Missing small OSX window that shows progress of loading OSX when booting

I recently reinstalled Leopard using Erase & Install...
Now when I boot into Leopard...the grey windows appear with the chasing arrows..
the screens turn the Apple blue...this is when the small white OSX window should appear..the one using a progress bar to indicate what services are loading..
I see no progress window now...my machine doesn't hang...and it does launch the desktop.
I seem to remember my first installation of Leopard having this window appear before my desktop shows....as in Tiger.
Has anyone experienced this phenomenon?
I would like to have the machine operating 100%...so any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Chuck

Yes. I, too, have noticed the lack of this window. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Not having the window doesn't mean anything is broken. Leopard boots and runs very fast. Much faster than Tiger.
This could be related to Apple's transition from SystemStarter to launchd. The idea is that instead of launching a bunch of system services at startup, in case anyone needs them, launchd will start the requested services only as they are needed, thus saving startup time and memory.
I believe you are correct. Leopard boots very fast. That other screen was a kind of "um" screen while things happened in the background.
Likewise, Leopard shuts down almost instantly, from desktop to off.
I suspect that those other screens are there and will occasionally show up when the OS does a forced journal on boot or some new SW is installed that requires a reboot.
It's a good thing.

  • The video tutorial window that shows when photoshop is launched is TOO SMALL. Can it be maximized??

The "Welcome" window that opens when PS CC 2014 is launched show the option to playa specific  vidieo tutorials. However, that window in not adjustable and is frequently too small to see exactly what the person is actually doing. Can the video be enlarged?
There are other secondary videos that can be watched in that same window. These other videos are really quite tiny, actually. I can't see at all what the person is doing. I think it would be nice to be able to enlarge the videos presented within the Welcome window that opens with PS CC 2014. Is anyone else having this problem??
    Thanks,
    Chick

I am aware of the above links; they do  not appear to contain the same, most recent videos containing the most recent updates that open in Photoshop  when Photoshop is updated, however.
I think having these videos discussing the most recent updates immediately available in Photoshop is more timely and convenient. but again, I wonder why the video window is so small. Why was that considered good form and even helpful?
    Thank you.

  • When I open Nightly all I get is a small black window that says close firefox

I have Nightly installed on a laptop using Windows 7. I have been using it for nearly a year. This afternoon, when I tried to open Nightly, all I got was a small black window saying "close firefox." I used Chrome to get on the web, downloaded the most recent version of Nightly and tried to open it. Same thing happened. How do I get Nightly back?

Any particular reason that you use the ''(sometimes unstable)'' Nightly version, rather than a stable Release version of Firefox?
Nightly isn't intended to be "used", but rather for users to help the Mozilla developers by "testing" each new build and then reporting any Bugs or 'glitches' they may find. Nightly is between 12 and 18 weeks from the release of a new version of Firefox - the Alpha 1 stage which is 6 weeks in duration.

  • How to construct a window that shows images in a continuous rotation on a webpage using flash

Would like to know how to create a window in a web page that shows images in a continuous rotation

There are dozens of ways to accomplish this. What sort of experience with Flash do you have? A very simple method is to just place each image on the timeline. Set a frame rate for the movie, and then extend each image's extent on the timeline to allow it to be shown for the duration that you want. For instance, with the frame rate set to 15 fps, to show each image for 1 second, you would have each image occupy 15 frames. Add or subtract frames to suit your needs. You can add transitions between each image if you like.

Same here: missing thumbnails in Safari OS5 on iPad.
It does not work for me: Massive Tab clutter on top with webpage titles that are hard to remember and recognize. I dream about getting thumbnails back in iOS5.0.2.
Try iCab Mobile. It had both tabs (for those of us who are deeply frustrated by thumbnails) and thumbnails. It also has all sorts of other great features.

  • When I open FirefoxI get a dropdown small sync window that is blank and freezes firefox.

Firefox opens ok, but rapidly has a drop down, small, top-centered window that says "Sync", but quickly goes blank and shortens right at the top of the wind. When this happens, it freezes Firefox and the only way out is to quit Firefox. I just upgraded Firefox to the latest version on a Mac OS 10.9.3 from an older version.

Type '''about:addons'''<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager.
    Hot key; '''<Control>''(Mac:<Command>)''<Shift> A)'''
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select '''Extensions.'''
Disable a few add-ons, then '''Restart Firefox.'''
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until
the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue.
Re-enable the last group '''ONE AT A TIME''' (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the
others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

  • How to remove a small black window that appears on the upper right corner of my iMac and covers everything behind it every time I open iPhoto?

Every time I open iPhoto on my iMac a small black window appears in the upper right of my desk top and covers everything behind it, including iPhoto. The window says "Blocked Plug-In". I cannot move it, delete it, force quit it, etc. I have quit iPhoto, but the black window remains. I have restarted and shut down the computer, but when I open iPhoto the black window comes back. I have right and left clicked on the black window, but I cannot get rid of it. How do I stop the black window from appearing on my screen?

    No problem

  • My I Pod is frozen on a window that shows a usb connecting to I tunes I have tried to reset to no avail

What do I do to eliminate a frozen screen that shows a usb connecting to I tunes, I have tried to reset to no avail.

It sounds like your iPod is in recovery mode. Have you connected it to your computer? Usually when this happens it indicates that the iPod needs to be restored.
If you have tried restoring the iPod and that hasn't worked you might also try putting the iPod into DFU mode and try to restore it. This would replace both the software and firmware on your iPod instead of a regular restore just replacing the software and modifying the firmware as needed.
To put the iPod into DFU mode:
    1. Make sure the iPod is connected to the computer
    2. Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 8 seconds
    3. Let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding down the home button
    4. If you are successful, a dialog box will pop up in iTunes stating that iTunes has detected an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode.
    5. Click OK, then click the restore button in iTunes.
Hopefully after that, the iPod will be up and running so you can sync your content back.

  • Flash Video doesn't show progress or load bar

I need to show a progress download bar and loading stripes
when stalling/loading (eg like youtube and millions of other online
video) otherwise the user thinks the video isn't loading or
    playing.
    I've tried two things:
    1. Creating the flv using Flash Video Encoder results in a
40MB flv. I then insert the flv into my page in dreamweaver. The dw
tools pop up and I choose progressive download and my skin etc. The
resulting page plays the video fine but there's no progress bar or
loading stripes when the video is loading/stalling.
    2. Inserting the video into a flash file and creating a swf
which is then inserted into the html page - as per the instructions
    by media247 on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=189&threadid =1332318
    - no luck doing that either, it shows the player controls with a
blank video screen until the video is buffered, then plays the
video and it stalls/loads with no stripes or load progress
indicator bar. (Same as above, really, but with a different skin
    selection)
I've tried heaps of different skins and settings in the
encoder and flash importer thing but it just doesn't work - I've
had this same problem before and searched the net without joy. Can
someone tell me what might be wrong? Is there a simple setting in
    the importer somewhere??

  • How do I open with one click all the windows that I have been minimized? When I right click on the lower bar Firefox icon, I only see the option to close all windows.

It is used to be that I could right click on the Firefox icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and I would then be given the option to open all windows. Now I only see the option to close all windows. The ability to open all windows is very useful. Have you eliminated this capability? It was a very helpful feature because I often have more than 15 windows minimized at one time. On a regular basis I like to open them all and keep only the ones that I still need. I know that it is possible to see the name of each window that is minimized by moving my cursor over the Firefox icon, but this does not provide enough information. So I have to open each window one at a time to look at it and then decide to close it or keep it - this is a frustrating, time-consuming process. Is there another way to open all the minimized windows at the same time, instead of one at a time?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
    * Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    * Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.

I loaded 4 but it kept crashing so I deleted it and went back to the older version. Then I kept getting the message that my computer was at risk and not protected because I needed the latest version. So I reloaded 4 but still get the message that it isn't loaded. So I try again to load it but get the message it already exists.

    * In Firefox 3.6 versions on Windows and Firefox 4 on Windows and Linux it's possible to hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu of a toolbar.
    * Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).
