Missing Photo Error

I have been attempting to correct a missing photo error to export to .pdf and send to blurb.  For whatever reason, I use the Find Missing Photo option in Library and return to the book module to export but this keeps happening.  Any suggestions?

I don't think the thumbnail was the solution, but it got me thinking. First I made sure that I did have a full res photo in iphoto and tried re-inserting it. No go. Then, I deleted the pages that had had the photo. No go. Somewhere there was a reference to the missing photo I wasn't getting. So, I created a new site and dragged each webpage to the new site. Once all the existing pages were in the new site, I deleted the old site name. That did it. No more missing photo message and no errors when uploading to the internet. I then renamed the site to the name I used to have.
Thanks for the help.

  • Missing photos in Aperture 3.1.3

I opened Aperture today to discover that all of my photos that are older than about 6 months are now missing from the library. The thumbnail/preview of missing photos show as an outline now. If I right click on a missing photo and select Show In Finder, I will see this error:
"The file (name) could not be found because the volume on whioch it resides is currently offline.
    Volume: Macintosh HD"
It seems that iPhoto, with an older set of photos, is working normally still. This is a somewhat new iMac that was created from a Time Machine backup from a MacBook Pro. I haven't really changed anything and the photo library has always been on the same local HD.
Any ideas? Should I just go back to iPhoto?!

Well, it seems that I just found part of the answer here. The path to the files in my iPhoto library has changed somehow - perhaps due to an update.
    /User/username/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/... etc
    ...has changed to...
    /User/username/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/... etc
File > Locate Referenced Files... will allow me to find and fix this but it seems like only one photo at a time. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Migrating iPhoto to Aperture 3 and the case of missing photos

I love the new Aperture 3 and am so excited to migrate from iPhoto. I have used the Aperture feature of importing an entire iPhoto library directly into a new Aperture library. This doesn't produce any errors (except for a handful of missing photos which aren't too important), but when I look at the resultant Aperture library (8 hours later), I am missing a LOT of photos. My iPhoto library has about 24,000 photos and my Aperture library only has about 16,000. Because of the differences in the way Aperture and iPhoto keep track of edits, my Aperture library should have considerably more photos than iPhoto and not less. Please help!

In new iLife 09 (or iPhoto 09), some pics are now black in the Event, simply an outline of dotted lines. Yet, when I cursor fast, they appear, so I know there are still there.
That doesn't mean that they are "still there". It means that a cached version of the image exists.
I recall, when migrating photos it noted that the photos in iPhoto (old system) needed to be formatted to new iPhoto, so I allowed. Makes me wonder if something in a pic title or such is the issue.
That's a standard procedure when you upgraded to the later version of iPhoto. Happens every time to up a version, and to everyone.
With regard to Portrait. When I import from iPhoto to Aperture, any Portrait picture has a 2nd verson next to it, but in the Horizontal. All Horizontal pics, there is only the one version of the pic.
Your camera has an Auto-Rotate feature. However, the camera does not actually rotate any pixels in the file, but instead flags it with an instruction: "Display me this way". iPhoto, seeing the flag, reads the intention and creates a modified version. Hence the second version of the Portrait pics and no second version of the Landscape ones. The landscape ones don't have an auto-rotate tag.
For the dotted line problem, try rebuild your iPhoto Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Large number of new missing photos

I have a Library of 9500 images across 20+ folders. I have had no prior problems and have migrated the library to a new system using XP pro and Lightroom version 1.31 with no problems. All of the sudden several months later I now have 820 missing photos, and strangely they are scattered across all my folders. When I click on the ?, it tells me the photo is offline or missing. When I direct it to locate the missing photo it always tells me the old location which is correct and still valid. When I locate the file manually it tells me that this is not the same file name, and asks if I am sure? This is all very strange since the filenames are correct and have not been moved. When I tell it to go ahead it recognizes the file. That's great, but I still have 820 more files. How can I automate this process? None of my folder names are in red so I can't update an entire folder to speed up the process.
    Thanks,
    Mike

write a review explaining the errors!
The publisher is likely to see it or be contacted about it and release an update to the book. If that fails, I don't know.

  • Missing Photos and other problem

iphoto had 3900 picture displayed the other day. The next day there were only 2500. I had a simalar problem last spring so I did a rebuild on the library after I saved a copy. I then wound up with 3500 photos. 400 still missing. I noticed there were out of order date wise and when I checked recently imported photos (jan 2006) they were in the iphoto libtary but now in the year 2000 folder folder instead. I haven't gone through every folder yet to find the other missing photos but what caused this problem? Can I fix it without going through every folder?
Next which I believe is a related issue to the above. My computer will not always go fully to sleep. Monitor turns off computer still running. Or Computer wil not wake up from sleep mode. Next, I tried to run disk utility and verify disk permissions. It stopped stating "Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management tool and cannot continue. Quit and relaunch". I did this several times but the same error message keeps coming up. What do I need to do to resolve this mess? Do I have a virus? A drive that is about to crash? (I have the lastest update for iPhoto 5.)

Why not just have Lightroom locate the top-level missing folder(s)?
If you are in folder panels, they should show a question mark. Right click on the question mark and locate the folder. If all of the folders are in an upper level folder that you can't see  you can show it by right clicking on the folder and selecting "Show Parent Folder"

  • Thumbnails appear but missing file error message if try to open

PSE worked fine for 2 months, when downloading to Shutterfly organizer crashed. uninstalled and reinstalled-problem persisted. Set up new user/administrator and organizer would open but with "missing file error message" if tried to open thumbnail picture. Then unistalled pse8 and reinstalled pse6. Still get missing file error, but again I can see the thumbnails. I had at one point 5000 photo's and deleted 3000 to reduce clutter using the delete from harddrive option when I did so. Now I once again have 5000 photo's cataloged ?? At this point I would be happy to simply get pse6 working as it should, any suggestions please. I have a lot of time and knowledge invested in PSE and I hate to cop out to Picassa at this point ?

I'm slowly getting this mess untangled. It seems that on the reinstalls of pse8 following organizer crash that even photo's that were previously deleted from both catalogs AND harddrive must still keep a thumbnail version hidden in some file somewhere. when I used the delete option in the missing file dialog I was able to remove them from the current catalog. It seems as though after too many software upgrades and photo's copied and saved through the years, you might as well by a new computer and mke a fresh start. But then again I'd just have to deal with windows7 and pse8 compatibility issues anyway. D@&D if I do, D@&D if I don't scenario !!

  • Help please - unable to open missing photos 'browse' dialogue box

    Hi All,
new to the forum, but long time LR user.
I have a problem with LR v.3.4.1 I have a few missing photos (quite a few actually) in my catalogue from when I moved hard drives in v1.  I jumped from v.1 to v3.  But used to be able to find them still.
Now when I click the ? icon the browse dialogue box won't open.  Double clicking only switches from thumnail to full size - though there are no index images of these photos.
I've checked the drives, the images still exist.  I tried re-iporting the images to see if that would bring them up as duplicates, but the LR finder would not see any images there.
Since switching from v.1 to v.3 I have done quite a few shoots, and I'd be sad (no mortified!) to loose either bit of editing work.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Damian

I should say, this is the case for both my Macbook Pro running v10.5.8
and my new today, iMac running v10.6.7

  • How to reset paths (NOT missing photos)

I have created a new folder with all my photos. Within it are individual folders named by year (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009...).
I have several old catalogs with photos pointing to different files on several external HDs.  I want to relink them nice and neatly so that they all point to the photos on my newly created folder on a dedicated external HD.
How can I relink all the photos? I've searched all over the internet but the only information that I can find are those related to "missing photos and question marks in the corner (and not just "resetting paths" as in Expression Media/iView).   I have attempted to FORCE the question mark and relink it that way but Lightroom will not find nearby files. It only finds photos taken on the same day.
There must be some easy way like in Expression Media/iView to simply reset the path, i.e., manually relink in big batches (all photos in one folder).
I'd be so grateful for any insight and solutions anybody could offer me.

You've a couple of routes - for individual images, or for folders.
With individual images, it depends on the image being missing. If it has a little question mark or exclamation mark in the corner in grid view, click the missing file marker and point to where the photo is now located. Ensure "Find Nearby" is ticked, and press OK. LR will read the filenames of other missing files and try to find them too. This route is no use if the image is not missing.
With folders, you can right click any folder. You get a question mark if the folder is missing, and right click - "Find Missing Folder". If the folder is not missing, the context menu is "Update Folder Location". In each case you can now point to the new folder location.
To make it easy on yourself, right click a parent folder and update its location. Its child folders will then be updated too.
    Does that help?

  • How can I export an iMove Project if the Event file was deleted?  (Missing Media error message)

    Deep iMovie question:
I accidentally deleted various EVENT files from my iMove EVENTS folder.  Yes, they are really gone ... this is NOT a matter of restoring them from the trash.
The projects are still there ... I can still watch the projects as long as I am in iMovie ... but if I try to export the Project I get the MISSING MEDIA error message.
Logic tells me that if I can view the project ... the  file has to be SOMEWHERE inside my computer ... else I couldn't be watching it ... right?  I mean what am I watching if not some file somewhere which has moving pictures stored in it?
So HOW do I get to something I can export?  What am I watching when I watch the project?
I have iMove 08 on iMac with OS 10.6.8
Normally works great for my simple needs ... except if you move or delete an event file ...
    Can anyone out there help?
    thank you,
    Natasya

If you don't have the original files then I'm afriad you don't have anything to work with.

  • Missing photos in iPhoto '08 v. 7.1.3

This is hardly a "new" topic on this discussion but after trying every recommendation I have been able to find, I am still no further forward so would appreciate any other suggestions that might be forthcoming.
When iPhoto is launched it shows, at the foot, 17,528 items. Click on a thumbnail and one of two thing happens: either, and this is the good one, the photo launches normally or, and this is the other, up pops the greyed out area with the exclamation mark. If I understand that correctly it either means that the original photo is "missing" or that iPhoto is unable to link to it.
An Info check on the iPhoto library shows 12.86 GB. However, on the originals folder only it shows 5.49 GB for 7,506 items.
I have tried all the rebuild facilities offered by iPhoto. No change.
I have installed iPhoto Library Manager and tried to rebuild the library using that: it hangs, showing "getting photo information"...which it doesn't. I had to close it using Force Quit.
I have used the "extract photos" facility in that program - it tells me that 5,589 photos have been extracted.
None of the figures tie up - and I'm not even clear if they are supposed to do so.
The real mystery to me is that the "missing" photos seem entirely random: in a group of, say 10, photos which were imported together 1 or 2 might be missing, all might be, none might be. There is just no discernible "pattern" to the problem.
So, two questions, really: (1) any bright ideas as to what to try next or what might be causing this and (2) if my library is terminally corrupted then it seems to me I should start a brand new library using the extracted photos as the basis then add others from CDs and DVDs, but in doing so is there a way of avoiding duplication?
    Thanks in anticipation...

To create a library from scratch - which is what you need to do as you do have a damaged library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How do I find my hidden/missing photos?

On my iPhone4 my Camera Roll is showing 925 photos, which I have recently backed up to my computer. However iTunes shows I have 2103 photos using 4.47 gb. On my phone under settings>general>usage>photos & camera it shows that I have used 4.6 gb. And on my phone under settings>general>about>photos it shows 2,065.
This is my 2nd iPhone, which replaced the 1st iPhone4 when it had a problem and stopped working.  I am missing a whole lot of pictures, and so the over 2000 number makes sense.  I just don't know how to find the hidden/missing photos.
Can anyone help me with this?

I think your numbers add up --- as follows:
iTunes says you have 2.103 photos.  I claim they consist of:
925 photos on your Camera Roll
178 photos in your Photo Library
1,000 photos in your Photo Stream
    2,103 total photos
If you're having trouble finding the Photo Stream photos, maybe this will help:

  • In new iOS 8 photos app, I am missing photos in photo view that are in album view

All my photos in the iPhoto app on my iMac appear correctly in the album view in the new Photos app on my iPhone 6.  However, not all the photos appear in the photos view.  To try and get the counts to match, in iTunes, I synced my iPhone after unchecking the syncing of photos.  I checked the Photos app on my iPhone and there were no photos.  Then I checked to sync all photos in iTunes and synced my iPhone again.  Every photo on my iMac was in the album view, but there were still missing photos in the photo view.
Anyone have this problem and a solution?

Thanks for your response.  Turns out the iPhotos database was corrupted.  I rebuilt it and now the counts match.
I do have summarize photos turned off as you suggested.
But now I have a new problem.  I have smart albums in iPhoto on my iMac that correspond to decades.  These albums and the photos they contain appear perfectly in the album view on my iPhone 6.  However, a few photos in the photos view appear with the wrong date.  So I'm working on resolving this.

You are missing one or more photos - youprobably have a page background that requires a photo which is behind a page with photos on it - all pages must either have a photo or be a color - if you have a gray background it requires a photo - look through the book carefully and be sure to look at the background on any full page photos - you will find one or more missing photos
