Missing Pro App Folder

Can anyone tell me why I might be missing the "pro app" folder my "applications support" folder and how I might get it back? I'm trying to upload the EOS plug-in so that I might directly import my DSLR footage into FCP and I need to make a manipulation to this file once it is downloaded. From what I've read the file will be in the "pro app" folder. For some reason it doesn't exist.
Thanks in advance...

Make sure to look in your main LIBRARY folder. There are three...and this can be maddening. There's one in the HARD DRIVE (that's the one you want), one in your HOME directory, and one inside the SYSTEM folder.
Just open the HARD DRIVE, then LIBRARY...then you should see APPLICATION SUPPORT, then ProApps. Then MIO, RAD, PLUGINS.
to be specific...

  • ITunes thinks I'm new user every day + App folder missing

For the last 7 days or so (I have not installed anything new on my computer) I have a problem that every morning when I run iTunes (v10) it thinks I'm a new user. I get the welcome screen and it goes through some options of managing your files etc. Once iTunes runs I'm also missing my "Apps" folder under "Library".
This has never happened before and I have had iTunes for a long while. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit, if that's at all relevant.
Please help! This is driving me mad LOL!
Thanks in advance for any help

Your auto complete problem is a little baffling. Check Mail->Preferences then the Viewing tab and see if Use Smart Addresses is checked. It probably is, so I'm probably not going to be able to be much help about that one.
LDAP is awesome. It allows you to connect to your mail server to search for email addresses. Rather than go through a directory at your work, you can just start typing a name or an email address and the LDAP will search for how to complete it. This is without anything being in your Address Book. Whether this works is up to how your mail server is set up. It works well enough at my iMac at work that there are almost no contacts in my Address Book. I just end up relying on the LDAP working.
Not having this configured probably isn't messing up your auto-complete however.
Your auto-response is easier (and harder). You'll set up a new rule. Go to Mail->Preferences. Then go to the Rules tab. You'll want to add a rule. You can do all kinds of crazy stuff with this, but you'll probably just want to set it up such at Any message with the Date Received is less than 1 Day gets a Reply to Message. You can then specify your message.
You can play around with this by making it auto-reply to messages only if you are the sender. This way you don't accidentally tell a bunch of folks your are gone (I just did that by the way).
This is probably obvious, but this sets things at YOUR machine, not your mail SERVER. I forget which way other programs work, but with this method your computer will have to be on and Mail must be running to use the auto-respond.
There may be another way to do things. I hope that's not too much of a party killer. You may have better luck asking your email provider how to get that set up since it is a matter of a server setting.

  • Firefox won't insall into my applications folder. Says can't install because libsmime3.dylib is in use. I am running Mac Os 10.6.7 on a Macbook Pro. I can run firefox okay from the disk image but just won't install into the apps folder.

My system is a Macbook Pro running Mac Os 10.6.7 with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 duo processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ram. The upgrade downloads fine, but when I try to drag the firefox image onto my appication folder, I get a dialogue box that says...Cannot install application because "libsmime3.dylib" is in use. I can run Firefox fine from the disk image.

Nope---didn't work. I've owned Macs for about 12 years so although I am brain dead on some things, I do have a working knowledge on most things. I only say that to say this--I did try holding down the mouse and choosing empty trash. It asks if I want to permanently delete what's in there. I say yes--and then I get the same identical message again-----'The operation can't be completed because the item "Firefox 8.0.1.dmg" is in use I can then click stop, or continue.' So apparently that complains the same way it does if I click it up on the menu :)))
As for item owned by---that's not an issue and isn't coming up. User is not a problem either as I am the only user on this system. There is only ONE file in my trash at the moment at that is this dmg file. Nothing Mac. Nothing owned by anyone other than Firefox. The problem seems to be that the dmg file and the original 4.0 FF file are working in tandem with each other--even though I have already drug the new 8.0 globe into the Apps folder and it updated the FF app with the new stuff. If I could force the dmg file to go away, I would do so, but at every turn the system is telling me it can't be done because it seems to think that dmg file is in use---even though everything is shut down and/or ejected. Hey--I'm getting ready to head out and won't be back till evening. I'll check back in this evening. Thank you again for your help.

  • Cannot copy acrobat pro 9 app folder to applications directory

have uninstalled acrobat pro 9 because of failure to recognize new scanner.  Now cannot copy app folder from DVD into applications folder.

    Hi Janice,
What version of Mac OS are you using?
Adobe does not recommend migrating the software from one disk to the other.
Please run the setup file for Acrobat and reinstall the software. You might want to delete the existing version of Acrobat installed before reinstalling it.

The QT X v10.1 app installs in your "Applications folder and QT 7 v7.6.6 (whether keyed for "Pro" use or not) is installed in the "Applications/Utilities" folder. It is recommended you keep them in these locations so they will continue to update correctly/automatically.

  • What folder do pro app software updates go to

Hello, I wanted to know if anyone knows where these pro app updates go? I want to check what I've downloaded so far. And, if I already downloaded something and I download it again, does it just replace the previous one?
    thx

Open your system drive and go to the top level Library>Receipts. All updates are there.
Even if it looks like you have more than one take a close look at the version updates.

  • Move Mobile Apps Folder To External Drive?

    Hi guys,
I've got a MacBook Pro running Lion with all the latest software / updates.  This has become my secondary machine (since buying a lovely 27" iMac), and I'm using iTunes Match to keep both the MacBook Pro and iMac's iTunes libraries in sync.
Now that I sync my iPhone and iPad to the iMac, I don't have much need for the Mobile Apps folder on my MacBook Pro.  I have a lot of apps, so my Mobile Apps folder is ~50 gigs, and it's suddenly one of the larger items on the MacBook Pro's drive.  Would it be possible to relocate this folder to my external drive for the MacBook Pro?  I found an older suggestion (to move the Mobile Apps folder, and create a shortcut in the iTunes folder pointing back to me new location), but this didn't work at all.
Is this do-able?  As as alternate, can I just delete all the Apps from my MacBook Pro's iTunes library (from within the app) without screwing up the syncing or (via iTunes Match) inadvertantly deleting them all from the iMac as well?
    Thanks!

How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu.
You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed.
When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

  • Why does my WD2GO Pro app keep shutting down when I'm trying to access a file?

Ive invested in a WD My Book Live 2TB network hard drive and the associated WD2GO Pro app for the ipad.
This is great for tiny files (1-2mb) but anything over 20mb make the app shut down.
Why is the ipad shutting down?  Cant it show a PDF over a certain size?
I know I can open it in other programmes (PDF by corporate smalltalk) but WD2GO provides the facility to create a URL link to the hard drive, thus allowing me to email this link to clients / printers etc.
The silly thing is that if Im really quick I can send the link but if Im longer than about 4 seconds the app shuts down.
    Frustrating isnt the word!
Hope someone somewhere out there has an idea.  Just please dont say that the new Ipad solves this problem as Ill be (forced) into upgrading lol

Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder then the com.apple.safari folder. Move the Cache.db file (might say ApplicationCache.db) to the Trash.
Try Safari. If it crashes again, follow the instructions for uninstalling then reinstalling Flash >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    Restart your Mac Try Safari.

  • "Audio Music Apps" Folder

I recently upgraded to Logic Pro 10.0.7, I migrated from Logic Pro 9 before and have used Logic X ever since it came out.
If I try to load a Channel Strip Setting in the Mixer view, the menu is now completely empty, with all the Logic and Garage Band settings in a "Old Versions" subfolder. After doing some research I found out there are now three locations where settings are saved:
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/
    ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/
    ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/
Saving new Channel Strip Settings defaults to folder 3. Content in folder 1 seems to appear in the "old versions" menu within Logic.
Is there any documentation about these folders and how they're used by Logic? Is it save to move my content to the "Audio Music Apps" folder, so that my settings appear at the top level menu again? Is it save to delete folders 1 and 2?
I'm currently on OS X 10.9.4, Late 2013 Retina MBP (2.6 GHz, 8 GB RAM)

First of all, DON'T DELETE FOLDER 1. This is a system folder that you should not touch.
Folder 2. and 3. are technically the same folder. They are pointing to the same files/folder on the hard drive. Try this: have bothe windows open and move a file into the Patches folder in one window. It will appear also on the other folder. Move a file into the Drummer folder. It will appear in the other folder too.
Leave Folder 2. It is just for compatibility reasons for Logic 9. If you delete it, the files would still be in the "Audio Music Apps", but you would have no access to them from Logic 9.
Everything you do in LPX, GarageBand X and MainStage happens in the same "Audio Music Apps". They all access now the same folder. This makes file management so much easier for the three apps because they don't need their separate Library directory anymore.
I explain that ned concept throughout in great details throughout my manual "Logic Pro X - How it Works". Here is just a screenshot from the Library chapter that discusses all those different settings files (Patch, Channel Strip Settings, Plugin Settings, EXS Instrument)
    Hope that helps

  • Problems after updating to last Pro Apps version

    Hi.
I have installed recently the last Pro Apps update and after that no one of the Final Cut Studio applications open.
I heard a long ago that it happened when you have a "pirate" serial number, but I've got a legal copy with a valid sn, so is not related to that.
I have tried to remove the Final Cut Studio System ID for FCP to ask me for the serial number again, but it doesn't work.
I have tried to remove all the files from FCP ( including all on user's preferences and on hard disk's Library folder ) and reinstall the application, but it doesn't work.
What else I can do? I don't want to reinstall the whole system because there's something wrong at the last Pro Apps update.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tomtzart

The new system 10.4.10 update has been a big hassle for me and nothing but trouble. This started with a couple of severe system crashes, the computer would not restart until I disconnected all peripherals. I then discovered that there were problems with Aperture crashes when I did some research on MacFixit to find out what had happened with my computer.
I then decided to try to see if Aperture would open, and sure enough, it crashed, along with all the other Pro Apps. So, again, I did some research and found the following information at Mac OS Hints. I am actually on a Power PC, not an Intel Mac.
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-55278.html
    SOLUTION:
The solution to this problem (snip), is to get the Universal version of ProKit.Framework (v3.1.1) either from your Intel-based Tiger install DVD (via pacifist [Google it]) that came with your Intel-mac, OR download it from the following URL:
    http://www1.chapman.edu/~wayla100/ProKit.zip
BE SURE TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS AFTER REPLACING/INSTALLING THE ProApp.Framework file into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
I unzipped the file, and took the offending folder out of the PrivateFrameworks Library and then replaced it with the equivalent folder which I had unzipped. After having repaired permissions as instructed, I have launched Aperture, and then I opened the Aperture Library file, and it is now reloading all my pictures.
I assume that this procedure has corrected the issue with all the other Pro Apps.
I hope this is as much use to you as it was to me.

  • XCode creating complex .app folder?

Please bear with me here. I'm new to OSX and my C++ skills are really rusty.
I've created a simple command-line application using XCode. It's a Carbon C++ application. When I build my project, it creates a lot of stuff in this complicated .app folder structure. Do I really need all that or can I just grab MyApp and remove it, ignoring the .nib files and .strings files and the .lproj file, etc.
For instance, when I list the folder contents:
    *My-Mac:MyApp.app sneakyimp$ ls -Rl*
    *total 0*
    *drwxr-xr-x 6 sneakyimp admin 204 Apr 12 13:29 Contents*
    ./Contents:
    *total 16*
    *-rw-r--r-- 1 sneakyimp admin 713 Apr 12 13:29 Info.plist*

    *-rw-r--r-- 1 sneakyimp admin 8 Apr 12 13:29 PkgInfo*
    *drwxr-xr-x 3 sneakyimp admin 102 Apr 12 13:29 Resources*
    ./Contents/MacOS:
    *total 2400*
    *-rwxr-xr-x 1 sneakyimp admin 1225700 Apr 12 14:58 MyApp*
    ./Contents/Resources:
    *total 0*
    *drwxr-xr-x 4 sneakyimp admin 136 Apr 12 13:29 English.lproj*
    ./Contents/Resources/English.lproj:
    *total 8*
    *-rw-r--r-- 1 sneakyimp admin 92 Apr 12 13:29 InfoPlist.strings*
    *drwxr-xr-x 3 sneakyimp admin 102 Apr 12 13:29 main.nib*
    ./Contents/Resources/English.lproj/main.nib:
    *total 24*
    *-rw-r--r-- 1 sneakyimp admin 11033 Apr 12 13:29 objects.xib*
What is the reason for all the other stuff?

    sneakyimp wrote:
I'm not sure what you mean by "C++ skills are not what you need".
Some people just get hung up on the C++ language. That is a very specific language that is very rarely used on Macs any more. It isn't used anywhere much any more. If you want to build applications, you may need to know about the C language, compilers, linkers, environments, and OS runtimes.
To get things working I did a bit of googling because I wasn't really sure what 'missing symbol' errors meant. I now understand it means that you have referred to some object which has not been defined by a library or in your own code.
It sounds like you are getting the hang of it.
I found a post explaining the exact error I was having which described how to search for the right file to include using spotlight and also a step to add the CoreServices framework code to my project.
You probably don't need spotlight for this stuff.
What I still need to come to grips with is the mind-boggling array of different libraries available to XCode and how I should go about finding the right library to include for a given function. For instance, how did you know that MPProcessors lives in CoreServices? Is that just from experience or is there some kind of search technique I can learn? I googled MProcessors hoping that I might find some library documentation or something (which I did not).
I looked up MPProcessors in the Xcode documentation. Click API and All Document Sets. Then start typing in the search field. When you see the function you want, click on it. The main window will show details about the function. Scroll to the top of that window and you can see what library you need to link with next to "Framework". That is what I did.
I also am wrestling with the fact that the Project tree need not have any real relation to the include statements I write. I.e., my project has a suitcase-looking folder labeled CoreServices.framework which contains two folders, Headers and Frameworks. The file CoreServices.h is in the Headers folder. But instead of including <CoreServices/Headers/CoreServices.h>, I include <CoreServices/CoreServices.h>.
Yes. Just don't worry about it. That is how "Frameworks" work.

  • Trouble with App Folder

Hi, i've got some trouble with my app folder on my macbook pro mid-2012. The app folder doesn't seem to be recognized as the App Folder. In the dock the icon of the folder is just a ordinary blue folder (without the "A" symbol on it). And it's exactly the same in the sidebar in the Finder, it's not the "A" but a standard folder icon. But the thing is that the Launchpad doesn't recognize the App Folder anymore. If i add an app in the folder, it doesn't show up in the Launchpad. Same if i delete an app, it doesn't disappear in the Launchpad.
Everything worked great when i bought the mac. And few months after, without any reason, it started messing around.
I was using OS X Lion at this time, and with every updates, it didn't get better. I'm now running OS X Yosemite Beta and the problem fixed by itself when i updated from Yosemite Beta 1 to Beta 2. But it went back after a reboot.
I don't know if i'm clear enough but if someone knows how to bring back the original behavior of the App Folder it would be awesome.
PS: sorry for my english i'm french

Did you try the disk utility? :

By the way, you should post this in the Yosemite Beta forums...

  • Pro Apps Won't Launch

Well this is a fine "hello" for a busy Friday morning!
I booted my Mac and none of my Pro Apps will launch. Last night everything was running fine.
This morning, I double-click on the FCP, STP, DVDSP, etc. icons in a Finder window or click the icon in the Dock and the apps won't launch. The icon zooms out as normal, in the Dock the little arrow shows up for about one second, and then it stops. It's like it's looking for some file to launch the app, can't find it, and then cancels the launch. Frustrating.
Other apps still launch just fine. System hardware appears to be all appearing as normal in System Profiler - no missing RAM, PCI cards, or other devices.
I rebuilt permissions. I optimized the libraries. I reinstalled the last FCP 5.1.1 updater and ProApps updater packages. Finally I restored my FCP prefs with FCP Rescue 5.
    No go.
I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas short of reinstalling my whole ProApps package from scratch?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, this is interesting. I shut down the Mac for 90 minutes. When I came back to it, all my Pro Apps are now working just fine. H'mmm.
Below is the CrashReporter log for the last failed attempt to launch FCP. The logs for the previous launch attempts all look pretty much the same as this one to me.
But I will admit to knowing nada about reading these things.
