it seems there is no similar plug-in available for 4.X. Am I missing something? I tried downloading OpenIT, but it was truly awful. Why is Firefox so far behind on such a basic yet essential capability? I am about to either revert to 3.X or replace Firefox with Safari.

  • Error message: Missing PDF maker files in Word 2007

OK, I am beyond frustrated. I have had nothing but trouble with Windows Vista and Adobe Acrobat. Please help!!!
What happens: first, the pdf addin for Word 2007 suddenly becomes disabled, for no apparent reason. Forget about trying to re-enable it through the Add-Ins menu, because Word tells me that the "connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed". This is a problem for me, because I use a special font (Vietnamese) that sometimes gets corrupted when running pdf maker. The only consistent way I have found to avoid this problem is to run the pdf maker as "Quick PDF" and as far as I can see that option is only available through the pdf addin in Word, I have never been able to find it when I open the Acrobat program and create a pdf from there.
Second problem: shortly after the pdf addin becomes disabled, my Acrobat program loses the ability to create pdfs altogether. I get the error message "Missing PDF maker files". Yes, I have tried repairing the installation and re-starting my computer per the instructions given. It doesn't fix the problem. I also tried looking in the Knowledge Database on this website, but it appears that the instructions they have to fix the problem there are for earlier versions of Word, not 2007, because my version of word does not look like the version of Word in their little videos.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I resolved the problem by a) re-installing Acrobat, which is a pain because it involves calling Adobe and wading through their customer service to get a new installation number, and b) paying a computer repair service to dig deep into the guts of my computer and convince it to change the Office Add-ins to allow the pdf addin again. It worked for about 6 months, and now I have the same problem again. For some reason Vista is spontaneously disabling Acrobat.
I simply cannot deal with this every few months. We all know that Vista is a crappy program, but I run a business and I need a program that works with whatever crappy program Microsoft puts out. Please, can anyone give me suggestions about how to re-enable these functions when Vista disables them?
    Thanks in advance!

  • PDFs look different in Adobe reader and Acrobat professional compared to the built in PDF viewer on windows 8

    Hi there,
I have been trying to narrow down an issue we have been having for some time in printing PDF files and finding that they look different on paper compared to screen.  Up until today our big KIP plotter got the blame, but as I have been collecting notes on a little windows 8 tablet I noted that PDFs opened in the windows PDF viewer have the same visual defects as the printouts.  My example today is that on a CAD drawing there is a small box/frame with a number in their, I tried printing and the frame was completely blacked out.  As a test I tried saving the PDF as a TIFF file from Adobe Acrobat professional and this file had the same fault as the printed copy.  When I open it in the windows 8 pdf viewer I can see that there is a shading within this box that does not show on Adobe Reader (latest version 11.0.10.32), the adobe reader and acrobat pro version both show a white background to the box.  We have been having lots of issues with sections being missing from drawings and overly feint lines.
I am not sure where to start trying to narrow down why we are getting different results in different PDF readers.  Is there anyone who maybe able to point me in the right direction?  It almost feels like the shading or colour density is not being consistent when PDFs are being opened in different packages.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Some PDF viewers comply with the PDF ISO Standard (ISO 32000) "just enough" while others (such as Adobe's) fully comply.
As with anything there's a cost to using anything that comes from a "just enough" approach.
    Be well...

  • How do I change the default PDF viewer on my iPad so I can easily see annotations?

I keeping missing annotations on PDF because the built-in iPad Mail viewer does not show annotations.  To limit the keystrokes, instead of  using "open with" on each PDF email attachment to view in a third part app, I'd like to just change the mail default viewer. Is that possible with the current iPad operating systems?

No it is not possible to change the default pdf viewer in mail.

  • I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. Mac users can no longer read the page numbers but pc users can.

I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

    Hi KnoopL,
Are the Mac users using Preview to view the pdfs or Adobe Reader?

  • Did Adobe Acrobat/reader stop providing browser integrated PDF viewing(addin) for Internet Explorer?

Did Adobe acrobat and reader stop providing browser integrated PDF viewing capability for Internet Explorer?
Hi, I have been trying to view PDF's directly on my browser (Internet Explorer 9). We used to be able to have this available. To be honest last configuration that did work was Internet Explorer 8 with Adobe Acrobat 7. But I recently tried with Intenet Explorer 9 with Adobe Acrobat X and did not work as expected (I tried to activate the add in for Adobe but the adobe addin for PDF did not show up) I have the following questions:
    1) Do you still provide PDF's viewing capabilties on Internet Explorer?
    2) If yes: Is there a propper Add-in we (users) are able to install for Internet Explorer?
    3) if yes: Do we require to have Adobe Acrobat to have this capability? (this was my experience with IE8 and Adobe Acrobat 7)
    Additional Info:
There seems to be an addin for Chrome wich works as expected (opens PDF in browser) to this current date. This does not happen on IE.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you using the 64-bit edition of Internet Explorer?
The Adobe Reader/Acrobat plugin is 32-bit, and will not work on a 64-bit browser.

  • Cannot open pdf files with Firefox's built-in pdf viewer

This just started (I think) with Firefox 37.01. This is on Win7-X64. I cannot open pdf files with the Firefox built-in pdf viewer. If I click on the file or try to open it from within Firefox, it brings up a "opening filename.pdf" message. If I select the "Open with" radio button as 'Firefox (default),' it just keeps looping on this process; it never opens. In Tools => Options => Applications, Portable Document Format (PDF) is indicated as 'Preview in Firefox.' I've never had any other PDF viewer installed on this computer. I've tried disabling all plug-ins and extensions, but it still doesn't work. I searched for solutions but haven't found any for this specific issue.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
Have you tried, to start Firefox in safemode you can do so by following these steps
'''If Firefox is open,''' you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
'''If Firefox is not running,''' you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • PDF View Search Find Problems

FInd/search function in PDF view application still not fixed in WebOS 1.4.  In PDF View application:
    1) The field where you enter something to search/find is hidden by the name of the PDF document title.  It doesn't go away even when you start typing, so you can't see what you are typing.
    2) The count of the number of matches found looks greyed out and very hard to read.
    3) The up/down arrows in the top right next to the count of matches does not work.  Shouldn't they take you to each consecutive match?
    4) Why doesn't it position you to page in the document where the first match is found?   It shows the page number at the bottom, but since the up/down arrows at the top right don't work, I have to click the forward page arrow and then the backward page arrow to jump to the page containing the first match.

I don't know how to point Adobe to a certain printer, but the printer we are using does have that paper tray size.
So just to add some more clarification, its BO XI R2 and:
If I run the report in Deski, then save it as a PDF on my desktop, it is formatted properly, no problems at all, and no need to point Adobe to any printers. If I view the same report in Infoview it's split into two pages unless I chose "View -> Draft Mode". If I chose "Page Mode" it's split on two pages, if I chose "PDF Mode" (for printing) it's split into two pages and that is a problem....

  • PDF viewer removes text from tabs and search bars

Often when I open documents in the built-in PDF viewer Firefox freezes for a few seconds and then when it returns to life all the text not associated with a particular webpage is gone. The tabs for the Firefox windows have no text. The search bar has no text. The address bar has no text. The bookmarks bar has no text. If I right click I get a menu with no text. If Firefox opens any windows (such as below when I click "Automatically add") those windows have no text. I have a screenshot of this phenomenon but don't see any way of attaching it. Restarting Firefox only occasionally resolves the issue.
This was happening while I filled out this form and collected the troubleshooting information below (by guessing which textless window buttons did what.)

    Here is a picture!

  • Pdf viewer/editor queries

I am currently using Okular and acroread. Occasionally pdfedit though I don't like it much - the typewriter-type tool isn't as convenient as Acrobat's and I find Acrobat infuriating to being with.
Okular is pretty nice but has a couple of drawbacks:
    1) it doesn't use CUPS default settings for printers and it doesn't seem to remember chosen settings either. So I need to remember to set A4 paper and duplex for every document I print. It also doesn't remember the last used printer so I need to set that as well. (It keeps going back to the default printer - that seems to be the only CUPS default setting it *does* use!)
This is irritating but not fatal.
    2) Although Okular allows me to edit a PDF form and to save the result and it has a presentation mode, it is impossible to edit a PDF form while in presentation mode. At least, I've been unable to figure out a way. The problem seems to be that it interprets a click as "next slide" even if the click is over a form box. So it just advances rather than allowing me to type in the box. I've tried enabling different tools before switching to presentation mode but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
acroread, on the other hand, allows me to edit the form in presentation mode but won't let me save the result.
Does anybody know of a PDF viewer for Linux which allows both the editing of a form in presentation mode and the saving of the result?
I know there are a lot of different PDF viewers available and I've tried a reasonable number but I can't find any notes addressing this particular feature.
If there are any work-arounds I might be missing, I'd be interested in those as an alternative. I create the pdf forms using pdflatex and beamer. So if, for example, there was a way to enable the form for saving (equivalent to enabling it using Acrobat which I've heard is possible), that might work. I'd rather avoid acroread if I can - apart from anything else it seems very unstable and the AUR package seems neither very well thought through nor adequately maintained - but if it might work, it would be worth a shot.

So I discovered a partial work around but it isn't very satisfactory as it stands.
Today I used acroread in presentation mode to complete a form. Before saving, I printed the document to cups-pdf. This isn't ideal. It basically prints one stage of each slide in the middle of an A4 page (as if on paper) but it does retain the added text.
However, apart from the fact that it comes out a bit small, the quality of graphics is poor. This doesn't always matter much but sometimes it does.
Also, my slides use a shading effect from a lighter to darker colour of blue. This is quite subtle normally. However, when "printed", the top half of each slide is a block of the lightest shade while the bottom is a  block of the darkest shade so it is extremely distracting.
Assuming there is no suitable PDF viewer/editor for Linux which will do what I'd actually like to do, is there a way to improve the output from acroread/cups-pdf? acroread tends to crash if I try to change the print settings but it does respect cups defaults. So maybe I could somehow create a custom printer for this specific task? Assuming it is possible to get better output? I'm not sure whether this is a cups-pdf or acroread issue, though.

  • PDF Maker Add-In

I have a machine with Windows 8, Office 2013 and Acrobat X.  I'm having trouble with the PDF maker add-in.  In Word and Excel, the add-in is listed as "active" but I have no Acrobat toolbar and it does not appear on the ribbon.  In Outlook, the add-in is listed as "inactive".  It allows me to check the box to activate it, but remains in the "inactive" list regardless of how many times I try to activate it.  We have another machine in the office that uses the same hardware and same software versions, and the add-ins work on it just fine.  I have run updates on the office and Acrobat software, uninstalled and reinstalled, and ran "repair" on both multiple times and still have the same issue.  Help!

    Hi Ludy,
If you insist that the plugin is working fine on the othe rmahine then you can try the following:
Check the status of the add in Office 2013 >File > Options > Add ins > COM Addins > Go,
The add in tries to configure for the first time and if proper permissions are not there, it fails to load and Office disables the add in.
Try launching Office 2013 as Administrator, i.e. right click on Office icon and select 'Run as Administrator' and then check.
Do also create a new user account and check the behavior.
Also update Acrobat 10 to the latest version and check.
Try repairing Acrobat by going to the help menu > Repair acrobat.
In addition to the above you can check the following within the Office Application :
Enable PDFMakerOfficeAddin from the Microsoft Office application's Disabled Items list.
Open the Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, Publisher, or PowerPoint).
Open any Blank document and Click the 'File' menu button, then click the ' Options' button.
    Click Add-Ins.
From the Manage dropdown list select Disabled Items and click Go.
    Check the list for PDFMakerOfficeAddin:
If it is listed, then select it and click Enable. Close all dialog boxes and restart the Office application
If it is not listed, then make sure that PDFMOfficeAddin.dll is located in the '.../Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 10.0/PDFMaker/Office' folder. If the file is missing, then reinstall Acrobat.
Note: Microsoft Office Applications disable add-ins as a failsafe if the application is prematurely closed (for example, if the system wasn't shut off properly or the application crashed).
Add the COM add-in file to the Windows registry.
In Windows Explorer, locate the COM add-in file (PDFMOfficeAddin.dll) and note the exact path, which may include spaces.
    Choose Start > Run.
Type regsvr32 followed by a space, and then type the path that you noted in step 1, in quotation marks. For example: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Office\ PDFMOfficeAddin.dll "
Click OK, and then start the Office application.
Check if Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Add-in is present in the list of available COM Add-ins for the Office Application.
Launch Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, Access, or PowerPoint).
Click the Office button and choose '[Application name] Options'.
    Click Add-Ins.
From the Manage Dropdown list select COM Add-ins and click Go.
Check the list for PDFMakerOfficeAddin and the checkbox in front of it is checked.
If the checkbox is not checked then check it, click OK and restart the Office application.
If the Office application doesn't allow you to check the checkbox and you have already tried Solution 1, then select Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Add-in, click Remove and follw the next step.
If Adobe PDFMaker COM Add-in is not present in the list of available add-ins, then click Add and navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Office\. Select PDFMOfficeAddin.dll, click OK, then restart the Office application.
