Missing random "sent" emails

I see several people have had versions of this problem over the last couple of years - but I see no definitive response as to what is causing the problem let alone a solution (not that I might have missed a solution...).  I would estimate that the problem only occurs about 5% of the time, so it is hard to pin down the precursors to the problem when it is relatively random.
Someone noted that it was affecting GMail in particular.  I use the stock Apple mail program and first noticed the problem in Snow Leopard and realized through an ongoing email exchange with someone on GMail, I would occasionally seem to lose my sent mail to him.  I recently upgraded to Lion and find that mail sent to non-GMail accounts was missing in my sent box.  I was hoping the problem would have been solved in the new OS, but obviously not.
Does anyone have a solution, or at least a better definition of the problem?  I can always bcc myself on emails that including GMail accounts, but it seems to have expanded to in particular, a corporate email address/server.
Thanks,
Dave Iverson

Try rebuilding your Mail index:
1. Quit Mail if it's running.
2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file.
3. Restart Mail and wait for it to import your existing messages. When finished, check to see whether those "missing" emails have returned.

  • Outlook 2013 Client - missing random sent items, not happen in owa.

    Hello,
We are working in our company with Exchange 2007 SP3 CU13.
We are experiencing some problems with one Outlook 2013 client installed on Windows 8.1.
He lose some random mails from "sent items" folder. But if you check the OWA, all mails are ok.
I have readed that there is some bug about this, but these comments are for two years ago. And I didn't find any great solution.
I don't think that the solution is to make a new rule to re-copy these sent mails to that folder.Re-create the user outlook profile don't seem to be another good fix. It's only a new start point.
I have activated client side troubleshooting.
    I would appreciate your help.

    Hi,
For Exchange Accounts in Outlook, the emails should sync between the client and the server. Since on the server the emails are there but some are lost on Outlook client, this makes me suspect there is a custom view applied on Outlook.
Start Outlook with the /cleanviews switch:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /cleanviews" in the blank box, press Enter.
This will restore default views. All custom views that you created will be lost.
    Check the result then.

  • Attachments missing from sent emails

We just started having a strange email issue today.  Emails sent using POP3 accounts have their attachments stripped out of the email.  If you look at the sent items folder the email has the attachments but the person on the receiving end gets
an email with no attachment. It doesn't matter how big or small the attachment is, ho many attachments there are or what type of attachment they are.
This is happening on outlook 2010 and 2013 clients (those are the only 2 versions we have).
The operating system is Windows 7 pro SP1.  All updates have been applied.
This is happening on all computers in the domain (SBS2011 server)
The outlook clients have one profile with an exchange server account and one or more POP3 accounts.
If I remove the exchange server account or create a new profile with only the pop3 account we do not have this issue.
I have uninstalled all antivirus software on the computer
I have created a new profile in outlook
I have done a system restore to roll back to the OS state before windows updates were installed the night before we started having the issue.
I have removed the signatures from outlook in case they were corrupted.
I have uninstalled Exchange server 2010 Rollup version 7 which was installed the night before the issue started.
    I bypassed our local firewall
I have started outlook in safe mode
None of this solved the issue.  As stated above exchange rollup 7 was installed and some workstation updates were installed the night before this happened.  I figured that one of those 2 events caused the issue but uninstalling them did not help.
I need some fresh brain power on this one.
    Thanks in advance

There are no attachments on the receiving end.
I enabled protocol logging on the outlook clients and there is no difference in the SMTP log between an email sent successfully and when the attachments get stripped.
This is happening to all the workstations in the domain.  I have done online and offline (boot from CD and scan all local drives) virus scans and I am confident it is not a virus issue.
I would love to get rid of POP3 but we still use it because our sales staff have to send email using several different domains and using pop3 allows them to reply to emails and have them sent back out the same account (domain) that they were received from.
The cause of the issue was either exchange rollup 7 or one of the workstation updates.  Both events happened the night before.  We have been running this configuration for years and those are the only events that changed in our environment.

  • Text missing in sent emails

For some reason quite a few of my recipients that i have been sending emails too have not been getting the text in my emails...they do however get the banner and signature logo, anyone had this problem ?
..also they have all been PC users
    Thanks Matt

    Matt Sandford wrote:

No kidding. There is no catch-all solution. All you can do is try to find a setting that most people can accept. If you were using rich text, turn it off. If you weren't, then turn it on. You said logo, so that assumes rich text. If, in fact, you are sending plain text, that could be the problem. Many PC programs can do either plain text or rich text, but not plain text with attachments or images. So try all the above without the logo.

  • Sent emails are missing from Thunderbird following migration from alternative email client and import of emails

All sent emails are missing from the Thunderbird 'Sent' folder following import, but Sent folder still shows a count of the imported emails (Thunderbird considered them to be unread when importing them, hence the count). The messages are also visible online (BT Internet email) and on other devices (Android running BlueMail). Settings are set to place copies of sent items into Sent folder. Having imported all my old email, I can send email but again they do not appear in the Sent folder (but do appear online and on other devices). I have tried compacting the Sent folder and i have tried repairing the folder. All other folders (Inbox, other newly created folders) show the email i have imported.
If I move an email online from the Sent folder to another test folder, it syncs and appears in Thunderbird in that test folder. If I then use Thunderbird to move the email back from that test folder to the Sent folder then Thunderbird will do so, but locks up for a good minute or so while doing that.
Running TB 24.6.0 on Windows 8.1, incoming server set to IMAP on mail.btinternet.com (port 993), outgoing server set to SMTP on mail.btinternet.com (port 465).
    Help gratefully received!

    Cheers for that, Mulder.
It did seem to recover some emails which had disappeared from Mail, but not all of them. That's the frustrating thing - short of going through my Yahoo webmail accounts and logging every single email, and then cross-referencing with what's on my desktop, I just can't be sure what's there and what's not!
Sometimes it's immediately clear that something is awry - the folder I use for emails from my girlfriend is completely empty, for instance, when I definitely had things in there before the weekend. (Yes, again I went away for the weekend, with the computer still running - and Mail on - and again I returned to discover emails missing.
    Arrgh!

  • TS3276 Mac Mail in Mavericks is randomly resending previously sent emails

For some reason previously sent emails are getting randomly resent. This seems to happen most when the program restarts as my computer reboots. Is there a way to stop this from happening? This is confusing and annoying for my clients!

Mail is not in my log in items. It opens, because it was open when I shut down.

  • Old "sent emails" are MISSING

I've been using me.com since 2008, back then it was a paid service. When the time came, I switched to iCloud, no problem, I enjoy the service. Recently I need to find some sent emails during the period of mid-2011 then I realized that my "Sent" folder only records sent emails from May 2012 (which I think around the time I switched to iCloud, perhaps June 2012). Older emails are MISSING. I'm using Mail in my iMac but when I tried to login to www.me.com or www.icloud.com, and accessed my "Sent" folder, it's the same. Strangely enough, my emails in "Inbox" (both in my iMac & at the server) are intact, only those in "Sent" folder are missing.
Anyone has any idea what's going on? Is there a chance I could get my old emails (pre-May, 2012)? Thanks.

I've been using Mail (currently 4.6 (1085)) to handle all my emails including my Gmail account. Yes, I did migrate, I remember changing some settings through the web but I don't recall changing things in my Mail setting. Perhaps, I did, I'm not sure. I attach a screen capture of my Mail settings:
Yes, it's foolish to have no backup. I've been using TimeMachine with TimeCapsule for quite some time now. I think I switched from MM to iCloud around June 2012, when it was close to deadline. Does my attached picture answer your question about the server setting?

  • Has anybody experienced missing sent emails after updating their iPhone to IOS 5.0?  Mail composed on phone appears to send but is never delivered nor does it show in sent items. Using Exchange 2010. Any thoughts??

    @Satterp
Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1.  The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.

  • IOS 7 randomly deletes sent emails and imports read email

    Hi all,
I have updated my iphone 5 3GS to the latest version of ios 7 and it seems to randomly wipe all my sent emails and then downloads all the emails that I have previously read and deleted.
Anyone else had this and has any solutions- it's incredibly annoying as I sometimes need to refer to sent emails and no longer have them on my phone.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    G

If this email account is Hotmail:
Hotmail has used POP for emails in the past and this does not sync if messages are read or not. This is an old standard and shouldn't be used any more.
You can now use Exchange or IMAP for hotmail and this should mark them as read and stop this from happening again. Add a new mail account on your iPhone, and select Exchange instead of Hotmail/Outlook.com and sign in with your hotmail details. You may need to change the Mail Days to Sync options after you set it up to get all your emails back. Your hotmail account may also have put all your emails into a POP folder. Sign in to hotmail on a computer and move all the emails in that folder back into your inbox.
If exchange does not work, you can try using IMAP, the details are
    Incoming Mail Server IMAPServer: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Outgoing Mail Server SMTPServer: smtp-mail.outlook.com
To add the account, select other when you add a new mail account, and put in a nonsense email address for example "[email protected]" to avoid the mail app automatically setting up the account for you.
Then select IMAP and input the proper details. your username is your hotmail address.
If this email account is something other than Hotmail:
It sounds like your email account is using POP which does not sync if messages are read or not, try to find out if your email account supports IMAP and enter those details like i explain in the bottom part of the hotmail explanation.

  • Sent emails missing after ios 5 upgrade

After upgrading to ios 5, all sent emails are missing from my iPad 1.

From what I recall, I updated all of my apps first.  After attempting to sync the updated apps to my phone, I got a message stating something like "The app Numbers cannot be synced to this device".  I made a few more attempts at syncing with the same result, I decided to just update the OS and maybe things will work again.  After upgrading to iOS 5, I was able to reinstall numbers, but all of my spreadsheets were gone.
Ruining my phone sounds less than ideal.    Any ideas?

  • Sent emails missing spaces

Hi i am currently using Apple Mail 2.1.3 to send and receive emails. Pretty much since the day i have been using this all my clients have complained that when they receive emails sent from me a lot of the words are joined together and missing spaces. But looking in my sent box they look fine to me.
having tested this a bit further in my office i am the only mac user but my colleagues use a PC and have no problem with sent emails.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
    thanks,
    Martin

Hi i changed the font to a standard default (arial) but no suck luck still. I can't have plain text emails as company policy to have a coloured footer.
Here is an example of how one of my clients received an email i sent them. Again most of my clients have this problem with me.

  • SENT emails missing

I have a brand new iPad mini. I'm finding that SENT email do not seem to get saved. At least I can't find them. Im familiar with the iOS 5.x interface on my iPhone and where to look for SENT emails there. Is there something different about iOS 6? Or is this a glitch? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you sure it was sent and not in your drafts?

  • Missing sent emails

    Hi
it's my first time writting a topic here, but I just want to know if I am the only stupid in the world suffering this problem.
I have configured my Mobileme IMAP account on mail Mail.app 3.6
I have changed the smtp server with the configuration of my office email, so when I send an email it seems I do it from my office email account.
    Until there everything works perfect.
But, every now and then, when I send an email, it won't be saved in the sent folder. It is actually sent (because I have answers to the email) but it just won't appear in the sent folder.
This is very inconvenience to me, because sometimes, the sent email is the proof of e.g. a booking or whatever, and I need the email ....
I have been fighting against this problem for months, and I don't know if this is a Leopard problem, a Mail.app problem, a Internet connection problem, a general IMAP problem, a configuration problem , a mobileme problem...
A couple years ago, I used to use entourage as mail software, and I don't remember having this problem, although I don't remember either if the account was configured as an IMAP account.
I have partially found a "solution" setting me always as a Cco, and making a rule that all emails coming from my address have to be moved to a folder I have created (sentbackup). So I always have a copy, but this is just more trafic, more space,...
Is this happening to anyone alse? do you experts know what could be the problem?
I would really apprecite if you help me on this
Muchas gracias and greetings from Spain!

  • Sent email to certain addresses disappears

I suspect this is happening with others but I know for sure it is happening with one particular address. When I send email to my parent's email address which is an msn account from my .mac mail acct using mac mail, the message simply disappears. It shows as sent on my macbook but they never receive it. I have sent emails in the past without a problem and I can receive email from them without a problem. I sent a test email to my hotmail acct at the same time I sent one to their msn acct and mine made it but theirs did not. I checked their junk folder and it is not in there either.
    Any ideas?

You are not alone. I'm having similar thing happen when I reply to certain emails, though it seems more random to me. Both the original email and the reply disappear. Nothing seems to be sent and I don't get anything in my Sent folder. If I run a Spotlight check for either one, they show up in the listing and I can open them in individual windows, but I cannot open them in the Mail viewer.
Another oddity is that the reply shows up multiple times in the Spotlight listing. Obviously the file exists somewhere in the computer, though I can't find where. I believe that if you shut-down your computer or perhaps just close Mail, these missing emails disappear for good! Not a good thing if you cannot rely on your mail program.
