Missing Quick time components

After upgrading to Lion (don't have Lion system disks) everytime I launch iMovie get a warning saying missing quicktime components, and need to reinstall program using imovie installer. I cant find that is it on tiger disks that came with my MacBook pro - 17" mid 2010?
( BTW - I'm 70 yo and do not understand tech language too well)
Thank you for your help.

iMovie isn't a part of Lion (or any operating system). It's part of iLife (iPhoto, GarageBand, iMovie and iWeb and iDVD).
You should have received Snow Leopard (10.6) and iLife '09 DVD's with your machine. iMovie '09 installer should be on the iLife DVD.
You can also purchase iMovie '11 for $14.99 from the App Store. It is the most current version.

  • 'Missing' Quick Time Component

    Hi guys!
I've just done a really big clean up of my hard drive and reinstalled everything, and all seems good apart from iMovie'11 (which was a part of iLife'11).
When I launch the program I get a message that reads +"The QuickTime component necessary to view, edit, import, and export MPEG2 movies is not installed. It is included with the iMovie installer; please re-install".+
I have reinstalled iLife'11 AND the applications installation DVD that come with my MBP, and still no joy. I really need iMovie up and running as I coach basketball at a pretty high level and use the program to cut my game tapes... any ideas thoughts or prayers?

  • .mov file has no video - playing it in Quick Time 7 on Windows XP. Help!

I work for a law firm and we received a CD which contains a .mov file. When we try to play it in Quick Time, it plays the audio, but NO video. We are trying to play it is Quick Time (version 7.7.1) on a Windows XP Pro PC. When Quick Time first opened, it gave a message saying "Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from the Quick Time Components page." I clicked Continue and it took me to the Components page, but it lists like 10 different components and I have no idea what we need. Can anyone provide any input as to what might be missing? Is it a CODEC? I have tried converting it to a different format usinig two different softwares and have gotten errors.

When I open iMovie, it says that quick time componets are missing, "Please re-install"...When I do that it says that ONLY 9 is supported and I have to have that first. What gives with that?

What version of iPhoto are you using?
This is the the first time I have ever launched it.
Does that mean there are no photos in the library? If so move it to the Trash bin in the Dock and launch iPhoto again.
If there are photos in the library do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I never installed iLife, it was allready on bought computers when I bought them? What can I do? Can I install it again? And where can I find this? Thanks, Wim.

  • Cant install ITunes or Quick Time it says a file is missing that the installer package needs

Each time I try to install ITunes of Quick Time on my Windows XP machine with 2 gig of RAM and running service pack 3 it fails and says that a file the installer package needs is missing. How can I resolve this issue?

Your operating system is fine. No need to worry about that.
it fails and says that a file the installer package needs is missing.
What's the precise text of that message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

  • X Quick Time Digitizer shows [Missing] DV Video

I'm using FCP 5.1.4 and camera Sony HDR FX1. Trying to capture DV footage but can't somehow.
I can operate camera remotly but can't capture video (it doesn't apear on screen).
When i try to press 'capture' in log and capture option, this comunicate apears:
"Attempt to capture a video without video device selected.
Please select a video device in your capture presets and try again".
So i went to>Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings...>Capture Presets>DV Pal 48 kHZ and Quick Time Video Settings shows [Missing] DV Video and the only option it gives me is to select NONE.
    What should i do??
    Thank you.

    Hi Brian,
    Thanx for reply.
I've done exactly what you said. My system can see FX1.
My firewire cable is fine too (got two anyway).
I can capture fine in iMovie (so mac and camera comunicates fine).
In FCP i've got easy setup set to DV Pal. It allows me to remote control camera, I can play it, but image doesn't came thrue (only sound). I can't see the image on my mac and if i try to capture, the same comunicate apears, as before.
I went to Audio/Video Settings>Capture Presets and in Summary it says:
WARNING: Video Device DV Video is missing
    Canon DV using Pal
    25 Frames per second
    DV-PAL at best quality
    etc.
I can capture HDV footage, but only if i use HDV Apple intermediate codec.
If i try to set it to HDV 1080i50 (as i use to in older FCP) it doesn't work.
I'd like to concentrate on DV format just now anyway.
Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
    Thanx

  • Quick Time Missing..

Yesterday I was trying to upload my video and when I opened IM it told me "Missing HD QuickTime Component. The Quick Time Component necessary to view, edit and export high-definition movies is not installed. It is included with the IMovie HD installer; please re-install."
So I went and re-installed IMovie but nothing changed.
    The same thing came up.

    Hi monica:
You need to do a custon re-install of imovie.
And it is because there's a missing QuickTime component called "Apple Intermediate Codec" that translates your HDV (hi-def MPEG-2) footage into a file that iMovie can use for editing it.
Without the Apple Intermediate Codec you won't be able to work with hi-definition video correctly.

Hmm, yes. Didn't notice that. Looks like it's still in development. I haven't time right now to check further, but will do later on and report back.
Camtasia 2 for Mac is the video editor I use, but it's payware I'm afraid. You can download a free, full 30-day trial to check it out though, from here, if you want:

  • Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?
Or am I missing something ?

Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ?
Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.
All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible?
I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

  • Unable to play Quick Time movies in web pages

We have Quick Time 7.0.4 player installed on Mac OS X v10.4, But we are unable to open Quick time movies in web browser from external web sites.
It gives us error ‘To view this movie, you will need QuickTime 5 (or later)’
If we open Quick time movies from local disk in web browser then it works perfectly alright.
Could you please let us know the reason behind this?
Note: I have encounter this problem on safari and IE 5.2 browser.

For instance if you go to this page again in Safari,
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf06/
and then select "View Source" from the View menu, then press command-f to "find" within the page and search for ".mov"
You will find this, which shows the url of the movie itself.
    <param name="href" value="http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov">
If you copy just this part:
    http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov
And open QuickTime Player, go to the File menu, select "Open URL" the movie will play.
If you try the same technique on the page at the link provided by your client, it will allow you to bypass the html code that may be doing an outdated compatibility check and the movie may play. Or it may tell you that you are missing components (codecs, compressors etc.) in which case, post here again.

  • Keynote fails to play quick time movies

    HI,
I am trying to play a quicktime movie which I added to one of the slides. It starts out fine then the screen goes white but the control at the bottom of the screen shows that the movie is still playing. Some times you get the same white slide when you try to stop a movie while it is playing and drag the cursor back to replay a part of the movie again. Other quicktime movies do fine. And this quick time movie plays fine in quicktime. The white slide you get when you are trying to replay a section of quicktime movies can be fixed by going back one slide and and coming back to the movie slide and playing it again. If some one has a fix please let me know. I have seen this happen with other people using quicktime in keynote too.

For instance if you go to this page again in Safari,
