Missing Solaris MDBexec after install/reboot

I installed Solaris 10 on a system with the DVD (iso checksummed ok). After install when I reboot the system I get the message "Missing Solaris MDBexec" and the computer hangs. What is happening?
System has 256MB memory, Memorex DVD drive, 10GB hard drive and Intel Celeron MMX 500MHz processor.

Thanks for the info. I had to install using option 4
and delete all the partitions including the boot
partition to get it to go in correctly. That is, you had the system installed with a separate boot partition
when the HDD complained about the "missing Solaris MDBexec"?
Does it work now, after removing all partitions and installing from
scratch, without the separate boot partition?

Missing file system after installing in SSD MacBook
Hi All
I recently installed a SSD drive in my Macbook, I used the Disk Utility to clone the old HDD.
When i reboot the machine with the new disk I get the image of a folder with question mark.
If i reboot the machine again and hold the alt key at the chime I can see two disks.
One called SSD and another called Recovery.
if i choose the SSD the OS starts as normal and if i choose the recovery option and check the disk with disk utility
it tells me that everything is fine.
Any ideas how i can make the machine boot as it should without having to hold down the alt key a start up??

Hi i tried this and just got the big symbol of doom at start up.
However, a little terminal witchcraft did the trick!

• PowerBook G4 hangs after install/reboot with Combo Mac OS X 10.5.8 update

I've got a Titanium PowerBook G4 1GHz. It had Mac OS X 10.5.4 installed.
Then I went to Software Update and it downloaded the Combo software 10.5.4 and after it rebooted, it is stuck at "Installing 2 items, Configuring installation."
You can see the progress bar pulsating but it's stuck and I dont hear any hard drive activity. I had to hard power down and got back in and did Software Update again and after it rebooted, same issue.
Whats up with that?

Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• Programs missing from menu after install?

Hey guys just got my install up and running, using Cinnamon desktop.
So, after installing a program via pacman it wont populate in my menu until I reboot. For instance chrome, I can launch it from the terminal but can find it when I search for it under applications, once I reboot its right where it should be.
any ideas, I like to not reboot every time I install a package.

I don't use Cinammon so I can't test it, but maybe you can just log out and log back in?  I know it isn't a solution but it should be quicker than rebooting.

• BeatsAudio missing/replaced after Installing Windows 8.1

Hi,
When I bought my laptop (HP Pavilion 15-p044tu) it had Windows 7 installed. Also, BeatsAudio controler installed.  Then I installed Windows 8.1 64bit (clean install, not upgrade from 7) and it required a full format of my HDD. So all the drives got erased including the one which had Driver & OS Backup stored.
After Installing win8.1, I went to HP support page for my laptop and manually downloaded the drivers (Including Audio drivers) from there. Please note that, some of the drivers were installed automatically by windows and there is no "unkown device" showing in my device manager's "other devices" tree.
The problem I'm facing is that there is no BeatsAudio interface anywhere. It's been replaced by "Realtek HD audio". Even in the control panel where there was a Beats Icon, there is a realtek icon now. I've searched other forums where they've suggested installing IDT audio driver which will bring back Beats but there is no such driver on my laptop driver page. I've tried the windows 7 drivers but got no positive result. Also I've tried installing IDT drivers from different laptop models from different windows version but it says, "Hardware detected is not supported by this IDT Audio Driver" & stops installation process.
I've also tried installing it in safe mode, but got same result. Note that my audio is working as normal with realtek, but the soun is lower than before. I just need the beats audio back.
Please help me out with this issue. I've searched your forum but didn't get any solution (just different IDT drivers which resulted the same thing).
Waiting for a reply.
Thanks.

Hi,
The beats audio interface is provided by the audio software installer - this can be IDT or Realtek depending on the hardware.
Try the following.
Download the Realtek Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66107.exe
When done, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66094.exe
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Let Windows fully load - it may automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek Audio installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let Windows fully load for a couple of minutes before trying to launch the Beats interface from Windows control panel.

• Error after install reboot: Now I cannot continue Installation

So I'm working with a new MBPro which was running Leopard.
I put the disk in, it started to install, rebooted, installed for another 10 minutes and then I got an error and had to restart.
I was brought to the Welcome, Select a Language dialogue box (cringe).
Now I am stuck at a screen where it tells me to continue installing, I tell it to and I get a, cannot install error.
I'm stuck! I've tried repairing the volume in Disk Util, no luck.
In terminal I can still access my root in /Volumes/Mac HD/Users...

Restore the bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup you made of the original installation and try again. Alternatively, since it's new, use the restore disks that shipped with the machine and restore those, make a bootable backup/clone onto an ext FireWire HD, and try again.

• Missing tiger features after install

hello
for christmas i bought my wife a power mac g5 2.3 ghz & bought my gilrs an imac g5. both came with tigger.
i inherited my wifes old g4 mdd and went out and bought a family pack tigger 10.4.3. i wiped the g4 and installed tigger. unfortunately i found out i could not my account onto the mdd from my old g4 400 mhz with agp due to firmware issues. so, i did everything mannually.
anyway, im noiticing there are features on my wifes and girls copy of tigger that seem to be missing on mine. such as:
-when i move files in and out of folders, no neato sound. i checked sound in prefs, they have 3 options, mine has 2.
-no ripply effect with widgets
- i have to wait a real long time before i can highlighti text under a folder or icon, if i do it to quick (or slow!), the folder or file will open, irritating.
are there some major subtle diffs between factory installed tigger and retail version? or did i miss sometyhing on the install?
thanks
wayne

Hello Nut Case:
This knowledge base article explains why you do not get the ripple effect:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301347
The effect is hardware based - no setting required.
The other differences are, I suspect, a function of the platform rather than your install.

Below are my questions which are still not clear to me. We are using only SAN Pillar Storage for DB servers and Local Hard disks for all Application servers. So said this App Servers cant access SAN storage all they have is local hard disk for each app server.
1. For Essbase Server can i use SAN shared file system from pillar storage for ARBORPATH only for Active-Passive setup.
2. For Applications can i use the local hard disk space as shared between two systems for HA (Active-Active).

• Missing HD space after install

Today I did archive install on my Imac to see if would fix a problem which it has, but now I'm missing space. I started with 118.78GB and now after the install and updates i have 115.68GB. Does anyone know what could account for the missing harddrive space. I have deleted the old previous system folder already and the updates I download I had on the previous system
Fox

Yea, i did trash the old sys...so i'm not sure what is going on but oh well not like I lost a lot of space its only 3gb being used for something which could have been stuff i previously deleted so I'm not overly worried.

• Get your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible after install. Profile.ini isnt installed at all. Forums no help.

I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my windows XP Pro 32 bit box 3 times and uninstalled 3 times to fix the message that the Profile is missing and your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I am admin on the box and I can install the download and remove it all day long but I can't get the profile.ini to be created. I've looked at all the forums and they don't address the missing profile at all or that it never gets created. I really need this to work as IE won't work for me.

If there was anyway to import the profile.ini I would.
You could manually create the folders and the ''profiles.ini'' file, but without solving the underlying problem, you're likely just run into some other issue instead. If you insist on going about it this way, this is what you'd do:
<br>1. Click the '''Start''' button on the taskbar and choose '''Run'''.
<br>2. In the box that opens, type ''%AppData%'' and press Enter.
<br>3. In the folder that opens, create a new folder called ''Mozilla''
<br>4. Open the Mozilla folder and inside it create a new folder called ''Firefox''
<br>5. Start Notepad, paste the following as its contents, then save the file as ''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini''
<pre><nowiki>[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/2dzy4k7u.default
Default=1</nowiki></pre>
6. Inside the Firefox folder, create a new folder called ''Profiles''
<br>7. Inside the Profiles folder, create a new folder called ''2dzy4k7u.default''
<br><br>
When launching Firefox, it will then attempt to populate the blank profile folder with data files (bookmarks, history, cookies, and so on). If you still have the permissions issue, I expect it will fail to do so.
