Missing songs in playlists

My iTunes shows 2400 items. My iPod shows 2100 songs. I think that would mean that there are 300 songs that are not in the lPod. Is there any way, short of checking each and every song manually, to find out which songs are not assigned to a playlist?

  • Missing songs from playlists after moving to a new mac

Bought a new imac 5k. On my old Mac (Pro) I saved the library.xml file in order to save all my playlists (about 70), rather than save each individual playlist file (which would have taken too long.)
Moved the library.xml file to my imac, "added to playlist", and it brought over all my old playlists. Cool, right?
Nope. Many of them are missing songs now. I wrote down how many songs wee in each playlist on the Mac Pro before cleaning it out, and the same new playlist on my imac has a wrong/smaller song count.
Now, I have to try and figure out which ones I'm missing? Ugh. Why didn't ALL of the the sings on each playlist transfer over? Any idea how to fix this? Running Yosemite 10.10.1.

You can't install Adobe applications by copying from a backup.
Start by cleaning out all the CS apps using Adobe Cleaner Tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then download a new installer from here:

  • Missing songs and Playlists: how to restore from Time Machine

Here's my story. I synced my iPod a week ago before vacation (and this was backed up with Time Machine). When I returned and launched iTunes, I found that all my playlists and podcasts had disappeared. I also noticed that on my iPod I had ~4500 songs; iTunes has only 4100, so I'm missing about 400 songs.
If I open up Time Machine and restore my my whole iTunes folder (in User>Music) will that, theoretically, restore all my songs?
If I've added new Music to iTunes (that wasn't in the TM backup), will those songs be over-written by the week-old backup?
It's too tedious (and not at all obvious) which songs are missing, so hoping Time Machine can come to my rescue.
    Thanks!

You can do the following. in "view options" in iTunes add a column "date added". sort by that column and back up all the songs added since the time of the last backup. quit itunes and restore the old library and the old itunes preference file. start itunes and import the songs you've backed up.
    Thanks!

  • Missing songs and playlists

I uploaded my itunes and now my CD uploads are gone and my playlists I had created are gone.  How do I get them back?

I have a similar problem. The songs are all copied over, but my one Smart Playlist WILL NOT transfer over. The playlist is there on one of my iPod's but there is no music in the playlist. The other 5th Gen iPod doesn't even have the playlist listed.
I've tried resetting the 3rd Generation iPod, but it hasn't cured the situation. I've tried changing the songs in the Smart Playlist and it still won't update. All my other playlists, including one other Smart Playlist transfer over no problem.
All my playlists include both protected and unprotected songs...its a real mystery. It only started after upgrading to iTunes 7.0 and all the necessary software updates are in place too.

  • ITunes on iPhone so many issues: Album Art, Missing songs, Empty playlists, International Account,

When i got my iPhone 6 all my music on the phone got messed up... and I think it's all iTunes Match fault.  I have an iTunes Match account, but I don't really use it.  My library is so big it's never been able to upload all my songs.
    • On the iPhone 6 I have ITuens Match Turned off
    • I have "Show all music" turned off so  only music downloaded to the device SHOULD be shown.
    • Even though I have the settings above, all my playlists show up on the device... but they are empty.  Making very hard to find the music that is ACTUALLY on the device.
    • None of the items I purchased from the iTunes Store have artwork.
    • I used to live in the UK and have an iTuens account and music from that store.  Those songs play fine on my computer and they always loaded to my phone before, but now NONE of those songs will sync to the phone.  If a playlist contains the internationally purchased songs, it just leaves them out.  GRRRR!
    • Finally... it never finishes syncing.  It just hangs on the last step "waiting for changes to be applied."
Any teas to fix any of these issues would be appreciated. Thank you! The items in RED are giving me the most frustration, and I'd like solutions to those the most.
    FYI:
    iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2
my home machine is an iMac running latest iTunes and latest OSX.

Thanks to kirbyfromtrenton, I have tracked down at least a partial fix for this problem:
1 - Turn off iTunes match in iTunes.
2 - Turn off iTunes match on the iPhone.
3 - Close iTunes and reopen.
    4 - Connect your iPhone.
5 - Go into your music folder for the iPhone and delete all the songs.
6 - Turn back on iTunes match in iTunes
7 - Turn back on iTunes match on the iPhone
All of my music is available once again, although I'm still not seeing my playlists or artwork. That could be because I'm overseas right now with a slow wi-fi connection though.

  • Missing songs, missing videos, and missing playlist

Now that I updated itunes seems like I'm missing videos. Before the update I was and still am missing songs and playlist. This includes songs I had put in with cd's.
I don't dare try to sync my phone or ipad. My phone has all the music on there from when itunes wasn't broke.I just have to deal with changing the Christmas music right away.  I thought maybe the update would help. Silly me.
Does anyone know if there is something that can be done for this problem

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and ask them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Not syncing all songs on playlists. Hmm. What's wrong.

iTunes is not syncing all songs on my playlists with my devices. No changes have been made recently. The PC is a 5 year old Dell, with Itunes on it the whole time. It has the latest itunes version. My devices are a 160 gig Classic, and 2 iPhone 4's. All devices have the latest ios. I synced yesterday like i have hundreds of times before, and each playlist is missing 1 or two songs. Yes, they are all checked in itunes. I've tried both "sync all songs in library", and "sync select playlists". Same Result. Any guesses?

I am having this issue also.  Not a problem when I had the iPhone 4, but now that I have the 4s, I have missing songs from playlists.  The songs are there on my phone - I can play them, but they won't show up on my playlist.  I can manually add them to the playlist, but they won't "stick".  I can play the songs fine on my PC in iTunes fine also.  Seems like it only applies to songs that were actually purchased from iTunes (iCloud available).
I tried removing all music from the phone (de-syncing with iTunes) and then doing a fresh sync - no dice.
I don't want to go through a full new set up of my phone (again) - just for this issue, with no guarantee of success.  How do we escalate this to Apple?  Do they review these posts?

  • Apple update ruined my playlists, they are no longer on my ipod and playlist i didnt have are. how can I get mine back. And i am missing songs that appear in itunes but not on the ipod?

apple update erased my playlists, they are no longer showing on my iTunes. I am missing songs that do appear in iTunes and should be on the ipod but are not, and new playlists that I didn't have are now where mine should be. Any suggestions as to getting "MY" ipod back?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • IOS 7 problems finding songs, playlist missing songs

I had a playlist that included several songs from a particular artist but since upgrading from iOS 6.1.3 I can only see one of the tracks remaining. The other songs appear to be removed and searching for missing songs/parent album/artist does not produce any results at all.
The songs are still on the iPhone and I can navigate to them, but only as follows:
Play the one surviving track from this artist/album still in my playlist.
Switch to 'now playing' to select other tracks on the album, including the missing playlist items that Music Search can't find.
It seems like an indexing problem. I'll try removing all the music and resyncing from iTunes and reply with the results. Maybe this will help someone else...
Running iOS 7.0.2 on iPhone 5 64GB. Problem has been present since iOS 7.0.0
    Music ~= 20-30GB on iPhone.

Third update (sync takes hours so I can only do this once a day...)
    iTunes 11.1.1 did not help.
I deleted all music on the device from Settings > Usage > Music > Edit > Delete (which, incidentally, took two attempts before it actually deleted it).
Then I performed a clean sync of my selected playlists again (about 5800 songs)
The sync completed but the iphone was still missing over 1500 songs.
I tried another sync immediately. The process stayed on 'waiting to apply changes' for about 15 minutes, then completed. A few more songs were sync'd but it was still missing 1400+ songs.
The playlist with missing songs was still missing some tracks, but different ones this time. To test if the playlist was the problem I deleted all music from the iPhone again and sync'd just two playlists, including the problematic one. It sync'd all tracks on both playlists, so it doens't appear to be the playlist that is breaking the sync.
I will try one last attempt by restoring the phone as a new device then syncing all my playlists before reapplying the backup data. If that still doesn't work then there is clearly a problem with the sync process that previously worked fine on earlier versions of iOS / iTunes.

  • A function to play offline / downloaded songs and playlists from Spotify on Sonos is missing!

A function to play offline / downloaded songs and playlists from Spotify on Sonos is missing!
Since my internet connection is a bit shaky at home I need to use my downloaded content and playlists with Spotify!
However this functionallity is not available together with Sonos which is a really big problem.
I hope you plan to work together with Sonos to introduce this functionallity really soon.
Also this is already available with Google Play Music together with Sonos and it would really be a shame to leave Spotify just to solve this problem.

Would be great to have some way of getting offline play lists on Sonos for when my internet connection dies, and also to reduce the amount of data i download repetatitivly... i must have streamed the same songs hundreds and hundreds of times over the last few years playing spotify over sonos, massive waste of bandwidth and download capacity. Maybe we could point spotify to a network drive for spotify on sonos to use for storage of offline playlists.

  • Songs and playlists missing in apple TV

itunes match is working on all my devices except the apple TV. None of my non-itunes songs or playlists are available on the apple tv. I have it showing all playlists on the apple tv and itunes match is activated on it. I am able to listen to itunes radio ad-free, but still none of my playlists are available. Anyone know what the problem could be?

This seems to be the root cause at the moment. Unfortunately, it does not appear to have a fix until 11.1.5 is released.

  • Missing Songs in iTunes 7.5/Leopard

I have my entire iTunes library on an external HD while the iTunes library file is in my home>music folder. This has worked fine until recently when iTunes keeps giving me the "original file cannot be found" message with exclamation points. Music folder location is set correctly in Preferences and I've tried restarting with option key -- no luck. Some more newly imported songs are playing but the vast majority of the 16K songs are not. The files are not missing from the drive. I have an older copy of the library from Libra which seems to work, but it's missing a fair amount of new music I've added since. I can't seem to get this fixed. I really don't want to trash everything and start over. Anyone else experiencing this/have any solutions?

well, after a permission repair and reboot i can delete songs from playlists, but not the library. and syncing an ipod locks the entire system not just iTunes, and iTunes will not be killed.
did 7.5 get tested at all?

  • Missing Songs in iTunes Music folder.

I recently found that I have missing files in my iTunes music folder. The missing songs seem to be random. For instance, Abby Road is missing tracks 3 and 6. My music folder is on my main hard drive and I also have a Time Capsule backup.
When I look for the songs in my backup disk, I find I have to go back as far as 4 months to restore some of them and I just now found a song that was there yesterday but gone today. This leads me to believe that a few songs are randomly being deleted every day. Anyone else with this problem?
I'm using iTunes 10.1 but apparently I've been having this problem for at least 4 months now so I believe it was an earlier version when it started happening.

    redcore,
I got an answer from AppleCare on this one and it seems to be working as I have not noticed any more lost songs. The first person I talked to had never heard of this but his boss had and told me I needed to create a new iTunes music folder. This is a bit of a pain, but not as bad as going through TimeMachine to replace all the random, missing files (that part took a while).
You have to Option-click (hold option while you click) on the iTunes icon and then click "Create new library". Name it something different from your old one and then drag all your old content into the new library. You will have to do this with the music, apps, movies, etc. Also, keep in mind you will have to export all your playlist info to the new iTunes as well. I didn't export them all so I'm not sure how, or if, you can do them all at the same time. I did File/Library/Export Playlist in the old iTunes... Than had to do File/Library/Import Playlist when in the new iTunes I had created.
    Hope this helps

  • Missing songs in itunes

When syncing my iphone today, I recieved a message that "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone...because they could not be found." All the missing items were ones I had purchased thru iTunes. The songs in question are still on my playlist, but there is an exclimation point next to themthat when clicked on, another message box appears: "...song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" When I choose that option, it takes me to iTunes folder in C drive:\Windows\sysWOW64. I have no idea where the files would be in the huge list that comes up. I haven't deleted anything recently (I synced the iPhone 2 days ago and didn't get the message). My CCleaner and anti-virus have not run yet today. They last ran 3 days ago. Some of the missing songs are actually albums that I purchased.  Help?!

You're on the right track - somehow the ITL file got damaged. Nobody knows exactly why this happens - you can google "data corruption" and read about it.
If you don't have a good backup of your ITL file, you're going to have to rebuild your library. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's true. You have 2 options:
You can build on the current ITL library file that has missing songs, if you can figure out what's missing. This method won't lose all your ratings & playcounts.
Or, just start with a an empty library and add your main music folder back into itunes.
Then start making weekly backups of your ITL file so if something like this happens again, you're not totally out of luck.
