Missing songs and photos in iMovie '11

For some reason my iTunes and iPhoto libraries don't show up in iMovie anymore. The area where one can access songs or photos is empty - seems like the link is broken between the iLife apps.
I have searched the web and followed others' suggestions, but no luck.
I have deleted all sort of preferences in my user account as well as on the hard disk.
I have created another admin account - same problem there - doesn't see the one iTunes song I downloaded.
I have reinstalled all iLife apps and updated them - no go. Same issue (even when in iMovie version 8 (when I update I use version 9).
I have made sur eonly 1 iMovie app is present (deleted version 8)
I have iLife '11 running in Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
Any ideas?

Thanks Geoff.
The problem I'm having is not with items missing in the Event or Project library, but when trying to add music (or photos) - see screenshot. The window where one is supposed to place a piece of music from one's iTunes library (or iPhoto library) is empty.
My iTunes library holds many songs and is in my correct user folder.
I repaired permissions. Also no go.
Of course I can manually place songs in an iMovie project, but it was so much nicer within iMovie.

I don't see an issue, but if you mean why didn't you get most of your memory back you need to see what else is using storage. Go to Settings/General/Usage. Wait a bit for it to calculate storage allocation, then when it finishes you can see how much storage each app uses.

  • I have a huge amount of my memory used by 'other' than photos and music - to my knowledge, there is nothing there apart from a few songs and photos and 5 podcasts. What could it be? How could I get rid of this 'other' stuff and get the memory back?

When I try to connect my iPod Nano 4th gen to my laptop I get a message that my device may be corrupted and asks do I want to format the disc.  However, I have hundreds of songs and photos that I don't want to lose. What can I do?

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • Can I load songs and photos into an Ipod Nano I have purchased as a gift?

I have purchased an Ipod Nano 2GB as a gift for my 9 year old granddaughter for Xmas.
Before sending it I'd like to load some songs & photos on it, from my own Ipod Library and computer.
I'm concerned that doing this from my computer will only complicate things when they receive the Ipod and then install it on their own computer. The family is not real computer literate and the simpler the better.
What advice does anyone have - best to leave the new Ipod untouched and empty and have the initial install with Itunes/Apple on the computer they will be using? (Windows XP as well)
    Thanks very much!

Personally I think it would be best to leave it. To use an iPod on multiple computers it has to be set to manual update. If your granddaughter wanted to update her iPod automatically (which is the simplest way) whatever you put on would get erased as the songs and pictures wouldn't be on her computer. Why not send along an iTunes gift certificate with it so she can buy some songs she'd like? Also, point the family to this web page, there's lots of useful information for new users here: iPod Nano Fast Start: New User's Guide to iPod Nano

  • Two issues - Missing songs and retrieving music from another computer

HELP! I used to have a PC that I used for managing my Itunes and photos. Well, a few days ago, that computer went to computer heaven and won't even turn on. So, my husband had a MAC laptop sitting around so I decided to re-import all of my CD's into Itunes on that MAC. I know I can get my purchased music into Itunes on the MAC, BUT, what if some of my purchases were not checked during my last sync, and therefore are not on my IPOD? Are they gone? Surely not! At least I hope not.
#2, Has anyone ever seen the issue where you import a CD, go to your list of music, and only a handful of the songs from that CD are there? I'm having that issue as well.
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • How Can I Transfer my songs and photo album back to my itunes?

My hard drive on my laptop went out and all my files were deleted. Most of my music and photos that I have left are on my Ipod What should I do to import my files back yo itunes?

there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only

  • Missing songs and Playlists: how to restore from Time Machine

Here's my story. I synced my iPod a week ago before vacation (and this was backed up with Time Machine). When I returned and launched iTunes, I found that all my playlists and podcasts had disappeared. I also noticed that on my iPod I had ~4500 songs; iTunes has only 4100, so I'm missing about 400 songs.
If I open up Time Machine and restore my my whole iTunes folder (in User>Music) will that, theoretically, restore all my songs?
If I've added new Music to iTunes (that wasn't in the TM backup), will those songs be over-written by the week-old backup?
It's too tedious (and not at all obvious) which songs are missing, so hoping Time Machine can come to my rescue.
    Thanks!

    yes.

    yes, they will.

You can do the following. in "view options" in iTunes add a column "date added". sort by that column and back up all the songs added since the time of the last backup. quit itunes and restore the old library and the old itunes preference file. start itunes and import the songs you've backed up.
    Thanks!

  • Missing contacts and photo on n96

Hello all  I have noticed today that some of my contacts have gone missing and nearly all of my photo's are showing as corrupt. I haven't installed anything recently that I am aware of I haven't updated FW as I am on the latest but yet this has really confused me. Does anyone have any ideas what may of happened, And would there be any way of getting the photos back as I am not sure if I have backed these up and do not have access to the PC suit at the moment

  • Missing songs and transfer issues

I know i'm not alone asking about why songs are mysteriously missing and most can be tracked down manually. Why does this keep happening? Its getting worse every time Apple releases an update. Does anyone have any suggestions on why or how to fix this irritating matter???
Now that i'm over the rant, heres my main concern. I have quite a few songs that will not transfer from itunes to ipod. I recently bought a new 120g Classic to replace my failed wheel 4th gen Nano. I 'm attempting to transfer the library and it seems like everything I have ripped from CD's using itunes has at least one, if not two songs from every CD that will not transfer.
These are the errors I get when the files refuse to transfer.
"Attempting to copy to the disc " " failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
"iTunes could not copy " " to the iPod " " Because the file could not be read or written to. "
None of the songs that I have purchased from iTunes or emusic or other sites give me this error, only files that were ripped from CD's. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I really hate saying this but itunes seems more like a Microslop program than an Apple program. Every version gets buggier and buggier all the time with no fixes, just another crappy version that makes the previous one be better.
I haven't had much success in finding what it is that itunes looks for when it rejects the said file. I thought maybe it would be silence or scratchy sounds but it seems to be rather vague. Only thing I have found to do is create a "reburn" playlist, burn the list to disc, delete files and re-import. Or simply redo the disc import.

  • I have software problms, I want to restore my iphone, but I will lose all my songs.  How can I preserve my songs and photos before i restore

I cant seem to import the present songs, photos etc on my phone so that I can restore.  I have software problems.  Why can't I transfer my photos to my new mac computer?

" Why can't I transfer my photos to my new mac computer?"
What photos?  You can import camera roll photos ( taken with the iphone) as you would any other digital camera.
Photo library pics are synced one way only.  As they came from your computer in the first place, they should still be there and included in your regular backup of your computer.  Copy them from the old computer to the new one.
The music sync is one way as well.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.

  • How do i transfer songs and photos from an ipod to an iphone5

If anyone can help me that would be great in having a really hard time!

For music, you sync them to your phone from iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12313).  For camera roll photos, you can import them to your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), put them in a folder, then sync them to your phone by selecting the folder on the photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  Or, you can use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer them to your phone.
