Default Program for Viewing Images?

I want to download and try the Photoshop Album Starter Edition while updating my Adobe Reader. BUT, if I don't like it I want to be able to return to using my Windows Photo Gallery. Does the Photoshop Starter Edition automatically set itself as the DEFAULT program for viewing pictures, etc? If so, how do I reset it to my Windows Photo Gallery or other program? Thanks!

To set some program other than Photoshop Album Starter Edition as your default program for viewing images of a particular format, say .jpeg, right click on any .jpeg image and then select "Open with" and then "Choose Program. In the open with dialog box select the application that you want to use for viewing .jpeg images and check the check box at the bottom of the dialog box which says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

Viewing images in Finder

I am a new to Macs after years on PCs. My question concerns viewing images in the Finder. In Windows XP you can open a folder of images and the number of thumbnails in the column automatically adjusts to fit the width of the window. Now you can scroll up and down to view what is in the folder.
On my Mac, when I open a folder of images in the finder I have to scroll side to side as well as up and down to see the thumbnails. Is there anyway to set the view so it adjusts itself automatically? I know I can use the slider to adjust the size of the icons to fit, but this seems like another needless step to take.

There is a lot online, if you can find it or use Apple Support site map - Mac 101, Switch etc but I am old school and like to have reference books for any OS

When searching for an image in Finder on iMac, I found hundreds of images of printers !! All sorts of printer images which I certainly haven't loaded on.I went to Finder, File, Find and Image and there they are, hundreds,if not low thousands of them.

I was searching for an image on my Imac and when I went to Finder,File,Find and then Image, I found hundreds if not early thousand images of printers ! Amazing in one way but I didn't put them on my machine and don't really want them there.Did they come pre-loaded? Can I delete them safely? Thanks

Almost certainly, no absolutely not once you start deleting stuff like this that you think is not needed, eventually you'll trash something essential and cause yourself a lot of heartache.
There are numerous files classed as images, some will be temporary files in browser caches, others system files, others your "real" images, others files which are not really images but appear to be.
The amount of space of what I presume are essentially icons of printers will will be minimal, lets say these images are 5k in size (I guess they are much smaller?) and there are 1,000 of them, thats only 5Mb. No doubt your disk has multiple gigabytes free, eg thousands of times as much free as you'd save by deleting all of them. So you might gain back an extra 0.0001% disk space*. NOt worth the time, let alone the risk, plus then you'll get into a mindset "hmm, I dont think I can possibly need this 23byte file either I'll delete that as well etc, and then "problem......".
Where are the images stored? It may be that at some time you were searching for a new printer and these images are from that exercise (though I doubt you looked at thousands?) in which case they are in your browser cache and you can always delete that through the browser, but that space will be overwritten by other images anyway.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a motto to work by with computers.
*( or, if you really do need the (say) 5MB of disk space back because you are running out, this would only be a very temporary solution and that wont have done you any good)

Better zoom method for viewing image

Why can't they have the same type system as in Elements or full ps? Control + or - to change size and smaller jumps in size. And keep the same style slider thingy in both develop and library modules.
And of course ability to separate panels on another monitor. Image size is EVERYTHING when you're trying to make adjustments.

Ctrl + and = (which has - on it also) zoom in and out through the 4 zoom levels visible in the Navigator. If you require the final zoom to be larger than the default 2:1, then select it from the dropdown and LR remembers this for the final zoom..
As to the difference between Quick Develop and Develop, Quick Develop does RELATIVE adjustments, which are there for quick settings. It's useful for brightening images which have different exposure settings for example, where doing the same in Develop would force them all to the same ABSOLUTE value. The idea is to use it to help get to the Pick files quickly before Developing these files. There's no sense in developing 1000 files when you ultimately will only bring 10-20 top quality ones out at the end.
As to image size, Try Tab and Shift TAB.

Graphic Image for Folder Image in Finder

I have created a few folders in finder\applications to group apps together. For example, I have created a folder for iLife apps. When I open Applications, the iLife group shows as a plain folder image labeled iLife. I would like to customize the folder image by adding my own graphic. Is there a way to do this? View options only lets me choose a photo for the background which is not what I want.

OK, I used to do this manually by slected Arrangeby name form the view menu, since you mentioned it i have now selected view by name through the View Options menu item not sure if that will make a difference,

Problem for viewing Image and "\n" on Alert

I made a Midlet MIDP 1.0 CLDC 1.0 that have an Image on Alert class;

On Nokia Phones (I've tried Series 40 e 60) the result is that I view on text area Information and near of it (but cutted) the image.
Why?
I have another question:
If I use on Alert class
al.setString("MyApp\nMyName");
within or eithout image On Nokia phones the "\n" idn't considered.
Both problems in others phones (I've tried Motorola and Sony-Ericsson) aren't.
Why?

I really appreciate the interest you've both taken in the question.
Yes, J Maloney you would be correct. I was wanting to see the whole of the image, the masked bits and the not masked bits... as well as the mask too all simultaneously.
I'm currently kicking myself that I've not explored the Masks panel. Don't know when it was introduced, I have kind of skipped a version of PhotoShop or two on my own machine - lame excuse, I know gov. The density idea is far more elegant than my solution. However, I did find that by creating the duplicate I've been able to colourise it so as to make the results of what I was doing really obvious visually. I like the invert idea too, so simple - and it might prove the best of the options... but I'll try it on another image as I've pretty much done this one - lots of hats, not much hair.
No offence on the "last paragraph". My reaction was "it's not unasked" though I wasn't clear: "How do sensible people approach this exercise?"

"Quick Mask?" occurred randomly to me. Something I've never bothered with, tending to go straight to Layer Mask work. I'll own up that Quick Mask has never managed to make itself part of my workflow, I've no idea why because I'm sure it should if I gave it time. However, a quick experiment hasn't produced a Eureka moment. I was hoping I could easily subtract or add a Quick Mask from/to an existing Layer Mask... nope, doesn't seem to want to - though it was a 'quick' experiment.

Looking for a Hi Res solution for viewing images and for capturing video

We are looking to complete some training videos that utilize a microscope, a Sony Firewire camera (1/3-inch Progressive Scan Color CCD 1024x768 Pixel Array). I want to capture the video on a macbook (imovie or FCE) and be able to make some training DVDs.
In addition, I need to purchase a monitor (cinema display??) that would allow people to view the manipulation from the microscope.
Whay type of setup am I looking at ? Will the Apple Cinema display work for this and give a hi res image on it?
I am not familar with the displays or the desired setup (the video out on the macbook be acceptable as the video comes in from the camera or does the camera go directly to the monitor?

What we need to know is that microscope have a video out or practically you use the Sony to capture the video thru microscope using custom tripod or camera holder?
If using you Sony is the case, then you can use iMovie for that, and you can view it "live" while you capture (import) it by selecting the input menu to your sony like shown here by EZJIM:

And you can mirror the screen from macbook to bigger external screen using mini DVI adapter. There are three option mini dvi to vga, mini dvi to dvi, and mini dvi to video, and if you want to use apple cinema display I believe you have to buy the mini dvi to dvi.
And apple said that macbook can drive up to 23" cinema display with 1440 x 900 resolution, but other user on macbook forum reportedly can use with other bigger screen and bigger resolution as well.
Best way is you visit apple store and buy that adapter and have it tested with both 23" and 30" (I believe apple guy won't mind considering you are a potential cinema display buyer).

Missing ID file for 1049 image card and JAI-M10bx camera?

IMAQ examples have code for JAI-M10 camera.
i got a JAI-M10/bx model.
ni-1409 image card.
However my PC/win200 with Labview-7& Imaq don't offer
an *.ICD file to setup that camera.
i am trying to setup a dual camera system with two
1409 cards.
where/how can i get the ICD file?

I noticed in your post that you mention you have an analog image acquisition board (PCI-1409) and that you are looking for an .ICD file for your camera. ICD files are used only for digital cameras, there are equivalent files called .IID files for analog cameras that work in much the same way. There is however one big difference between analog and digital cameras. Digital cameras are usually custom designed, and as a result require a custom configuration file (.ICD file). Analog cameras generally adhere to a standard (NTSC, PAL, RS170, CCIR) and as a result there is no need to create a custom file for each camera, instead, you can just use one of the generic .IID files that come preinstalled with the NI-IMAQ driver.
I took a look at JAI's website, an
d it appears that the model of camera that you are using (JAI-M10BX) comes in two formats, CCIR and RS170 (also called EIA). Your documentation should clarify which format you are using. To set your camera to the appropriate format, open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and click on the channel of your 1409 board that your camera is hooked to. Right-click on this channel and select Camera » CCIR or Camera » rs170 depending on which format your camera uses. This should get your camera working properly.

Cannot update Flash due to missing plugin "application/getplusplusadobe16291"

I have the current version of Firefox and am trying to update Flash Player. The top of the Adobe download page shows missing plugins required to view all the content. When I try to install the missing plugins, they are listed as unknown with the above text. When I try to manually install and open gp.xpi it says it already exists and I say to replace and try to open the download and Adobe Reader says it cannot open because it is unsupported or has been damaged.

How to view image by using webcam at other computer.

I am student. Now I make one project by using LabVIEW software.
Now, my question is:
I have two computer, both computer got install software LabVIEW. And the programming for viewing image by using webcam already finished done.
Now is, I want to open Webcam at computer B from Computer A. I already search, found that techique "Web Publishing Tools" can do this. Beside this, got another easier technique to do this?

Mozilla Firefox is not finding "missing plugins" when I know Adobe Reader is required for the site, specifically Blackboard for UT Austin. What is going on?

I have the latest version of Ubuntu on an Asus laptop (netbook) with an Intel® Atom™ CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz × 2. Firefox came with Ubuntu, but for some strange reason, when I go to blackboard to view something in PDF and I try to install the missing Adobe Reader plugin, Firefox says it "can't find any suitable plugins". What is going on?

Try opening your "package manager"/synaptic and search for "acroread"
Install it. Try again with firefox. Also try with cromium and opera.
One prof needed all three browsers on different sections of blackboard..nightmare.
So you know, blackboard sucks bad for linux...you have to do a lot of work to make it work correctly if your professor uses it poorly.
Try accessing the files like this:
- instead of going to the "courses" tab,
- choose "content collection" tab
- then open "course content" folder
- then you should see the list of documents
Also you may have to switch back and forth with cromium/opera

forgot to add, the "blackboard IM" does work if you install the package "wine". You have to use an older version of the IM than the current and don't use the upgrade nag unless you're a lucky sob.

Sky Player - I am trying to register for the service but it says I have missing plugins but Firefox can't find any

I am trying to sign-up to Sky Player however I cannot do so because when I press the 'sign-up' button on the web page it refuses to take me to next page and the Firefox has a banner saying 'missing plugins'. When I click on that Firefox cannot find the missing plugins! I manually download some but it makes no difference.
Had similar problems in the past with other sites and end up have to use IE instead!

Viewing photos/images in Finder

Hi,
I've been transferring photos onto an external hard drive which is going fine.
Suddenly though, in Finder it's no longer previewing the photos when you scroll through without opening the file, just an icon with 'jpeg' as shown below.
How do I change it back?
There are a lot of duplications on the external that I want to clean up and without being able to simply scroll through and see the photo it's going to take forever to sort out.

Let thje system run for a while so it can index those files and build a thumbnail database of them. You then may be able to view them in finder.
But I must say that if all the image files are numbered like in your screen shot it will be simple to find dups of those files, the numbers are the same.
