Missing QuickTime Plug-in?

Hi,
I have noticed recently that when ever I play a QuickTime movie in Safari (I can tell when Safari uses the Flip4Mac plug in so whenever it isn't using the Flip4Mac plug in it is sing a QuickTime plug-in... I am assuming...) the video never appears, the audio is fine, but no video. Am I missing some plug-in from QuickTime or what?
Thanks in advance!
-thealexness

Hi Tom & thelaxness
webplugin seems to be shorthand for webkit-based-plugin which is a type of plugin useable by only webkit applications, ( like say, Safari & Shira & most Apple apps, but not Camino or Firefox for example..)
Seems the webplugin offers some advantages in ease of programming/implementation, & for webkit apps could replace the standard 'netscape' type xxx.plugin type; but of course other mac browsers require the .plugin one, so sometimes both will be installed & seemingly can cause conflicts.
I have both plugin & webplugin versions of QT now & get no problems, but have previously needed to remove a webplugin to get videos working ( wmv ones using Flip4mac I think )

  • Missing quicktime plug-in 7.2

After doing the update for Intel MacBook Pro last night I now find I am unable to
play videos in my Safari browser even those from Apples iPod+iTunes pages.
All I get is a drop down window saying "....attempted to load an internet plug-in named QuickTime Plug- 7.2, but the plug-in failed to load successfully"
I have looked at all the Q/T forums for possible answers without success.
I have downloaded & installed this update a 2nd time but it still persists- have also run permissions repair also checked the settings in Q/T.
I should add this problem does not exist on my iMac G5
    Can anyone assist please?
    Alan

Have just downloaded and installed Q/T 7.2 again and all now seems OK.
Whatever it was the fresh install has fixed the problem.

  • Missing quicktime plug-in in Safari and Chrome

Go to this page: http://docs.autodesk.com/NINVFUS/S3/ENU/index.html and click Essentials Videos then click any title. In Safari and Chrome, I (and others) get Missing Plug-in.
I've tried using Pacifist with OSXUpdCombo10.8.2 to install quicktime. I tried copying the quicktime plugin to the library. I tried installing Perian. Still no joy.
Any suggestions before I reinstall OS?
    Thanks!

I don't believe that reinstalling will help. I have no problems with 10.8.3 so try installing the Combo update of that if you want, but I get the same as you on that particular website, yet have had no problems with any other website. May be it's made for Windows IE. Reinstalling the entire OSX would be pretty drastic.
Contact the hosts of that website first and ask them.

  • No Quicktime plug-in??

Since upgrading to an Intel-based MacBook Pro, it seems Safari can no longer view Quicktime movies, which is bizarre.
I've deleted the plist, have reset the app., cleared the cache, run all sorts of maintenance programs, re-downloaded and re-installed the latest Quicktime update, but nothing seems to help. I continue to get the following message:
"The page “Apple - QuickTime” has content of MIME type “video/quicktime”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Do you want to open the page?"
    Can someone help?

    Hi
if you've used the "installed plug-ins" command from Safari's Help menu & see no mention of QT, then No, of course that isn't normal.
You should see a section headed-
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.x.x
The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site. — from file “QuickTime Plugin.plugin”.
then a long list of mime types that the plugin handles.
So - assuming you don't see that, either the plugin is missing for some reason or there's a conflict that doesn't allow it to load.
Take a look in your Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder - if you see any QT plugin or webplugin file there, remove them to the desktop or trash.
Now look in HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ amongst other files, this should contain QuickTime Plugin.plugin
IF you found a QT plugin in the Home account plugins folder & have removed it, you should quit any browsers & re-open them - hopefully you will now have QT functioning.
IF you have no file 'QuickTime Plugin.plugin' then it seems something went wrong with the installation or a recent update.
Anyway, let us know what you find out.

  • Quicktime "plug-in failure" in safari 8.0.5

I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 and get a quicktime "plug-in failure" in safari 8.0.5 when playing mov files at http://www.time-science.com/timescience/timelapse.asp

So it's something unique to my setup
I wonder how to fix it.
Tried uninstalling adobe flash, restarting and reinstalling as I noticed that idea in some web searching
This is what I get for the "Flowers":
Sorenson Video 3 is a legacy codec that is only passively supported under Yosemite. QT 7 and the QT browser plug-in can still play this content. However, QT 7 Pro can only export to this compression format if the codec is turned back on by the user. (I.e., active QT export support of the "legacy" codecs was turned off under Lion.) Further, Sorenson Video 3 is neither QT X or QL "playback" compatible but can be converted natively by QT Player v10.4 if desired.
Not sure if your error message is supposed to indicate that the QT browser plug-in is missing or is simply corrupted. Problem could also be in the way the web site is coded to play the files but I am not a site programmer so it would do me little good to examine the code use. On the other hand, I do already have a "Test" web site set up for a user trying to get his files to play in an older version of Safari so I added test pages for the Sorenson files from the site you referenced. See if you can play them from my alternate test pages. If they play there, then the problem may be site, otherwise, if they still don't play, you may need to reinstall the browser software.

When I try it on my intel laptop under os 10.6.8, safari 5.1.7, quicktime plug-in 7.6.6, I get a bunch of gobbledygook on the screen. If I try it with firefox, I get a "missing plug-in" message but it's unable to find the required plug-in.
However, if I try it on my good old ppc imac, under os 10.4.11, safari 4.1.3, quicktime plug-in 7.6.4, it works perfectly.
Anyone have any good ideas? It couldn't be that the newer software is incompatible with older sites? That'd be bad. I hope there's an easy solution to this.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. I did click on your link (a bit different from the one I'd posted) and got what appeared to be a weird text file. Since it was supposed to be a movie, I saved it with .mov extension and, sure enough, it played fine in quicktime player. However, safari did not recognize it as a movie to be played with the quicktime plugin. Weird.

  • Missing Quicktime plugin?

Whenever I try and veiw Quicktime contnet online, I get Safari's "missing plug-in" window. Yet the quicktime plug-in IS installed, and is also present in my Internet Plug-Ins Directory in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Why, then is the plug-in not functioning correctly/not being able to be read? I already tried re-installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 Combo Update, and that did nothing. Hope someone can help.

Whoops, had the wrong folder. Here's the list of items in the Plug-Ins directory in the Library on the boot drive.

  • Missing QuickTime Plugin.plugin

    Hi,
I have a huge problem with QuickTime Player that it doesn't running very well with Safari, Chrome, and Mozilla. It sometimes freeze and disconnected. I saw other people have similar problems like this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2230875&start=30&tstart=0
I tried to look in Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and noticed that I don't have any files in there even missing QuickTime Plugin.plugin. I still have QuickTime 10 and 7 installed. Does anybody know what is going on? Could you please help me how to fix it.
    Thanks!

    >>i dont want to reinstall the whole OS. will it delete all the apps and settings?
No, those should all be retained, only OS components will be replaced, but of course the combo & other updates will be required afterwards.
    >> the volume doesnt meet the requirements for this update.
    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
something amiss in the system, that is checked for as part of the installation (might be just a version number) - the Installer.log, visible in Console application, may be more specific.
    >>but i can copy manually the quicktime plugin using pacifist???
You can indeed - extract it from the combo or grab it from another mac or backup. Speaking of which, do make some if you don't already have some; doubly so since something obviously happened to that plugin & additionally another item has been changed so that the installer, 'won't'.

  • How can I select the Quicktime plug-in (in Firefox) as the Helper Application, as only programs out of the web browser are shown?

I recently updated my QuickTime Plug-in (7.7.4) on Firefox 21. Prior to the update, I could open midi files in the Firefox and other browsers with a QuickTime Player. Now, I've got my Windows 7 computer asking how it should save or open the file. The QuickTime Plug-in is enabled and works with other types of files. If I open Tools, select Options, and select Applications, I do have the option of selecting "Use QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.4 (in Firefox)" for many file types. For the "Midi Sequence" type, it isn't an option, (only programs which open the midi files outside of the browser). Presently my only option is to use "Windows Media Player" as the default program, (opening midi files outside of the browser). "Mid file" allows the selection of the QuickTime Plug-in but still goes out of the Firefox browser to use the Windows Media Player, whether the file's extension is .mid or .midi
Is these someplace I can find the "Use QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.4 (in Firefox)" with the "Browse" within my computer's files, or am I now stuck using the "Windows Media Player" when a plug-in should be able to do this simple task? I can watch YouTUbe (in Firefox) but cannot play a midi file (in Firefox)!

QT 7.7.4 use "audio/mid" MIME type only and does not understand now "audio/midi" and "audio/x-midi" types commonly used on server side. Blame Apple for that.

  • Two new problems with the Quicktime Plug-in

I recently discovered two new problems with the current Quicktime Plug-in for Mac OS X.
First, the Quicktime Plug-in is unable to stream Quicktime media in any internet browsers other than Safari.
There is just nothing on the spot where the embedded Quicktime player should be.
Second, the Quicktime Plug-in only shows the message "The operation couldn't be completed. This file is not a movie file (-2048)"
everytime it should work together with the Flip4Mac Plug-in. The thing is, when facing a webpage where a wmv or wma file is
embedded, there only shows that error message on the spot where the player should exist. I first thought that it would be a
problem with Flip4Mac. So I uploaded about this problem on telestream.net, only to hear that the error message above belongs
    to the Quicktime Plug-in.
Both of these problems did not happen at all only three weeks ago. The embedded Quicktime player showed up without any problem
in my Firefox and Opera, and wmv or wma files were streamed successfully through the Flip4Mac and Quicktime Plug-ins.
Then, suddenly, after some point, these two problems began to occur, and there is no information on how to solve them on the web.
I obviously tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime. I even completely erased the hard disk of my Macbook, and reinstalled the
whole Mac OS X. But the problems still remained. I borrowed another Macbook from my friend to check whether these problems
occur in other computers, and they did occur in my friend's Macbook as well. So they are definitely not the matter of my own Macbook only.
I think these might be the problems with the new Quicktime Plug-in 7.7.1.
Please check about these problems and solve them on the next version of the Quicktime Plug-in.
I will give you a couple of hyperlinks so that you can check about the problems directly.

  • Safari 4.0 - Quicktime Plug-In Issue

    Hey Everyone,
Hoping that I might be able to get a little bit of help here. Safari 4.0 is almost running fine for me. The only problem that I have is playing any Quicktime movie. Trailers, Keynote, etc. Whenever I try, I get the following message:
The page “Apple - Movie Trailers - Shutter Island” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.2”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
I deleted the quicktime plug-in and web plug-in from my library, and tried again, but was requested to install Quicktime. I reinstalled QT but then got the same error. I tried deleting the divx and flip4mac plug-ins also, but again... no success.
    Can someone please help?

No dice... opens up the new window and here's the answer I get...
The page “http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Movies/dave.mov” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.2”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
    Same problem as always!

  • Safari QuickTime Plug In Issues

    Hello Everyone,
I set up a IP Cam over at another location on an apple time capsule router. I mapped port 80 so external users ie. you guys could access it.
You can view the camera here: http://67.165.53.251/

My problem is using a Macbook air running OS Snow Leopard, QuickTime X and the latest build of Safari I can't get a video feed from the camera. The feed works fine on a PC and my GFs Macbook Pro running 10.4.
Basically what happens is when the QuickTime plug in tries to connect to the video feed it says "negotiating" forever. Then eventually the video feed never loads. This one has me stumped, I tried calling apple care and they gave me the whole shpeal on how that my problem was not covered my apple care. A few days ago when I called them with a similar issue and one of their tier 2 guys was able to help me out. Any ideas on what is going on here? I don't have any antivirus or firewall blocking it. I already downloaded QuickTime 7 as an alternative to X but no luck. I cleared my cache, history and .plist files and still no solution. I also tried connecting to the cam on my bosses MacBook Air virtually the same as mine and he had the same problem I did.

Your "kitty" feed works just fine for me using Safari and Snow Leopard.
Difficult to diagnose the cause as there is no longer a QuickTime "System Preferences" pane where settings can be tested.
The "negotiating" is talk between your streaming server and the browser plug-in. Once things are settled out playback begins. And it works for me but not for you.
Test the page using a different User account. This helps rule out many issues.

  • About quicktime plug in "tab" freezes in IE7?

Can someone tell me if when clicking on the about quicktime plug in tab it freezes in IE7?
On my computer it always freezes in IE7.

Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

You're clicking on the downward pointing arrow at the end of the QuickTime controller?
This is supposed to open a dialog window that shows the installed version of the QuickTime browser plug-in. Don't know why it crashes IE for you. It doesn't happen on my PC using IE 7 and XP.

  • I have Firefox 3.6 and cannot download Quicktime Plug-In 7.6.6 to update Quicktime. Please let me know how I can do this?

I currently have QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.3 and been asked to update the latest version of QuickTime from the Apple Website. I tried to manually load QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.6 to Firefox and it wouldn't let me do this. A .window came up on my MAC and told me that I had QuickTime X on my hard drive. I currently have a MacBook Pro and it has the Snow Leopard Operating System

If you're running the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.4 as of today), you are fine. This is a FF bug.
To be certain, double-click on your hard drive icon and go to the following folder: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Do a "Get Info" on the "Quicktime Plugin" and see what version is stated. Most likely, it's version 7.6.6, in which case you have the latest version.
I spent the past 10 mins trying to figure out how to report this, but I gave up. Hopefully, other people having this problem find this discussion and don't waste their time trying to fix something that isn't broken.
Edit: OK, just found Bugzilla in the "Community" section for reporting bugs. Makes no sense to me that there isn't a link in the "Support" section for this, but that's just me, I guess.

Yes, I think you should uninstall QuickTime and reinstall a fresh version. Reset the preferences after downloading and installing the fresh version.
