Missing rectangular red Firefox icon at top left

After a complete failure of my computer's motherboard, I now have a new computer. I downloaded a copy of Firefox as before which is release 7.0.1 which tells me it is up to date. The red rectangular icon at top left marked Firefox which I was used to seeing and using is no longer there. Can you explain this and tell me how to get it back? There are also other differences in the layout compared to what I was seeing before and I have been unable to restore the same layout using the available setup options. Thank you.

Want to install XMavericks on Mackbook but do not have apple apps store in apple icon on top left hand corner of screen. All information tells me to click on this icon in order to install XMavericks. but I can't. What csn I do? Please help a computer learner. Thank you from Carmel

You would need to find out if your computer could even run Mavericks 10.9 before going through the hoops to get it; first thing would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD install disc, those sell for about $19. Then be sure to backup your system on the computer to an external archive (hard disk drive) then try & do the upgrade to 10.6; and then use Software Update in the system to look for update parts for it, including 10.6.8.
Also a later version of Flash player/plugin and other parts. A newer browser such as Firefox, too, may be an idea if the included Safari is not up to date.
Considerations include enough chip RAM installed, depending on what model MacBook you have this can vary; and enough free-space on the hard disk drive for the system and applications to work correctly; as OS X does use free space or unused capacity as temporary files and virtual memory to supplement installed chip RAM.
You can use a 'serial number lookup service' online to help determine the MacBook build model/year and whatever update or upgrade it may be capable.
Some early models of MacBook (coreduo 1.83, 2.0) have an upper limit on the OS X version they can use, later models with the core2duo may also have a few among their vintage that may not be suitable for Mavericks. There are several users of these who do not go past Snow Leopard if they have no newer applications, since older applications with Rosetta helping them run, won't work in a later system w/o Rosetta.
    So there are considerations.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Help - Duplicate icons in top left corner of screen

Just been using my iPad, and during an app update (a free one from the apps store), my screen suddenly changed, and now the home screen has a pile of icons on top of each other in the top left corner of the screen. These icons are duplicates of the ones on my home screen, and the ones in the original places don't work.
I can drag these new icons away from the top left, and I end up with two of each icon on the home screen, but only one works. Also, I can drop them anywhere on the screen, and other icons don't move to make way like they did before. However, as soon as I scroll across to another screen and then scroll back to the home screen, the pile of icons is back in the top left.
There is also a new icon called Productivity, which looks like a container for other icons. I have no idea where this came from, as I've never seen it before. If I open it, it has three of my apps inside, messages, ibooks and notes. I can drag these back onto the home screen, but again, when I scroll away and back, things are as they were with the three apps inside this productivity.
Anyone any idea what's going on? The iPad is pretty unusable now.
    Thanks for any help.

Three of your apps ended up in a folder that was somehow created on your iPad. That folder was named Productivity by the iPad.
Restart or reset the iPad and see if you can control the apps on the screen afterward.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Red light appearing in top left corner of touchscreen

Has anyone else experienced this problem, where intermittently, a red light edge appears in top left corner of screen?
Doesn't always appear.....which makes me think there is a defect with the screen itself.....any thoughts?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's the notification indicator. Swipe down from the corner to show the status bar, and you'll see an exclamation mark icon. Tap it to see the notification.

  • Add Icon at top left of Application Install window

How do I add an icon to the top left of the Application Install window? I have seen a few apps with this feature. I have already added the standard 16,32,48,128 icons with no issues.
Is this a matter of having a verified code signed certificate?
    Thanks!

OK, so the icon will automatically show up at the top left when packaged with a signed code cert.
Is the icon grabbed from the standard set of icons? I'm assuming it's the 128 icon.
I couldn't find any documentation on this, perhaps my search skills are lacking.
    Thanks again,

  • Icon in Top Left Changes After Gnome 2.10 Upgrade

I upgraded to gnome 2.10 and the icon (the foot) in the top left on the apps menu changed from my custom (apple) icon back to the default.
Any idea how to fix it?
It's a minor thing, but I can't figure it out and it's annoying me.

In GConf editor, go to apps -> panel -> objects -> menu_bar and click on the custom_icon checkbox. That will allow you to specify a custom icon.
    Hope that helps,

  • I had the orange, rectangular FF button in the top left of the home page & lost it again HELP!

What is so strange about the phrase "rectangular, orange Firefox button"??? It is a relatively new feature and you can access several functions by clicking on it....I had it on my window...now it no longer is there....what other details can I give????

    Hi ellsler13,
You should take a look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-get-firefox-button Firefox Button] Knowledge Base article. It will show you how to turn the button back on. Don't worry, nothing is broken. It is just a setting.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • What happened to Firefox? When I upgraded I got another line at the top with a red Firefox icon and pull down tab at one end and the three minimize, maximize and delete buttons on the right side.

The homepage would not load. The back arrow doesn't work. There is no bookmark page. To get it to all work i have to click on the house looking icom to get the homepage to load, right clik again to access the toolbars and left click on the bookmarks oolbars to remove it, the right again and left click again to have it appear. The passwords formerly on webpages do not appear and have to be entered manually. All in all I would rather have IE if i can't get my old Firefox back! edit'''bold text'''

  • I lost my toolbar, tabs on top and bottom. Don't even have the Firefox name at top left to acces the help option.

The Firefox name and the bar at the top w/ bookmarks, etc. and the bar at the bottom have disappeared. I've tried solutions but w/out the Firefox name and the bottom bar, I don't know what to do. • How do i change the color of "Firefox" button on top-left? It just doesn't match with my favorite firefox personas.

It is some kind of dark yellow and is very bright as it seems with some personas. Changing color should not be that big of a deal and i don't wanna download any themes.

It is not straight forward but can be done. You can do this by adding code/scripts to a file called [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] to change the appearance of the button. The Stylish add-on makes it easier to make the changes, the latest version of Stylish is available from http://forum.userstyles.org/discussion/24534/stylish-for-firefox-1.1b4
For some samples of scripts you can add to Stylish to change the appearance of the button see http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/921416-share-your-custom-firefoxminefield-4-stylish-scripts/
There are also many scripts available at http://userstyles.org/
Note that some scripts will no longer work as they would have been written for earlier beta versions of Firefox.

  • I can not get the same looking homepage you show with the firefox in the top left corner, how do I get there?

I just get a page that says congratulations mozilla you have the newest download.
I can't drag anything anywhere as I am not on the right HOME page
nothing like the one that you show in the demos.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Oh... one other thing. The orange Firefox button is for the compact two-column menu. To get that, you need to turn off the classic menu bar. This article has the steps: [[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar]].

  • I do not see the firefox button at top left of page to acess private browsing

I am computer illeterate. I have pc I just upgraded to 4.0. I did the tutorial and it says to press the "firefox" button, I do not have one on this page. what is wrong?

You do not have the Firefox button if you are using Windows XP. Yours will show the Menu bar instead. The Firefox button will only show if you are using Windows 7 or Vista:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Menu%20bar%20is%20missing
So do you have the Menu bar showing? If you do, go to: Tools > Options > Privacy and CHECK the Private Browsing
