Missing Quicktime Pro

I've used Quicktime Pro for 10-15 years now.  I'm running FCP Studio (7) and Logic Audio (9).  I noticed today when I went to adjust a frame ratio on a Quicktime movie (ProRes) ... that I no longer have Quicktime Pro on either my tower or my laptop.  All I have is the Quicktime Player.  For the last few years I've been using both, depending on the job requirement.  They were sitting there side by side.
I've done a couple of system upgrades in the last six months ... Leopard to Snow Leopard ...
I never trashed my Quicktime 'Pro'.
Would the system upgrades have trashed my Quicktime Pro automatically?  That would almost be a form of theft no?  Since I had paid for the 'Pro'.  I've actually purchased the Pro at least 2 or 3 times over the years.
What might have happened to my Quicktime Pro?
All ears,
Ben

Hi Niel, you're an ace ...
Thank you for that.  It was completely gone from the tower, but I found a copy on the laptop.  Which I just dragged to the tower ... and it's working fine.  You just saved me $30 and I'm much appreciative.
All the best,
Ben

  • Quicktime Pro 7: Screen Recording is missing

    Hello
I downloaded Quicktime Pro 7 to be able to record my screen.
The problem: there is no function "New Screen Recording" appearing!
    There are only these functions:
    New Player
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording ist missing!
    What can I do?
    Thx for help
    Christine

Wait what do you mean Q T 7 whats that
Classic version of QT based on a 32-bit structure embedded in the operating system as opposed to Apple's completely re-written version of QuickTime now under development using 64-bit embedded structures compatible with QT X Players v10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 on a Mac. Both players can be installed on and used by Snow Leopard and later operating systems which have dual QT structures embedded within Mac OS X. However, only the QT 7 player can be keyed for QT 7 "Pro" use and is the player about which the original poster here was asking.

  • Quicktime Pro software missing.

I have a .mov file I am unable to view in Quicktime Pro 7.1 for Windows.
When I try to run it, I get the following error:
Some Quick Time Software is missing... etc.
When I ask it to continue, it brings me to a Quicktime Components page.
Which one do I need? There are many to choose from and some just don't look like they relate.
Also, I cannot play this on my eMac running 10.4. Same thing.
Under movie properties, the Sound Track is WMA2 and the Video Track is WMV3. You'd figure a PC running XP Pro would have the necessary codecs?
Thanks for any insight to this.
    Mike
    Athlon 1800   Windows XP Pro

The reason it may play on a Mac is that those users have installed http://flip4mac.com component which allows playback of WMP formats via QuickTime.
Flip4Mac is a Mac replacement of Windows Media Player for Mac. Microsoft no longer makes a Mac version of Media Player.
Is your Media Player version 9?
    *Edit*
We were both typing at the same time.
Use the Mac that has Flip4Mac "Pro" to export as WMP file (.wmv) and it should work in Media Player.

  • Quicktime Pro - missing movie controls in browser plugins

When viewing QT movies in my browsers, I have full functionality except that the control strip is replaced with a black bar. Buttons do behave (the volume slider even appears if I click where it should be) but they are not displayed.
This occurs in both Firefox 2.0.1 and IE 7. It happens with QT 7.1.3 and also happened with the previous version (7.0.2 I believe).
    My OS is WinXP x64
Mac Pro 2.66 Other OS Windows XP 64bit

Well... since the generic feedback form is the only other way to post any kind of information to Apple about QuickTime (incredibly short-sided for a paid "pro" product) we'll continue to post here regardless of whether it is "supported".
Quicktime Pro is an important part of my company's pipeline... which is also dependent on Windows 64bit (32bit just doesn't cut it for highly complex, high-resolution 3D rendering). There is no alternative.

  • Quicktime Pro 7 "Share" Option Missing

    Hi,
I just purchased Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows specifically so I could share QT files via email.
When I click on "File" according to what I've read there should be a "Share" option, but there isn't one.
Basically I'm trying to take 4GB or 8GB files and share them for review by clients.

Try this codec, Perian. It will replace the DivX and XviD codecs but not the Flip4Mac codec. You should remove both the DivX and XviD codecs. Then install the Perian component...repair permissions...restart your computer.
    http://perian.org/#detail
Hope this fixes your problem. This usually will fix problems with avi's. If not keep the Perian component installed. And we'll try something else.
If you have to come back for another fix. Open the question video in Quicktime, do a command+i to find out what the codec in the avi is...and report that in here.

  • How do I find the registration key for Quicktime Pro 7?

I bought QT7 in 2005 & following the links in various support documents all take me to dead ends.  If I look at order history of my account it only goes back 18 months.  There is mention of "downloadable software" section in accounts but that has gone, presumably replaced by the App Store.  I am of course running Lion & want to unlock the Pro features on my MacBook Pro.
    Many thanks

Do you know how I can amend the link to go direct tot he UK site?
Sorry, no. We have the same problem of "lost" links to the software purchase history here in the USA. Fortunatally, someone came across this link in the support area and it appears to work for purchases made here at the US online store. However, the article containing the link I posted also states the following:
Outside Canada and the United States
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key after 13 April 2001, contact the customer service number of The Apple Store . This number is available at the bottom of The Apple Store Web page for each region.
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key from the QuickTime Web site before 13 April 2001, please consult your email or other records from that period for your key.
Here is a link to the article if you wish to read it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2376
Believe others have tried contacting the US Customer Service number but were told to get the information form the Downloadable Software Purchases area for their account which, as we already know, no longer works. (In fact, the Customer Service people did not seem to even know that the old links were missing form our account pages or seem concerned about looking into fixing the problem.) While I don't hold out any hopes that you will fare any better, you can give it a try and at least ask if there is a similar external URL for people in other regions. I personally would also send formal QT feedback regarding the problem.

  • .mp4 H.264 not playing correctly in Quicktime Pro

    Here is all my information:
Format: H.264 Decoder, 720x480 Millions AAC, Mono, 48.000 kHz
    FPS: 23.98
    Data Size: 1.86 GB
    Data Rate: 2695.08 kbits/sec
Normal Size: 640 x 480 pixels (this is the current size too)
The Problem: I have perfect audio, but the video seems extremely choppy and lags. I wanted to do simple editing of some video and I thought that the Quicktime Pro may help this file play better, so I just bought Quicktime Pro to see that it does not help the file play any better. Could there be a setting that I'm missing somewhere? My roommate has Quicktime Pro on Windows and the file plays for him perfectly. The file also plays fine on VLC... So I thought it must be a setting that I am missing. Thanks.

At least one of them was on Windows 7.
Is there a better format I should be using for PP export other than H.264?

  • I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1, but QTP won't run...

I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1. I have already registered QuickTime Pro, but when I try to use it, my computer just says I have QT 7.1 installed. I can't use and of the features of QTP. I followed the installation directions, but I must be missing a step because my computer has no clue that I own QTP! (Also, when I try to Export a video, it says that I need to install QuickTime Pro, which I've already installed...)

Have you attempted to re-enter your registration information? Or does it not allow you to do this?
Secondly, have you tried uninstalling Quicktime, then reinstalling it via the Control Panel or QuickTime Start Menu Group?

  • How does this quicktime pro thing work?

i bought final cut hd about a year and a half ago and recently had to reinstall it. When i pulled out the disk , I noticed that not only did the final cut hd come with a serial number, but i had a serial number for quicktime pro, which was on the same package as the final cut. There was no disk for quicktime pro. And i never installed quicktime pro. What did i miss? Was i supposed to go online and download it using that serial number? Is it too late now to get a quicktime pro that works with quicktime 6.5.2?

Quicktime in itself is Quicktime Pro. But, the pro part is locked until you enter the serial number that came with Final Cut. Sorry to say Apple no longer supports Quicktime 6.5.2. Meaning if you don't have Quicktime 6.5.2 or are able to get it from a CD (or someone you know). You will need the buy Quicktime Pro from Apple.
You didn't supply the OS your running. That will determine what Quicktime if you can run Quicktime 6.5.2............

  • Do I need anytime Quicktime Pro

I am using Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and do have the latest Quicktime installed on Leopard.
Do I need the Quicktime Pro license if I like to use the export from FCE with "Quicktime conversion" or is there something I may miss if not?

    Well Nick Holmes,
with answers like this one I will not ever get a answer to my basic problem. I am trying to find out, what makes me stupid as I get different colors on output from what I see in Final Cut.
My problem is equal to which version I use - Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro - I think, so may be the reason comes not from Final Cut itself than from other components on my Mac.
Let me explain what I asked in the Final Cut Express forum today:
I have a clip listed in the bin of my project. This clip is in Apples Intermediate Codec because it comes from a AVCHD source and was logged to my Mac with FCEs logging and transferring option.
I used a filter on that clip - it is still not in the timeline only in the bin listed - and made it a bit darker and gave it more contrast.
I than exported this clip at 1920x1080 px to a .mov file with codec setting of PhotoJPEG. This file was fine, all colors and saturation are as in FCE.
Then I had to export that clip again to H.264 because the customer needed a smaller file and wanted this kind of compression. This export file was in colors and saturation/contrast exactely as the original, so as if the filter I used I didn't use.
I did a third test and used the first and fine created PhotoJPEG file from FCE and took it into Elgatos Turbo.264 app and let it export from there to a H.264 file (setting for Apple TV).
Now all colors were as they should (ok, the file was smaller in size and dimension).
Why do I get by exporting from FCE to H.264 (.mov file) a file that seems to be without my filter and why it differs from the output from Elgatos Turbo.264?

  • Quicktime Pro Has Failed To Launch - PLEASE HELP

I spent $31 and purchased Quicktime Pro so that I could put together a video with music of my time here in Beijing.
However, I can't even seem to get Quicktime Pro to launch.
Am I missing something here? I entered in the code on my Quicktime control pannel and it tells me that I have Quicktime Pro, but other than that there is nothing to indicate that I have anything other than regular ol' Quicktime.
Is there some kind of button I need to push or should it have changed to Quicktime Pro automatically.
This is very vexing to me and I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks!
    J.

    Kirk,
Again, thanks. I'm getting the hang of the editing part, but am now uncertain as to how to add the music to the videos I've strung together.
Must the song I want to put on it be exactly equal to the length of the movie?
Is there anyway to just have part of the song play?
Isn't there just a drag and drop function like on Windows Movie Maker in which the length of the video will determine how much of the song will be played?
I'm still confused as to how the actual process works. I understand all of the Select All and Copy and Paste. I just don't know where to copy the music so I can paste it on top, or where to go about doing that.
Again, thanks. You've been very helpful.

  • Export H264 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?

Using QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows, I add a text track with closed captions to my H264 .mp4 videos.
The text track works great until I try to export it.  After I've added the text track, the text track is displayed as long as the track is selected to be active using the Movie Inspector track GUI.
My movies are encoded as H264 for cross-platform compatibility, and need to remain in this format.  The only way to save them in QuickTimePro 7 for Windows is to Export Movie to MPEG-4.  I select Pass-Through mode to retain the resolution and bandwidth parameters that I initially encoded the video with.
Unfortunately, after I export to MPEG-4, the caption track is lost.  It disappears.  When I open the newly exported MPEG-4 caption file, and select Movie Inspector, the caption track is missing.  Inspector only shows video and audio tracks.
If QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows correctly exported my text track with the video and audio tracks, then users would be able to view the closed captions upon playback in QuickTime Player by selecting View--> Show Closed Captioning (Ctrl+Alt+T).
Anyone been able to export to MPEG-4 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?
    Thank you!

  • Uninstall Quicktime Pro 7

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but I've been searching the forums and can't find an answer to my problem.
I accidentally deleted files from my main Library > Quicktime folder. I thought I was trashing components installed by a third party demo.
Now I can't play avi movies (using Quicktime Pro 7).
I downloaded the latest Quicktime and tried installing, but it is only upgrading.
How (or can I?) do I remove Quicktime from my computer, so as to do a completely fresh install?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mason Oller
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I missed it. I didn't know how long it would take, and after searching the Tiger forums, I decided against my better judgment to just use the Finder and trash everything with the name Quicktime that I thought was associated with Tiger (leaving all the old system 9 files alone).
When I restarted, I was able to do a fresh install of Quicktime 7, and update with the pro key.
Then I hunted down an avi file to see if I could play it. Sadly, no.
The files I removed from the Library folder must have all been third party, but I don't remember putting them there. My son also uses this computer and he must have installed them.
I'm really disappointed with QT Pro 7. I purchased it, thinking that was what I needed to see avi and wmv files on my Quicktime Player. At least, that's what they say on the website.
Long story short, I had to buy Flip4Mac so I can get wmv into iMovie, and Divx6 so I can watch Adult Swim cartoons on my Mac. Turns out, I didn't need Pro 7 after all.
The guide says I can make movies with it, but shouldn't I use iMovie for that?
    Thanks again for your reply,
    Mason

  • Missing Quicktime Components in iMovie 11

So recently my iMovie had been acting up and crashing on my user so I decided to log out, switch users, and access one of my family member's empty iMovies on my mac book. However, when I tried to open it, a message came up saying that iMovie couldn't open unless I deleted some 3ivx stuff or something like that. So I decided to delete that stuff along with old video conversion apps I had once downloaded but never used again.
Somewhere within that deleting spree I must have deleted something that created a problem with iMovie.
Everytime I open iMovie on any user, the notorious "Missing Quicktime Components" message comes up.
When I click "OK" iMovie opens normally. And at first I thought nothing was wrong. But then I noticed I can't export movies, import things from my cameras, change the lengths of titles, and change the speed of my clips...
I have been searching everywhere and have tried almost everything to fix it.
I deleted the iMovie cache stuff and plist, updated my computer, deleted iMovie and reinstalled it via the app store, with no luck.
A lot of people suggest reinstalling through the start up discs but here's the thing:
    1. My laptop is 4 years old. I have no idea where those discs are at this point.
    2. My macbook was brand new in 2009, came with iLife 09. I purchased iMovie 11 through the app store, without a disc, so I basically have iMovie 11 and iPhoto 09 and Garageband 09. If I found my start up discs, wouldn't it just reinstall iMovie 09? I really don't want to buy the whole iLife 11 disk package, especially since I've heard it hasn't even fixed the problem for some people.
    Please help.
    I have a MacBook Pro from 2009
    Running on Mountain Lion 10.8.5
iMovie 11 version 9.0.9 (says my computer is incompatible to update to the newest purple icon version... not that i really want to it has terrible reviews!)
    Thanks!

Alright so I solved my own problem after hours and hours of google searches.
What worked was I reinstalled Mountain Lion on my laptop
I found the cause of the problem as well, if anyone out there is curious if they have the same issue.
What happened was, iMovie told me to delete some third party video conversion stuff and when I deleted that I also accidentally deleted those super important Quicktime codecs.
You can check if you have the same problem as me by opening Finder. Click "Go" in the top bar, "Computer" in the drop down list. Select "Macintosh HD" from the Finder window, click on the folder labeled "Library", then click on the folder labeled "Quicktime". Inside the Quicktime folder you should see these two little icons labeled "AppleIntermediateCodec.component" and "AppleMPEG2Codec.component"
If you do not have these iMovie can't function properly.
First, check your trash! If you accidentally deleted it, those are what you're looking for to take out.
If you were dumb like me and emptied your trash, just reninstall Mountain Lion. The codec components of Quicktime come with Mountain Lion so they're not something you can download from the internet or pay for. Reinstalling takes FOREVER but it works.
    To reinstall Mountain Lion:
-Restart your computer, while it's on the gray start up screen hold the buttons "Command" and the letter "R"
-A gray screen and box should open up, simply click the Reinstall button and after a couple hours your problem will be fixed!
Reinstalling DOES NOT delete any of your stuff!
    (Unless something goes wrong)
    I really hope this helps!

  • Seems counter-intuitive to upgrade from QuickTime 10.3 to QuickTime 7 just to get to QuickTime Pro.  Is there no QuickTime 10.3 Pro?

It seems counter-intuitive to upgrade from QuickTime 10.3 to QuickTime 7 just to get to QuickTime Pro.  Am I missing something here?  Is there no QuickTime 10.3 Pro?

QuickTime Pro is based on the QuickTime 7 code, and requires it to run. The old QuickTime was initially intended for movie and sound bites, such as you might find embedded in a Web page. It was not intended for handling the massive size and quantity of current movie and music formats, and Apple had to work the code in odd ways to get it to run the latest content. Not being ideal, Apple decided to re-write QuickTime from the ground up. It has kept QuickTime 7 and its supported features (ie, QuickTime Pro) for compatibility, but is moving foward with the next generation of QuickTime, called QuickTime X. So far this does not have a "Pro" version add-on, and Apple has not indicated it is developing one. For now, if you want advanced features you will need to use software like Final Cut Pro, or a third-party program, which make these routines available to you. There are also a number of third-party tools that do similar features, without interfacing with QuickTime at all.
