Missing QuickTime

I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro with snow leopard. 10.6.8 I.  I cant find my quik time player . I found where it says it was modified in May yet I still can't find it. It shows the generic applications icon not the QuickTime one and it will not open.
Help!!! Please,
Thank you
Allison White

Which version QT is missing?  QT 10 icon is inside the Applications folder.  QT 7 is inside the Utilities folder.
If Spotlight is unable to locate whichever version is missing, you can custom install from your system disc which came with your computer by following the on screen "custom install" instructions.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Missing Quicktime Components in iMovie 11

So recently my iMovie had been acting up and crashing on my user so I decided to log out, switch users, and access one of my family member's empty iMovies on my mac book. However, when I tried to open it, a message came up saying that iMovie couldn't open unless I deleted some 3ivx stuff or something like that. So I decided to delete that stuff along with old video conversion apps I had once downloaded but never used again.
Somewhere within that deleting spree I must have deleted something that created a problem with iMovie.
Everytime I open iMovie on any user, the notorious "Missing Quicktime Components" message comes up.
When I click "OK" iMovie opens normally. And at first I thought nothing was wrong. But then I noticed I can't export movies, import things from my cameras, change the lengths of titles, and change the speed of my clips...
I have been searching everywhere and have tried almost everything to fix it.
I deleted the iMovie cache stuff and plist, updated my computer, deleted iMovie and reinstalled it via the app store, with no luck.
A lot of people suggest reinstalling through the start up discs but here's the thing:
    1. My laptop is 4 years old. I have no idea where those discs are at this point.
    2. My macbook was brand new in 2009, came with iLife 09. I purchased iMovie 11 through the app store, without a disc, so I basically have iMovie 11 and iPhoto 09 and Garageband 09. If I found my start up discs, wouldn't it just reinstall iMovie 09? I really don't want to buy the whole iLife 11 disk package, especially since I've heard it hasn't even fixed the problem for some people.
    Please help.
    I have a MacBook Pro from 2009
    Running on Mountain Lion 10.8.5
iMovie 11 version 9.0.9 (says my computer is incompatible to update to the newest purple icon version... not that i really want to it has terrible reviews!)
    Thanks!

Alright so I solved my own problem after hours and hours of google searches.
What worked was I reinstalled Mountain Lion on my laptop
I found the cause of the problem as well, if anyone out there is curious if they have the same issue.
What happened was, iMovie told me to delete some third party video conversion stuff and when I deleted that I also accidentally deleted those super important Quicktime codecs.
You can check if you have the same problem as me by opening Finder. Click "Go" in the top bar, "Computer" in the drop down list. Select "Macintosh HD" from the Finder window, click on the folder labeled "Library", then click on the folder labeled "Quicktime". Inside the Quicktime folder you should see these two little icons labeled "AppleIntermediateCodec.component" and "AppleMPEG2Codec.component"
If you do not have these iMovie can't function properly.
First, check your trash! If you accidentally deleted it, those are what you're looking for to take out.
If you were dumb like me and emptied your trash, just reninstall Mountain Lion. The codec components of Quicktime come with Mountain Lion so they're not something you can download from the internet or pay for. Reinstalling takes FOREVER but it works.
    To reinstall Mountain Lion:
-Restart your computer, while it's on the gray start up screen hold the buttons "Command" and the letter "R"
-A gray screen and box should open up, simply click the Reinstall button and after a couple hours your problem will be fixed!
Reinstalling DOES NOT delete any of your stuff!
    (Unless something goes wrong)
    I really hope this helps!

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
iMovie does not, AFAIK, use QT 10.

  • Missing QuickTime Plugin.plugin

    Hi,
I have a huge problem with QuickTime Player that it doesn't running very well with Safari, Chrome, and Mozilla. It sometimes freeze and disconnected. I saw other people have similar problems like this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2230875&start=30&tstart=0
I tried to look in Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and noticed that I don't have any files in there even missing QuickTime Plugin.plugin. I still have QuickTime 10 and 7 installed. Does anybody know what is going on? Could you please help me how to fix it.
    Thanks!

    >>i dont want to reinstall the whole OS. will it delete all the apps and settings?
No, those should all be retained, only OS components will be replaced, but of course the combo & other updates will be required afterwards.
    >> the volume doesnt meet the requirements for this update.
    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
something amiss in the system, that is checked for as part of the installation (might be just a version number) - the Installer.log, visible in Console application, may be more specific.
    >>but i can copy manually the quicktime plugin using pacifist???
You can indeed - extract it from the combo or grab it from another mac or backup. Speaking of which, do make some if you don't already have some; doubly so since something obviously happened to that plugin & additionally another item has been changed so that the installer, 'won't'.

  • Missing quicktime plugin..drives me crazy

    Hi 2 all,
    I am on 10.6.8., macpro early 2008.
Whenever i want to see a quicktime movie on a site in safari, it shows met the missing quicktime plugin question mark.
However, I looked in the internet plugins folder and the quicktime plugin is really there.
    I tried several things:
    - re-installed quicktime 7.6.6
    - removed all internet plugins except the quicktime plugin from the internet plugins folder.
    - deleted safari preference file
    - deleted quicktime preference file
    - looked at the permissions for the quicktime plugin ; they seemed ok.
    - de-installed perian.
I googled around for the problem and it seems i am not the only one, but i couldn't find a solution that works for me.
BTW: i already had the problem in 10.6.7, so upgrading to 10.6.8. (combo update) didn't make  difference.
This is really driving me nuts.
Does anyone has a briljant solution for my problem ?
    I very hope so..
    Thanx in advance !
    Kind regards,
    Rob.

    Thank you for your response.
I had Perian 1.2.3 installed, so no solution.
I even thought Perian was the culprit, so i de-installed it : no solution.
    I re-installed it : no solution.
    Kind regards,
    Rob.

  • I can't download iTunes because of a missing Quicktime.msi file

After I upgraded iTunes via the latest auto update offering, I was having problems with iTunes hanging on opening and generally lagging. So I (stupidly) removed the program from my computer (which is a PC running Windows XP btw) and tried to redownload it. Still the same problem so I followed the Aple guide to completely removing the program from my computer. Bonjour wouldn't remove, although I've since managed to get rid of it.
The problem is, no matter how many times I try to clear out the files, when I redownload iTunes it won't load because it's looking for the Quicktime.msi file, which is missing. Quicktime won't download because it is also looking for the .msi file (which to my thinking it should be downloading as part of the installation anyway). Eventually, I tried reinstalling Quicktime through a Carbonite online file backup. I succeeded in getting the much in demand .msi file but Quicktime still wouldn't load. Neither will iTunes. Now when I try to load either, I'm getting the message that the file Quicktime.msi is "not part of a recognised installation package". I've moved the file to several different locations, user specific and all users, but the same message keeps coming up. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with no iTunes and therefore no Iphone synching either, so no way to access my podcast downloads.
If anybody knows of a work around that will let me get iTunes back on my computer I would be grateful.

  • Missing quicktime plug-in in Safari and Chrome

Go to this page: http://docs.autodesk.com/NINVFUS/S3/ENU/index.html and click Essentials Videos then click any title. In Safari and Chrome, I (and others) get Missing Plug-in.
I've tried using Pacifist with OSXUpdCombo10.8.2 to install quicktime. I tried copying the quicktime plugin to the library. I tried installing Perian. Still no joy.
Any suggestions before I reinstall OS?
    Thanks!

I don't believe that reinstalling will help. I have no problems with 10.8.3 so try installing the Combo update of that if you want, but I get the same as you on that particular website, yet have had no problems with any other website. May be it's made for Windows IE. Reinstalling the entire OSX would be pretty drastic.

  • Missing QuickTime Plug-in?

    Hi,
I have noticed recently that when ever I play a QuickTime movie in Safari (I can tell when Safari uses the Flip4Mac plug in so whenever it isn't using the Flip4Mac plug in it is sing a QuickTime plug-in... I am assuming...) the video never appears, the audio is fine, but no video. Am I missing some plug-in from QuickTime or what?
    Thanks in advance!
    -thealexness

    Hi Tom & thelaxness
webplugin seems to be shorthand for webkit-based-plugin which is a type of plugin useable by only webkit applications, ( like say, Safari & Shira & most Apple apps, but not Camino or Firefox for example..)
Seems the webplugin offers some advantages in ease of programming/implementation, & for webkit apps could replace the standard 'netscape' type xxx.plugin type; but of course other mac browsers require the .plugin one, so sometimes both will be installed & seemingly can cause conflicts.
I have both plugin & webplugin versions of QT now & get no problems, but have previously needed to remove a webplugin to get videos working ( wmv ones using Flip4mac I think )

  • Missing Quicktime Connector in Chrome

    Hi Everyone,
I can not use quicktime connector in Chrome within the websites that need it. Always pops up the message that there's no QT Player connector installed, while in the other browsers FF or SF, there's no problem. Any suggestion?
NOTE: This problem occurs in my both computers (Imac 27" and Air 11"), & I've applied the 10.7.4 update, but nothing changes...
    Tnx in advance!

  • Missing Quicktime plugin?

Whenever I try and veiw Quicktime contnet online, I get Safari's "missing plug-in" window. Yet the quicktime plug-in IS installed, and is also present in my Internet Plug-Ins Directory in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Why, then is the plug-in not functioning correctly/not being able to be read? I already tried re-installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 Combo Update, and that did nothing. Hope someone can help.

Whoops, had the wrong folder. Here's the list of items in the Plug-Ins directory in the Library on the boot drive.

  • Missing Quicktime Codec

I am running Quicktime Version 10.1 (501) on my MacBook, yet after upgrading to OS X Lion Quicktime will not play videos saying that a codec is missing. I click on the file and then get info to see what codec is missing, yet I can't seem to find out which one I need. Can someone tell me what I need to do, install or upgrade to get Quicktime to work again?
    Thanks for the help

The Pro upgrade doesn't include any other codecs.
You could have kept both version of QuickTime on your machine.
Try http://perian.org for your AVI files.

  • Missing Quicktime brower plug ins

I installed Quicktime twice and when I open my browser (Explorer, Firefox, Safari), the plug-ins are missing.
I re-install it again and the same thing happens over and over again.

This is because the plug-ins are not compatible to any other player save WMplayer(?). If other players plug-ins are present, then QuickTime cannot be used in Firefox because of multiple issues, which really are from the adding in of what is called Apple support framework which has multiple issues with its own resources, not to mention those of other players.
