Missing Shockwave Decompression Xtra

Hi guys,
first of all sorry for my bad english!
Yesterday I've got for first time this error message in all my browser (IE, FF and Chrome).
The first popup is a title only with a blank window; the title is the same of this topic.
The second popup has as title "Shockwave" and this for message: "Error playing Director movie".
I've tried to update and install many time Flash and Shockwave (full install) but the problem persist.
What can I do?

ps: I'm trying to open a "web based like" Spanish course from a CD rom.

I also thought that the course is based on an older version.
It is possible to do the downgrade?
But there are some sites that doesn't run shockwave and appears the same error.

Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA Macintosh

We had this error in our computer labs and found that only a
very few computers could successfully run the decompressor and none
others could.
On the working computers, we found that the Shockwave
installer copies the necessary XTRA files into
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Shockwave Player
11/Xtras/download where they are available only to the user account
that installed the plugin.
Copied the download folder to /Library/Application
Support/Adobe/Shockwave Player 11/Xtras/download and changed
ownership and permissions to match the other items in this folder.
Now any user of the computer can successfully run sites that
require the XTRAS.
Adobe: place these files at the system level, not the user
level.

I just tested it and it appears that the SWA Xtra is no longer part of the standard Shockwave 10 download (note that backwards compatibility is available only on the PC).
The problem is easily solved by adding the Xtra to your Movie Xtras. Do this:
Go to Modify --> Movie --> Xtras...
Click Add...
Select swadcmpr.x32 from the list
Click OK
Make sure Download if Needed is checked (uncheck and then recheck to make sure the Xtra is available)
Click OK
Publish your Movie
You may want to uninstall Shockwave and then let it auto-install to be absolutely certain that all required Xtras download correctly.

How do I get past this error message: Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA?

I've already uninstalled it and reinstalled the full version, but still get this message. Afterwards, it errors with: Error Playing Director movie. Help.

Follow these steps:
1.coldfusion installation fails with apache-ssl version.
Because that install first a none ssl version like :
httpd-2.2.21-win32-x86-no_
ssl
(use installation folderC:\Apache2)
2.install coldfusion cf8/9
3.install coldfusion update 8.01/9.01
4.download httpd-2.2.21-win32-x86-ssl
5.stop coldfusion - apache services
6.Rename the first "apache2" folder to "Apache2_"
7.Create a new Apache2 folder and extract there httpd-2.2.21-win32-x86-ssl
8.Copy htdocs folder From "Apache2_" to Apache2 folder (replace existing one)
9.Add following lines to the bottom of your new httpd file in conf folder:

Is the SWA Decompression Xtra still available? If so, where can I find it?

I recently installed an older program on my computer, and it says I need the SWA Decompression Xtra to open it. I tried to find it on macromedia.com, where it told me to, but that just redirected here, and I couldn't find it anyway. Is it still available anywhere?

Shockwave 3D Xtra failed to initialize

Hi,
I was wondering if you guys have experienced anything like
this with shockwave 11. Ive been testing my 3d shockwave app on
various machines, and for some reason one of the machines(the
oldest) gets
"This application requires an Xtra(shockwave 3D) that either
does not exist or failed to initialize properly....etc"
It only happens with Shockwave 11 applications(not shockwave
10), it might be something wrong with that specific machine, im
just enquiring here as well as investigating that avenue.
The machine has an old nVidia "GeForce2 GTS/ GeForce 2 PRO"
graphics card, ive updated the drivers, to nVidia drivers vers
7.1.8.9. Also, ive checked the Shockwave 3D Xtra is installed on
the machine. and done a clean wipe of shockwave and a reinstall of
it.
Anyone experienced anything similiar?

Be sure that machine has an internet connection (maybe the SW
player is trying to download an older Xtra to ensure the backward
compatibility)

Im trying to use rosetta stone online with shockwave player but i keep getting two error messages, the first one i get is, "this application requires an xtra (FLT ear) that either does not exist or failed to load properly. Please make sure the appropriate xtras are in the xtras folder." then when i hit ok the movie player begins to load then the second error message pops up and says, " This shockwave movie has errors that have caused play back problems please contact the author of this content regarding problem, shockwave unable to continue." I have tried uninstalling the slim and full versions of both version 10, and 11 i have no idea what else to do. Im using a new macbook with mac os x version 10.6.3 thanks for any help you can give.

I figured out on my end that it was our Web Filter software blocking rosettastone.com. After adding this to our unblocked list it installed required components and ran successfully right away.

Missing 'shockwave flash object' in powerpoint

Hi,
I've read hundrews of tutorials on how to add a file into a powerpoint 2007 presentation. For some reason though, I don't have the option of 'shockwave flash object' in the menu.
I am running windows 7 new as of 2 days ago and a copy of office I downloaded from microsoft 2 days ago. I have re-installed both Flash Player and Office - both with no succession. Is there any way I can fix this?
I've tried searching for the .ocx file - but have no idea what it could be called and found nothing that looked remotely related.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do? The project is due tomorrow at 9am - and I've been working on this one bit for all of today without getting any closer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have installed PowerPoint 2010 beta release on my machine. I was able to attach a SWF file to the presentation successfully. All options to insert a video are located on the Insert tab, in the Media group. Please refer to the link below on how to insert a flash movie to the presentation.

Missing Shockwave Distribution Page

I went to download the Shockwave Player version after following the distribution instructions/application and the page is no longer available.

Need the Shockwave 10.4 Xtras

I have to get some custom Shockwave applications up and running for some clients.
The applications require all of the Shockwave 10.4 / 10.1 Xtras.
They fail to install. When looking at the autodownload.txt file (in c:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\Xtras\), it appears that all of the download links come up as 404 not found:

When the autodownload is finished, appeare a message that suggests to find: ""C:\Programmi\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe " -osint". I think of a typing error on Adobe.
If I try to open my lesson, there appeare : " Missing shockwave decompression xtra"

Difficulty downloading latest Shockwave Player

I recently had to reinstall my hard drive and, thus, installed the latest version of Shockwave Player. The installation seemed to proceed normally; however, when I attempt to access a site that uses Shockwave, I get the following error message:
Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA
When I click OK, I get the error message:
Error playing Director movie.
I'm running Windows XP, with IE 8.0. I have attempted to uninstall Shockwave, but can't find it anywhere on my add/delete programs menu. All my other Adobe programs are there, just not Shockwave. I have attempted to reinstall Shockwave, and after clicking on "agree and install", it goes directly to "in order to install Shockwave, you must restart computer". Upon restarting, I'm back at square one: same error messages and no way to fix it.

Thanks! I tried your suggested download and ran into the following two errors:
1 - Error opening file for writing: C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Director\SwDir.dll
In the interest of checking to see if it would do without that, I chose "Ignore" instead of "Abort" and then ran into a second problem:
2 - Error opening file for writing: C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Shockwave11\SwHelper_1159620.exe
Knowing it would probably not work, I chose "Ignore" again.
I'm still getting the same error messages as originally.

Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for WinXP and Vista, IE7, IE8, Firefox, ect.(New Fast Fix)

(or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.

I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.

Installion missing components on Intel iMac

Although the Shockwave installation prompt says the "Software
successfully installed," when I access my favorite puzzle site, I
get popups saying "Missing Shockave Decompression XTRA," followed
by "Shockwave Error: Error playing Director movie."
I have a new Intel-based iMac and feel that I'm caught
between a rock and a hard place.
I am concerned that no one from Adobe seems interested in
answering the questions posted since many of them have languished
without replies. They certainlly will not answer Shockwave
quesitons over the phone. If anyone out there has suggestions, I
will appreciate receiving them.

???? i'll type this again. i HAVE installed the print drivers on the LEOPARD machine . SO i have the correct printer selected in prefs and I can print BUT i have NO options for choosing printer management, paper, print options, color management etc.

Shockwave Slim Install doesn't download SWA Streaming Xtra

Hi all, I'm having a frustrating time trying to fix this
problem, hope someone can help. I have a Director project (MX 2004,
10.1.1) that ends up as a Shockwave movie on a website. It makes
heavy use of Shockwave Streaming Audio and is therefore
dependent on the SWA xtras (namely: "SWA Decompression PPC Xtra"
and "SWA Streaming PPC Xtra" and their efficiently named Windows
alternatives) that have been removed from the default Shockwave
installer (the "Slim Install"; re:

I've been getting lots of reports of "Xtra not found..." errors
lately, mainly from people installing SW for the first time, and
are thusly installing the new "slim install" version.
Now, supposedly this shouldn't be a problem, as the movie has
the "Download if needed" option checked in the
Modify->Movie->Xtras dialog and for a while I thought it may
have been an errant thing or a PEBKAC but after reading the above
referenced tech note I've been able to reproduce the error by
uninstalling SW (I had a full install, so I already had the xtras
on my system) and reinstalling via the "slim installer." The movie
loads, the status bar says "Downloading Xtras..." or some such and
then looks to be working fine until a streaming audio file is
loaded at which point the "Xtra not found" error pops up and then
the movie bails from errors.
So I look in my Shockwave plugin's Xtras folder (on OS x:
~/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Shockwave
10/Xtras/Download/MacromediaInc/SWA - phew!) and there I find...
The decompression Xtra but the streaming xtra is nowhere to be
found. Nothing I've tried has worked to get it to correctly
download the "SWA Streaming PPC Xtra" automagically.
I realize that
from now on I can direct people to install the full version
if they haven't before installed any version, but if they've
already installed the "slim install" and it won't download these
Xtras it means they have to call and I have to tell them they need
to install the full version... This, of course, means telling them
to
uninstall Shockwave and then
reinstall with the full version to which they all smile and
respond, "Oh, ok, cool! That sounds like fun." :-[ That's a less
than ideal solution, in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a way to
get it to download these Xtras correctly.
So I looked in the "Activity" window in Safari while the page
with the movie loads and, sure enough, one of the resources it
requests is the SWA.carb file located here:

and it downloads it without error or fail, but only one of the
accompanying Xtras is actually downloaded and installed in the
user's Xtras folder.
In the tech note about the slim installer, it mentions this:

...the 10.1 version of the Shockwave Player now includes its
own copy of all Macromedia Xtra package download URLs. Therefore, a
given Macromedia Xtra only needs to appear in the movie's Xtra list
in order to participate in the auto-download feature of the player.
Which sounds like it
should download the 2 Xtras whether "download if needed" is
checked or not (it
is), but it doesn't download the streaming xtra.
Is it possible the download URLs in the Shockwave Player are
incorrect?
Has anyone else had this problem and/or have any suggestions?

Hi, I don't know very much about computers, so this may be
all junk but I was successful today in downloading a version of
Flash Player 9. I had tried everything but at Flash Player Support,
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer,
way down the page on the right side I saw "Flash Player Downloads:
Flash Player; Additional Downloads; Archived Major Versions of
Flash Player; Other Players." I decided that since I have older
equipment and software maybe my machine could not handle Flash
Player 9 and I would try downloading an older version. After
selecting Archived Major Versions of Flash Player, I was surprised
to see Version 9. I download the zipped file to my computer and
then used "Run" to unzip and install. So far so good. I have all
the functions I need and everything is working great. The download
page warned "You can download these players from the Adobe website.
They are available specifically for Flash developers who are
examining their sites from the perspective of users with earlier
versions of Flash Player. Adobe has made these archived players
available for download at the request of the Flash developer
community. Adobe Technical Support does not provide support for the
installation or use of these old players" I have no idea what that
means and maybe the whole thing turns into pumpkins at midnight.
But I have Flash Player 9 for now. If this is all nonsense, please
be kind when you tell why this will not work. Hope it helps and
