Missing songs on iPod that are in iTunes.... ????

There are about 40 songs in my iTune Library that I can't get to sync with my 5g iPod. I've done the automatic and manual updates and nothing. I've tried creating them in playlist and nothing. I know what folders those songs are in. They play in iTunes and there there.... I just can't get them on my iPod.... Anybody have any ideas of what else I can do to get all my songs synced????
Win   Windows XP

I've figured it out. I deleted the songs that didn't play from my library.... Then I took the original music files and converted them to MP3 then readded them to my library and now I'm good to go.... Hope this helps anybody else who may have had a similiar problem.... Thanx for looking.

I have not connected my iPad to a pc yet and it has my songs on it that are on iTunes, will I lose this if I plug it onto a PC?

Since you have never plugged the iPad into your computer's iTunes yet - you are syncing to a "new" computer so .... Yes you will lose the music if you sync it with iTunes before making this your syncing computer.
But ..... You can transfer all of the iPad content into iTunes and that will make the iTunes library your new syncing library. Just follow all of the steps in this user tip and you will be OK. Then you will be able sync without losing anything.

  • My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try syncing with iTunes

You'll need to copy the content on your iPod back to your iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully done that you can safely erase and sync your iPod.

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.
The same song clipped - no chance to repair.

  • How do I stop Genius from recommending songs and albums that are already in my iTunes music library?

With greater and greater frequency, Genius is recommending songs and albums that are already in my music library. Up to 80% of the recommendations!. I am hesitant to give these suggestions a thumbs down, as I like the songs (afterall, I own them) and don't want to give the impression that I don't like the artist, genre, etc. as I appreciate how Genius works, when it does work.
I have updated Genius and updated iTunes Match, to no avail.
This quirk -- recommending music already in my library -- used to be a rare event. Now, most of the recommendations I get are for music I already own.
    How can I fix this?

To be a little bit more accurate the said book sits in my Documents on my Macbook,  purchased through iTune for free in iTunes Store>Books. I can find it with Finder on my Macbook. It says it is in my Documents but it does not appear in the Documents folder in my Dock. Great! Even the iTunes Store says it is downloaded already. And why when I search for it with Finder on my Mac and click on the result does a window open up full of comoter language? I need some help.

  • Saving songs on iPod without syncing w/ iTunes

I have songs that I want to keep on the iPod that are not in the iTunes.
I had the iPod set for syncing, but now I don't want it to sync.
How do I set the iPod for manual mode without losing the songs that will be lost when I hook up the iPod?
The syncing happens too fast to make the changes before any loss.
Home built 5 years ago.   Windows 2000

Hold the keys down and then connect the iPod. iTunes will open and you'll see the iPod icon in the source list, give it half a minute if you are really worried and you can let go. Another thing you can do is connect to a different computer. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. You can also use the method described in this article: How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen... Deleting Songs from iPod while connected to iTunes

    Hello,
There are some songs on my iPod Nano that I want to delete from the iPod but still keep in Library...
When I connect my iPod to my Mac, all of the songs show up that are on my iPod but I am unable to click the song and delete it from my iPod.
All of the songs are not bold like when I look at them in my library.
I can't click on any of the songs... when I hold the control button and click my mouse the only thing that pops up is a menu that features:
    Get Info
    Reset Play Count
    Reset Skip Count
    Show in Playlist
    Apply Sort Field
    Can anyone help me????
    Thank you very much!

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for 1st and 2nd generation iPod shuffles, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the these). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD or an external drive:
How to back up your media in iTunes
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod Nano in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
