Missing serial number

Hello: I am a registered user of CS3 and have the full version of PhotoShop at work and, as allowed by license, at home. But I wanted to install an older copy of PhotoShop Elements (1.0.1) that came bundled with one of the several dozen Adobe products I've purchased over the years into a netbook I use on the road. I don't need to do any real work, but it would be nice to do some minor tweaking occasionally and Paint and the other preinstalled "editing" software are putting me over the edge. Even a vintage PE is appealing. Problem is, I can't remember which product it came bundled with so I can't find the serial number required to install it. I do know I have never installed it anywhere before so it should still be a legitimate license. Is there a way I can find the serial number from Adobe?
Thanks

It's not going to help you now, but you should write all of these installation serial numbers into an electronic document - like a Word or Excel document, or a Filemaker Pro database.  Such a reference will help you when you need to re-install an application - or install it onto a new computer.
Over the decades, I've referred to such serial numbers when something went horribly wrong, and I had to re-install an application from the original 8" disks, 5.25" disks, CDs, or DVD.
Since the mid-1980s, I've kept my serial numbers on a Filemaker Pro database.  Looking at that database entry, I can see that I purchased my first version of Photoshop Elements on December 6, 2004.  In that database, I have the serial numbers for versions three, four, five, six, and eight.
A lot of software requires you to log onto a specific web site to register your software purchase, and come up with a user name and password to log in.  I record all of that information - the application web site, the user name I used, and the password I came up with, on that database entry.  I have an entry for this forum as well.
I'm 61.  With luck, I can remember where I ate lunch yesterday.  I'm just not going to remember junk like this years later - so I record it on a database entry.

  • Bought used laptop, too late to return, missing serial number.

A while back I bought a MBP 17" off a power seller on ebay that buys out of warranty macbooks and repair them independently for resale.
the one i bought is missing its serial number, and i have no way of recovering it. since then i've bought one straight from apple, but i'm still determined to get to the bottom of this.
is there anyway recover a missing serial number from an MBP that has had its logic board replaced (as I was informed by the seller)?
I tried returning it before but they only offered to repair it once it got a kernel panic etc. I denied that offer because I figured I'd never see it or my money again.
    Thanks.

It's true that I'd want to see a serial number on any Mac that I bought — not because it would do me any good, but because not finding one would suggest that the machine might have been stolen. Of course a machine with a number could have been stolen too, but it wouldn't actively suggest that possibility to me.
Whatever the case may be with respect to that, having a serial number wouldn't win you any benefits that I can think of. As a policy matter, Apple won't repair a Mac that has no serial number. But because you have no Apple warranty, no Apple repair would be free even if you had a number, and an independent service provider's work is usually less expensive than Apple's.
There is a curious fact to note here. When Apple replaces the logic board in a Mac notebook during a repair, the serial number is sometimes (always?) removed from the machine as part of that process. I don't know why. This is sometimes done as part of a warranty repair, and obviously Apple is still obligated to repair that machine, despite its lack of a serial number, if another failure occurs during the warranty period. This suggests to me that Apple must keep some internal record of the machines from which it has removed serial numbers, so it will recognize them if they appear again in the warranty repair stream. But I've never heard of Apple putting any label bearing a new number into such a machine.

  • Missing serial number, help!

I have contact Adobe support, now three different times....and have had no help whatsoever.
While in college, I purchased Adobe CS 5 (education) in 2010. At the time, they required you to contact them in regards to your serial number, which I did. I installed the programs, and all worked quite well. Two months ago, my hard drive crashed and I had to install a new hard drive causing me to reinstall CS. However, I had apparently lost my serial numbers for the programs---yet, I STILL have the original box, my PROOF OF PURCHASE, shipment information, etc. However, Adobe is telling me that because I didn't originally register the products online (I did not have internet access at my apartment) and that they aren't tied to an adobe ID, I can't obtain the serial numbers. This is ridiculous. I have all of the needed documentation to prove that I purchased these programs---I've also been through chat, twice. It doesn't work.
I  really don't know what to do anymore, but I'd love some help. I can't afford to purchase these programs again.

If you have the discs they would normally come with a serial number on the disc case.  Unfortunately, the Adobe support people you were talking to are the only people that have any ability to help when it comes to resolving a missing serial number issue.

  • Still in the dark over missing serial number for Lightroom

I have tried for the umpteenth time with this and am quickly losing the will to continue. Have any UK based photographers managed to get their missing serial number, or had their URL re-set as I, for one, have not?
The weekend is now upon us, and all I have is a useless short cut to Light Room mocking me from my desktop. The most galling thing is that it was only
after I purchased Raw Shooter Premium 2006 that I learned that I was paying Adobe for a product which was no longer supported. Now here I am, 7 or 8 months on, out of pocket after paying for a redundant piece of software, and unable to use its replacement!
Fed up to say the very least.

What did you buy from where??

  • Missing Serial number from System profiler

I just noticed that I'm missing the serial number from my System Profiler.
The only reason why I noticed is that I was trying to gather information about the macs on the network via remote desktop and I found several that will not allow me to gather information about the system.
They are all the ones missing the serial number from System profiler.
How can I add it back? Also anyone know why it is missing?

The serial number disappears when the motherboard/logic board is switched out, because the serial number is linked to that piece of hardware.
Authorized Apple repair tech are supposed to use some special software to input the S/N onto the logic board. Possibly they can do it for you.

  • Mac Pro Missing Serial Number after SSD install

After installing a new SSD in an unused bay in my Mac Pro (OS 10.8.4) and setting it as my start-up disk with only System, Apps, Library and Users Folders on it, I have had a remarkable improvement in performance - things simply snap open now & I have not seen a spinning beachball/cogwheel until....
Messages will not work now - on opening, the program asks me to enter my Apple ID & Password but will not accept the entries (which I have double-checked & confirmed on my Mac Book Pro, iPad & iPhone) - I get a prolonged spinning cogwheel & then a message that it could not connect and I should check my Network Connections - I did & they are all working fine for other programs.
On line sources indicate that the iMessage Registration process involves the Mac's Serial number.
This no longer appears under the About This Mac Menu item when I click on the Version 10.8.4 line (the Build Number does appear).
This 4 year old Mac Pro has never had the Logic Board replaced.
And iMessages worked great prior to the SSD install.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    ...John

you cloned the system? used Migration or Setup Assistant?
I doubt it has anything to do with the SSD.
But you might include what you did, what make of SSD even, and some brands (but not Samsung) would need firmware update.
You also need to use TRIM Enabler on any and all SSDs (unless you paid dearly and bought an Apple device).
Before you clone, install TRIM Enabler!
And after you clone, run Disk Utility's REPAIR DISK on the SSD -- just to be on the safest side.

try creating a new user account. I doubt it is the SSD, or you, though it could be your OS install or just the common issues with iMessages. Is there not a forum for it? I'd think there would be.

  • Missing serial number for Photoshop CS2 to complete installation.

I just downloaded a free copy of Photoshop CS2 and I now need the serial number to be able to complete the installation. Where can I find it?

I am sorry Louis Roberts but I am not aware of any free versions of Photoshop CS2 being available.  Please see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1195856 which discusses the activation server shut down which affected the Creative Suite 2 software.

  • Archive and Install - Now missing serial number

I have a legit version of Logic Pro through a school -- I was recently teaching a class on it -- but with my recent archive and install its asking for the serial number again and I do not have it available. Shouldn't all this be available in the previous systems folder? If so, how do I go about fixing this? Thanks for your help.

Apparently, you did an archive and install moving backward from Sno to Leo. In this regard, you would have been precluded from preserving user and network settings. [This read may help you with your problem|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2196]. I have never had the need to try the things mentioned in the read.

  • Missing Serial number for colour Finesse

I have a registered version of Adobe after effects CS5 which was a gift but I cannot find the the serial number for Colour Finesse. I use the programme on a windows system.

As Szalam says, it should be on a sticker on the DVD case.
In fact, there will be two Color Finesse stickers. Be sure to use the serial number starting with "CFLEP30".
There is more info on finding your serial number in this Knowledge Base article on our website.

  • Photoshop Element 11 missing serial number

Bought on amazon in Aug 13 (only tried to install it over a month ago (Dec 13) after buying new computer). It is not on the box, or under sticker on the box, or on the CD sleeve. I cannot return it to Amazon as the return window has expired in September. What to do? I have the box, order number etc..
Did the one month trial that is now expired.

I'd be inclined to scan the bill, then contact Adobe at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html#ac tivate-problem and explain what happened. As you're able to provide proof of purchase they may be able to issue you a new serial number.
If that doesn't help then I'd be inclined to investigate your country sale of goods legislation. Most countries don't allow a company to sell goods unfit for purpose and this legislation will take precedence over any guarantee or 'returns windows'. Selling a product that needs a serial number, without one, is not selling goods fit for purpose.

  • Missing Serial Number - System Profiler

I have a G4 Tower (mirror door, dual 1.25GHz) and recently the serial number has stopped being displayed in both the System Profiler and under "About this Mac".
It seems to have disappeared around the latest security update for 10.3.9, and was discovered when debugging a video card issue (card failed; Apple Store replaced it).
Is there a way to either enter it so System Profiler sees it again, or to restore it from some preference or setting?
    Thank you.
    Harry

    Harry,
That symptom indicates your logic board was
    replaced.
Please read Installed latest upgrade and
serial number disappeared for a similar serial
    number mystery.
    ;~)
Interesting article, thank you. As far as I know, and according to all the paperwork, the logic board has not been replaced.
Over the last year, the Power Supply and Video Card have been replaced, but no other components were worked on. (As it turns out, replacing the Power Supply was unnecessary, because the Cinema Display was the problem.)
The Serial Number just stopped being displayed at some point. I only noticed it because I was on the phone with Apple Care getting to the final indications that the video card failed, looking for serial number to validate Apple Care status.
I really can't pinpoint the time, other than it being about the same time as the last 10.3.9 security update. "About this Mac" shows: Version 10.3.9, Build 7W98.
    Curious event. But not serious?
    Thank you,
    Harry

  • Lightroom 5 missing serial number

I just purchased Lightroom 5, student teacher edition from the university book store.  While attempting to install, realized that I have a product code on the back of the CD box but no serial number.  My last purchase was lightroom 2 and the serial number came in the box and was oh so easy.  How do I get my serial number so I can start using the product?

  • Missing serial number after Macbook Pro logic board replacement

I just got my Macbook Pro replaced its motherboard due to the known issue http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, after I got it back I found my serial no. in System Profile becomes "System Serial#". I brought it back to the service center in Hong Kong, they said it's normal after replacement the motherboard.
Would this affect the authorization in iTunes and some apps?
Also I found occasionally I got error log for my internal or external hard drive, I'm not sure if it's affected. (may be I should post this in OS X section) It didn't occur before the replacement.

This happened to my 2006 Macbook when the logic board was replaced under Applecare by my local service centre due to a known issue at the time (random shutdown). It didn't affect the warranty or cause me any problems so I didn't bother to go back to them although I later found out that they could and should have reset it at the time.
The only thing that might have been a problem if I had had more than one computer was that it made my iTunes account think that I had two computers authorized, i.e, a sort of "ghost" left over from the previous serial number. As you can only have five machines authorized with an account it means you have one less available to you even though you don't actually have that computer. This was not a problem to me as I didn't need five authorizations, and anyway you can go into your account once a year and reset your account. You may need to do this if you have five computers you need to play your iTunes purchases on.
Still lazy of the repair centre not to reset the serial number for you though.

  • Missing Serial Number and iMessage

    Hi guys!
I have an old MacBook Pro 17 and i have no serial due to motherboard change in 2009.
Until now no problem, but i discovered that to use services as iMessage and FaceTime i need a serial in my machine.
    How can i solve it?
I really need that features because i'm abroad and i need to comunicate home easily.
someone know how to solve it?
    Thanks.

Apple has always been able to do that for everyone else who has posted here. I don't know what to suggest other than try again or try somewhere else.
