Missing RX neighbours in WCS

I've recently upgrade the wireless infrastructure to the latest versions of code. but since doing that when, i go into the monitor page for an access point in the wcs at the bottom it should show all the other access point it can see and their signal strength but now its not showings anything. i think this could be causing problems with our location applience as our tracking has gone a bit screwey. any ideas?
Currently using 1242 Lwap ap's
4404 wireless lan controllers
2700 location appliance and a wireless lan controller. all running the latest version of code.

This is a known issue documented in release notes of 5.1. This should not impact location accuracy.
CSCsr27204-Rx neighbor information is missing from the Monitor > Access Point window when you choose an active access point and click on either radio.
Workaround: The Rx neighbor and other similar information is available from the Maps page. If you hover over the access point in Maps for each radio tab, an Rx neighbor link shows the complete information.

when a client association occurs, the timestamp is referred to the time at which the WLC receives the request of association or the ACK association?
ex:

is possible to have a timestamp with milliseconds precision?

WCS reponds slow when generating the Client Association reports

Hello,
I have set a Wireless Network in of our client's corporate office - which consists of one WLC4404, 42 x 1131AG Access Points. WCS is used to mainly to monitor the AP reachability and Client Association and Deassociations from the WLAN.
When i click on Run Now of the Client Association reports; the report is generated successfully. But when i try to view other pages such as Monitor>Network Summary - the WCS stops responding and it takes approximately 7 mins to display the Monitor>network Summary page. At this time i have observed that the server is reachable during the continous ping and the Server CPU utilization remains to 8% and Memory utilization remains to 1.56GB.
Error Message: Error getting dataa from Server. Make sure you have connectivity and the Server is UP.
Server used is a Standard Server HP Proliant ML110 with 1.86GHz Intel Xeon CPU and 2GB RAM. Operating System used is Win 2003 Server with SP1.
Please can one help me solving this problem.

When I look at the Monitor->Access Point->Access_point_Name->Mesh links-> link detail (parent) system shows link statistics graphs only for one day.
If I select to view 1 week for example then all data older that one day are truncated and not shown on statistics graphs.
Please see attached picture as an example.
WLC ver. 6.0.182.0 Boot version 5.2.157.0
WCS ver 6.0.170.0
This is for node which is up and running for almost one week already but graph data starts only from yesterday (March 30).
When I checked yesterday graph was starting from march 29 however the system has facility to give us last 1 month, last 1 week etc.
May be I miss some settings in WCS for this, but I expected that system just keeps filling statistical database without truncating any data and we will be able to see even 1year statistics on the graph.

Sorry for the late response being our weekend on Friday/Saturday. However here are the values you requested in the attached image file. These values are default, nothing was changed since from WCS installation - should keep data for at least one month but WCS shows data only for one day

WCS Alarm Status shows green but LAP is unplugged ?! Oper Staus shows Down

Hello,
we are operating a Cisco WLAN environment with 1242 and 1131 LAP. Some of them have been converted from AP to LAP.
Now we took some LAP off the wall.
They are now packed in a box in our storage room.
But the WCS is showing a green Alarm Status for these LAP and as Oper Status Down.
How can that be ?
Is there a way to fix this problem, because we want to see the Alarm Status in Red.

This is very interesting. If I try to put myself in the WCS developer's shoes, I think:
- if you get an alarm for missing AP, then acknowledge the alarm, WCS has no reason to re-display the same alarm. This is precisely what Acknowledge is for, to say "don't bother me with this issue anymore".
- Even if you manually remove the AP from WCS, it clearly keeps some memory of it, at least for a while. This is something you can clearly see if you run a report of any kind, WCS has to keep track of objects even if you remove them.
My suggestion would be:
- Unacknowledge the alarm, then delete it... acknowledging an alarm is probably not the best way to deal with removing an AP. You would use Aknowledge for alarms such as "your neighbour AP keep being detected as rogue, you can't remove your neighbour AP but don't want to hear about this warning anymore." You acknowledge the alarm, WCS keeps it in its database and remembers NOT to bother you with it anymore (exactly what happens in your case).
For an AP you remove, I would not acknowledge the alarm, but simply delete it after having removed the AP. This removes the alarm from the WCS database.
If you ever re-plug this AP to the network, WCS may remember it, but any new alarm about it will display.

Missing XML files in Export of Portal Resource in WebCenter Portal App

Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0
1) Create a JSF fragment in the Portal Project/WebContent/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages -> untiltled3.jsff.
2) From the Component Palette -> Webcenter Content Display Templates, drag a Content Template Def onto the jsff.
3) Create var = "node".
4) Drag an AdfOutputText into the contentTemplateDef.
5) Save.
6) In Application Navigator, right click on untitled3.jsff -> View Page Definition. No page definition has been created. Create a new page definition.
7) In Application Navigator, right click on untitled3.jsff -> Create Portal Resource.
7.1) Select my Content Repository Name(already created a content server Application Resource called UML)
7.2) Content Type - IDC:GlobalProfile
7.3) Content Type Default View: true
7.4) View ID - testTemplate
7.5) Display Name - untitled3
7.6) Content Directory - defaulted to /C:/Projects/Application1/Portal/public_html/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/shared/
8) Click OK.
9) In Application Navigator, right click on untitled3.jsff -> Export Portal Resource.
1) Export Archive File Name -> M:\testTemplate6102011
10) Click OK.
11) Results in the following:

Can't get LEAP to work on new LWAPP WCS

I have the WCS and LWAPP talking. If I do WEP or no encryption I can connect to the AP, once I turn on LEAP I get nothing.
1) On WCS in Security I have my ACS server defined.
2) On WLAN's under the SSID I have 802.1x checked in layer 2.
3) I am using 104 bit encryption.
4) On my ACS server I have a entry for the same IP address as VLAN2 (the vlan I am trying to connect to).
5) The AAA client is a "Cisco Radius Aironet".
When I look at my ACS server I don't get any logs for failed or passed attempts, it's like the request is never getting to the ACS server
I am using Cisco ADU for the client, it never passes the 1st step- "starting leap authentication"
WCS version - 3.2.116.21
AP LWAPP version - 12.3(7)JX3
ACS on Windows 2K version - 3.3(3) Build 11
ADU version - 2.6.0.1

Try setting your layer 2 security to WPA or WPA2 rathr than 802.1x. If you're using a client that supports LEAP, it should support WPA as well (latest version of Centrino drivers support more than you could ever want!)
Personally, now WPA and WPA2 are out and well supported, I don't really see any need to be trying to get WEP working, even in it's dynamic form.
Also, even if you select RADIUS (Cisco Aironet) on the ACS Server, it seems to prefer ports 1812 rather than 1645 - I've got LEAP, EAP-FAST, PEAP and EAP-TLS all working between a WLC and an ACS using WPA/WPA2 encryption and the WLC/ACS talking on port 1812...

WCS 5.0.56.2 Auto-Provisioning

In WCS 5.0 Cisco introduces Auto provisioning of WLCs.
Unfortunately there is not much documentation available, except for option explanation.
If i understood this right, Auto-Provisioning takes care of the initial setup of an out-of-the-box WLC. A very handy solution for wide spread WAN environment.
Has anyone here been working with this option, and can direct me into the right direction?
I try to auto-provide initial setup parameters from my WCS 5.0.56.2 to a WLC 4402 running 4.0.128.0 on a factory default configuration.
I hooked up the WLC with his glasfiber and his management port to our management vlan and also configured DHCP on one of the switches for our management vlan.
WCS is also hooked up to this management vlan.
I created filters, in WCS for either Serial No. and MAC-ADDRESS providing required parameters for initial setup.
Those filters remain idle, and the WLC doesn't recieve an IP-address from the DHCP scope configured.
Am i missing something? Do i like this function to do things it is not supposed to do?
Please let me know if someone had better experience.

Could you tell us a little more? I try to make it work too, but with little success.
What I do is:
- create a config group from my controller templates, do not add any controller to this config group, put in it all templates from my controller (including the local management user and WLANs).
- Create an auto provisioning filter, using this config group and my controller Ip addresses and MAC address, enable the filter and make sure it is not set to monitor only.
- I do see a file with my controller MAC address created at that instant, so I am close to being happy.
- In my DHCP server, option 150 points to WCS.
When I clear my controller config and reboot, it gets to autoinstall, receives an IP address from DHCP and the option 150 information. It then downloads the file with its MAC address... but no template is in there! I can't connect to my controller until I push a username and password to it, and none of my templates are there, no WLAN, nothing...
Any quick idea on what you did that I do not do?

WCS can't logon to ACS 3.3

Just fired up a new Windows WCS install and have been trying various optoins to get it to work with ACS (for admin only at this point). I've tried RADIUS (IETF) and tacacs+(Cisco IOS) with various failed attempts logged in ACS. Any ideas what I'm missing?

I've also been trying to use ACS to authenticate users to manage my WCS. I have not been able to make it work either. During my research I found this document which states it is no possible at this time. Not sure what version of ACS or WCS they are referring to.

WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade

Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0 version
2. Export WCS database
3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
7. Patch NCS software
8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
1. Export LMS 3.2 database
2. Install LMS 4.2 software
3. Install license to LMS 4.2
4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?

WCS Maps - Heat Signatures on multiple floors

I have a APs setup in my 11 story building on all the even floors starting with floor 2. I have added the maps for all 11 floors into a building setup in our WCS. However I am not seeing the heat signatures on the odd floors in which I would expect to see them after putting in the right dimensions in the building/floor config(s). Is there something I am missing in order for the heat signatures to show up on the odd floors from the even floor APs? Below is info on my equipment/software:

Hi Jeremy,
heatmaps are not calculated in 3 dimensions. WCS can't know your floor height, neither the attenuation of the floor so it can't compute on a floor the heatmaps of APs placed on other floors.

WCS does not support wall mount orientation of 1131 & 1000 APs w/int. ant.

I have been unable to determine how to indicate wall mount orientation of APs in the WLC for the 1000 series (AireSpace) and 1131AG series access points.
I can set the rotational direction they are pointing if ceiling mounted , but cannot indicate if they are located on the wall or ceiling.
I am assuming a ceiling mount configuration is all that is supported in the WCS.
As an aside, when attempting to correctly orient the antenna direction on the 1000 series AP, the diagram used on the WCS to indicate the orientation of "0 degrees" mark on the access point shows an AP as if it were sitting on a table (an invalid orientation - wall & ceiling are the recommended orientations). This means that you have to mentally "flip" the controller over to account for ceiling mount and then determine which way the arrow should be pointed on the WCS map - not much fun.
Any suggestions for dealing with wall-mounted orientation? Have I missed something?
For ceiling mount installations, how critical is it that the antennae orientation be configured on 1131AG and 1000 series models?
For wall mount, I would imagine that for determining location and RF planning that the wall mount / ceiling mount orientation would have a significant affect, yet I cannot seem to find any way to set this orientation.

WCS: How to filter alarms from trusted external AP's

Hello,
I have some Access Points outside of my LAN but trusted by me. I have tried to mark them in WCS as 'Known Internal' or 'Acknowledge External' but anyway I still get critcal alarms 'AP Impersonation...' (every 5 minutes) and major alarms 'AP is missing...' regarding these 'trusted' AP's.
Is there any way to avoid these reoccuring 'false' alarms?
Running WCS version 3.2.40 and WLC version 4.0.155.0.
