Missing Serial Number and iMessage
Hi guys!
I have an old MacBook Pro 17 and i have no serial due to motherboard change in 2009.
Until now no problem, but i discovered that to use services as iMessage and FaceTime i need a serial in my machine.
How can i solve it?
I really need that features because i'm abroad and i need to comunicate home easily.
someone know how to solve it?

Apple has always been able to do that for everyone else who has posted here. I don't know what to suggest other than try again or try somewhere else.

Bought used laptop, too late to return, missing serial number.
A while back I bought a MBP 17" off a power seller on ebay that buys out of warranty macbooks and repair them independently for resale.
the one i bought is missing its serial number, and i have no way of recovering it. since then i've bought one straight from apple, but i'm still determined to get to the bottom of this.
is there anyway recover a missing serial number from an MBP that has had its logic board replaced (as I was informed by the seller)?
I tried returning it before but they only offered to repair it once it got a kernel panic etc. I denied that offer because I figured I'd never see it or my money again.
Thanks.It's true that I'd want to see a serial number on any Mac that I bought — not because it would do me any good, but because not finding one would suggest that the machine might have been stolen. Of course a machine with a number could have been stolen too, but it wouldn't actively suggest that possibility to me.
Whatever the case may be with respect to that, having a serial number wouldn't win you any benefits that I can think of. As a policy matter, Apple won't repair a Mac that has no serial number. But because you have no Apple warranty, no Apple repair would be free even if you had a number, and an independent service provider's work is usually less expensive than Apple's.
There is a curious fact to note here. When Apple replaces the logic board in a Mac notebook during a repair, the serial number is sometimes (always?) removed from the machine as part of that process. I don't know why. This is sometimes done as part of a warranty repair, and obviously Apple is still obligated to repair that machine, despite its lack of a serial number, if another failure occurs during the warranty period. This suggests to me that Apple must keep some internal record of the machines from which it has removed serial numbers, so it will recognize them if they appear again in the warranty repair stream. But I've never heard of Apple putting any label bearing a new number into such a machine. -
How to create dataset profil to retrieve serial number (and more) of unknown/unsupported devices?

We do have few non Cisco devices we need to keep track also at least using serial number. I saw some HP Procurve devices are able to be collected but we have for instance Riverbed steelhead appliances that are just missing serial number (ie. OS version, Vendor name are properly collected).
I did tried to create a custom dataset and platform definition rule but I'm not sure how to match OID request result with Collector Serial Number field.
The online help didn't help me this why I'm asking to the community. Any idea?
BTW, are we allowed the share custom dataset/platforms definitions on this forum?

Given that the target devices here are Non Cisco devices, We would like to focus on that a little bit. Information about network devices from other vendors may appear in some Smart Net Total Care reports. SNTC gathers only basic information that can be obtained from standard SNMP MIBs from non-Cisco devices. Third party devices are not fully processed and analyzed the way Cisco devices are, and are shown in reports only to account for all the IP addresses the customer asked to be collected. In these reports they are clearly marked as third party.
If the same questions applies to Cisco devices, we will be happy to address that

If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled). Log into icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone section. Then contact the police, giving them any location information you get.
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Notify the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).

I have contact Adobe support, now three different times....and have had no help whatsoever.
While in college, I purchased Adobe CS 5 (education) in 2010. At the time, they required you to contact them in regards to your serial number, which I did. I installed the programs, and all worked quite well. Two months ago, my hard drive crashed and I had to install a new hard drive causing me to reinstall CS. However, I had apparently lost my serial numbers for the programs---yet, I STILL have the original box, my PROOF OF PURCHASE, shipment information, etc. However, Adobe is telling me that because I didn't originally register the products online (I did not have internet access at my apartment) and that they aren't tied to an adobe ID, I can't obtain the serial numbers. This is ridiculous. I have all of the needed documentation to prove that I purchased these programs---I've also been through chat, twice. It doesn't work.
I really don't know what to do anymore, but I'd love some help. I can't afford to purchase these programs again.
AmandaIf you have the discs they would normally come with a serial number on the disc case. Unfortunately, the Adobe support people you were talking to are the only people that have any ability to help when it comes to resolving a missing serial number issue.

Stolen ipod on thursday. i have serial number and all other info
My ipod was 'stolen' this thursday at school. Today is tuesday. Is it not possible to track my ipod's current ip address with the serial number and such? And I did reported the missing ipod to my school. What else can I do? I can report it to the police. But how do I do that? And its rather late so I don't know if anyone will listen now. I'm already a couple of days late in reporting so the chances of me not ever finding my ipod is bigger. I also plan on contacting the Apple media helpline (408)-974-2042 and ipod technical support (800)-275-2273 tomorrow morning. Also, is the same serial number in my receipt engraved into my ipod?
I'll do exactly what you've said. To report it to the police. I will then have them call ipod technical support (800)-275-2273 because apparently if I give them my ipod's serial number AND someone happened to plug it into a computer, they can find it. Serial number and hangling unit
question is : the same number can be assigned into diffrent HU at same time.
our case is allocate Serial Number into the finished products through RF device which was managed by HU.
1 operator will add the barcode on the finished product which from production line, 6 articles will be created into one pallet (HU)
2 RF scan the barcode and create HU
3 RF changed the HU so set up reltionship between Serial Number and HU
just in this process, if there are 12 piece articles, it's also mean 12 serial numbers and 2 HU will be created.
suppose 12 serial numbers are: 1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f
7g 8h 9i 10j 11k 12L
correct result are 1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f ==>HU1
7g 8h 9i 10j 11k 12L ==>HU2
but if scanner do it wrongly the result are permmited like below:
1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f ==>HU1
7g 8h 9i 10j 11k 6f ==>HU2
so my question is why SAP allowed this happened. is there configration missed or this is standard?

Handling units have one identification number that uniquely identifies the handling unit across processes. Using a handling unit in a cross-system logistics chain usually requires an identification number that is unique worldwide
You therefore have the option of assigning a .Serial Shipping Container Code. (SSCC) number to each handling unit.
Have you done any setting to have serial numbers 1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f ==>HU1
7g 8h 9i 10j 11k 12L ==>HU2

Still in the dark over missing serial number for Lightroom
I have tried for the umpteenth time with this and am quickly losing the will to continue. Have any UK based photographers managed to get their missing serial number, or had their URL re-set as I, for one, have not?

i was given a macbook 5.1 by my mom, being nice, she erased everything on it, but then could not find the original start up disc. i called apple and had the serial number and said that leopard 10.5 was the operating system that orginally came with it, so i bought it. when i got it,i turned on computer, put in dvd, and immediately shut it off, then turned it back on while pressing letter c. (they told me to do this) i can hear the disc turning but alls i get is blank screen then it shuts down, and restarts. nothing ever shows up on the screen. did i get a wrong disc? should there be something different than just the mac os x leopard 10.5 to get this computer to work again?? thanks for your help!
It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

Hi. My new computer had Acrobat on it. Suddenly, I was unable to open any PDF's. and then I tried to update and was forwarded to the Adobe site that said I had to buy a monthly subscription. I do not have the physical box with a serial number and was going to buy the one advertised on the website until I discovered it's only for students and teachers, which I am not. What should I do next as I need to use PDFs on a daily basis. Thanks! I would like to be able to download this and pay online. Possible? I currently have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. I have an iphone 4S and have a ringtine app. This app needs me to have a ringtone option in the left hand menu of my itines. I do not have a ringtone option.

My problem started when I want to unlock my iphone 3gs via Imei.
My old iphone broke about a month after i bought it (it was 2 years ago), so i sent it to Movistar to change it (i think that they sent it to appleCare). Now Movistar told me that i have to send the old iphone imei in order to unlock the iphone i have now, i ask apple for the repair order receipt, then i received an email and i could see the information about the 2 iphones: the old broken one and the new one.
Then I realized that the iphone they sent me as a replacement (the new one) is not the same iphone i have. The serial number and the Imei are different, so, should apple change this data in their server in order to unlock my iphone or what can i do to solve it?
There is any formal way to perform this data change?

Francisco MarzabalHere we work with repairs for devices that does not have waranty (expired or other issue). In this case, I did the screen replacement. No other ipad was on my station, the ipad arrives, i took it change the glass, put everithing back, give to customer. Thats it. The job was done by me, the customer test his ipad in front on me, works fine, everything ok. Few days pass and he came back saying that it wasn't his ipad, he brings the box that the ipad came and ask me why the serial number does not match the serial number in the box (sorry NOT in the back of the ipad).
There were no other part changed only glass. After 7 years working on this, thats the first customer complaining about a work done here. After this I was curious and look for more information and some forums, also one port here is claiming that the serial number on the device is not the same as the box where it came.
I just want to make sure that there are possibilities that there could be such mistake during the packaging process.

Why can't I just type in an ipad serial number and find out what model it is? This used to be a function of the Apple Tech Specs. Why has it been removed? If it is in a different place, where is it?
Have you tried here? This will tell you which model of iPad you have when you enter the serial number.

I bought a new computer and downloaded my lightroom 4 to it. When I installed the program it asked for my serial number and I imputed it. Then it asked for my previous serial number from my original lightroom 3 purchase. Since I upgraded to lightroom 4 I don't have the serial number for the version 3. How do I get the serial number from my 3 version so I can activate my version 4 program
If you have Lightroom 3 still installed, you can get it from there.
If you don't and you have your box/disk, it should be on there.
IF you don't have either of those,and you registered your software, you can log into your Adobe account and retrieve it there.
