Missing Scenes of Project in iDVD after exported from iMovie

So I finished a project in iMovie, the project is around 1.5 hours. I've made it into 20 different scenes (chapter mark), but when I export it to iDVD there are 2 scenes missing. I already change the encoding settings to Professional Quality but it makes no difference the scenes are still missing.
Anybody know what to do?

Yes, it is very clear and very confusing.  I don't think chapter markers are the problem.
Is the video all from the same source?  In other words, if the video in chapters 3 and 4 are in an odd .avi format, for example, perhaps iDVD is having trouble handling it and the video needs to be converted to another format.
You may also wish to try some of the basic strategies suggested in this forum -- make sure your versions of iDVD and QuickTime are up to date, make sure there's enough hard disk space on your main HD (15+ G on boot drive), delete your preference file for iDVD (plist file) since it can become corrupted, empty your iDVD cache...

  • IDVD: Files exported from iMovie 11, one works, one "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format"

I used footage from the same camera (taken on the same weekend using the same settings) in several different iMovie "projects". All were shared from iMovie 11 as "File" using the quality setting "SD 480p".
In Quicktime Player, all ".mp4" files will play and they show the following info in its inspector:
    Format: H.264, 854 x 480
                  AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
One exported file will drag, drop, and burn in iDVD just fine. The other two files show the error "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format" as soon as I try and drag them into iDVD.
The only difference I can find is that the one file that works is about 803MB, while the files that don't work are 1.87GB and 3.98GB.
All files and the iDVD project are in the same folder on my startup volume. I've tried deleting com.apple.idvd but that didn't help. I've tried rebooting and starting the iDVD project from scratch but I get the same results.
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2
    Any ideas?

Hello Bengt and thank you again for the replies.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 which has very limited quality adjustments. In every case I chose the smallest size, which iMovie 10.0.1 calls "SD 480p (854 x 480)". I used this same setting on all exports.
I still have iMovie HD (6.0.4) and iMovie '11 (9.0.9) on my iMac so I tried both of them. In both cases, they could import only the file that works in iDVD. Both older versions of iMovie choked on the longer movies shared from iMovie 10.0.1.
I have many many hours into the editing of these clips and I do not want to have to go back and redo everything in an older version of iMovie. Might I be better off going with a different DVD creation software? Or am I out of luck? Because I can't really change iMovie 10.0.1's export settings, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to get it to export it as something that iDVD can use (really, I can't even tell why it's different and why iDVD doesn't like it).
The software "WonderShare DVD Creator" has no issue with any of the files I've exported from iMovie 10.0.1.

  • Keynote presentation very blurry after exporting from imovie 08

    1. export keynote presentation as Quicktime .h264 size 512x384. The exported file is a .mov and the picture quality very good.
    2. Import .mov file into imovie as an event.
    3. Create a new project and drag event into project
    4. Share/export using quicktime
    5. End result is .mov but picture quality very blurry
Any suggestions as to why the final result is so poor quality?
I have tried most combinations of file type/settings/filters.
    Any help would be appreciated
    jebriordan

I converted it to QuickTime using the codec and frame rate you mentioned, but when I opened the converted file in FCE, the video played but there was only beeping for the audio.
I'm not sure what you meant by making my sequence settings and my media settings match, if you could give me a step by step to check that, that would be helpful. (I'm very new to this, so I don't really understand what you're talking about there.) My camera shoots in .mod format. I think iMovie then imports my .mod files and saves them as .mpeg files. Then it saves my projects as .m4v files. (That may be incorrect. That's just my guess as to why I had the movie in .m4v format, because I didn't do anything to it other than save it.)

  • After export from imovie pictures skips

After I import from camera and into imovie(Where the video plays perfectly), But when I export the movie the picture skips. I tryed to export via quicktime and set it as pal and all others. When I export it´s like the whole camera is shacking but audio is good. What do I do?

Also three other things to add:
    1. The video on both computers is presenting in a 4:3 format instead of 16:9.
    2. The Second computer presenting the video is a 400 MHz G4 Tower with 10.3 OSX
    3. The audio is completely fine but there is no video.

  • High CPU usage after export from iMovie

Makes you go hmmmmm...... Mavericks 10.9.4, 2.3 GHz i7 16 GB 1 TB. 33% full. A 32 minute camcorder movie. No editing just export. Latest iMovie and everything else no added plugins or 3rd party anything. While exporting the movie 1280X720 it uses about 200% CPU (2 virtual cores)? After the export is done it starts using about 350% CPU and will do so forever. I thought maybe it was straigtening up afterwards but it went on for about a half hour. This causes me no problems but like I said it made me go hmmmmmmm..... In case you couldn't tell I'm a newbie. I had XP for about 800 years and this is my Christmas present. It's wonderful.

Yes they are in the same folder. After I added my Exchange account under Configuration | Mail, Contacts & Calendar, mail started to eat CPU time. If I look a the activity window of mail I see a message "downloading incoming messages" in chunks of 50-100 messages every few minutes. Maybe this is the downloading of bodies (and attachements) of my large 50K messages archive map.
I just disabled the mail part of the Exchange account under Configuration | Mail, Contac ts & Calendar and the CPU eating seems to stop. I'll just see the coming hours.
I currently do not use any mail plugins.

  • IDVD Stops Responding when Exporting from iMovie

I'm using iDVD and iMovie (from iLife 06 and fully up to date) on a MacPro (also up to date on all software, MacOSX, Quicktime etc).
This proceedure has worked before several times but now results in a non-responding iDVD every time I try it, including an archive and re-install and a complete new install of OSX and all software on a new partition.
    What I'm doing.....
[1] Recording a TV programme on EyeTV (410) and exporting it to iMovie - sucessful every time
[2] Edit the iMove project and add chapter markers and save project - no problem.
[3] Export to iDVD - iDVD shows exporting in progress and whilst this is still showing iDVD launches
[4] iDVD starts playing the music from a std theme for a few seconds and then stops. Then resumes the music after resizing the window and then after a couple of more seconds freezes. From the Dock I can see that iMove and iDVD are "not responding"
[5] Eventually iMovie completes it's "export" and then starts responding normally. iDVD continues to show as non responding although I can move the window around the screen. I have to force quit iDVD to get it to close down.
    I have tried:
    Re-exporting the project from EyeTV
Deleting the preferences files for iMove and iDVD
Deleting the iLife suite and re-installing
Doing an OSX archive and re-install
Installing a fresh OSX (10.4.8) on a different drive and installing fresh software
Running Disk Utility - clean bill of health on both drives
    Repaired permissions
The Console reports the following errors when exporting from iMove to iDVD:

Result - problem persists. I'm at a loss as what to do next. Any suggestions greatfully received.

Yes, tried that when I deleted the preferences. Disk Utility did not report any permissions needed repairing.
What really mystifies me is that this export to iDVD did work once and I expected it to resume once I'd created a fresh OSX install along with all the iLife apps on a new partition, but it remained the same!
Perhaps there is some sort of other software conflict going on? I have Adobe CS2, MS Office, Toast and FMP installed all are latest editions. On the utilities front I have installed Stuffit Deluxe, Internet Cleanup, Contour USB controller for video editing and a LogicTech wireless trackball. Again all the drivers are the latest releases.
Does anyone know if there are any preferences associated with the other not responding applications listed in my other post that I could try the delete-reboot trick on?

  • Serious vid degradation after exporting from '08 to 6

As I attempt my first iMovie project, I wanted to go from iMovie 08 to iMovieHD ---so I can place chapter markers--- before finishing up in iDVD. I exported from '08 as advised by David Pogue in THE MISSING MANUAL (SHARE > EXPORT USING QUICKTIME MOVIE using APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC), imported into 6, and... The picture quality suffered badly; there's this "pulsating" effect, wherein the video quality degrades and then clears up every couple of seconds.
Any insight into what is happening and/or what I'm doing wrong? THANKS!

    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 08 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 08 about 10%).
iMovie 08 has two areas: events and projects. Events are just collections of clips. If you import DV video into iMovie 08, they end up as DV clips, at original quality in events. You can import these clips into iMovie 06 projects without quality loss by just starting a new project and importing the clip files from the iMovie 08 Events folder. This however makes a complete copy of the clip inside the iMovie '06 project file.
In the Finder, open the "Events" folder associated with your captured/imported files, Copy/Move them to another location, discard the "Event" from iMovie '08, close the application, Open iMovie 06 and import/Drag and Drop as you normally would.

  • Best practice for exporting from iMovie '08 to iDVD

I am looking to find out what is the best practice for exporting from iMovie '08 to iDVD. I have read the other postings that give the basic howto (export to Media Browser then select the video in iDVD). However, my question is a little more technical. I have 1080i HD projects. I am interested in burning them to DVD in the best possible quality. What setting should I be using when I publish to Media Browser?
I am wondering about quality loss due to more than one conversion/compression. I suspect that when I export to the Media Browser then this is occurring. If I am not mistaken iMovie is using something like H.264 for this. Then, when I run iDVD I suspect it will it do another conversion/compression, I think to get to MPEG2. Not only could this result in a loss of quality but also it will take extra time. I am interested to know what others think about this.
Finally, I am looking to create DVDs for a lot of video. I am wondering if there are any USB or firewire hardware devices out there that could speed up the compression. I use the Elgato Turbo.264 when I want to encode to H.264 but I wonder if there is something similar for DVD creation.
    Thanks in advance.

the standards for videoDVD are 720x480, and usually mpeg2 encoded..
so, your HiDef project HAS to be 'downsampled' somehow..
I would Export with Qucktime/apple intermediate => which is the 'format' your project is allready, and you avoid any useless 'inbetween encoding'..
iDVD will 'swallow' this huge export file - don't mind: iDVD cares for length, not size.
iDVD will then convert into DVD-standards..
you can 'raise' quality, by using projects <60min - this sets iDVD automatically to highest technical possible bitrate
hint: judge pic quality on a DVDplayer + TV.. not on your computer (DVDs are meant for TVdelivery)

  • Quick Question (re:exporting from iMovie into iDVD)

    Hello everyone!
I just have a quick question for you all... (I want to see if this is normal - I'm on a deadline and this is kind of freaking me out)
So, we have a 20 minute or so video in iDVD. It plays fine, etc etc. The goal is to burn it to a DVD.
I used the "Export -> to iDVD" function in iMovie, which launched iDVD.
But here is the weird thing: nothing comes up in iDVD. It doesn't make a new file, doesn't give me anything... it is just open, waiting for me to create a new project to work with.
YET, if I look in the Activity Monitor, I do see that EncoderServer (using 123% CPU) and ThumbnailServer (both iDVD processes) are running.... but shouldn't iDVD have told me it is working or that it is dealing with data?
This is very un-"apple". I totally would have expected a progress bar of some sort in iDVD telling me it is working or something.... or is something wrong and I should try to export it in a different way?
(I guess the underlying question is: when you export from iMovie to iDVD, does iDVD normally give you any 'heads-up' that it is working? how long does it normally take to open the project in iDVD?)

    Hi Matt!
when you export from iMovie to iDVD, does iDVD normally give you any 'heads-up' that it is working? how long does it normally take to open the project in iDVD?)
    Yes, and it's instant.
What you should see is iDVD opening and asking you to create a new project, It will suggest naming it the same as the iMovie project.
There are reports that exporting from Imovie to iDVD can produce problems. What I do is save the iMovie project and close iMovie. Open iDVD, create the new DVD project, then go the File menu in iDVD, scroll down to Import, and in the side menu select Video. This open your Movie Folder, wherein resides your iMovie project. Select it and it imports into iDVD in a flash.
Remember: iMovie projects go in the Movies Folder, iDVD projects go in the Documents folder. Change that, and they get very confused and unhappy.

  • When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks...)

When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks... the first exported to iDVD ok, but the next one of 15 minutes balked for the same reason -- too long...)

    I wish I had a mac :-P
Sadly, this is Windows machine so I dont have a non-iOS version of iMovie.  I have 2 ideas left.  The first is xfering the project to my iPhone 4 and trying to export it there (if that works, awesome but geez apple the iPad 2 is way more powerful than the iphone 4.. youd think I wouldnt even have to attempt this).  The 2nd idea is to start at the end of my movie and delete clips and sounds backwards, trying to export each time to find whatever clip is causing the issue (when the movie was 5 minutes it mixed no probem, so I only need to go that far).
    Wish me luck?
Also, is anyone else besides me and the 5 dudes in the other threads having this issue??  Speak up, guys - Apple cant a fix a problem they dont know about.

  • Audio drops when movie exported from iMovie into iDVD

    Hi there,
I am a problem which I can't seem to fix.
I have created a 7 minute long slideshow in imovie with MP3 files from iTtunes embedded. The video and audio are fine when exported as a MOV file (and within iMovie itself). But when exported into iDVD for burning, the audio drops out completely after 3 and a half minutes.
I've tried updating iMovie, iDVD etc., deleting encoded assets as it says to do here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24043?viewlocale=en_US
    to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips? My friend's wedding is on Saturday!
    Thanks so much.

  • Cannot Open Excel File after exporting from Disco Plus

    Hi there,
I got a question from one user having issue with opening Excel file after exporting from Disco Plus.
The report has been using for a while and he is using Excel 2003 version and Discoverer 10g(10.1.2.2), he never got this kind of error before, just recently got error.
After exporting from Disco Plus he saved file on his desktop and when he tries to open the excel it says "Cannot be Accessed, can be corrupted...." but this is not from network drive since he saved file on local desktop or C drive.
Also not for all reports, only this particular report and only specific parameter, for example for parameter 2008 Feb opened successfully, but for2009 Feb he gets this error when trying to open excel.
i tried in excel 2007 also , i dont think this is Excel version error, am not sure.
Also after go live last week (we upgraded database from 9i to 10g) but i am not sure this causes ,since for one parameter working, for other parameter not working.
Actually we should get one window for Macro when we try to open excel, but he is not getting it seems.
Any ideas/thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

    Rod,
Thanks for your quick response on this.
Yes, we can export to other formats as well, but actually exporting is working, after saving the file on our local desktop/drive and when we try to open we get this kind messages or we cannot open the file, we should get message window for Macro to enable/disable but for this report we are not getting this either,
Also this happens only for specific parameters, like i mentioned above it works I mean excel file opens for one set of parameters but for some other set of parameters cannot open.
For example :- when we enter FEB 2008 it works, if we enter FEB 2009 it won't open the file.
    This is weird
I am still working on this issue, may be better to recreate the report again might be helpful,
    Any ideas/comments/thoughts would be great
    Thanks

  • How do I export from IMovie when "not enough room in Heap Zone" error code appears?   How can I correct,  what to Do.."export movie" insteand of Media browser or IDVD?  Finalize movie?  I want to burn it to DVD!

How do I export from IMovie to Wondershare Creator to Make DVD and share hour long movie when I am unable to "publish" movie on Media Browser of IDVD because the error code "not enough room in heap Zone/ " appears and function is aborted.
I shortened the movie, that is no cure...Correcting date info on clips does not pertain.  Why would Apple throw roadblocks in your way without solving problems they create?
A techie made an appointment on the phone and was totally incapable of addressing the problem.
    What is a heap zone????

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • PDFs dull in Acrobat after exporting from Indesign - again

    Hi folks,
I am aware of a previous post which discussed this issue which was apparently resolved, but it appears to have reared its ugly head again. The problem - since updrading to Mavericks and the Creative Cloud, pdfs in Acrobat are very dull after export from Indesign and it is not a transparency blend or Indesign issue. I understand Adobe blamed Apple for not updating their colour management software and the reply from Adobe was:
"We have found the root cause of this issue and are in process of providing a fix. Once this is done, we will test it to make sure that it works as expected and will release an update patch for all our users."
I am running the latest version or everything but it appears to still be a problem. I have also uninstalled Acobat XI and tried earlier versions without success. I have a print job to send off tomorrow and I am very nervous about how this will print.

Sorry about that, I apparently forgot to attach the file; have done so now.
The method I'm using for creating outlines is simply to use the "Create Outlines" command under the Type menu within InDesign. Then I create my PDF files by using the Export command under the File menu and choosing the PDF/X1a option. 99% of the time I get perfect results, it's only when I try to make outline type that I encounter this problem. You'll clearly see the artifacts in question in the example attached.
I don't know whether or not the press would have printed these artifacts, as you suggest, since no printer has been willing to execute a file that shows any anomaly in the proof process. I can't say that I blame them.
Hopefully you will see what I'm talking about and can recommend a solution, though I like your idea of simply giving them a properly executed file and then telling them to get a life. It hasn't worked so far, as I unfortunately deal with a lot of Neanderthals around here, but I suppose it's worth putting forth again the next time this issue arises. It will.
By the way, no print house of my choosing is this far behind the curve, if at all. These cavemen are always printers who have long-standing relationships with my clients, and for whatever reason (generally lowest cost I'm sure), the clients think they hung the moon. We, of course, no otherwise, but it does it profit a designer to tell his client he or she is crazy for using a printer who is a decade behind the technology curve.
We cowboy up and seek solutions, eh?

  • Idvd pixelated when exported from imovie

DVD looks great on imac but dvd is pixelated once exported from imovie and put on dvd using IDVD.
    Any suggestions

    Welcome to the forums, Alison.
I'm not a GarageBand user, but couldn't you export the GB audio tracks as a Quicktime file, and then import that audio track into iMovie? If it's combined in iMovie, then it should import into iDVD without a conceptual hitch.
