Missing Selection in Lightroom 3.2, Metadata

In the local Lightroom 3.2 Documentation it indicates that the options for the Library, Metadata, Options include …
Home / Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 / Organizing photos in the catalog / Viewing and editing metadata
View photo metadata
In the Library module, the Metadata panel displays the filename, file path, rating, text label, and EXIF and IPTC metadata of selected photos. Use the pop-up menu to choose a set of metadata fields. Lightroom has premade sets that display different combinations of metadata.
With one or more photos selected in the Grid view, or with a single photo selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, choose any of the following from the pop-up menu at the top of the Metadata panel:
Default
Shows the filename, copy name, folder, rating, text label, and a subset of IPTC and EXIF metadata.
All
Shows the filename, copy name, file path, rating, text label, and all EXIF and IPTC metadata.
All Plug-In Metadata
Displays custom metadata created by third-party plug-ins. If you don’t have any plug-ins installed, filename, copy name, and folder are displayed.
EXIF
Shows the filename, file path, dimensions, and EXIF camera metadata such as Exposure, Focal Length, ISO Speed Rating, and Flash. If your camera records GPS metadata, the information appears as EXIF metadata.
EXIF and IPTC
Shows the filename, size, type, location, metadata status, as well as all EXIF and basic IPTC metadata.
IPTC
Shows the filename and basic IPTC metadata: Contact, Content, Image, Status, and Copyright metadata.
IPTC Extension
Shows the filename and IPTC metadata for model and artwork releases and other types of licensing rights.
Large Caption
Shows a large caption edit box and the copyright box.
Location
Shows the filename, copy name, folder, title, caption, and location fields.
Minimal
Shows the filename, rating, plus Caption and Copyright metadata.
Quick Describe
Shows the filename, copy name, file path, rating, and the following EXIF and IPTC metadata: Dimensions, Date Time, Camera, Title, Caption, Copyright, Creator, and Location.
In the Metadata panel, if an IPTC metadata field displays an arrow, clicking the arrow is a quick way to find and view all photos containing the specific metadata.
If multiple photos with different metadata settings are selected, the metadata fields display <mixed>. To show the metadata for the photo that’s targeted (active) within the selection, choose Metadata > Show Metadata For Target Photo Only. If more than one photo is selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, the Metadata panel displays metadata only for the active photo.
The 3.2 version of lightroom does not include the ALL choice. Is this correct?
Thanks

The All option does appear to be missing in 3.2 (not sure if it was in 3.0 or not).  In any case, I usually develop my own templates manually.  You can also try out the plug-in at: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-presets which should generate the desired template (including an "all" template) if you so desire.  I am not related to this developer but you might take a look at his site for other plug-ins that might benefit your workflow.

  • Lightroom is changing metadata on imported photos

I imported a batch of RAW images into Lightoom 4.4 and see that a number of the images are displaying the icon warning that metadata has been changed in Lightroom although the affected images have only just been imported into the catalog and I have not made any changes to them. 130 images out of a batch of 300 are being affected.
I have selected the affected images and re-read the metadata using Metadata / Read Metadata from File, but within a couple of minutes of being re-read, the metadata changed icon has reappeared.
My initial thoughts were that I had changed one of the preferences and something was being automatically applied, but if that was the case then I would have expected it to be applied to all 300 images in the batch which were taken on the same day on a single camera. I've created a smart collection to identify images with metadata changed in Lightroom and find that they appear to be randomly spread through the catalog affecting both RAW images and jpegs from 3 different cameras.
In order to exclude any changes to Lightoom preferences I may have made, I installed Lightroom 4.1 on another PC and created a new catalog using the default settings. I then imported the same batch of 300 RAW images and confirmed that the same ones displayed the warning icon that metadata was changed in Lightroom .
Can anyone explain what might be causing this?
The PCs are Windows 7 Professional, Lightroom 4.4 (Lightroom 4.1 on the test PC), RAW files are from Nikon D90 and D7100 cameras.
    Thanks

I agree with most of your points:
    Points 1, 2, 3 - I agree.
    Point 4.
yes - all of my RAW files have .xmp files associated with them as they contain the metadata and keywords I have entered via Bridge/ACR.
Lightroom imports these details but shouldn't then be making any additional changes which need to be written back to the xmp files. This is where the problem has surfaced as Lightroom has made unknown changes to some of the photos and wants to write them back to the xmp files - see my comments below about point 6.
    Point 5.
By installing a trial copy of Lightroom 5.3 on a different PC and creating a new catalog I avoided carrying forward any incorrect preferences etc I may have previously used - all photos in this new catalog have been freshly imported for testing. The fact that Lightroom displays the "metadata has changed" icon to the same photos as my original Lightroom 4.4 installation after importing them demonstrates that an unidentified Lightroom process is making changes to some (but NOT ALL) of the imported photos.
The problem is identifying WHAT Lightroom has changed and the implications of these changes.
    Point 6.
"auto write to xmp" - This is not selected in my catalog settings as I want to be in control of when Lightroom updates the xmp files. At present I am still learning Lightroom so I don't want to accidentally write any changes back to the xmp files until I am completely sure of the consequences, hence my main work still takes place in ACR.
    Point 7.
My current workflow choice is to continue using xmp sidecar files as per the following statement at
    http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop-lightroom/faq.html
"Changes you make in Lightroom can appear in Camera Raw and vice versa. To complete this interactivity, changes in both Camera Raw and Lightroom need to be written to XMP metadata. This is so that each software application can recognize the other's edits."
    - but I have to be confident that any Lightroom changes to the xmp files are as a result of my planned actions.
    Point 8.
All of the default Develop Settings are deselected in my preferences/presets and I don't have any import presets - the develop settings and metadata are set to "none".
Do you have any suggestions on how to identify what changes Lightroom has made to the photos where it has set the "metadata has changed" icon?

  • Lightroom wont save metadata to more than one file at once

I've got a whole bunch of files in a catalogue that have had the metadata changed locally.  I want to overwrite with the metadata thats in my LR cat.  When I select them all and choose metadata>save metadata to files the little "!" dissapears from only file ata time.  I matters not which module I'm in or if I go library > save metadata. Of course I'm on a deadline.  Argh!
EDIT: I tried deleting the local XMP files and I get the same result

    *facepalm*

  • 'Missing select' error for update statement using WITH clause

    Hi,
I am getting the below error for update statement using WITH clause
SQL Error: ORA-00928: missing SELECT keyword
      UPDATE A
      set A.col1 = 'val1'
         where
      A.col2 IN (
      WITH D AS
      SELECT col2 FROM
      (SELECT col2, MIN(datecol) col3 FROM DS
      WHERE <conditions>
        GROUP BY PATIENT) D2
      WHERE
      <conditions on A.col4 and D2.col3>

    Hi,
The format of a query using WITH is:
    WITH  d  AS
        SELECT  ...  -- sub_query
    SELECT  ...   -- main query
You don't have a main query.  The keyword FROM has to come immediately after the right ')' that ends the last WITH clause sub-query.
That explains the problem based on what you posted.  I can't tell if the real problem is in the conditions that you didn't post.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a complete test script that people can run to re-create the problem and test their ideas.  Include a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
In the case of a DML operation (such as UPDATE) the sample data should show what the tables are like before the DML, and the results will be the contents of the changed table(s) after the DML.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

  • Missing SELECT keyword!

Another roadblock for me. I will try to describe this in detail.
    I am joining table A & B based on a key.
Then I am updating a column in Table A based on the same key which has been defined as the "Update Key".
The update of the column is done based on a CASE WHEN statement.
In the interface step: Integration - Insert new rows, it's building the following query:
    /* DETECTION_STRATEGY = NOT_EXISTS */
    insert into      MIG_PROF.ATTRIB_MATRIX T
    select
    from     ODIWORK.I$_ATTRIB_MATRIX S
    where     IND_UPDATE = 'I'
Where select expression is left blank!!
The error I am getting is:
    +928 : 42000 : java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00928: missing SELECT keyword+
    Need your help.

    Something is wrong...
I took a look in my IKM Oracle Incremental Update and the step 262 "Insert new row" is checked only to Insert... It means that this step shouldn't be active when you let, at interface, the Insert option to "No"
Edit this step in your IKM, go to Options tab and see if only the "Insert" option is checked. If not, check only it.

  • EDQ - error exporting to DB: ORA-00928 missing SELECT

    Hi,
I am using EDQ v12.1.3.0.0 and have created a very basic proof of concept process which takes as input a comma-demilited file through the Reader process and then has a Write processor to write the input to Staged Data.
I am then trying to Export the staged data to the relevant table in the database but get the following error message:
'xxxxxx failed: Problem writing insert batch to database: ORA-00928: missing SELECT keyword.
The input file/staged data only contains a single comma-delimited file with 3 fields and on the other side in the database, all I have in the schema is a single table which I am writing to. I can connect to my target DB datastore in EDQ without any problems.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Reading up on this error suggests that it is to with the SELECT keyword missing from a CREATE VIEW statement but I am not sure where or why it is trying to create a view.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Mike,
Many thanks for your quick response.
I am writing to an existing table and wasn't seeing the three options which you've suggested, and which I've seen also appear in the documentation. But based on what you've said above, I now understand that I won't see those options because I am running a standalone export by right-clicking in the tree, rather than in a job.
The target table didn't have a PK defined and I have since added one and ran the stand-alone export again and it has worked this time - Thanks. Thanks also for pointing out that the export will be DELETING and INSERTING - I was wondering why each time the export was failing it was removing records from the table, as I thought in this mode it would just be doing a straightforward INSERT. (So it was doing the DELETE part ok but failing on the INSERT).
I would also like to know another couple of things please.
    1) How can I add this Export to a newly created Job? I have created a Job and put my Process in there, but when I try and drag-and-drop the Export, I get a no-entry sign indicating that I'm not allowed to do this. My target datastore is server-based rather than client-based and I thought that this should be ok if doing an export.
    2) Is it possible to call database stored procedures on the target database and then let that take care of inserts? E.g. rather than letting EDQ insert the records straight into the target DB, would like to make a call to a PL/SQL stored procedure which takes the data to be inserted as input (if at all possible, I understand this could be difficult if dealing with multiple records, unless the procedure can be called each time for each record), and then performs some checks before inserting the records.
EDIT: regarding point 2 above, I have just come across this - How to call Oracle Stored Procedure using EDQ.

  • Missing select mode in Browse button and File Dialog.vi

The 'Browse options' button next to a path control does not seem to allow an 'Existing file or existing directory' option. This is also the case for the 'select mode' input of the File Dialog vi. The user buttons in these dialogs auto-adapt to the select mode. I want these buttons to appear as 'Open' for files, and 'Select Directory' for folders. Is this missing select mode an oversight of National Instruments and is there a workaround?

    Hey ,
All you have do is right click on this browse button and go to propertise and select the option of 'Existing file or existing directory' ,this will give you those options in Labview.
    cheers

  • Help with missing files within lightroom

I need help locating the missing files within lightroom. When I click on the question mark to locate the files, it opens up a window and I click locate, and then the files are no longer there. This happens even on files that I have not moved out of lightroom. How can I make all of my files appear as they used to? Thanks so much!

You have to find the photos on your hard disk, somewhere. At this point, Lightroom can't help you because it doesn't know where the photos are. If they haven't been renamed, you can have your operating system search all of your hard disk(s) for a specific photo name. Then, you can reconnect entire folders (or folder hierarchies) via

  • Lightroom 4.4 Metadata Auto Sync switch missing from Sync Button.

    I am using Lightroom 4.4 on a 2013 Macbook Air OS 10.8.4.
I cannot see the Switch enables auto sync on the Metadata sync button. Its currently visible on another machine a MacPro with Lightroom v4.3. I find this useful to be bale quickly enable and disable the syncing of metadata. I'd be grateful if somewhere could tell me if this has been dropped in v4.4 or have I missed a prefs setting somewhere? MAny thanks

It depends on how the "Metadata Menu>Show Metadata for Target Photo Only" option is set. If it's enabled, the buttons are as you show them, with the little switch to the left of the "Sync" button which would enable "Auto Sync" if clicked (but only possible with multiple photos selected).
However, if that option is unchecked, the button changes and becomes like this:
No switch needed in that situation, the button lights up whenever multiple images are selected.

  • Virtual copies are not synchronized in a second Lightroom catalogue although metadata are written in XMP and synchronization with metadata was selected

    Dear community,
I operate one Mac with Lightroom 5.7 that is configured to store all metadata in xmp files. The Lightroom catalogue is stored locally on the Mac and only contains references to the images and their xmp files that are stored on a network device. There is another Mac with the same configuration having a separate local Lightroom catalogue and access to the same images on the network device.
At a starting point, both Lightroom catalogues are identical - they refer to the same images on the network device and contain the same metadata.
When I update image properties on the first Mac, these changes are reflected in the xmp file. After using the option "synchronize" with activated "metadata synchronization" on the second Mac, the modified image properties are visible on the second Mac. This is fine.
However, when I create a virtual copy on the first Mac, I realize that the corresponding xmp file gets updated. However, even after synchronization, the virtual copy is not visible on the second Mac. I may modify image properties of the original image and get these modifications replicated to the second Mac, but the virtual copies remain on the first Mac.
What needs to be done that also virtual copies get synchronized?
Thank you very mich for your support.
    Best regards,
    Peter

I do not doubt that File Export / File Import will work to transfer the virtual copies.
My question was related to the fact whether the imported folder should not previously exist on the second Mac.
    Consider the following situation:
    time = 0:
first Mac: folder A is in a first status
second Mac: folder A is in a first status
    time = 1:
first Mac: folder A is in a second status, export folder A in second status
second Mac: folder A is in a first status, import folder A in second status
My question is: What happens with these two folder A on the second Mac? Does folder A in the Lightroom catalogue of the second Mac gets overwritten? Do I receive an error message because folder A is already present in the Lightroom catalogue?
I understand your answer that everything will be fine on the second Mac if there is no folder A at all at the second Mac while I import the new folder A. Under this assumption, I can import folder A and it will show the second status. Clearly.
My question is only related to the fact that there is already a folder A on the second Mac, with the same images, but with different metadata and/or virtual copies.
