Missing songs, missing videos, and missing playlist

Now that I updated itunes seems like I'm missing videos. Before the update I was and still am missing songs and playlist. This includes songs I had put in with cd's.
I don't dare try to sync my phone or ipad. My phone has all the music on there from when itunes wasn't broke.I just have to deal with changing the Christmas music right away.  I thought maybe the update would help. Silly me.
Does anyone know if there is something that can be done for this problem

  • Missing most of library and all playlists, any ideas ?

A week ago, I closed several programs via "Ctrl" , "Alt", "Delete", because I was having trouble closing them in the normal fashion. Anyhow, when I went onto I-Tunes I noticed that my music library was missing over 4,000 songs. All of the playlists were missing as well. Now, all of the songs and playlists are still in my I-Pod (Classic, 5th gen., 80 gig, video). Can all of this data be loaded back into my computer from the I-Pod ? All of the songs are still within my hard drives, does that make it any easier ? The I-Tunes was set to automatic sync. If I need to, I'd buy a new computer - but, could I load all the music and playlists into that (from my I-Pod) ?

This can happen many ways,Malware,Antivirus scan,an auto update (Alot of programs are set to go on the net when your on in the background of windows and update themselves, like antivirus), a computer glitch causing the iTunes library file to be corruppted, the list goes on and on.
First scan the PC with antivirus AND a malware program (Malware is a general term for adware and spyware) with something like Ewido http://www.ewido.com
Go here to learn what a iTunes library is and does http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732 then here to rebuild it http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If that doesn't work, you will have to add songs back to iTunes by going to file>add folder to library OR delete a hidden file so iTunes will auto search the whole system and add them back. Then make your playlist again.
When backing up your music you should also backup the iTunes library.xml file This file will contain EVERYTHING so when this happens again, you import it in iTUnes and all your playlist, ratings ect ect will appear. There is an artical about backing up a playlist, usually if you backup the library you don't have to do this but heres the artical none the less http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93763

  • Missing songs iphone downloaded and sync to back up.

I purchase my music from iTunes directly on the iPhone. Periodically I will sync to my HP laptop (running Vista). Recently I purchased several albums and some individual songs, as well as a few apps.
A couple of days ago I tried to sync to my laptop (as I have done many times before). I plugged in the iPhone and it began the sync. Suddenly it stopped telling me the sync was complete.
I looked and found that at least 2 albums were missing (two that I had just purchased) and several individual songs.
The purpose of this most recent sync was to ensure I had a back up of the songs. Performing the sync is what wiped out the songs.
Please understand that I am not purchasing music with the computer and syncing to the phone. I am purchasing on the phone and syncing with the computer for backup.
After reading Apple's policy on their support pages they indicate I will have to purchase these again. This is ridiculous. It is the apple software and/or the iPhone that screwed up, not me and I don't appreciate having to purchase them again.
Is there another way to get this music back. As I said, this music was purchased within the past two weeks, if not the past week. If I can't get my music back I will cease my iPhone subscription, I will stop purchasing music from the iPhone, and I will cease my plans to purchase an iPad. No more Apple products if they insist I can't get my music back for free.
I'm not being extreme. Just reading the Apple web pages caused my blood pressure to raise. I hesitate going forward even if I do get my music back due to how arrogant their policy is.
I know I'm not the only one that has had this problem, so I hope someone else can clarify what I need to do to resolve this.

PS More seriously, you are not talking to Apple in these forums, just other users like yourself who volunteer advice. In that regard, you might want to also post in the forum devoted to the iTunes store:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=797
    And contact the store directly:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
It is possible that the "no replacement" policy may be tied to the terms of the licenses under which Apple is allowed to sell music through its store, but I don't have any specific info on that.

  • Missing songs but folder and artwork remain

I have recently been finding folders of music on my computer that SHOULD be full albums, however they are now missing all the audio files but a few artwork files remain behind in the folder - i.e the music is gone! Currently I am not copying files to the iTunes media folder and adding them to the library though another location on the computer. I have a lot a variables to consider as Ive just bought a MacBook and transferred lots of music back forth etc etc but now Im finding lots of folders on my hard drive and external drives that used to have music in them - but all that remains now is the folder and a few album artwork files. There seems to be no pattern to it either. The audio content has just disappeared!
Therefore I just want to know if an iTunes issue may have caused this or if any association or method of interaction with iTunes would lead to this problem? Any observations or help would be appreciated.

I've fixed it! Took a while but this guy is a genius!! Follow the instructions on here...

  • Missing songs after format and resync

    Hi,
I bought my iPod last February with I had a PC therefore my iPod was formatted to my PC. When I recently bought my Macbook I had to format my iPod so that it works with the Mac. I backed up my songs on an external hard drive but the songs that I purchased through iTunes didn't back-up properly and don't work. How do I get back the songs and albums that I already purchased through iTunes?
    Thanks.

If your backup isn't readable and you don't have another to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once

  • Missing songs in itunes and iphone.

Last syncronisation with my iphone, Itunes asked for a recovery from backup. This lead to loosing information and songs. The songs show up on the Iphone but doew not play. Does anyone have similar experiences and how can this be solved?

it wasn't till now that I saw the "More like this..." and saw that my problem was I was signed on as a different account on my iPhone. Thanks but I retract my question

  • A caper of missing eth0, wireless issues, and missing tools

    Hello all!
I'm a recent Arch convert from Xubuntu, and I've had some troubles installing it on my Gateway NV79.  The first problem was that of going to black screen.  This issue I remedied by entering "i915.modeset=0" at the end of the kernel line.  This allowed me to boot into the live environment, and it installed correctly, but several things are amiss.  Firstly, in the package group selection menu, I only get "base" and "base-devel," (I'm installing from a core image on CD, by the way) and while this isn't nessicarily an error, the Beginner's Guide and Installation Guide both imply that there would be more selection.  I also cannot find my eth0.  According to the Configuring Network wiki page, I need to issue "hwdetect --show-net," in order to find out which module works with my ethernet card (lspci tells me it's a Broadcom Netlink BCM57780) but am told that I have no hwdetect, either in live or installed environs.  I also cannot get wifi to work, using either of the methods outlined in the wiki page for wpa_supplicant.
Any suggestions?  Any command output or config files I should copy-paste?
ninja edit: OH, and I wasn't sure whether or not I should put this in the Newbie Corner, or Laptops forums.  If I've done wrong, could a mod please move this?  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Video playback in mixed (video and music) playlists

How can I set a video playlist to play both the songs and the videos (not just the audio from the video)? My 5G ipod would allow both video playback and songs from the video playlist menu. On my 160g classic, I only see/play the videos on the mixed playlists from the video playlist menu.

The 3ivX codec is in your quicktime library folder, normally: root/Library/QuickTime, but I don't think, that Apple encodes their movies with an unsupported codec. Maybe there is another unsupported codec in your library that creates the iTunes-stuttering or the reason for your problem is completely different. I paste here the content of my library folder. If you have anything else in your folder, quit Quicktime Player and iTunes (if they are running) , remove the plug-in and try your movie again in iTunes. Hope, this helps.

  • Transferring library from pc; duplicate files and missing playlist

I know this can't be a new topic but I'm having trouble finding a solution. I am very frustrated as I've been working all morning on this and I suspect there is an easy solution.
My new i-mac arrived yesterday. I'm transferring my itunes library from a pc. I have my entire hard drive backed up on an external drive.
I have copied the music from the external hard drive to the imac, then imported the music into itunes. No matter how I approach this I end up with duplicate copies of every song in tunes and no playlists. I've tried copying just the file I thought controlled playlists, I get the playlist name but a message that songs were not imported b/c they could not be found.
Is there an easier way to tackle this? Thanks.

I figured this out on my own. Closing out.

  • Why can't I delete a song(s) out of a playlist?

I'm a PC guy that recently converted to mac. Loving it so far.
In itunes I am having a tough time figuring out how to simply delete a song or video from certain playlist? I've tried hitting "delete" and I've tried hitting the "delete X" button but I'm not sure I'm doing that correctly.
I've tried deleting the actual file and then returning to delete it in itunes but it does nothing other than tell me that the link is invalid.
Am I missing the obvious on this?
    Thanks.

Couple of things, firstly you can delete a file from a playlist or smart playlist by pressing the Option and Delete keys, this will move the file to trash.
If all you want to do is exclude videos from a smart playlist then add a rule:
*Video Kind* is not *music video* (there are options for the other kinds there too)
or alternatively to exclude any videos:
    Kind does not contain video

  • Apple update ruined my playlists, they are no longer on my ipod and playlist i didnt have are. how can I get mine back. And i am missing songs that appear in itunes but not on the ipod?

apple update erased my playlists, they are no longer showing on my iTunes. I am missing songs that do appear in iTunes and should be on the ipod but are not, and new playlists that I didn't have are now where mine should be. Any suggestions as to getting "MY" ipod back?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Half my music, and all my apps/playlist/movies/videos are missing from my itunes. I found it all in my music on my computer but it wont go into itunes.  Is there any suggestions on what i can do?  I have most of it backed up on a external hard drive all i am affraid to do anything as i don't want to lose all the time and money i have invested.  Someone told me to uninstall itunes and reinstall it and see what happens any thought?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup.

  • Songs and videos grayed out and missing items.

I've had my ipod for a year with no problems and all of a sudden hundreds of songs and videos have little exclamations marks in circles next to them and an error message pops up that says they can't be found. Also, other songs are all grayed out when you go to info and you can't make any changes. Can anyone shed some light on what is going on?

I have the same problem. Mac OS 10.5.3. Intel iMAC core duo. When I upgraded to iTunes 7.6.2 all of my playlists went grey. Both Music and Movie Playlists.
I installed the latest version of quicktime which did not fix the video playlist greyed out issue as noted in other areas of the support forums.
