Missing photos in Iphoto Data migration between iMacs

OMG, Please help!  I got my new iMac yesterday and did a data migration from my old mac.  2 hours later all my files and stuff are on the new machine.
I just went into iPhoto and it says there are 16,000 pics there, but instead of photos all I have are 16,000 blank boxes.  You click on them as if you were opening a pic and all you get is a triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle.
Have I lost all my pictures??

it says iPhoto libary 129.82 GB
Sounds like the photos are there anyway.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    Missing photos in iPhoto.
    I’m using a Mac Pro, 2.8 GHz, 16m Ram, OS 10.6.8, iPhoto 9.2.3
I’ve seen many posts similar to this, however my problem is somewhat different…
All was fine prior to last weekend, however, when I needed some of my recent pictures yesterday they were missing, however there were still old photos, the last event date they showed was June 3 2011. I have tried various ideas, from previous experience with Macs (been using them since the mid 90’s) and ideas from the support forums. Just to add to my misery I then found all my recent projects in iMovie have done exactly the same thing, all recent movie projects had gone yet everything prior to Jul 22 2012 was there.
Anyone out there have any ideas, I have a majority of items backed up, thankfully, I’d just like to know what’s happened!

  • Missing photos in iPhoto 6

I don't know what happened, but I am missing a lot of photos from iPhoto 6. I have an albumdata.xml file on my desktop, I don't know how it got on the desktop, but I am guessing that is my problem.
    Any suggestions?

  • Missing photos in iPhoto '08 v. 7.1.3

This is hardly a "new" topic on this discussion but after trying every recommendation I have been able to find, I am still no further forward so would appreciate any other suggestions that might be forthcoming.
When iPhoto is launched it shows, at the foot, 17,528 items. Click on a thumbnail and one of two thing happens: either, and this is the good one, the photo launches normally or, and this is the other, up pops the greyed out area with the exclamation mark. If I understand that correctly it either means that the original photo is "missing" or that iPhoto is unable to link to it.
An Info check on the iPhoto library shows 12.86 GB. However, on the originals folder only it shows 5.49 GB for 7,506 items.
I have tried all the rebuild facilities offered by iPhoto. No change.
I have installed iPhoto Library Manager and tried to rebuild the library using that: it hangs, showing "getting photo information"...which it doesn't. I had to close it using Force Quit.
I have used the "extract photos" facility in that program - it tells me that 5,589 photos have been extracted.
None of the figures tie up - and I'm not even clear if they are supposed to do so.
The real mystery to me is that the "missing" photos seem entirely random: in a group of, say 10, photos which were imported together 1 or 2 might be missing, all might be, none might be. There is just no discernible "pattern" to the problem.
So, two questions, really: (1) any bright ideas as to what to try next or what might be causing this and (2) if my library is terminally corrupted then it seems to me I should start a brand new library using the extracted photos as the basis then add others from CDs and DVDs, but in doing so is there a way of avoiding duplication?
    Thanks in anticipation...

To create a library from scratch - which is what you need to do as you do have a damaged library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How do I recover missing photos in iPhoto 11?

    HI!
I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 (from iPhoto 9, I believe). There are 12 photos missing from  the 'Photos' section of my library. There are dashed lines around the locations where the photos should be (it is a sequence of 12 pictures), so I assume the originals are in the iPhoto Library somewhere. How do I have the placed back where they should be?
         Thanks for your help.
    Doug Chisholm

Give these two fixes a try  to see if they can recover those missing photos.  But be sure to have a backup of your current library in case the results are not to your liking:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhone sync - restoring missing photos in iPhoto from the phone

I have recently restored from a Time Machine backup, and several recent photo imports are now missing from iPhoto. (Yes, I have tried to rebuild the library, but they are still missing.) The photos still exist on my iPhone, but when I plug it in, it only allows me to import from the 'Camera Roll' album, and not the 'Photo Library' album, where the missing photos still exist. So:
Question #1 - If I allow iTunes to perform a photo sync, will it replace the whole 'Photo Library' album, thereby deleting the photos that only exist on my phone? Or is this a two-way sync, which would happily reinsert my missing photos back into iPhoto? (Wishful thinking I'm guessing).
Question #2 - Is there a way to pull those photos from the iPhone manually, so I can re-import them into iPhoto?

Yes and Yes (using third party software or emailing them, or uploading them) but remember that the ones on the iPhone are compressed optimised versions just for the iPhone display - not the originals.

  • Missing photos in iPhoto's Photo Stream

Sometimes I take photos around my construction site, I got a MBP inside my office connected to Internet (sometimes intermittent), when I get in the Wifi area mi iPhone uploads it to Photo Stream with no problem. Issue is when I open iPhoto in my MBP, I am missing one photo, so I got to turn off Photo Stream in iCloud preferences and turn it back on and it downloads all photos again, isn't there a way to force it to sync so instead of downloading all again, it only download the missing photo?
    Thank you.

Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.

  • Seamless data migration between forms and other adobe products

How can I migrate data from a form to complete a pdf fillable form (such as a contract) and then send to echosign in an automated process?

    Hi;
If this question is related to PDF forms created in Acrobat, and not related to FormsCentral you should post (or I can move to) the Acrobat Forms Forums: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms
If it is about FormsCentral, there is nothing in FormsCentral that supports automated data migration.

  • Missing photos from iPhoto sync in iTunes to iPhone

iTunes is not recognizing the correct number of photos in some of my iPhoto events. Some events are showing as having 0 photos in them, others are showing far fewer photos than the event actually has.
After some digging I found a pattern: the problem only affects "referenced" events, i.e., events where the master copies of the photos are in folders outside of the iPhoto Library. In my case these are mainly older events for which I already had folders before I started using iPhoto. For these events, iPhoto maintains an alias in the library to the original file. The original files are all there, available and editable within iPhoto.
If I edit a photo in one of the affected events, it then appears available for sync in iTunes, presumably because once edited, the modified photo is stored in the iPhoto Library.
To summarize, iTunes does not recognize any iPhoto photos which are stored outside of the iPhoto Library folder (referenced), unless that photo has since been edited in iPhoto.
I'm using Lion 10.7.2 and the latest versions of both iPhoto and iTunes, syncing with an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.

I've resolved the problem, and it wasn't pretty.
It starts with iPhoto 8 ('09) on my iMac. This library had a bunch of "referenced" photos, ie, photos whos image files were outside of the iPhoto Library folder. In iPhoto 8 this was handled by creating an OS X alias file in the Originals folder within the iPhoto Library folder.
Then I wanted to move my library to my new MacBook Air running Lion and iPhoto 9 ('11). Forgetting that I had referenced files in my library I just copied the iPhoto Library folder from my iMac to my MacBook Air as the Apple support docs say (they don't mention anything about referenced files). Of course the referenced files were not copied to the MacBook, but everything appeared to be OK.
Start iPhoto 9 on my MacBook and it upgrades the library. It can't find the referenced images of course, but there's no warning or anything. iPhoto 9 has a totally different folder and database structure. All the information it needs about where to find an image is now in the Library.apdb SQlite database file in iPhoto Library/Database/apdb/. In that db there's a table called RKMaster which stores the info about each photo. RKMaster has a column called imagePath which is where the full path of the original image file is supposed to go. However, since my referenced images were not available during the iPhoto library upgrade it just set these all to "Masters/<image file name>", and stored the alias information from the iPhoto 8 database in a BLOB column called fileAliasData. When I worked out the referenced files were missing I copied them over to my MacBook, and the iPhoto was miraculously able to find them again because of the information in the fileAliasData column in the database.
However, iTunes and other apps that link to the iPhoto library don't access the iPhoto Library database directly. They use a file called AlbumData.xml in the iPhoto Library folder. iPhoto 9 re-creates this file every time you close iPhoto. Unfortunately, what it uses to build the full image path for putting in the XML file is what's stored in the imagePath column in the database, which by now is basically garbage. iPhoto can see all the files OK, but nothing else can.
The only solution was to painstakingly fix the RKMaster records for all my referenced files so that they pointed to the correct place. I took the opportunity to copy the files to the iPhoto Library folder in the process so that now all my images are in the iPhoto Library folder. This implied setting fileIsReferenced to 0 and fileAliasData to null for those records aswell.
Now I finally have everything working again, but it was a very long and tedious process that can only be done with some knowledge of SQL databases. Apple should really warn people about this potential problem when advising on how to move your iPhoto Library.

  • Data Migration from iMac to MacBook Pro Issues

    Hello!
I purchased a MacBook Pro and immediately began the data transfer through the Migration Assistant. Twelve hours later, it is at a screen saying "canceling migration", which it has been stuck on for five hours. I shut down my MacBook Pro and the iMac, and attempted to start the process over again. It appears that the data in fact did transfer, so I skipped the step asking me to transfer my data. Now I am at the screen to create my account, and it will not let me choose my full name or account name (due to that account information already being transfered over). That is the only account I would like to use, not any new account. I am unsure how to get around this step, any advice?
    Thanks!

I just bought a MacBook Pro and am trying to use MA to migrate stuff from my iMac (Intel, OSX 10.4.11) to my MacBook Pro (Intel, OSX 10.6.3).
Problem is, every time I try ("from" iMac "to" MacBook Pro), my iMac IDs my MacBook Pro and asks for the passcode, I give it, it then asks for the passcode again, I give it again, then it churns away with the message that it's "looking for other computers". On and on and on and gets stuck in this mode.
I'm using ethernet between the two. Tried wireless also. Same issue. Downloaded the Migration & DVD/CD Sharing Update onto the iMac; it's already on the MacBook Pro. Same problem persists.
Any suggestions? (among the ten zillion firewire cables I have, none fits the MacBook Pro, so haven't tried firewire yet).
    Thanks.

  • Missing photos in iPhoto, also missing in Time Machine

Today I just noticed that 1000s of my photos are missing from iPhoto. All photos are missing previous to mid-May 2011 when I believe I upgraded iPhoto '08 to iPhoto '11.
They are also missing from all my Time Machine backups going back to Jan 2011 which makes me fear the worst. I have scanned using Data Rescue 3 (as suggested in an archived thread) but I don't see anything recoverable.
    I am running:
    - iPhoto 9.1.1
    - MacOS X 10.6.8
Any advice on other things to try?
    Rick

I just want everything from the old computer to be on the new computer, so I don't feel like I need to merge the libraries.
You will need the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager only to merge libraries. If you do not need to merge anything, you can skip that step.
So just try, if copying to an external disk and then to your new mac as Old Toad recommended will do the trick and transfer everything safely.
