Missing songs with the Sync functi

Hello,
I've got a 20GB Zen Touch with the newest v.x firmware. (hahaha from 2004)
Mediasource says I have 3672 songs, when I goto Sync all of my audio files and playlists, it only comes up with 349 songs...

The mediasource software had absolutely no problems copying them at all. The filename on my PC was different as the track number is part of the filename but the Tag info had the same Album, Artist and Track Name (Though a different track number). Mediasource had no problems recognising the different tracks but the Zen player recognised them as if they were the same and so ignored one.
I ran into this a LOT ripping my CD's. I have a large number of audio plays where the track title is often named after the location of the scene. As the same location is used a few times each "episode" there were in some cases an album (with same artist name) which had 3 or even 4 tracks with the exact same title (Though different track number).
In all cases, Mediasource wasnt phased at all but the Zen Touch would only allow one of the tracks on it. If you tried to copy direct, it gave you the option of skipping duplicate names or renaming them. If you used the audiosynch, then it just ignored them as it thought they were allready on the player.
Mediasource never had a problem with any of them and I think across my whole collection I will have had approaching 00 duplicate file names.
Took me a while to go through and find the common cause with the annomalies and even longer to go through and alter those titles. Now I check the titles each time I rip a cd as it only takes a couple of seconds at that stage.
Now Ive altered all the titles, botht the normal transfer and the audiosync work perfectly. Mediasource works as good as ever too.
Hope this info helps others. Im genuinely just reporting the experience as Ive had it and on my pc the theory does test exact.
If anyone is interested I can list a few of the cd's it happened with so that you can have a go yourself if you have the same cd.
Really I dont see this as a problem with the software or player. Its just a quirk of how some of the info has been entered on Gracenote. I suppose the only way to completely solve it would be to include the "Track Number" in the criteria for recognising duplicate tracks. I guess this would be a firmware issue.

Can iTunes sync multiple songs with the same name?

My iTunes library has multiple songs with the same name (but they point to different files on the filesystem).
Curiously when iTunes syncs to my iPhone it will only ever sync two of the files, even if more exists. I suspect what is happening is described below, but I have no way of verifying it:
Let's assume I have 5 songs named IdenticalName, on the filesystem these are named IdenticalName.mp3, IdenticalName 1.mp3, IdenticalName 2.mp3, and so on.
I suspect iTunes is syncing the filename without a number postfix, and the file with the "1" postfix and not continuing with the rest of the files.
Has anyone seen similar behaviour? Did you find a workaround (other than renaming your tracks)?

Then just make sure the name that appears in Grid Control is different.
e.g. prod.world is on server A and B. When you discover in Grid control, you can make it prod_B and you will see the latter without any problem.

How do I search for a song with the name I typed on my iPhone?

I run into this a lot and it is extremely frustrating. I want to find a song like "Menuetti", but the search results end up with hundreds of variations of "Menuetto". Even though I know Menuetti is there somewhere, I can't find the song I am looking for because there is so much garbage returned. Is there any way to get the iTunes store to return the few songs with the name I asked for rather than the hundreds with the name I did not?

Songs with the same album art not grouped together in iTunes for Windows

Brand new iTunes user here - do not yet have an iPod! (Needed some music only on iTunes)
When I first started up iTunes, it imported all of my music I already had on my computer. A few of them are soundtracks with different artists.
When they are shown in the iTunes library, the soundtracks have been broken up by Artist instead of staying as a whole album. How do I get the songs back together as one album? I found the folder on my computer where they are stored and combined them there, but they are still separate in the iTunes library.

Mark the tracks on the album as "Part of a compilation" and fill in the Album Artist field as "Various Artists". Click on the first track of your album to highlight it, hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight everything in between. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info. You'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, say yes. If you are using iTunes 8 in the box that opens go to the Options tab and change "part of a compilation" to Yes and choose OK.
Also in your library click on the title bar of album column to bring all the tracks in the same album together. If you keep clicking in the title you can choose it to sort by Album, Album by Artist or Album by Year. Clicking on the little triangle on the right side of the column header changes the sort direction. Pointing up and the column is sorted in Ascending order (A to Z). Pointing down and the column is sorted in Descending order (Z to A).

Missing Songs with some views of IPOD

An odd thing is going on with my iPod. Here is an example. I have about 400 Christmas songs. I have them as Christmas playlist and as a Chrismas Genre. But when I bring them up to play in random mode it shows that I have 40 or sometimes 50 sometimes 400. I tried to pick the whole playlist as an on the go playlist and then I get all of the tunes. They play correctly and all show up on my itunes. So what is up?

HT1386 How do you sync specific songs with the NEW iTunes?

I have a large music library and my iPhone is only 16GB. This limits the amount of songs i can put on it. In the previous iTunes it was possible to remove a song by simply un-ticking it. I've tried that in the current version of iTunes but when i sync, the songs still end up on my iPhone.

Make sure that the "Sync Music" option from the Music tab in your iTunes is checked but not the "Entire music library" underneath the "Entire music library" option you can select which parts of you iTunes library to sync with your iPhone.

Upon upgrade to 11 Iost a lot of songs with the!. I've looked thru normal proceedures tried a few with no sucess, can I ever recover the missing originals, can I undo 11 ?

Focus on a single file that shows with an exclamation mark. Select it, press CTRL+I to Get Info, click No when prompted to locate the file, and look at the location given on the summary tab. Now use Windows search to locate the file by searching for files with the same filename. Post back both paths and I can suggest a resolution. In the unlikely event that the original has really vanished rolling back to an earlier version of iTunes won't fix anything.

How do remove thousands of duplicate songs with the same date?

Brand new mac book pro. Made the move from windows. Migration asst moved music from pc to itunes. I also have iPhone/iPad2. Now I have 2-4 versions of every song and they all have the same date. How can I get down to just one version of each song?

Yes there is a way. Post back with the following information:
1. With respect to your home directory, what is the exact folder that the files are in (ie, are they in the Documents folder, or in a subfolder within the Documents folder). What are the exact names (caps included) of these directories?
2. What is the exact name scheme of the files? You mentioned they are incremented numerically, but what are the rest of the files' names (again, capitalization is important)?
With this information, there are several ways to approach the problem, which will basically be four steps to ensure you do not inadvertently remove files you wish to keep:
1. Create a new folder to temporarily house the files.
2. Issue a command to target the files by name and move them into a separate folder.
3. Check the old parent folder to ensure nothing is missing, and optionally check the names of the moved items.
4. Finally delete the contents of the temporary folder, along with the folder itself.
The specifics of these steps will depend on the names of the files and the folder that they are in, so provide as much information as you can about that, and we can work through the steps.

Anyone know what the deal is with the Syncing?

My school recieved new laptops from the county for the teachers, while we recieved new accounts to the computers (eMacs). Now, there is the sync doohicky that wasn't on the school computers and it is now. Is this a new thing, or has it been around?

Most likely .Mac Sync and iTunes. Our music teacher, Mr. McCready played an itunes song in his office and transfered it to his laptop. I appreciate the help with the question, though.

There are missing songs in the iTunes store. Is Apple aware of any of this?

I was trying to buy a few songs from the iTunes store, namely from Classified and Maestro Fresh Wes. A few days ago, the entire catalogue from both artists were there. A few days later, some songs were missing, despite the fact that they have the albums showing. Is Apple aware of this, due to a expired contract with the record labels or what's going on?

Apple doesn't announce such things, so we have no way of knowing. Perhaps the tracks were defective, or perhaps the record company had to pull them for some reason. If you've purchased the applicable album and came up missing tracks that should have been included, go here:
