Missing Photos Icon in IOS 8

I upgraded and iPad 4 (retina) to IOS 8 and when I went to iPhoto it requested to upgrade the pictures to Photo or exit.  I upgraded to Photo and then deleted the iPhoto icon.  However, I can not find a Photo icon anywhere.  I can go to the Camera app and access Photo or I can go into a supported app and send to Photo, but there is no Photo icon to be found.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can enter new and edit old contacts directly from the Phone app. Open Phone and then tap Contacts at the bottom of the screen. To add new tap + at top right.
I never use the Contacts App itself, but you should have one. If I remember correctly it was by default on the 2nd home screen or in a folder -- but I could be wrong because I haven't used it in years so I may have moved it somewhere in a folder on the 2nd screen to get it out of the way. If you want to use it and can't find it, another way is to open Spotlight Search by swiping down with one finger on the home screen (don't start the swipe at the very top of the screen or it will open Notifications instead of search).

  • Missing Photos Already in Catalog

Photos in one of my Collections are shown as Missing, and I can not update them because Lightroom thinks they are Already in Catalog. In fact there are two versions of all these photos in the Catalog grid view: one is shown as Missing and the other is not missing. How can I update the Collection photos without manually recreating the Collection?
In detail: I had some photos in my Lightroom Catalog. I added them to a Lightroom Collection. All was well.
Later, outside of Lightroom, I decided to copy the photos to a new folder on a new hard drive. Then I deleted the original photos and folder.
The LR Catalog now shows two instances of these photos, a good one and a Missing Photo. When I ask to Locate in Finder the good one, LR accurately shows it s location on my hard drive. Both instances of the photos have identical names and thumbnails. The LR Collection shows only one instance of the photos and they all show Missing Photos icons.
When I try to Locate the Missing Photo, I get this message "Already in Catalog. the file "xxx" is associated with another photo in the catalog. Each file can only be associated with one photo." In other words, I am unable to get the LR Collection to recognize the new location of the digital file.
If I delete the photo duplicate with the Missing Photo icon, the photo is removed from my Collection. This is not acceptable for two reasons: I have now 449 "Missing" images in this Collection and I do not want to manually list, delete and then replace each one. I think this is the job of an asset management database like Lightroom, and I depend on it to keep accurate track of everything.
It has been 17 days since I opened a Customer Support case and I have had  numerous exchanges with the Adobe reps, including a 1.75 hr. phone conversation, and still no solution. Sometimes there seems to be a language problem but at other times a lack of product knowledge. Is there anyone out there that can help?

    Ok, thanks for clarifying.
Lightroom does not create duplicates on its own. They arise usually because the user did something, perhaps accidentally. By any chance, did you ever tell Lightroom to "Synchronize Folders..." ?
Lightroom does not follow or find your photos if you move them outside of Lightroom. My recommendation for newcomers to Lightroom is to always move or rename files and folders from inside of Lightroom.
If I understand your situation properly, I think the solution to your mess is as follows: First ... in Windows or Mac Finder (the only time I ever recommend moving things in WIndows or Mac Finder  is to fix or unfix previous moves in Windows or Mac Finder)  ... move (cut and paste, not copy and paste) the photos back to where they were. This should connect the copy that is now "bad", and fixing the problem in your collections. Second, in Lightroom, delete the copies on the new hard drive, which should now be disconnected. Now, you should have one copy of everything (including in your collections) that is connected and usable in Lightroom. Finally (optionally), if you want your photos to reside on the new hard drive, then inside Lightroom, move them to the new hard drive.

  • Missing photo

    hi
i'm on the last of 10 lessons on lightroom 3. i imported the four photo's for the lesson, but they all have the "missing photo" icon instead of the "metadata file needs updating" icon. i managed to convert one photo to the "sidecar has conflict" icon, but still i cannot continue. everything i have tried says file is empty, or path not found. yet i can see all four photo's quite clearly. does it really have to be as complicated as this? its taking all the pleasure out of it.
    any advise please.
    from jan

    Hey Jan,
If you bring up LR, and go to Catalog Settings,  the top lines in the window will tell you where the catalog resides, and what it's name is.
To delete the catalog entirely, you want to delete the .lrcat and .lrdat files/folders.  Just trash them.   The test images you imported are where ever you left them, since you used Add.  Delete as appropriate or not, they aren't that big.
Thre is no need to uninstall LR, and uninstalling it does not delete the catalog anyway.
The most important part of putting together a new catalog is figuring out where you want to put your photos.  Think about it carefully, then make a home for them.  Once you create the catalog, you can put all of your images in there.  That would be your "main place" to store your images.  I recommend an internal drive, one that isn't near being full.  If you only have one drive, then your choices are a _little_ more limited.
As I said before, my images are located under a single folder, called CanonPhotos.  That way I know where they all are, and it makes it easy to back them up, or move them.  Just move that one whole directory if needed...
Start with only a _few_ images!  Do NOT make copies of 4500 images!  That's just silly...  I would take no more than 100 of them.
Then, when you are happy and think you have the structure all settled in your mind, THEN you can import the rest of them, but use the Move command instead.  That will move them into the same locations as all the rest of the images, and you're on your way!
As for raw...  Yes, working with raw is a bit more limiting, in that you have to use a "raw converter" to edit them.  You have several choices: your program that came with your camera, LR, or PS (via ACR).  When you install LR it will automatically connect you to PS, if PS is already installed.  So that's one down.
Later, when you import your raw images, the only difference you will notice in LR is when you want to edit in PS, it will make a new file, because PS can not (and should not) write to the raw file.  Other than that, all things will be basically the same.
Most people will tell you: Never delete your raw images.
There is a good reason for this.  If you think about film negatives, and printing photos... destroying your raw file is the same as printing a photograph from your film, then throwing away the film.  You just don't do it.  If you keep your raw image, then later on, when you have a new idea on trying something (converting to black and white, making it all magenta, doing strange things with noise, etc), then you have your original to work from.. Otherwise, you are stuck with how you did it the first time.
Eventually your workflow will turn into something like this:
copy the images from your memory card into a temporary folder on your computer.
Import all of the images into LR
    Play and Print
    That's it!
So, think about where you want to store all of your images over the long haul, and then how you want the folders organized...
    Cheers!

  • Photos icon gone

Kids have been playing with iPad and now photos app is gone from dock. How can I get it back?

Yes. Don't know how it happened. I was able to point iTunes back to its location in My Music and that fixed it. I really appreciate your help, was tearing my hair out over the missing photos icon! @#%$ kids! :-)

  • IPhone iOS 8: Tapping on photo icon in messages app causes app to crash

Issue (?ios 8 bug?): Tapping on photo icon in messages app causes app to crash. Present in ios 8.0, and also still in ios 8.0.2. iPhone 6+ 64GB.
I just wondered if anyone else has been having this problem.
Initially it worked great. Tapping the photo button next to the text box in message should bring up a menu with your latest photos and other sharing options. However, after the first couple of days, tapping the button brought up the menu, the phone freezes, and then after a few seconds the photo app crashes.
Deleting most of my photos restored the function, but after another couple of days (and some more photos) it started happening again so I think perhaps it is related to the number of photos. After about 5-10 photos it loads the menu very slowly and its quite buggy. After 20+ photos it wont load the menu at all without freezing and the app crashing.
My iphone 6+ was set up as a new phone (not restored from back-up).
I hope this is some kind of bug that will be fixed in ios 8.0.3, but wondered if anyone else has the same problem or has any solutions?
My workaround at the moment is just to go the photos app and either copy and paste the photo into a message, or share the photo via the photos app.

I have this same issue with my 128 gb 6 plus.  I've tried restoring as new on a few occasions, but to no avail.  I did notice while my pc was synchronizing my apps, that the feature worked fine a few times until the synchronization was complete.  I seriously hope that the numbers of photos limits one's use of the feature, because i purchased the 128 gb 6 plus so that i could keep photos at my ready.
Has anyone heard of a solution yet?

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • IOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

I use AirPlay to stream music from both iTunes and Pandora on my iPhone 5 to an AirPort Express.  After upgrading to iOS 8, I no longer have an AirPlay icon in Control Center.  The AirPort Express and the iPhone 5 are both connected to the same network.  The AirPort Express is very new (purchased new from Apple within the past 90 days).  It all worked great before upgrading to iOS 8

    APPLE...
The problem of a missing AirPlay icon and missing AirPlay devices has not yet been fully resolved. The variations I've seen (on an iPad 4) are
    1) There is NO AirPlay icon, only AirDrop
    2) The AirPlay icon is there but when you open its popup the local device (iPad) displays at the top of the list followed by one other device. If you now wait the shown device scrolls sideways and shows another available device
    3) The AirPlay icon is displayed and its popup window contains a current list of all available streaming devices. This is what we want!
HInt: Possibly there is something going on concerning the streaming capabilities of the available AirPlay devices. I've noted that my AppleTV is usually first up when devices start to appear and this offers picture and sound streaming (also screen cloning from suitable devices). After this the audio only streaming devices appear.
APPLE PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS !

There is no way to view your photos via iCloud.com. Videos are not uploaded.
Photo Stream merely "pushes" the photos to your other devices.

  • In new iOS 8 photos app, I am missing photos in photo view that are in album view

All my photos in the iPhoto app on my iMac appear correctly in the album view in the new Photos app on my iPhone 6.  However, not all the photos appear in the photos view.  To try and get the counts to match, in iTunes, I synced my iPhone after unchecking the syncing of photos.  I checked the Photos app on my iPhone and there were no photos.  Then I checked to sync all photos in iTunes and synced my iPhone again.  Every photo on my iMac was in the album view, but there were still missing photos in the photo view.
Anyone have this problem and a solution?

Thanks for your response.  Turns out the iPhotos database was corrupted.  I rebuilt it and now the counts match.
I do have summarize photos turned off as you suggested.
But now I have a new problem.  I have smart albums in iPhoto on my iMac that correspond to decades.  These albums and the photos they contain appear perfectly in the album view on my iPhone 6.  However, a few photos in the photos view appear with the wrong date.  So I'm working on resolving this.

  • Strange behaviour of iPad Photos app/My Photo Stream with iOS 8.1 and Yosemite

My requirement is surely simple and commonplace, yet is proving impossible to achieve thanks to Apple's weird design of the Photos app and the way My Photo Stream works.  I'm very technically savvy, but I'm quite prepared to admit I'm being stupid if someone can explain what I'm doing wrong!  I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).  I've enabled iCloud Drive on both.  iPhoto on the Mac is at v9.6.
I have a selection of 109 photos from a recent holiday in a folder on my MacBook, which I would like in a folder on my iPad as a nice way to show them to friends.   iTunes may work but seems so incredibly clunky and old-fashioned I hoped I could do it over the network or via the cloud.  I would use (and often have used) Dropbox, which is reliable and logical but rather tedious as you have to save each photo one by one.
So, with a little research and playing around, I found that I could get them to the iPad using iPhoto on the Mac, with My Photo Stream enabled.  However, it doesn't seem to work.  The photos were all created yesterday so had yesterday's date (I'd removed EXIF data that contained various earlier dates).
I've just done the following test:
I deleted all photos from the iPad (using the Photos app)
On the Mac, I deleted all photos from iPhoto
In iPhoto Preferences on the Mac, I turned on “My photo stream”, with the two sub-options also enabled
I imported the 109 photos into iPhoto
On the iPad, in My Photo Stream, I saw the photos gradually appear over the next few minutes
A  minute or two later, when no more seemed to coming, I found that 103 of the original 109 were in My Photo Stream.  So, strangely, 6 photos were missing
Even stranger, in the “Photos” tab, under “Yesterday” 37 of them could be seen.  If I understand this correctly (which I may not), that means 37 of them had been copied from the My Photo Stream to the iPad itself.  Am I right?  Why only 37?
On the iPad, I added a new Album called Summer 2014
I selected all 103 photos from My Photo Stream to add to the album
In the Summer 2014 album, I briefly see “103 Photos” at the bottom of the album, but this quickly changes to 66 as photos that briefly appeared now disappear, leaving only 66 left in the album
Checking in Photos/Collections/Yesterday, I find there are now 66 photos (rather than 37 as there were earlier) - the same ones that are showing in my Summer 2014 album.
If I attempt to manually add any of the missing photos to the album, nothing happens - the album refuses to allow any more than the 66 it has.
In iPhoto on the Mac, if I click on the SHARED/iCloud entry on the left, I see all 109 photos, which I think means iPhoto has correctly shared them all, so I suspect the problem is with the iPad.
Yesterday, when I was playing with this, the album allowed 68 photos.  I tried deleting one and adding one of the missing photos, but it wouldn't allow this either, so I don't think it's objecting to the number of photos so much as disliking particular ones.
I've got 7.7GB free space on the iPad so I don't think it's a space issue.
Can anyone help?  If it's a bug in iOS, iCloud or OS X, how can I report it, given that I'm out of my 3 months support for both my machines?
    Thank you!

Well done lumacj! This is a good workaround. Forgive me if I offer a simplified version here (this works if original photos are in Photo stream):
    1. In "My photo stream", tap on select at top of screen
    2. Tap on each photo you want to send via WhatsApp (circle with "√" shows for each photo)
    3. Tap on square box with arrow at bottom of screen (Share) - NOT "Add To"
    4. Tap on "Save image(s)"
    5. Check that selected photos now appear on "Camera Roll"
    6. From WhatsApp, send photos as you would have normally

  • Help please - unable to open missing photos 'browse' dialogue box

    Hi All,
new to the forum, but long time LR user.
I have a problem with LR v.3.4.1 I have a few missing photos (quite a few actually) in my catalogue from when I moved hard drives in v1.  I jumped from v.1 to v3.  But used to be able to find them still.
Now when I click the ? icon the browse dialogue box won't open.  Double clicking only switches from thumnail to full size - though there are no index images of these photos.
I've checked the drives, the images still exist.  I tried re-iporting the images to see if that would bring them up as duplicates, but the LR finder would not see any images there.
Since switching from v.1 to v.3 I have done quite a few shoots, and I'd be sad (no mortified!) to loose either bit of editing work.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Damian

I should say, this is the case for both my Macbook Pro running v10.5.8
and my new today, iMac running v10.6.7

  • How do I choose a photo as albumcover in the Photos app? (iOS 8)

When viewing albums in the Photos app, you can change the order of the photo's by pressing select in the upper right corner, holding down a photo and moving it around. The first photo in the album (in the upper left corner), would then become your albumcover for that album. At least in iOS 7.
Now in iOS 8 after rearranging photo's in an album, the cover seems to be a random photo from that album. With no option to change it, so it seems.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I missing something?
Can anyone tell me how to choose a diffirent cover for my photo albums in iOS 8?

It happens to me too. When i add a photo into an album, after the sync in the itunes the cover is a random photo from that album. I would also like to know whether this is something new or it is a bug.
