Missing status bar or progress bar
I just installed Yosemite and I am experiencing a strange problem. Whenever I perform a function that is not quick, like compressing a large folder or copying a large folder to another hard drive, I do NOT see any status or progress bar. Do I need to change something in my preferences or is this a glitch on older iMacs?
Thanks!
Neither of those normally do anything more than post a progress dialog. Are you sure it's not hidden behind an existing open window? Otherwise, the installation is defective. You should reinstall:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Volume bar and progression bar WILL NOT display durring music
For some odd reason when I turn music on all I get is five little dots, and they don't even fill up or empty as I turn the wheel.
I can turn volume up and fastforward music and such, but it won't display either bars. Only these five circles. I've had my iPod for a few months and never had such a problem.
Any suggestions?Sometimes, if you don't allow the screen to refresh before pressing another button, it gets stuck.
See this for help.
iPod "stuck" on the artwork or rating screen.
As you will see, updating the software can cure this. -
Progress Bar - HttpServletResponse
Hi,
My Setup:
- Windows XP Pro
- Jakarta-Tomcat-3.2.4
- J2SE1.4.1_02
- IE 6
I would like to know if there is a way to 'emulate/plug into' the progress bar on IE.
I have a couple of web-apps running on tomcat, and I would like to implement a global progress bar. All the examples I've seen works with
threads and you need to update the status of the progress bar.
I need something that picks up the status/progress of the Response
itself.Thanks for the replies,
I want to track the progress of the response from the server without
having to implement code on all servers (web services). My testing is
done on IE with the response being written to the browser. In this case
IE probably tracks the loading of the page/html code, like when opening
a new url.
My question is, is there a clever way of measuring the response for different clients. I have seen the response.isCommitted() method which
returns true if the server has finished, but this is only useful if
you want to display a "indeterminate" bar(like with JProgressBar).
The simplest way to state this problem is:
(1) Can one measure the total length of time it will take to respond to
a request?
(2) Can one pick up the current status of the response so that you can compare it to the total? -
Missing Print Progress Bar--bug or feature?
Since upgrading to Acrobat 8 Professional (v. 8.1.2) on a Mac Intel Quad-core running OS X 10.5.1, there is no progress bar when printing. I only know that printing is done by hovering over the "stoplight" buttons and noticing when they become responsive again. (The window itself does not become active until I click in it.) It's as if there *is* a progress bar window somewhere, but it's not visible, and it's not giving up "front window" status when it's done.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? It's not affecting function, it's merely annoying. But with the radical redesign of the interface from Acrobat 7 to Acrobat 8, I can't tell if this is a bug or a feature. Any insight will be welcome.
Thanks,
David ReiffelI am new to this problem, having recently upgraded to Intel Macs from Acrobat Pro 7. There is another issue that seems to have been missed both in this thread and the other one referenced by David above. When the progress bar is on-screen, there is also a cancel button. So now you have the situation where Acrobat is unable to report how far through a print job it is and you are also disallowed from cancelling the job without resorting to a Force Quit... Now, that's the sort of usability I'd pay good money for! The problem doesn't occur using a PowerMac G5, so the functionality is there, it just doesn't translate to the Intel platform. Adobe Reader 9 also prints without a progress bar, so it looks like the problem is here to stay unless a fuss is made and this becomes a 'known issue'
I've raised this as a case with Adobe customer care on 1 September but this hasn't been addressed as yet. I'll post any follow-up I get here. -
Can Firefox 5 set to stop a connection and/or show a a progress bar rather than only ' loading'? I miss my version 3
You can use this extension.

The page load progress bar that was on the lower right of the window is no longer there. After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it. The tab has a circular progress wheel but this is useless for determining a stuck or slow loading page.
PLEASE NOTE: I am typing this in from a Windows based work computer but am asking about my Apple MacBook Pro that i use at home.Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Another possibility is to use:

How to create a progress bar showing status on timeout of TCP Read function
Is there any way of creating a progress bar showing the status of a 'TCP Read timeout' time ... ?
I'm sending a data request to an intranet server via TCP Write, and then using TCP Read with a 2 min. timeout to receive the requested data. During this time i want to show the actual progress of the timeout in a progress bar.
Can this be done?
And do i have to implement some kind of multitasking to make it happen?

It can be done and you need to do some multitasking yes, but that is
quite easy in LabVIEW. A separate loop or subVI with loop will be
responsible for the progress bar. Set its scale to 0 and the number of
seconds of your timeout. In parallel to the TCP Read let this loop or VI
execute reading the time every few
seconds and calculating the
difference to its start time, passing this value to the progress bar
slider. Have an extra boolean global which aborts the loop and set this
boolean to FALSE before starting the loop/VI and TCP Read and setting it
to TRUE on return of the TCP Read.

The second bar is inside of the sizing grip on the right side of the status bar. It does nothing, but take up space. The functional progress bar appears only when it is working inside of the message panel and outside of the authentication panel on the left side of the status bar. I've turned the status bar off and then on again--no luck. I've also tried disabling all add-ons--no luck. I've also changed themes--no luck. Do I need to re-install the browser?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
If you have many extensions then you can first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it. -
I'm missing my status and address bars.
command l and command T won't bring any thing up.
view > status. or view > address bar doesn't work either.
Well actually it does but it's just the brushed metal gui. No url field.
I quit and relaunched but noo luck.
Any suggestions before I rest Safari?To get the address window back, go to View > Customize Address Bar. You will be able to drag the address window back onto the toolbar.
To get the status bar to show, go to View > Show Status Bar. -
Progress bar according to databases status?

i need to display progress bar according to database
status i.e. as one programm is taking data (mobile no
) and sending msg to that mobile no how to display itI don't know of a way to estimate how much of your query job is done, nor do I know of a database tool that is sufficiently accurate to allow a percentabe type of update progress to be shown, but you could make a moving bar that resets when it hits the end--make it fairly rapidly moving to not confuse anyone looking at it--so they don't think it is an actual one time through and your are done progress type.
The progress bar needs to run in a seperate thread then and when your process returns from it's call, then you shut down your progress bar. -
Since upgrading to 10.6.7 I no longer see the progress bar in the lower right part of the window when a page is loading. I can't seem to find a setting that will bring this back. I've always referred to this as a way of detecting if there is a slow down or other problem with my internet feed. Can anyone suggest a way of restoring this short of going backward to 10.6.6? Thanks in advance.

In addition to Thomas A Reed above,
you can view the status bar in Safari with keys ⌘ /
This will give you some sense with location and item count as well:
Hope this solves your problem.

Need to use progress bar in my application
hello friends,
Actually i m using jsp filedownload and I am gettting my file in byte array and need to implement a progress bar while downloading file (as IE showing in status bar downloading file size ..% of total file size)...no fake progress bars and no stop gap solutions as like a gif moving with sign "plz wait ..file is downloading "
plz help how to get this done
My code
HashMap result = (HashMap)request.getAttribute("requestParams");
String type = request.getParameter("type");
boolean isFile = false;
if(result != null){
String successFlag = (String) result.get("");
String sFileName = null;
byte[] bFile = null;
String sContentType = null;
if(successFlag != null && successFlag.equals("true")){
for(int i=0;i<result.size();i++){
sFileName = (String) result.get("FILENAME");
bFile = (byte[]) result.get("FILEDATA");
sContentType = (String) result.get("CONTENTTYPE");
response.reset();
if(null!=bFile) {
if(bFile.length>0){
if(sContentType == null || sContentType.equals("")){
response.setContentType( "application/octet-stream" );
else response.setContentType(sContentType);
response.setHeader("Accept-Ranges", "bytes");
isFile = true;
response.setHeader("Content-Length", Integer.toString(bFile.length, 10));
if(null!=sFileName){
if("view".equals(type)){
if(null!=sFileName)response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","inline; filename=\""+sFileName+"\"");
else{
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=\""+sFileName+"\"");
ServletOutputStream outs = response.getOutputStream();
if(null!=bFile)outs.write(bFile);
outs.flush();
outs.close();
out.clear();
out = pageContext.pushBody();
}You should get your keyboard fixed. There's a lot of letters missing from what you type and it makes it very hard for other people to read. It looks extremely inelegant.
Anyway, your JSP isn't in control of the download. (You shouldn't have all that Java code in a JSP either but that's a separate issue.) All it does is to send the data to the browser, which is in charge of the download. And in all the browsers I use, there's a box which tells you how far the download has proceeded. No real need for a progress bar, even if you could persuade the browser to make one. Which you can't. -
Progress bar on start up doesn't finish
When I log onto my MacBook Pro after I enter my password a progress bar appears which starts to move across but only goes about 20% of the way before the desktop appears. I have heard that there has been a problem with automatic updates which don't fully install and this could be a symptom of that. Unfortunately I now get a problem where the Desktop seems to freeze and I can't select items with the trackpad. I'm not sure if the two are linked or just a coincidence.
That is normal. If you get to the Desktop and all is working you don't have a problem. But if you do have a problem, then you need to do this:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite

I need to add a progress bar to the splash screen of a Director 12 .dcr which is hosted on a website.
The progress bar doesn't have to show the exact time remaining before the main.dcr starts, it just gives the user a rough indication that "loading" is happening.
I was thinking of using an animated .gif for this, making the .gif visible when the user clicks the Start button, but I don't knon how to do this in Director.
Is there a standard way to make a loading-in-progress indicator in Director, for a web hosted .dcr?
Thank you.Is this the kind of thing you are looking for?
