Missing profiles folder and files

Hi all,
I had the damn "snap-do" malware on my Firefox, so I tried uninstalling FF completely and then re-installing it to fix the problem... but that just led to the issue of Firefox now not being able to find my old profile.
I am currently getting the error message;
"Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."
I know there are plenty of other threads regarding this issue but they all point to the direction of creating a new profile using the following method: "Launch the Run dialog box, type in: firefox.exe -p ...".
When I try this though I get the same error as before.
In short, I absolutely cannot find the "profile.ini" file, and am assuming it no longer exists on my system.
Can anyone help?

Hello,
Reinstalling Firefox doesn't normally solve anything, as most problems are confined to the profile. You can use the Reset Firefox feature instead, which preserves essential data like bookmarks and passwords.
* [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]
# Press the Windows logo orb on the taskbar to bring up the Start Menu.
# In the search box, type the following then press Enter: '''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\'''
# In the Windows Explorer window that opens, you should see the ''profiles.ini'' file.
# If the file is missing, you can create it manually in Notepad. The contents should look something like the following, substituting the example profile folder name with your actual profile folder name.
<pre><nowiki>[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/2htx1693.default</nowiki></pre>

  • What is this folder and files doing in my Temporary folder? Is it a trojan or similar data miner?

    Hi,
    I have located this folder and files in my C:Temp Directory(Normally C:Windows/temp).
    CompatTelemetryLogs with
    AppAndDeviceInventory.log right next to it.
    and the following inside the folder.
    Folder = "IMG" lots of little image files of all my software
    Folder = "Resources" with nothing in it.
    Files:
    CompatData_2014_10_17_06_04_14_1_008001ff.xml
    compatscancache.dat
    DeviceGroupingRules.xml

    Not sure about all of these but I did a search for this one: "TelemetryTransform.xsl" and one entry was this below(except I do not have any office program installed form MS, I use Open Office) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219431%28v=office.15%29.aspx
    And this one: "Windows_TelemetryData.xml"

    I am not attempting to install windows 8? at all so why this is coming up is beyond me I am using Win7 64 Pro and am quite happy with that version.
    Is all of this just some attempt at someone to install windows 8 on my system through the comcast internet system?
    I also have now searched for the file that was next to the folder: "AppAndDeviceInventory.log" and got this:
    http://www.exclusive-networks.be/Vendors/mobileiron/
    It looks like someone is or has installed an application to make my windows send data over the internet or network. Making my entire windows system hosed with this. Or has someone any idea of how to get rid of it?
    Thanks ahead!

    Hi,
    These files are just some temporary file created by using the system. You could delete them manually via disk cleanup:

  • How do I specify folder and file options for memory cards in LR4?

    Hello!
    I have read the sections Set import and file-handling preferences and Specify Auto Import settings in the manual. But they don't seem to answer my question. The other stuff that's written about importing files in Lightroom seem to only cover the import of photos to the Lightroom catalog, which is not my primary concern, although I do want them imported to the catalog as well. But before the photos can go to the Lightroom catalog they need to be improted, in other words copied over from the memory card to the local disk drive. Simply put, all I want is for Lightroom to take over the responsibility from Canon EOS Utility and behave the same way when importing/copying files to the local disk drive. How do I set up Lightroom to do just that?
    I just want this type of folder and file structure:
    J:\2010_08_02\IMG_0037.JPG
    J:\2010_08_02\IMG_0039.JPG
    J:\2010_08_22\IMG_0372.CR2
    J:\2010_08_22\IMG_0372.JPG
    J:\2010_11_29\IMG_1405.CR2
    J:\2010_11_29\IMG_1405.JPG
    J:\2011_06_17\IMG_2887.CR2
    J:\2011_06_17\IMG_2887.JPG
    ... etc!
    1. First things first, where the heck do I specify the destination folder for new photos?
    There is an option titled Show import dialog when a memory card is detected under the General tab in Preferences, but there is no folder destination option associated with this.
    2. How do I tell Lightroom to leave original file names as they are (i.e. IMG_2887.CR2) and place them in a new sub-folder (i.e. 2011_06_17) of the destination folder (J:\) named after the capture date of the photo (July 17, 2011)?
    There are a few options under the File Handling tab in the Preferences, but they don't seem to concern the importation of files to the local disk drive.
    3. This maybe should have been the first question really; is Lightroom capable of importing files from the camera or a card reader to the local disk drive at all?
    I sure would expect it to be able to do that, but from the looks of it I am not too confident about that.
    For starters I would like it to just copy my photo files, either directly from camera or from a card reader to a destination folder of my choice, in the same fashion that Canon EOS Utility does it. I don't wat to just import the files to the Lightroom catalog and start working with the files directly from camera or memory card. Hell no! It's not an external disk drive for God's sake!
    Please advise!

    I'm not sure how it is now, but there used to be a dedicated "photo downloader" in Adobe Photoshop Elements at least up to version 6. Is this still part of Photoshop Elements? Or is it just available in Adobe Bridge? I don't remember though if it only imported files to the local disk drive or if it also added them to the library/catalog.
    I've tested Downloader Pro and Lightroom 4 now for importing the photos to local disk drive. I also tested one application called Cam2PC Image Downloader.
    The latter is actually called Cam2PC Image Browser and as its name suggests it's a software for browsing and doing basic changes to the photos, an image organizer. But it has a dedicated downlaoder called Cam2PC Image Downloader that can be very useful for importing photos. It comes either as a payed version or a freeware version.
    I also tested one called Smart Photo Import. This one could be a good alternative to Downloader Pro, but I think it still needs many improvements, and it lacks a lot of the functionality of Downloader Pro. But to be fair, this does cost half as much as Downloader Pro (13 EUR or 17 USD compared to 30 USD).
    I am most impressed by Downloader Pro. It has everything I could ask for really. But I was most impressed by its speed. I've done a simple speed test to see which one is faster and here are the results.
    Downloader Pro
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: 21,25 MB/s
    Time: 02:58.6
    Lightroom 4
    Set to render "Standard" previews
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: N/A
    Time: 03:41.7
    Compared to Downloader Pro: 78% done at 02:58.6
    Rendering time: 04:35.5
    Total: 08:16.12
    Cam2PC Image Downloader
    324 files (162 JPG & 162 CR2)
    Max speed: N/A
    Time: 03:30.6
    The max speed is the maximum transfer speed that ever occured during the transfer, and this is not something that the application is showing on it's own, it's the highest speed that I have seen with my own eyes. Unfortunately the other applications had no way of showing the speed, only Downloader Pro could show the speed. That's why it says N/A (as in not available).
    As you can see Downloader Pro did the same job in shortest amount of time. Note that I could be transfering 2 or 3 cards worth of photos for the time it takes Lightroom to transfer just one.
    The memory card was full when I started the test. It was a 4 GB Sandisk Ultra 30 MB/s card. The card reader was a Lexar USB 3.0 Professional. Although it was connected to a USB 2.0 port on Intel chipset motherboard (Intel X38, ICH9R). The destination folder was set to Desktop\(name of the application) on a Seagate 500 GB SATA (ST3500320AS) disk. All done on a Windows Vista PC with SP2.
    One way to make Lightroom do this job more quickly is to choose "minimum" as previews rendering option. This way it doesn't spend as much time rendering the photos after being copied to the disk drive. Now, I have not tested this but I believe that Lightroom can start a second import of a second memory card whilst the first one is being copied. I'm not sure how it would affect the speed though, and you would need two card readers for this.
    I wish I could skip rendering previews alltogether. I like to leave adding photos to the catalog and rendering previews for the last step. This is because it takes so long time and I like to use 1:1 previews, so I like leaving Lightroom to do this job in the morning or over the night.
    I have learned to use prests now in the import dialog of Lightroom. So now it should not be a problem if I always want to copy new photos to the same location. If this location is changed I can recall it simply by choosing my preset. This is very handy.
    All in all, Lightroom is very good at importing photos from camera or from a memory card reader to the local disk drive. But it's now my preferred way of importing photos to the computer. Which is why I have decided to purchase Downloader Pro. Thanks all for your help. I appreciate it!

  • Where within CS6 Photoshop will I find the folder and file to clear the scratch disk on my harddrive ???

    Where is the folder (and file) to erase the scratch disk ...

    There is no such folder.
    The scratch file gets erased as soon as you close the file that was using it.
    The rule of thumb I follow to figure out scratch space says to figure on 50 to 100 times the size of your largest file ever multiplied by the number of files you have open.  I have seen the scratch file exceed 800 GB once, an admittedly rare occurrence, but it often exceeds 200 GB when stitching large panoramas and the like.
    As an example—and stressing that I'm aware that others have even more scratch space than I do—I keep two dedicated, physically separate hard drives as my primary and secondary Photoshop scratch disks and a lot of GB free on my boot drive for the OS.  I also have 16 GB of RAM installed.
    Additionally, if you only have a single HD, i.e. your boot drive, you'd need it to be large enough to accommodate both the swap files of the OS as well as Photoshop's scratch.

    The items you are missing are not included in the backup.  They get synced to the iPod from the iTune library during a latter stage of the update.  It appears that the items were not in the iTunes library.

    Yesterday I was trying to install the postgresql package from (http://web.mac.com/dru_satori/iWeb/PostgreSQLforMac/Welcome.html). Actually I had an older version of their package, i uninstalled it, tried installing the new package, but kept receiving errors that the installation was not correct.
    Now the point of this question, as I was doing the above, i started to notice that some files (either on my desktop or in a folder window) are not showing the icon. Only the label is showing! when I click on such a file, the file disappear (i mean even the label is gone).
    I have completed permission repairs, disk repairs. I also noticed that this is only happening in my account, but not that of other accounts on this computer, which indicates that this is a problem in my home directory. I have also re-lunched the finder using the force quit window. I have also trashed the com.apple.finder.plist and logged out and then logged in again. I have just noticed that (pages) is asking for the serial number! I have this program installed months ago! It seems that some other files are also getting damaged!
    Is there something that I am missing? Is this a bug? is there any solution, because this is very annoying and it might indicate a bigger problem that I am not aware of.

    I also noticed that this is only happening in my account, but not that of other accounts on this computer, which indicates that this is a problem in my home directory.
    Good first troubleshooting step!
    Now log back into your normal user account: (In your case I would try preferences first)
    1. Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
    ( Likely suspects are Times RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
    ** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
    You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
       • Navigate to yourhome/library.
       • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
       • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
       • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
       • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
    Note:
    The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
    If the issue persists navigate to yourhome/library/caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.

  • Updates can affect my folder and files in mac computer?

    Can affect direct or indirect my saved folder or files under this program?

    It would have to be a MAJOR upgrade, or a MAJOR cock up on Adobe's part to cause it to "damage" files, or miss handle them when they are open and corrupt them when saving. Of course there is also the minor chance that if you upgrade one client to say PS 11.1 another client on PS 11.0 might have issues, but again not very likely. However as far as I am aware Illustrator hasn't actually had an update in CS4 yet. I may be wrong though?
    However we tend to ere on the side of caution and like yourselves don't update during a project, and leave a day of slack in the scheduling in case we have to re-install and go back to the version on the disc. Oh and only do one client at a time!

    StorageFolder sdcard = (await externalDevices.GetFoldersAsync()).FirstOrDefault(); //Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.LocalFolder;
    var dataFolder = await sdcard.CreateFolderAsync("RpgApp",
    CreationCollisionOption.OpenIfExists);
    var file = await dataFolder.CreateFileAsync(name+".html",
    CreationCollisionOption.ReplaceExisting);
    using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(await file.OpenStreamForWriteAsync()))
    writer.WriteLine("<html><head><title>Character File for " + z.charNameFirst + " " + z.charNameSecond + "</title></head><body>");
    //trimed for the post
    now this as i say works perfectly and i can confirm that the files show up in the "RpgApp"folder
    now the next step is to have the app read the names of each of those html files and create a seperate button for each one named for the filename and with the filename as content (later i will link them up to load the html file they are named for in a webbrowser
    panal)
    here is the code that *should* do that
    private async Task readFiles()
    z.test.Clear();
    StorageFolder externalDevices = Windows.Storage.KnownFolders.RemovableDevices;
    StorageFolder folder = (await externalDevices.GetFolderAsync("RpgApp"));
    IReadOnlyList<StorageFile> fileList = await folder.GetFilesAsync();
    //z.test.Add("dummy");
    foreach (StorageFile file in fileList)
    z.test.Add(file.Name);
    public async void buttonTest()
    await readFiles();
    CoreDispatcher dispatcher = CoreWindow.GetForCurrentThread().Dispatcher;
    await dispatcher.RunAsync(CoreDispatcherPriority.Normal, () =>
    foreach (string name in z.test)
    Button button1 = new Button();
    button1.Height = 75;
    button1.Content = name;
    button1.Name = name;
    testStackPanal.Children.Add(button1);
    now i say should as what i get is an error of "A first chance exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in mscorlib.ni.dll" (2 of them in fact one after another)
    more detailed error is at http://pastebin.com/3hBaZLQ9
    now i went through checking line after line to find the error and line that causes it is:
    StorageFolder folder = (await externalDevices.GetFolderAsync("RpgApp"));
    in the readFiles method
    i checked to make sure the case is right etc and its spot on, that IS the folder name, and remember my app creates that folder and creates the files that are inside that folder (and only files my app creates are in that folder) so it should have access
    im 100% stuck its taken me all day to get the files to save and now i cant get them to list correctly
    I have tested the button creation function with fake list data and that worked fine, as i say the error is when i tell it to look at the folder it created
    all help most greatfully recieved

    this was actually solved for me on another forum thread
    async Task<bool> continueToReadAllFiles(StorageFolder folder)
    if (folder == null)
    return false;
    if (folder.Name.Equals("RpgApp", StringComparison.CurrentCultureIgnoreCase))
    var files = await folder.GetFilesAsync();
    foreach (var file in files)
    test.Add(file.Name);
    return false;
    var folders = await folder.GetFoldersAsync();
    foreach (var child in folders)
    if (!await continueToReadAllFiles(child))
    return false;
    return true;
    public async void buttonTest()
    test.Clear();
    StorageFolder externalDevices = Windows.Storage.KnownFolders.RemovableDevices;
    var folders = await externalDevices.GetFoldersAsync();
    foreach (var folder in folders)
    if (!await continueToReadAllFiles(folder))
    break;
    //.... commented out
    ...now i say solved this is more a workaround...but it works.
    I would love to know why we cant just scan the RpgApp folder instead of having to scan the whole dc card and disregard all thats not in the RpgApp folder

  • Missing User settings and files after disabling Filevault on Lion

    I just installed OS X Lion on my mac and everything worked fine until I disabled the legacy filevault on my system. When the machine rebooted it had wipped out all my settings and files it would seem. After a bit of searching i found my files in the /Users directory. However the files are placed inside a folder called myusername.fvCopy. If I change any settings in my account like removing apps from the dock and reboot the changes haven't taken effect when it boots back up.
    I have no idea what to do about this.
    Any help is much apprciated.
    Thanks in advance
    /Kristian

    I fixed it by logging in to a different account and deleteting the broken homefolder via the terminal and renaming the myusername.fvCopy to myusername.

  • Admin, owner of folder cannot modify folder and file in it

    Hi,
    i've created a shared folder on Mac OS X Server.
    I'm the admin of Server.
    I've enabled me and other users to read/write in that shared folder.
    Now a subfolder (and file) created by other users sunder that main shared folder are READ-ONLY to me (and only to me) while all the other local network users can read and WRITE those subfolders/files.
    Why ???
    The odd is that if i click on these items the owner is ... me !!!
    Any hints ?
    Thanks

    Now i see it, thanks.
    It's odd: i see near to all users the disclosure triangle while me (owner) not has any disclosure triangle.
    I've added again my name and now disclosure triangle is avaible and i can setup also me ...
    But now i've 2 me users, one with disclosure triangle and one not ...
    I've also tried to change the me owner (wit no disclosure triangle)  (not in ACL panel) to leave only assigning the shared panel to me (with disclosure triangle) but when modify it all other users disappear ...
    hoping it's clear

  • Quickest way of Moving Folder and Files

    I am in the process of moving a lot of folders to another drive and it is taking a lot of time.   I am doing the move in LR Library now and one alternative is to move outside of LR and use the Add Catalog import option (don't know if this is any faster).
    Can you select multiple folders in LR Library to move to the same location or do you need to do one at a time? This would be onen benefit of doing it outside of LR.
    Any thoughts?

    yyy2moose writes:
    finding the correct catalog will be a little tricky but I am sure I can find it
    Then later, the same yyy2moose writes:
    FYI - One Catalog - I have always worked with one catalog.
    Mark me down as confused. These statements seem contradictory.
    I will have to do some reading on "Find Folder" as your are saying that is all I need after I find the catalog.  It must do more than I was thinking...
    Yes, you could do some reading on this, or you could just go back to Dorin's post earlier in this thread, I believe that's all the reading you need.
    There were only two reasons that I am doing the moves at this time.
              A. Migrating to LR 2.x to LR 3... I did a lot of work under LR3 Beta and it did not seem to pull all these folders into LR3 when I did the install.   I could not find the option to upgrade from the bata version or it probably would have taken care of this for me (too bad)                     B. Consolidating the file location to an external HD.
    I am aware that there have been some reported problems in converting LR3Beta catalogs to LR3. The upgrade option is simply to open the catalog. File->Open Catalog, and point to the LR3Beta catalog.
    You seem to be quite confused on catalogs and files and how they interact. Moving photos is not the same things as moving/upgrading catalogs. I am going to suggest that you not do any more PHOTO moves until you straighten out all your catalog issues. Find the catalogs, combine them into one with File->Import from Catalog, make sure everything is properly linked inside the catalog. Then, and only then, go to the next step of consolidating photos on the external HD. I strongly recommend you read The Lightroom Starter Kit and Ten Things I Wish I Could Tell Every New Lightroom User, paying particular attention to the parts that describe the Lightroom Library Module.

  • Phantom folder and files

    I have a webdisk mounted om my desktop, which resides on my ISP's server. This way I can edit and update HTML files on the fly in GoLive, without having to use FTP.
    During a few unnoticed network interruptions, I saved changes to open files on the webdisk, which actually weren't available at the time. Still, GoLive saved those files, somewhere I can't find them. They show in GoLive's 'open' window and they even open. A new file can also be saved in the same folder.
    I searched the entire HD and ran Onyx and DiskWarrior.
    This folder and these files in it must be somewhere, but how do I find them, have them show in the Finder, so I can delete them all?

    Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /Volumes/ as the path, move anything which isn't an alias out of that folder, unmount the drive, and remount it.

  • Install from scratch 3 times Mavericks but cannot used my restore it will just start for ever. After first install and restore mail and link between folder and files didn't work anymore. Now cant see my disk in finder. Help?

    First install through regular update : never finishing the start after automatic restart
    First install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only - Mail crashed each 5 inutes and asked constantly for password of my 2 accounts, links between folders and files not OK and attaching a doc was complicated. I downloaded the update same problems
    Second install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only and settings : never finishing the start after automatic restart
    Third install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - But no disk available in Finder
    So far no Mac since 3 days ...
    Any help is welcome

    Still struggling to understand why copying the entire root dir to a disk image and then restoring from that image did not, as expected, yield an identical system, and why I even had to reinstall after doing this.
    Because there is a lot more going on under the hood than merely copying files.
    The only way to do what you want is to use cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner.
    My  advice is to rescue your personal files to a regular non-TimeMachine  external drive, Zero erase the ENTIRE drive and install OS X fresh and  update, then your programs from original sources and files from backup.
    Then, make a bootable clone and you can copy that as many times as you want and each one is bootable.
